House doesn’t remember his patient’s names because he doesn’t want to get attached.
But he remembered Esther.
Yet he wrote her name wrong
One is simply the result of the other.
He decided to not remember names, because he doesn't want to live with the burden of 1000 Esther's on his mind.
His Great White Whale.
Or did he just remember it because he was having the fail on his list? Maybe he did remember the name, because he was so sure he did not do anything wrong, but still did not manage to solve the riddle. It does remember me to that one episode, where he lost a patient and everyone wanted to cheer him up and when Wilson came and did try it, House completely shouted at him "YEEES . It´s NOT fair, THATS the point.... I did EVERYTHING right and the patient STILL died."
I think he is softer, than he claims he is. But then I can understand him a bit. I also am a person, that does not really count on people very much because they mostly lie ..... And they lie to more to their own faces, than they want it to be true...
@@Miley-RayStewart❤❤❤❤
How come we never keep track of the "assists"?? Wilson deserves NBA status for his award winning stat.
I think the best part of this particular episode was that Wilson was POSITIVE it would work this time. Usually he does it unintentionally.
The John Stockton of medical diagnosis
Elementary, my dear Wilson!
@@jc4jaxdamn you beat me to it 😂
Gotta love that Wilson's random talks with House always give him inspiration.
I find that a weakness of the script.
It's just a vehicle used by the authors to explain House's inner thoughts to us the viewers.
@@oscargr_ agreed
@@oscargr_ Well, isn't that just elementary?
@@oscargr_ I've never seen the show, so I can't FULLY attest to your point, but as devil's advocate, myself and my best mate of 20 years are similar, for context we're both 28, okay we aren't Doctors, but we *can* finish each other's sentences, which is my point to argue that it may not be such a weakness, from personal experience you just need somebody to phrase it in just the right way to make you go "Aah yeah!"... I dunno, in a TV show it can get repetitive but, it is plausable
@@patrickhannon4217 Yeah, but here the brilliant new insights that house gets is just the words "hiding aces" from a completely different context that happens to also be in the same episode.
This kind of coincidence, happens too often and I am not a fan.
Give you another one if those typical drama series stuff that doesn't happen in real life.
You familiar with the series called "Criminal Minds"?
Whenever the "team" (of FBI profilers ) brings a profile to the local police department, they all get to say 2 lines.
That's because the actors have good management. No one actor should get more lines than another. It has no connection to reality.
9:39 that is not to satisfy his ego for being right. House felt like he failed Esther for not being able to put a cause to her case.
House could ask a child with terminal cancer if she was ready to die. He could face being wrong as long as the patient recovered. He could not handle not knowing why.
Yes, it is a show. I think a good one as I could get sucked into forgetting it was a show. Hugh Laurie lives this character.
it's so telling how he slumpes down like he finally righted a wrong, not in a satisfactory way, in a finally I can let go way
He IS Dr. House 👀🔥🖤
Nah, he's a sociopath, he doesn't care about his patients, he only cares about them as much as he cares about his puzzles. The guy breaks law all the time, he betrays, cheats, and steals, as much as he can as long as it doesn't affect him.
In this episode, he even broke into a closed cafeteria just because he was thirsty. He didn't see anything wrong with his action, he felt like he was privileged enough to do this.
So no, he doesn't care about Esther. If Esther's family allowed him to autopsy Esther's body, he would have his answer and wouldn't remember her name for 12 years.
@@herumuharman6305 Congratulations for only seeing the surface level of House.
@@MadSpectre47 Nope, have watched the entire series multiple times. I think it's you who can only see the surface level of House.
The way he answerd the parents with "I dont know" when he was asked if the kid is going to be alright was not out of sarcasm, It was pure uncertainty knowing he is facing his demon again that one decease who killed ester and probably leaves him cluesless and uncertain if he will be successful this time
It is a battle with the uncertain , the unknown that leads to death. And you try to prevent it every step of the way, but you keep on failing until you succeed. Or not ...
In that one episode, I love Wilson's comment that they cannot take Esther's value because Cuddy does not let them test the kid's correct values. Wilson seemed so wonderfully upset while everyone around goes half-crazy trying to save the child. Sadly it is not in this collection of scenes.
When it comes to placing bets, the House always wins 🙌🏻
That was clever
I saw what you did there. 😉
😏🖤
Nice one!
Wow, I’m surprised they never used a line like this once thru the whole series.(at least I think) Very good line hahaha
Out of pure respect to the guy who keeps this channel I had developed 6th sence and came here just a minute after upload.
Is there a full episode of Ester the woman they are talking about died who had these symptoms?

