Use this back in the 90's when i was playing American Civil War wargames and used gold leaf on uniforms and cuffs, was my dads suggestion as he used to work with it alot at the time. was hell getting it on small for details but when i succeeded it looked amazing.

I used some gold sheets in the past (I do believe I used some fake gold, but I do have real ones as well). It is fun to do so and the results are interesting.

Love it. Question - how hard wearing is it? Would you go over with some gloss varnish?
It’s pretty good, about as durable as Matt paint. You absolutely can varnish though, you will lose some of the finish though.

Can't say i ever used gold leaf like that. But that's awesome, especially for bigger flat areas.
Regarding the water colours (which I had no clue even existed^^). What's the chance of them re'activating when varnishing the model?
Hey, yeh for sure it works MUCH better on flat surfaces. the WC didn't reactivate for me when I varnished. I left it for about a week to cure though (I dont think this is necessary it just took me this long to get round to it.)

Think I'll have to have a looksee if I can find any here. Don't mind using oil washes, but if I can do it with non hazardeous materials, that's what I'm gonna do. (-:
@@Himle_ Be careful with watercolour pigments. If the pigments are toxic they can be more dangerous than oil paints (with the same pigment) since our bodies are designed to really easily absorb water (So it can be easier to poison yourself). If you are careful that shouldn't be an issue (Don't Lick Brushes!)
Tangentially related note: I once heard that an organisation asked companies to send them paints to decide which can get a "school/child safe" monicker. Every company that send paint didn't get the "school safe" while those that didn't send their paints for evaluation got it because their paints were defaulted to the commonly accepted acrylics = safe, oils = safe.
You could use the excess foil on some ice cream, seen it before but yet to try it!

My question would be, how long does this last for? If I were to use it on my Lion model is it going to start peeling off after a few months?
Well the honest answer is I don’t know as I only did this less than a month ago, but it’s widely used to apply gold leaf in the art world so should be durable.

It’s about as durable as matte paint is. You can varnish I did on the SC but you change the finish of the leaf.
