- Now in its fourth generation, the BMW X5 has a lot of new additions. New tech and new design might be just two of them, but do some of those elements work with the entire package or just make for some head scratching. Kelley Blue Book's Micah Muzio checks out the compact luxury SUV and tries to eraser some questions.

I have an extended family member that has an X5 that's just a few years old. When it runs, it's a very nice cruiser..... when it's not stalling in traffic for no reason. Go BMW!

Best part about the X5 in my opinion was the magnificent rhythm and the glorious beat drop that he effortlessly beatboxed !

It does!!! As does Power Folding mirrors, Navigation, digital display, and many other features. This guy is stupid, as he said several times in the video.
engine oil is standard, but windshield washer fluid is an option.

As a BMW owner (2017 X1), with BMW charging for CarPlay, the day I plan to upgrade my car, out of principle I will not be purchasing a BMW if they continue to charge for CarPlay. This is just pretentious and offensive!
with porsche apple carplay you need to have your phone plugged in in order to use it. id rather pay than have to use a cable all the time.

That why you select the button before you drive or at a stop light.
No doubt you need to drill down in menus to configure different settings. I find helpful to just press the mic button and announce the setting by name. For example, with "Units", I can change from km to miles for trips to US from Canada.

That's a pretty major editorial failure when you post the window sticker for an X7 instead of an X5. There's a huge price difference between the two.
That being said, seems like a nice vehicle. I would only lease something like this though. Purchase and face the insane depreciation. Buy used and face the insane reliability issues down the line.
What color is the seat ? feel like reddish under certain light .
We got our 2014 fully loaded BMW X5 for only 26k with 24k miles on it. Gotta love depreciation.
To be fair though, you’re comparing a 5-year old car with technology that’s more akin to a mid-level 2019 X1/X2.
I bought a 2017 XC90 for 28k with 30k on it, my car is two years old, yours is five....bad choice.

If you want to change the bass setting more efficiently, start with the media button; scroll over to sound settings and go from there. Not so hard.

How about memorizing where the buttons are? Personally, I prefer old school buttons instead of touch screens but those console buttons need to be higher up so you don't have to look so far down.

The X5 is not 112k. I looked closely at the window sticker you showed us, and it CLEARLY says at the top, "2019 BMW X7 xDrive 50i" That's a full size Luxury SUV with a V8. This is a Mid Size Luxury SUV with a Straight 6. This video was full of mistakes. And I think your hate toward this car was unwarranted. Overall, this was a crappy video compared to your usual content. I'm not hating, I love your vids, your one of my favourite channels. KEEP IT THAT WAY.

I recently purchased a BMW - instead of another Mercedes GLE. The X5 is superior in every way - it's an amazing machine.
Q7 is not cheaper if you get the same drive train. The base Q7 comes with an underpowered 2.0 that puts out 248hp vs. the BMW's standard at 335hp. Pay for the step up engine in the Q7 to an equivalent 3.0, and the base cost are almost identical. And the Q7 is Fugly...

This is the first review of any BMW where I heard the 8 Speed ZF transmission was inconsistent. Most are marveled by it, many saying its telepathic. He’s just an all around “hater”. Complaining about iDrive? Try the Lexus, Volvo, or Mercedes MBUX infotainment, and he will be begging for iDrive. KBB is bias, to the max!

I got a great deal on a used 2020 X5 and it has Android Auto in Apple CarPlay at no charge.
Great review, that MSRP is completely out of control! Especially when you look at what Kia and Hyundai are packing into their new SUVs . Got it, not the same league. But with unrealistic high prices people are going to walk away.

Most people lease Luxury cars, BMW is 80-90%... MSRP is irrelevant. Keep the options reasonable and this car is in the $700 range.
Agreed - honestly though, the majority of the people that are looking at BMW aren't considering Kia and Hyundai SUVs. I just got a 2020 X5, I was looking at Audi and Mercedes...I wasn't looking at Kia, just like I wasn't looking at the Lambo SUV lol

Hey Micah, Have you ever counted which manufacturer has “the most” Sub Menus by counting how many screens deep you can actually go? How did we ever manage before screens? Did we have 1000 buttons, knobs, and Toggles? Oh and LOL I always get pissed when I see under the STANDARD EQUIPMENT List Items that have been standard on 98% of vehicles for decades and then mention items that shouldn’t appear in the list like Hood Struts, Glove Box, Etc.

When you’re a bmw owner all the options come as memory response. Bass can be found under both radio or external input like Bluetooth. Ex: press audio twice and you get to choose from fm, am, satellite and audio setup. So this video is nullified.

After my experiences with a BMW 328, I vowed to never again buy another, reliability sucks, maintaining it is through the roof, hell my 07 Jaguar XK was far cheaper to maintain, and that’s saying a lot.

Are they planning on a redesign anytime soon on your precious Grand Cherokee? This model has been out for over 9 model years at this point....Long in the tooth is an understatement!!
Funnily enough, I have a '17 Grand Cherokee Limited and a '19 X5 40i. The sticker price of the X5 was almost exactly 50% higher than the Jeep's, and it shows. ~$20-25k gets you an entirely different level of car. Similar kind of gap between the Grand Cherokee and the Kia Optima rental I had for a few weeks. The engine, the transmission (both ZF 8-speeds in the X5 and GC, but it's more responsive and smoother in the X5), the infotainment/tech, the build/material quality, comfort, noise isolation... You get what you pay for with any car under 6 digits, really.

The front end's proportions are not well put together. They're going with the Lexus approach of giant grill openings for no apparent reason...

You should have specified "this" car, vs "a" car. Your initial comment was general in nature and implied that no car is considered an investment and will always depreciate in value. As for the complaint of the buttons and infotainment, it's reviewer disease. If you'd actually own the car you'd get used to it and know where the buttons were by heart and/or muscle memory. The inflexibility of the rear seats and that it took until 2021 for BMW to include android auto in all of it's models really does suck though. The carplay add on charge past the first year is just BMW taking a page out of Apple's playbook, maybe they should make an Apple/BMW car... But that would mean they would have to share profits, so probably not.

Apple charges carmakers between $60 and $100 per car for Apple CarPlay so there’s no such thing as free CarPlay. Automakers are factoring that into the final cost .

Akil Hodge yes very expensive, you can get some X5 for 60K or 70K or 80k but they want have all the options, just having the V8 only is and extra 20K. However they all expenses. 1000 dollars or more monthly payments expectedly if you buy it.

Publications should require their reviewers exhibit at least a minimum IQ performance level, if they're sincerely attempting credible reviews. Most reviewers consider the tech in current model BMW's to be some of the best in the business, and not terribly hard to understand and master. Also, I would rather watch somebody less interested in attempting comedy, and more focused on presenting the car..

As a competitor to the BMW X5, add Cadillac XT5 and Lincoln Nautilus. Also, lower in cost.
