I'm tasting right now. Added a few drops of water and it takes the harshness out without compromising the taste or nose. Great buy for a very good Ardbeg! It may replace the 10 yo on my shelf. It's about $10 less than the 10 yo, and ten bucks is ten bucks! Just kidding. It will be an excellent addition to the shelf! Thanks guys and keep it up!
This is so good! My wife blessed me with this today. I took one sip and went grabbed a Macanudo Maduro to pair it with. It’s my first Islay and I’m in love with it!
Kilchoman makes REALLY good peated Scotch that is pretty young with NAS. I avoided it for while because of the lack of age statement,.... boy was I missing out!
Great news. This tasty dram finally appeared at our local liquor store, and we pounced on it for only $50. Made us smile. It's a meaty, beefy barbeque for sure.
Scott and Bart - heartfelt thanks for your service both in your day-time jobs and in your service to the whisky community! And so good to see the two of you back together again in the same room, bouncing off each other and enjoying the whisky banter. That's good for the spirit in every sense of the word. Yep, this baby Beg is a little beauty. I'm enjoying it as an alternative to the others in the core range and, like you, I think it hits a few home runs in regard to taste and price. I'll definitely be keeping a bottle of this open in my bar in the future. Cheers!
Thank you both for the solid review as always! I picked this up a few days ago for under $40 after tax here in Fort Worth, Texas. It's a really great dram for the dollar; great Ardbeg campfire smoke, dark chocolate and cherries on the palette (for me). You really can't go wrong grabbing one of these for your bar!
Hi Scott and bart I bought 2 bottles 🍼 of the ardbeg 5 year old and have all the core range bottles, I am blown away by this one, it is my favorite whiskey of 150+ bottles of scotch that I have, this expression of ardbeg blows me away, it has roasted nuts and slight chocolate, pine resin and slight sweetness that other ardbeg's just don't have, "wow" I just love this scotch, if you can tell me of a better peated whiskey, I'm all ears, suggest away, I have almost all of the laguvulan whiskey and one of the Laphroaig cardeous only, but I can't find one better, I'm patiently waiting for your response to something better, not that you're job but just can't think of anything better, cheers to you and your videos, keep them coming, oh by the way stop yelling bart, it's blowing my ears out on my ear buds, cheers !!!
Woww....I'm surprised by the high score. Darn it dummies. Now your makeing me buy another bottle I really do not be needing to buy! Thanks again for the great reviews.
You guys were right on, it’s ex-bourbon and oloroso sherry butts. I just got a bottle of this too and I love it. It feels like a really unique part of their line. Thanks for the review guys!
Sounds delicious! Supposedly it’s ex-bourbon and Oloroso casks (maybe where the nuttiness is coming from). I hope you have a good Memorial Day weekend. Thank you both for your service.
I recently got the last bottle of 2019 supernova committee release in my area. I was told that they don't have wee Beastie on yet but they will have the black as soon as they are able to. I'm really looking forward to trying the black I did like Supernova 2019. Thank you guys for doing this video.
I decided to make the purchase today @ $46 here on So Cal. With just a new open and not oxidized yet I would give it an 84. I'm looking forward to it opening yet. I'm following this dram with a Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength . Now that one is a 90 or more and blows the Lil Wee Beastie into the weeds!
Hi bart and Scott I'm glad you did the wee beastie, I bought 2 bottles 🍼 and I just popped the cork, and I love 💘 this scotch, I have all the core range ardbeg bottles 🍼 and this bottle 🍼 stands alone out of all of them, I love 💘 this expression of ardbeg, glad I got 2 bottles 🍼, thanks for all the videos, cheers and keep up the good work!!!
I got this one in the mail today! I enjoyed it for the first time with your review today! Thanks guys. I really like this one, happy to have it on my bar! I am a peat head too Bart.
I get a lot of tropical on the nose on this, but not as much on the palate. Palate is more milk/dark chocolate and Werther's candy in addition to the peat influence. It may be my computer settings, but my liquid seems lighter than what you have poured. Not as light as Lagavulin 8, but light.
Big Ardbeg fan, so at$40 I'm definitely picking this up once it hits Atlanta. Thanks for the great review. Bart's love for Ardbeg and peat is infectious! You might like Bunnahabhain Ceobanach too -- it's very nice.
I must say I got really surprised with the "roasted peanuts" opening impression. Mine was tar and ether. I suppose all these metaphores come from the upbringing; I'm Polish and I have completely different associations - the Wee Beastie reminded me of my grandpa repairing the roof and getting honey from the beehive on the very same day. BTW, good, inspiring whisky, I got mine for the equivalent of $40 and have zero regrets whatsoever. However, I noticed this Ardbeg needs at least 15 minutes in the drum before you sip it first and then it takes another 2 sips to get inside. Anyway, the level of intensity will get along well with cold rainy autumn nights, rather than sunny day. Great review, greetings from Poland!
$40 + Ardbeg fan = no brainer! Now I just need it to show up in California! Cheers Dummies!!! BTW, Kilkerran Heavily Peated batch 01 is only 3 years old...
Finally got a bottle of this. Maybe not as complex as the 10 or smoky but I enjoyed the heavy chocolate influence. I am real tempted to buy Blaaack at around $108 at TW next.
Great review -- you made me get out of my house during lockdown to get this bottle in the next town over. I've had this bottle for a while and have been liking it more and more as time passes. And today I got an Ardbeg 10 and did a side-by-side and I preferred the Beastie. This is probably because I'm familiar with the Ardbeg core range and this is something different (a Laphroaig/Ardbeg hybrid like the Perpetuum?). I got my bottle for $48.50 in northern NJ, only a few dollars cheaper than the 10, but worth it for the difference it brings. And I love the bold 5 year age statement. Are you aware of any other Scotches that puts a clearly identifiable age statement on the bottle that is under 8 years?
thanks Andrew! a lot will put it in small print or make you figure it out by putting the distilled date and bottled date on it. Bruichladdich and Kilchoman both do that.
Great review dummies! As usual 😃 ... anyways ... was wondering ... for $5 - $10 more wouldn't you rather buy the Ardbeg 10? Is it different enough to provide a completely different experience? When An Oa came out ... I wasn't impressed. I still think that the Ardbeg 10, the Uigeadail and the Corryvreckan are the best in Adbeg core range!
Not in UK yet as far as I know...I had to get mine from Holland and I live in Scotland🤪....strange. Yet to open it 👍🥃. Feedback so far, it’s going to do extremely well.
The first bottle of Arbeg 10 I had was soo good. All subsequent bottles of Ardbed 10 disappointed.... that intense oily tar just wasn't there..... more like lightly smoked honey.
I think, that you need to do another peat/smoke core range shootout. :) It would be great though, if some other regions besides Islay would make it in. Like Campbeltown (Springbank, Kilkerran), Skye (Talisker), Mull (Leidag), Orkney (Highland Park), Speyside (Benromach)... I would definitely watch that. :)
Nice review as usual guys. You guys got this a wee early. I'll be trying my bottle for the first time tonight and reviewing it, looking forward to it. Slàinte 🥃 - Patrick
Heading to the Wee Beastie store after the last period. Sounds like a great bottle to have and glad to see it in the core range. Now hearing you guys dig it I’m more confident I’ll like it too. I wonder if the timing of the release is part strategy due to increased tariffs on single malts. Regardless, as Bart says, young is good for peat (need I say “Make Moine A Devil!”?). Cheers guys 🥃.
Scotch Test Dummies same for me. Fedex says I’ll get mine tomorrow but their track record has been pretty awful lately. Excited to get these festival releases. The store today had two Wee Beasties and now they are on my shelf. Cracking one tomorrow. Cheers.
There's a $6 difference between Ardbeg 5 and 10, so that's doesn't represent a great value solely based on price, but as its own thing, 5 is a great whisky.
Excellent bottle and not saying that just because I’m a Ardbeg fan. I agree with Bart it’s not super smoky like the ten. Entry level for me too 🤪. Here in Chicago it’s $50 just like the ten. But still worth it in my opinion and part of the core range 🤘. Cheers dummies 🥃
Can’t get it here in the UK yet, due soon they tell us. Looking forward to tessssstttttinnnnggg this one for ourselves Great review as ever! Slainthe guys 🥃

