I've been watching the auctions in Japan and very few cars are selling / meeting reserve so sellers have to get serious about whether they actually want to sell or if they are just there to cash in on the over-inflated values we've seen the past almost two years. That's why the lot is so full, nothing is moving because reserves are sky high!
That's a thing I learned that made my dream car less depressing. If you look at the reserve prices ect. its pretty depressing, but then I learned about searching the data on cars that recently went across the block. They're not selling for those prices at all! The no reserve ones are selling for around my price range too.

Jimmy Oakes just got rid of his pewter s15 because Adam sold him the yellow s15 he wanted to make the pewter one into anyways and to me it’s not been upsetting just happy it it came together for him

Perhaps you could ask the guys that have been importing cars for years to explain the grading system to you. To me it looks like the more stock a car is (engine bay wise at least) the higher grading a car can get vs something modified but cleaner

Bondo- tweaks in the metal- one thing. Drooping puddy, I can ASSURE you- only gets worse with time. *and fast*. avoid using it, and avoid buying cars with it on it, unless ofcourse you're ready to do some body work and make it your own. I've used red puddy on projects of my own- and within one cold season it's cracked and bubbling and I have to redo it by summer with the right stuff. love your channel Sammit, walks around the parks and seeing whats out there is always fascinating to me- Can't help but wonder all the stories these cars would tell if they could speak to us.
I think it was a popular craze during COVID and now people who were buying into the hype are now calming down. People are also more aware of rust issues and aren't willing to pay high prices for them anymore. Obviously, as you said collector cars will always stay high priced, but I think the extreme hype is over, at least until S15s and R34s become legal in the US. Then there will be another spike for those, unfortunately. I've been wanting an S15 for like 15 years, so I'm hoping to get one before the prices go back up

I put your videos on in my shop because you're one of the guys who "get it". So another point of reference for you... I've been deeply involved in the vintage BMW market for twelve years and have watched the rise of those cars. There is a clear cooling off happening there in this market as well. A lot of investor "enthusiasts" are getting nervous, as some guys I know have liquidated a good portion of their collections. Doesn't matter so much for many of us who aren't doing this for the money.

all assets such as houses, stocks etc are all coming down. people are holding onto their money with cost of living going up (fuel, inflation - we have no lettuce in Aus lol, interest rates), so naturally discretionary spending is declining. I wouldn't say it is "correcting" the car prices and collectables are not immune to economy changes. and the economy is in really uncertain times.
I damn hope they come down. I remember watching one of your videos back in 2020 before I got to Japan, and in the background was an S30 Fairlady Z for 2.3 Mil Yen. As soon as I got here in 2021, it was already impossible to find a S30 for under 4 Mil Yen. I just hope I can still make my dream come true of owning and driving an S30 in Japan before I leave.

The problem is the hype, people buy JDM just to resell it for higher price in the future, but alot of people are not caring anymore so they will not buy it... And alot of emission rules all over the world will make this cars road circulation much difficult...
The conversion rate for yen to USD has actually been hovering around 100¥ to $0.75, so when that S2K sold for 31, it actually is closer to $23k-$24k USD, which is just DUMB cheap. It’s a great time for the US buying from Japan right now.
Auction cars must be seen by the buyer if its possible by any chance! Photos hide ALOT and cameras footage too! What i know that in saudi arabia where i live ppl most of the time looking for japan imported mercedes W140s and idk if euro/american cars comes to japan right steering wheel based or left based like what we normally used to drive! And i never knew ur an R33 fan! Finally we share the love of in my opinion the best GTR generation and theres the chaser JZX100 1 of my dream cars! To me it looks like they incorrectly grade the ones that they have a hunch some foreigner will buy and correctly grade those that they see a local buying as the case with the roof damaged one and the sun damaged one because they see through the auction who is buying what and if they see foreigner buying a damaged car incorrectly graded for a high price they will keep doing it. That is why as you stated Sammit get someone to check the car you wanted who is a pro at it.
