The hatred in the young unionist males is astonishing. That type of hatred is not self tought. They're kids/teens who are brainwashed into hatred and its sad to see.
As a protestant I agree here those kids on that bonfire didn't have 2 IQs put together. They don't even Know why they are up there. I'm a protestant because that's just what I was born as but these guess aren't protestants they are HUNS and there is a difference 😂
Jesus Christ isn't protestant or catholic. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 2:9Not of works, lest any man should boast. Mathew 11:28Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
The conflict didn't arise as a result of one side wanting to remain British and the other side wanting a united Ireland. It arose as a result of the Catholic areas being subjected to pogroms and the Catholics having no rights in their own native land.
You're right but beyond the religious sectarianism was and still is politics which is misunderstood by so many. The guy did absolutely no research before going on is vlog tour and showed nothing except for loyalists drinking Buckfast and acting like idiots.
Protestant here. It’s a shame to see this. 99% of young Protestants out building bonfires or celebrating the 12th of July couldn’t begin to tell you why they build or celebrate instead they would insist it’s because they hate the ‘other side’. Any old hand will tell you they couldn’t care anymore, my father being one of them. He was right in telling me ‘whilst the catholics learnt the law and politics in prison, Protestants parties and had band parades’. It really shows in today’s times. Don’t get me wrong, there’s definitely rotten tomatoes on both sides..
My next door neighbors, the Gibson family, lived in a predominantly Nationalist area. The Gibson's were the salt of the earth and my mother and father were so appreciative of their help when we needed food or babysitting. This is the side of Northern Ireland not many people see. At the end of the day we are all people and Christian, oh the irony.
Yeah, Gusty Spence pointed that out about the Republicans educating themselves while the Loyalist prisoners were lifting weights and singing the Sash. He knocked them into some sort of order during his time there though.
@@Bellabella-n2iOne sided because this only shows the protestant side. What about the Catholic side? What about the IRA? What about the concept of defending Ireland from the UK? Then you've got muppets flying Palestine flags? Start at home before you fly shit in my country.
These kids 😢. Im northern irish, my mum is Catholic, and my dad was protestant before he passed. They had it hard to begin with that was over 30 years ago! Things have changed, I grew up in both communities, and both communities welcomed me with open arms now a days its a very small number of people who can't let the past sleep.
@@John-e8q4o As my Daddy was an Irish Catholic, my Mum was a Scottish Presby, and I was born in England, it would be a bit much if I weren't to. As far as I'm concerned, I accept most people. Living in the USA right now, and I will say I despise Trump and his pathocracy. I'm moving back to the UK, because he's still in the running, and may even win. People complain about the UK, but living in a Democracy that's about to repeat WWII Germany, I say I'd rather be there despite all her troubles, past and present.
When they say 'Taig'...that is the sectarian Northern Irish equivalent of using the 'N' word. Of course they learn this garbage from their parents, the so called grown ups, like the woman who has lived for 50 years in the same area, the Sandy Row, and knows no other life. Very sad people with closed minds and hard hearts. Failed by numerous governments in Westminster and brain washed with the hate that comes from the local politicians. "This is our culture", she says. Not much of a culture. Sinn Fein are now the highest polling party in Northern Ireland, that tells you all you need to know about the future of this lovely part of the world.
It’s also called “Divide and Conquer” basically if you divide people into certain communities the government can push narratives when the real enemy is The government
The stark difference between the protestants and Catholics in this is educational. In all senses of the word. Rather eye-opening to see the difference in opinions they have of each other.
The only reason loyalist kids feel hatred towards the catholic side is because catholic nationalists are so determined to try and rewrite unionists and at the same time think they’re gonna be ok with that. Logically anyone who gets told their way of life is wrong is gonna be aggressive and defensive about it. As far as they’re concerned, that is their home and the way the do things, anyone trying to change that is ignorant and wrong
The boy at 16:08 🙌🏼 So wise and on the ball. He's not allowed the hate around him to penetrate his mind and consciousness. If I was a millionaire I would sponsor him to get out of the area and do something he's passionate about in life. May the opportunity reach him 🙏🏼
100%. No research into the conflict and the history of the statelet either except for an interest in the Berlin wall which has a completely different political and historical context/was built under completely different conditions. I just wasted 30 odd minutes of my life and merely got a glimpse of loyalists acting like muppets.