Interesting - I might see it around here in about a year, if the ABC powers-that-be decide to let it in :-O ... I was going to ask how it compares to An Oa but Iooks like you've got that h-t-h lined up.
This one costs the same as the 10 year old in my area. Hard to justify paying $50 for the WB when that'll get me the 10 year old. I can get a Lagavulin 8 yr old for $45.
Hi Scott and bart I would like to become a patreon member, but the yelling from bart the bartender is so annoying, I have to wear headphones because I have the air conditioning on in the garage, and I can't hear you guy's, please just say test it without yelling for (peat) sake, or I'm going to have to stop ✋watching cheers !!
This is maybe the future of Scotch whisky...young age statement, high ABV, non chill filtered, natural color, reasonable pricepoint
absolutely
I'm tasting right now. Added a few drops of water and it takes the harshness out without compromising the taste or nose. Great buy for a very good Ardbeg! It may replace the 10 yo on my shelf. very nice Robert!
Quite the whisky to be your first introduction to Islay! Glad you enjoyed it.
Kilchoman makes REALLY good peated Scotch that is pretty young with NAS.
I avoided it for while because of the lack of age statement,.... boy was I missing out!
true. I think most of theirs they list the distilled date and bottled date on but might not list the age.
@offintpines That was exactly my experience!! I avoided it for a few years, then I relented and tried it! WOW! I love Kilchoman!
I’ve been very curious to see what y’all think about the Wee Beastie. I’ve enjoyed it more as I get further into it.
nice, I need to watch your vids on it.
Agreed. Imo it’s close taste wise to ugadahl (sp?) but less abv. Tasty stuff and very affordable.
Great news. This tasty dram finally appeared at our local liquor store, and we pounced on it for only $50. Made us smile. It's a meaty, beefy barbeque for sure.
very nice bottle! thanks guys!
Been drinking and a fan of Whisky for 4 years now, mostly into bourbon, blends and speysides.
I'm drinking this on Christmas! My first Islay
Excellent, come back and tell us what you think of it!