The name is House. Greg House
this is one of my favorite episodes because it shows how much House cares about the puzzle and needing to know "why"
Not enough people ask the why question in their circumstances.
I love this episode too. Great story. And House and Wilson look great in tuxedos. 😁
House was so much more of an actual character in the first few seasons. That moment when Foreman confirms Erdheim-Chester was so good. It wasn't a flashy moment. It was just a fantastic character moment with incredible acting.
I wish I could find a doctor as persistent as House...I just keep getting sent home and told "come back when you're worse" but my worse always sends me to the ER. Then it repeats. 😢
I'll pray for you! Mine ended up being MS. Sometimes they eventually get there.
As a doctor, I hate that we have to spend only a certain amount of minutes on each OPD patient - because we have to see 40-50 people in 8 hours
Sadly, House is a fictional character.
My mother is going the same thing. All I can do is drive her to the ER when she gets worse.
Refuse to leave
Of course 42 is House's lucky number. He wants all the answers to life, the universe, and everything.
I see what you did there.
I think the problem is that you don't really know what the question is...
But it's the GREAT question! The Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything!
Yes, but what actually is it?
Well...just everything...you know...everything!
alt42 = *, the wild card
THAT is the answer
So happy I'm not the only one who caught that! 😁

This episode literally pushed House to his wit's end. At the end his subconscious pulled out the answer from Wilson's jabbering. Definitely in the top ten episodes of all.
Easily my favorite episode in the entire series. Might sound insane given that we have perfect episodes such as houses head, Wilson’s heart, broken, no reason, euphoria and three stories. But this encapsulates everything that I enjoy about the series: the chemistry between the entire cast is superb, everyone is dressed snazzy, House pausing when he turns around and sees Cameron is so funny to me, the mystery is so good because house knew the answer from the beginning but it just wasn’t visible to us or the team as yet, House’s obsession is also on full display here, and finally, we get Wilson benefitting from this all by listening to house and winning the poker tournament in the end. Such a fun episode. Going to rewatch it now!
Bro writes "ataxia" on the board & they still think it's all chill and nothings wrong is wild ngl
1:38 “Death”. That one’s untreatable. 😂😂😂
Well, sometimes.
I was just thinking about this episode yesterday. The song that was going on while they were playing poker was playing while I was hanging out with some friends. I instantly recognized it, and I was like. "Hey, this is the same song from House md season 2, episode 17, all in." My friends just stared at me and told me I watched House way to much, to which I replied that they just didn't watch it enough.
Based comeback! 🔥🖤
The song from the beginning? "Deed I Do" in case anyone was curious.
😅😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😂
Great memory!
“I don’t drink”
***proceeds to take drugs in front of the patients mother to make sure she doesn’t think he’s a better human being
For so many years, my Tuesday nights revolved around this show. Brilliant.
9:39 The way they all kind of went “wtf??” Facial expressions when he hit the counter took me out 😂😂😂😂
Dr. House is able to figure out a patient's condition just by eliminating the basic signs and then goes to the "books" for more information and gets the culprit by having an "AHA" moment!
Great job Dr. House!
This show reminds me of that meme where aliens in movies only attack the US, in House MD, the world's rarest diseases always end up in PPB Hospital 😂
I think they do make it clear at some points that patients either look for house knowing about him or are referred to him by other doctors
@@Kugan23 Yeah, but in this case, the coincidence seems enormous, like, House not only came across a VERY rare disease, he came across it for the SECOND time in his life and just by overhearing some symptoms from a consult from Cuddy 🤣
If a disease is defined as being “rare” but it often kills the patient quickly then it wouldn’t be a “confirmed” case if the patients doctors ruled it out because it’s so rare.
Usually patients go to other doctors before House. House is the last line
I have the entire series on DVD. I don't know why I spend so much time watching these clips, lol.
easier than watching DVDs
I would love to see these shows.
whoa, the mom looks so much like Cameron that i totally thought it was her.