Don't take it seriously. The net is filled w uneducated, unskilled ppl trying to make a bit of cash, displaying a kid or a pet or getting ppl to rage so the govts of the world can collect data so as to know wh buttons to push when, in order to manipulate the masses. Don't feel daft, we all fall for it. It's all just mindless pap to keep the masses uneducated, unskilled, and unproductive.
Excellent journalism! You had an old man gripped from beginning to end. Local access the mainstream media could only dream of. A testament to your character
He had good insight into the local areas and the locals, but I thought he could've asked better questions. I was left underwhelmed after the interview with the old fella, i felt he had more to say.
He did no research at all. It was quite embarrassing to watch frankly given that there was no exploration of the historical and political context of the division. Perhaps not intentional but this came across as sensationalist above all and there was very little to learn.
Ireland should 100% be united. Britain should give it back, Northern Ireland cant even manage to govern themselves anyway it’s a shambles. Those Irish who don’t want to be united should just move to the British mainland and be done with it
Yeah an the real Brit cannot understand them 😂 they sound too Irish to him, isn't it funny how lots of the protestants ended up living how they forced the Irish to live, poor and uneducated without hope! Perfect karma! Why they even love the brits when they have them living in squalor 😂 seems like there king don't care about them, Ireland is a far superior country!

To be fair that's not the "full picture" of Belfast or northern Ireland. If you've been up to Belfast recently its not like this. He is just showing the poorer areas because there is higher rates of violence and therefore more content/ sensational stuff. I also found he wasn't asking the right questions. Very compelling video though, insightful to the poorer youth of Belfast
Youll realise though that most people have a religion. People with wealth and money generally dont care about their "culture". Those in poorer areas cling to it like its their territory. Generally speaking theyll fight for drugs and control that way. Usually the wealthier areas dont
It's about as shocking as the romper rooms, which are only shocking to people who hadn't a clue about here because they never covered stuff like that, just Google romper rooms UDA
As a german i have to say the Berlin Wall was different in some ways. It divided two different ideology blocks, two states at that time. People from the communist east fled massively to the west before. In Belfast these walls seperate people who hate each other, would eventually fight again. In Berlin west & east danced together on the fallen wall it was just one of the best days. Love & peace for all who reading this.
The conflict isn't hard to understand. England displaced indigenous irish people hundreds of years ago and replaced them with British settlers. Generations later, this is the fallout between the descendants of both parties
Exactly. Intention being to replace them completely. This is an ethnic/genetic conflict and it can’t be fixed. Simple solution to just return to homelands. Ireland and Scotland. We are whites then.
the population of northern ireland in 1600's was about 23000 not quite sure how so few people could be displaced its like scottish immigrants displacing earlier scottish immigrants lol LMAO the IRISH!! wtf the southern irish are descended from the english and the northerners came from scotland is ireland even a thing?

I'm from the South and 💯 Irish. In 2010 I was in Belfast, we was looking for a pub to watch Ireland France in the world cup play-off. We stupidly asked a bouncer on the door of a bar. We got into taxi and when we arrived in bar, everyone looked at us 😮we go drinks and went up to TV to watch match. Then someone threw gum into my drink and said go home you fenian bastards. I looked up and said I thought the war was over. We left as soon as match was over and quickly got into a taxi and ended up in the Europa Hotel😅
The Loyalist people just get more and more sectarian the closer Ireland gets to reunification sorry You experienced that love its a minority of Nationalists but Unionists see the writing on the wall no identity no culture and soon no Homeland unless they return to Scotland reading this back it sounds sectarian but it is just the truth
As a non-religious man from the Republic of Ireland, the lack of willingness to understand the other side's position is very sad. I'm pro-reunification, but only if Unionists are happy and comfortable with their proposed political and cultural representation of that "new" Ireland. They have generations of history in NI (initially rightly or wrongly), so they need to be acknowledged, as NI is their home. Unionists also need to understand the feelings of Republicans. The British have abused the Irish people for financial and political gain for hundreds of years, including things like mass murder. They made our language and religion illegal and treated us like subhumans. Unionists need to empathise here and understand why a United Ireland is so important to the Irish.
