    I'm with Jakub on this one. Feels like the technology really isn't there yet to have this level of integration. That pause between saying your request and the car responding would drive me crazy. Also, not having Android Auto at this point is unforgivable. That interior looks amazing, but it's not worth it if it's not usable.

    • @wm6337
      @wm6337 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@wm6337 you can have android auto on any car, even if the car doesn't support android auto.

      @@TheStraightPipes The Tech in cars (especially when doing something that can be as dangerous as driving) need to be super intuitive.
      My iPhone is easily controlled by my 2-year-old without me showing him how to do anything. That is intuitive. Car tech needs to be on this level. You don't want to be figuring out how to turn off your seat heater while your focus should be on the road.
      Intuitive, otherwise get it out of the f***'n car.

    I'm with Yuri on this. The X5 is a gigantic toy, and I love it. In today's age, even the most simplest infotainment system requires a day or two of just sitting in the car playing around with buttons to learn stuff. I do worry about all of the old people who actually can afford a X5 who would definitely struggle with this.

    • @luiscastro5456

    • @floki1664
      @floki1664 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@luiscastro5456 Lol wrong way to look at things. We'll get old too sure, but we grew up with more technological knowledge. Using infotainment in an X5 can be learned in 30 seconds by an average teenager. Sure we don't know how to build a table with our hands, but we can always use an app and pay some 5 dollars to do it for us ;)
      Also, most people buying an X5 now are 30-40 years old. 50-60 year olds are buying Ford Escapes lol.

      It’s really not that bad as he made it seem. Issue is people don’t read the manual. Taking a week or 2 to learn the the tech in a vehicle you will have for years is nothing. System is actually very intuitive and most of the features are useful.

    • @RChyshkevych

      All standard vehicle operations are the same. At the end of the day it all depends on what a person wants to learn, regardless of age. In 10 years this will all look low tech. Technology always moves forward, get use to it.

    • @MathsYknow
      @MathsYknow 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RATTMAN I haven't taken a week or two to learn the tech in my Mazda6 company car which I'll have for years. All I did was figure out how to turn the most annoying "helpful" features off, but I admit I'm an anomaly because I only own a classic car and tech isn't my thing. However, I bet that a lot of BMW buyers are richer / older / busier than the average person, and accordingly they buy this SUV for the image and sell it in two years without getting to grips with half the tech. :p

    • @RATTMAN
      @RATTMAN 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      MathsYknow As I mentioned before a little time learning the tech upfront pays off in the long run. I’ve actually had the new X5 since February and I love the tech. Makes driving a pleasure. Low tech Classics have there place too, but for everyday driving, load her up with tech please.

    Compliment Sandwich:
    I love the look and color of the brown leather seats.
    This looks like it has a lot of superfluous technology. I get the point of pushing functions to the screens so they're upgradable; but if your first version is a UX nightmare, you've failed. As a software engineer, I always say that people will forgive you for being late if you get it right, but they'll never give you credit for being on time (or early) if you get it wrong. It reminds me of when Samsung would seemingly throw every feature they could think of into their phones to find out which ones people liked.
    The look of the exhaust really bothers me. Is it impossible to make exhaust tips that integrate into the bumper and are actually connected to the exhaust?
    The exhaust/engine noise sounds good.

      What you explained is my biggest problem with BMW's introduction of new tech. It's like they don't even quality check it before releasing it and the consumer is forced to figure out how it works. It gets better over time, but I'm definitely on board with releasing a more complete package than an introduction.

    We've had our X5 since February and love it. Yes, it's a lot of tech and there is a learning curve. However, there is a lot of car for the money here all things considered. Styling is top notch, materials are great. We drove pretty much everything in the class and below/above and found the G05 to be the best one. The X5 looks fantastic with 20" wheels and 315/35/20's...almost as big as my old Vette!

    I know I wouldn't like the voice commands at all. I rarely use Siri or voice to text on my phone, it doesn't always work right or it's slow to react so its not worth the frustration to use. I think some of the tech is great though, like the reversing and parking features (awesome use of the 360 cam) and the self-driving aids.

    Great review guys, as always. Happy to see that your approved of the looks. I agree. It's not too outlandish compared to the new 7 series - I think the new X3 grille is too big as well for it's body size.
    As a driver of a 2016 3 series, I felt a little jealous when this new iDrive was revealed but yeah it does feel a little more cumbersome. But I'm always willing to learn new things, especially when it comes to technology.
    Not a fan of the digital gauges though.
    Haha I like Yuri's line about having a BMW so you can look cool 😋 I always identify with Yuri and his enthusiasm for the tech side of cars but then again I am an Android user so that part me sympathizes with Jacob.

      335HP = 250kW and torque = 500Nm.
      HP/1.34=kW
      ft/lbs*1.36=Nm
      100kW = 134HP
      100ft/lbs = 136Nm
      Divide and multiple as required. Hope this helps. Another trick I use is keep a copy of Wheels magazine and just refer to the showroom section and look it up.

    Just use the standard voice command from the steering wheel (is that still available on iDrive 7?). On iDrive 6 you can just push the voice button on the wheel and say the name of any function in iDrive and it will do it. "Sport Displays", "Equalizer", "Tire Pressure", etc. all work fine. No need to navigate the menus or take your eyes off the road.

My 2014 Ford Focus has the basic Sync system from back in the late 2000s and it's honestly hilarious to press the button and talk to the car, all my friends make fun of the lady pronouncing 'bluetooth' as "blue-ooth' ... It's the only convenient way to get my Bluetooth streaming music started. Every time I get in the car the radio is on Aux even though I was using Bluetooth streaming when I turned the car off. Great review guys! It is an awesome car, the leather looks unbelievable but damn am I with Jakub on the technology. If I want to turn a ventilated seat on, I just want to hit one button. Not hit a button, then use the touch screen. Not talk to the car and ask it to "cool my seat". Not use a weird hand gesture over the shifter. Just hit one, damn button. I feel like it'd all be confusing at first, impressive for a short while after you learn it, then just exhausting after the new wears off.