@@MoodyBluesRequiem80 Not me, but I did notice there is SOOOOO much similarity between them. Might be that thing, yk, the one where there are about 4 or 7 ppl in the world who look exactly like you
was about to say that
I love it when they found out that he was able to cure the kid and when he hit that wall he had a sigh of relief that moment was heartbreaking for me House is always been so emotionally cut off and at that moment he was emotionally invested in trying to save that kid.
Even geniuses never stop learning
42. Life the universe and everything.
>walks in
>your old doctor was wrong, your son is dying
>’is he gonna be alright?’
>’idk’
>leaves
Thats because he failed to cure the last patient with the same pattern so he doesn't know if he will be successful this time around
I’d like to assume this was why House greatly values a team, because of those desperate times failing to diagnose patients by himself.
The series makes it clear that while House is a genius, his team is a major factor in his success. Not only because they run tests but also because they each specialize in some subject and House can pick their brains and bounce ideas off the group. He’d be great but not as effective without his team.
Indeed! This show proves that STRENGTH IS IN NUMBERS!! 🖤
@@saltyk9869 This is also why House's team always has some kind of objection throughout the case, because House does not want people who just agree with him
Several brains are better than just 1 brain.
and yet by the end of the episode, it proved house was *right* with his diagnosis on Esther
We need a show like this, but about social work. I'd love to see it.
That'd be a cool idea
That and a packet of amphetamines!
haha a show that makes social workers look like Sherlock Holmes geniuses instead of bureaucratic paper pushers?
@@just-tess have you ever seen a social worker work? They do welfare checks and sometimes work with the police too, if needed be.
This was one of the best episode in first seasons
Blood in the stool and urine contamination isn't exactly something normal. I love that the team treats it as something nonsensical until they understand the severity of the issue.
The Erdheim-Chester episode is my favorite of all time.
My favorite is S2E2 - Autopsy, narrowly beating this one.
Sorry, Esther.
House even misspelt her name. On the file it said Ester. He didn't care about her, he only cared about the puzzle.
@@hellboy19991 Eh, far more likely the prop department didn't care about her. 😉
@@hellboy19991 said with all the certainty of someone who has never seen a coffee cup in Game of Thrones.
@@just-tess Yes, she was 70. What’s the problem there?
Also, it is hilarious how they always second-guess House! He is 99.9% right all the time but yet they always doubt him!
In some ways, its their job to do that, and he wouldn't hire people who didn't
Because House is literally wrong in like 98% of episodes. It's only a very very few episodes where his first guess is right, this episode being one of them. In practically every single other episode, his first guess is completely wrong, actually his first FEW guesses are all completely wrong, and it's only right at the end that he realises it's something completely different.
If he didn't have the other doctors to point out that his first guesses are nearly always wrong, then he wouldn't be able to get to the correct answer as often.
that's exactly what motivates people to be right all the time, no doubt, no trophy
Dashing looking House skipped a party to come save a kid who isn't his patient. Goes tp show how he isn't in it for the praise or money but to actually help people
……its House. Of course he’s not in it for the gd praise lmao. But praise, money, and “helping people” aren’t the only options. Being obsessed with medical puzzles is another
Yes, but never let him hear you say that. He wants everyone to believe that it's only because he likes the challenge and being right. It reminds me of the scene in Jekyll where "Hyde" is praised for saving a child's life from a lion, and he says, "No. I killed a lion. There's a difference."
@@cheryllwaldrop9732 yeah the entirety of the show, just displays time and time and time again that House really does care about people and wants to help them, and he just pretends that he doesn't.
It's actually the puzzle.
It's both.
Top 5 episodes whole series
I frequently ask the doctors, "What if my body didn't read that book?".
My favorite TV drama ever....and I go back to "Medical Center" and "The FBI" c.1969
All through the series I was hoping Foreman would eventually learn to trust House. He always doubted him in every episode. And House always proved him wrong.
He's the alternte Cuddy
"I don't drink", pops painkillers lol
The kid's blue eyes are amazing. I'm wonder if they are real or was there image editing. But observe the white of his eyes. It has a slight blue tint. It looks like the video editing went out of bounds of the iris. A common mistake when creating blue eyes with editing software.
I agree. Amazing eyes.
I don’t think you can fake nystagmus so I’d think you are correct.
I'm still surprised why they always doubt House

The BEST episode of House ever.
House was also a specialist in Nephrology. He did have a patient in S-4 with a kidney issue that was causing her to be the patient that week. But I always found it interesting his character specialized in Infectious Diseases, and all things Kidneys. 🤔

My Godfather died of Erdheim-Chester Disease, and we were all yelling at the screen when at the end, he said: "Start the treatment" There is no treatment. He died in his 50's after years of agony from chemotherapy and anything else the Doctor's thought to throw at the wall. He was loosing finger and toes and going in an outta comas! It was absolutely nasty!
Chemotherapy and immunotherapy is the treatment. There isn't a cure but treatments slow the damage from the cancer.
@@WalkingNowhere okay, but Erdheim-Chester isn't cancer

House is a lot like deadpool, seeing weird signs in unrelayed things that lead to carnage, I mean answers...😂
Wearing glasses to look through a microscope and using a pipet at an angle...did they not hire someone to show the actors how to use medical/scientific equipment?
