My dad took me to this game as a nine year old ( me not my dad ) and i remember as we got of the train a train load of millwall had just pulled in on the other platform.
As we exited the station there was fighting all along green st not standoffs involving sixteen year olds waving their arms around but grown men literally battering each other.
My dad had to get a mounted policeman to walk us down to the ground with me virtually underneath the horse ! Think we left with about half an hour to go to avoid a repeat .

I was at the game in the South Bank. All West Ham were inside the ground before Millwall turned up.I can remember hearing their roar and Harry the Dog walking out onto the terrace initially alone. Then walking over and giving it the come on then to us.

I went to this game, it was West Ham's lowest crowd of the season, about 22k, loads put off going, because they knew it was going to be carnage. This is what I saw. 300 Millwall storming the south bank is a lie, they was put in the away bit in the corner, when the Millwall players come out to warm up, about 300 Millwall started clapping, and that was the starting pistol for the biggest West Ham mob I had ever seen on the other side of the South Bank, trying to break through the police separating the fans, West Ham might not have been a big mob travelling away, but at home, they was the best in the country, their mob in the South Bank was at least 1000-1,500, the atmosphere was pure evil, another train escort Millwall mob turned up in the away section, reckon they was 2000 Millwall in there, West Ham won 3-0, coming out the ground, I see top boys from other London firms, who had turned up to watch the fun, well know faces from Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, and a very well known Cockney Red, who turned round and said " This is Ali v Frazier of the hooligans, just had to see it for myself" the police won this one, they stopped the trouble in and outside the ground, heard there was a funny verbal exchange on the platform at Upton Park Station, between Bill Gardener & Harry the Dog, that is only thing that might be bollocks in my post, the rest is what I saw on the day.

It was more Tyson v Minnie mouse , Minnie being Millwall.
When gates opened there were 50 in SB. 20 Wall got chased into a corner and get pulverised for 5 min straight before OB formed a line.... after that WH occupied the entrance to the SB and every Millwall had to pass that WH mob and got a kicking. No Wall stormed the SB. Went running towards police lines for protection. Didn't see any fight from Wall.
At most there were 700 Wall , WH outnumbered them. There was a mob on Grn St which further terrorised Wall.
Same story at WHL 78. We run Wall giving their top boy Ginger Brixton a hiding. Boxing day 77 Wall were run from Ilderton to NewX , that's over a mile...not a single Wall on OKR to challenge us.
The idiots had a chant to take the piss out of Wall that year as they were out rivals coming on panorama giving it large.....the chant was "we(Spurs) are worse than Bristol Rovers' on account of Wall getting done by B Rovers on camera.

right with his analysis , one song always stood out in that game , millwall singing we are evil ,with West ham responding with you are wankers , while storming the police barricade inbetween both fans .

@@davidsovereign439 Spot on , it was WH steaming into the Police Barricade never Millwall....on one occasion WH got past the Police Barricade and Millwall got slaps without Wall throwing a punch back......Like most of London I wanted to see Millwall do well as I hated WH..... Millwall's showing was pathetic , the Evening Standard before the game had claimed that 2000 wall would mob up and march thru the Blackwall Tunnel lol

A clickbait headline, for a start Millwall never had a bushwacker firm in 1978, and that's not theoritical, and 300 of them never stormed the South Bank, I was there and I was as close as you could get to the corner that Millwall fans were put in in the South Bank and there was no way that they were going to storm anything, of course it was a big thing at that time as far as hooliganism was concerned in London, Millwall and Chelsea had big reputations in the 70's in London but clubs like West ham had known firms too and this fixture showed it, I don't know precisely what time the Millwall firm did turn up at Upton Park but I can guarantee anyone it certainly wasn't early

Was at that game, we had a massive mob at Queens, millwall came late like every away mob at 20to3 behind mass cops and West ham tried to get at them all along green street but old bill held firm so it was a brick and bottle chucking job felt a bit sorry for one Millwall fan who did not back off plod sent in the dog and bit him in the balls but we were Good at getting in among the opposition, pretending to be millwall we got into the away section in front of their lot, some paid the old boy on the door between Southbank and westside when Millwall came in from the stairs at the back and firm up giving it the millwall we steamed into them and most run back down the stairs them stopping any more coming up but to give credit when due a little firm stood their ground and this ginger geezer looked like he was floating arm and legs going same time he was right handy get bashed he jumped up and was swinging again top top boy anyway old bill dragged us back to our side of Southbank and coins going back and fourth. After the game it was a repeat of before the game along green street, so many plod had it right sawn up, Millwall was disappointing they were just another away mob behind plod ,highlight of the day has to be the ginger one though top man loads of bottle.

Millwall was absolutely mullered , this coming from a Spurs who was their...same as at WHL that year Millwall were mullered.
Didn't see Millwall throw a single punch just cowered like wankers. WH occupied entrance to SB and Wall coming thru the entrance got slaps and running to the western corner of SB where OB lines were to protect Wall.
    Biggest bollox this WH/Wall rivalry