great comment, thanks Russell!
Love me some wee beastie. Totally blown away when I tasted it.
Boom
It’s a good entry level for someone starting the Ardbeg line. I’m a newbie myself, so it can slowly get me into the line. Next up, Ardbeg 10 for me.
very nice!
Crushed it in 5 days. I loved this one. And... $35 here. A great addition to the range, and is much different than the OB 10. Great review. Cheers
thanks Futures!
Glad you guys enjoyed it! Half my bottle is gone already! I wonder if the sherry butts dialed the peat down a bit.
thanks to you John! I suppose the sherry could do that. Still delicious!
Thank you both for the solid review as always!

Islay whisky's are the only ones I drink. Love them!
nothing wrong with that!
We finally have Ardbeg wee beastie here in Montana. It is costing $50 per bottle. I am planning on picking your bottle up this Thursday.
I got 3 bottles coming from California, will be here Thursday, I can't wait.

It’s a mix of Ex bourbon and ex oloroso sherry casks according to the Distiller app. Cool review thanks! I just bought a bottle today
Very cool!

I know it's a matter of taste but do you guys have a ballpark figure on how many drops of water it takes to knock off 1% ABV ?

How long did the nut taste stayed in your palate? Love u guys. Thanks!
Thanks for the review, I think I will stay with the 10, don't want to go down in peat level.👍✌🤘👌
we'll have to compare them to see how it does!
I feel like Bowmore 12 or 15 might be a light enough Islay peat as an entry level bottle.

wow, awesome buy!

Seems like a no brainer if you like Islay or Ardbeg scotches. Got an age, from a good distiller and $40...unfortunately I see it in my area for $60 which is what I can get the 10 yr old for so I don’t know how that’s going to work.
try it once and see how it stands up to the 10!
This is a whiskey I wish I could try. You guys going to send the tram I take it, hahaha.
it'll be making the rounds soon enough i'm sure Sunny!
wants the precious!
yes the precious, it wants it
Pro: It tastes older than a 5 year old and is fantastic
Con: It costs the same as the 10 did a year and a half ago
good points!
seems to be available in every other country other than the country it was made... grr. The wait continues
that is so odd...
No color in Ardbeg, dear Scott and Bart.
And it is supposed to be part of the core range.
excellent thanks Doc!
