Don Williams was known as the Gentle Giant and when he passed away the media memorialized him as "A singer of plain spoken country songs". Love from Texas!!!
Way back about some 40 or something years ago when i was a young teenager my Dad took me to a Don Williams concert and i loved it. I love his voice. He has always been one of my favorites.
Thanks for this channel. After listening to rock and roll and everything in between for decades, I have recently found myself yearning for something different. Dad always listened to country and I am joining him. This song makes me smile and that is never bad. Don Williams is an artist worth exploring. Thanks again.
It’s a great rabbit hole to crawl down, Don Williams. The combination of the material and the way Don performed it is unbeatable. You won’t be able to find a bad song from him. He simply was and is one of the best recording artists on he planet Earth.
Oh man I forgot about this song lol. This was such a beautiful song back in the Day sometimes it's hard to hear these songs because it takes me back to another time and memories of people that are gone.
Country music, and even bluegrass, is for everyone, no matter who they are. Some are just exposed to it earlier than others. It is the music for the common man, and uniquely American.
Also check out Dwight Yoakam! He's got that twang in his voice, old fashioned, like Buck Owens, but with his own style. Guitars, Cadillacs, Ain't That Lonely Yet, Little Ways, Little Sister
I saw Don Williams in concert once. Ronnie Milsap was the act that performed first. Ronnie came out in a hot pink sequin jumpsuit,, got up on his piano and jumped off...(mind you Ronnie Milsap is blind). I know he paced the stage to know where everything was but he still made me nervous, although I enjoyed his music as well. When it was Don's turn to perform, he came out in his blue jeans, cowboy hat and boots, sat on a stool, playing his guitar and singing one song after another until he was through with his set. When he was through he thanked everybody for coming out, and that was it. Such a difference from one performer to the other.
That was fast in playing another Don Williams! I told you he is very addictive!! Two of my favourite are Lord I Hope This Day is Good and Some Broken Hearts Never Mend.
It's funny that you lost the bet, but won the prize! When this song came out, I was 18 and going through a very difficult time. I found a lot of comfort in this music.
I was introduced to Don Williams by an Aunt when I was 9. She is now in a nursing home still listens to Don Williams. Your My Best Friend is a song I know you will love it is her favourite of his.
Thanks Jo. Some of my fondest memories are of working in a nursing home in Edmund Oklahoma. I learned so much. It was my first medical experience. I've been in healthcare ever since. See you around Jo.
Thank goodness for lost bets, huh? Something that hit me as I was watching your reaction is that Don Williams' style of the soft-spoken, laid-back, endearing delivery is a perfect analog to how you do your reaction videos. It's as if y'all's styles were made for each other. Thanks for another great reaction and see you next time!
It would be very hard indeed not to feel good when listening to Don. He’s been my favorite singer for many years. I heard him in an interview once say that the vast majority of his songs were about the power of love. So cool and we need more of that today. Thank you sir and please do more from him.
All great suggestions. I'd add "Miracles" and "Rake and Ramblin Man" to this list of suggestions. So many great songs over his career. I got to see him in concert twice.
This is what is needed in todays society . What a wonderful world it would be . There is too much hatred today and this makes a very unpleasant world . I just can’t understand why people just cannot get along .
I love his lyrics reflecting the same old battles that are still going on here in 2022. "Dont believe the price of gold" "Gasoline is in short supply" "The rising price of gettin by" Like my mother used to hollar at us boys, Sit your butt down at the table and eat, its just food !! Life finds a way !!
Excellent song :) I would love to see your reaction to David Frizzell he had many songs but the best being "you're the reason God made Oklahoma' and "I'm gonna hire a wino"
I appreciate your reaction and I thought you would enjoy more Don in your life. I agree with you that just listening to Don sing, it allows your soul to smile.
When my boss and I couldn't really relate to each other about most things we did bond over Don Williams music and our mutual love of his talent. We both had a good cry when this talented man passed away. We both took our very elderly fathers to one of Don's last concerts and it was fantastic. My father had tears thru most of that concert because of his sweet calming voice. It was a great memory for both my boss and I. 😥🥰
About 15 years ago I had a young man working for me. He used to kind of make fun/laugh at me and my country music. He had been working with me for about 6 months, or so and one morning whenhe came rolling in, I heard the radio in his car blaring country music. My turn to laugh at him.
Great song by Don Williams. Thank you for pulling this one out and dusting it off. I haven't heard it in ages but it's as beautiful as I remember. His voice is so smooth and he makes singing seem effortless.
I am so happy you did this song- and more than that, I’m happy you lost that basketball bet. Country gets in your soul. Good, old country like this. Enjoy your “Gentle Giant” rabbit hole, friend. It only gets better.
Although he was a very popular country star in the 1970s and 1980s, Don Williams was one of the most successful country artists globally scoring hits in Canada, the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Australia, and New Zealand. He even toured Zimbabwe in the late 1990s and was very popular there. Check out the TH-cam videos highlighting his African performances later in his career. Music truly connects people, and Don's music certainly did.
I'm glad you lost that bet ! :) Always look forward to your reactions. Don Williams had so many great songs, one of my favs is "I'm just a country boy". Thanks for your videos!
"Till the Rivers All Run Dry" performed and cowrote my Mr. Don is so good, Pete Townsend of the Who covered and sang it at concerts. He was called the "Gentle Giant". Listening to his music is like having dinner at your Grandma's house.
My favorite version of the song, kills the Rivers all run dry, what is a concert that Don Williams did in Africa. At one point in that song he stopped singing to listen to the audience singing the chorus of that song. You could see the joy in his eyes and it was so beautiful as that audience saying that chorus
Just saw i had not hit the sub button yet? Sorry bout that. Thot sure i had. Its done. Now! Don williams.. soo smooth. Remember this one from way bk . I think i heard it in the 80s? Maybe sooner? But anyway, great slow dance tune. Lov that steady bass in the bk . Nice! Subtle! Good ole country. ..dan. 4/07/22 ps. Arent you glad you lost that bet? Lol good for you.
I love the little political statement in there, "That right is right and left is wrong". (it's supposed to be a compromise!) I also love that you mentioned his hat. I remember seeing him walk on the stage in 1982 to accept his Grammy. He had his tuxedo on, and that old sweat stained hat. I LOVED it! lol
Omg I appreciate u and ur channel so much, country music is amazing and I’m so glad more people are listening to it, being open minded and realizing just how great it is
New Sub here. Not sure why i didn't join earlier this song as I've watched quite a few of your reactions, but your appreciation for Don Williams convinced me...