It's nothing to do with being British. The Roman Empire never actually fell. Vatican City, The City of London and Washington DC. The triangle of so called power. It's when societies are purposely brainwashed by their beliefs in order to cause hatred amongst the layman who are essentially ignorant. Pit one ignorant man against another whilst all along the individuals at the high table reap the rewards of control. Let them persecute eachother in the Name of something. We sit at the top of the triangle and watch them burn and destroy eachother. What Evil is this 🙏
Second generation Irish here. Very Patriotic. Born and raised in London and identifies as Irish, not British. During my career (I'm 63), I have worked with many former British servicemen, many of whom I would call friends. I have met several Ulster protestants also, and I found them to be very nice people. My car broke down on a bitterly cold, snowy late afternoon about twenty years ago. A car pulled over and three soldiers in BDUs emerged from the car to offer help. They were wearing burgundy berets with the paratroop insignia (they were enroute to barracks, bound for Afghanistan). Noticing the Tricolour on my back window, we struck up a conversation (I'm generally apoliticel) and I found these fellows to really nice, decent human beings, interested to hear my story and then they helped me on my way, for which I was extremely grateful. I've often thought that I would have liked to have 'done my bit' for Irish independence, had I been around in 1916. However, now is now and surely the focus should be on trying to understand those who's political, religious and cultural views are different from our own. The grey area is far bigger than the white and black area I think.
Born and raised in London means you are English, not Irish. You may have Irish family and Irish roots, but you are English. I have family born and raised in England and Scotland - none of them are Irish, some would call them Plastic Paddy’s but definitely not Irish. Ulster Protestants - do you mean Protestants from Northern Ireland? Ulster is not Northern Ireland and Northern Ireland is not Ulster, never was and never will be. Any Irish man would know that simple fact. In the 1970’s in Derry, I don’t think the Para’s were so accommodating when it came to assisting the local community. One of those Para’s (soldier F) is currently going through the Court for murdering two innocent people and attempting to murder five others.
Funny that the same people you met at the bonfire that night are the same people who are burning the shops of 'immigrants' 200 metres from that bonfire weeks later. Immigrants who live in that area.
I live in Belfast and I can tell you that sectarianism still exists with the youth and there is still a low intensity conflict in Derry, but with the majority of adults especially those born before and after the Good Friday Agreement are open minded and pretty sane as they don't want the return of the Troubles. If you go to other Loyalist Bonfires across Northern Ireland such as the tallest bonfire in Larne you would notice a vast majority don't burn the Irish tricolour or the images of the leaders of Sinn Fein as more than anything they see it as a community event where everyone is welcome. It is only a small minority in towns, villages and in some areas in a city where you would see that level of sectarianism, especially if the area is a controlled by ethnic paramilitaries.
Take note of the attitude of the young Catholics vs the young Loyalists. Tells you all you need to know. An IQ test might be interesting too. The Loyalists always score highly on the bigotry scale. They say no to everything.
I'm from the South but it's precisely this kind of disdain and contempt rather than an attempt to understand that will continue to alienate a considerable minority of Loyalists
davidspense I left in '80. I've lived and worked in 9 countries, and visited 34. I went back in '99 and left again after 1 year. I love the people and place; it's home, but the nonsense is still there when you scratch the surface. Anyway, greetings from a tropical beach in South East Asia.
Depressing listening to the unionist protestant kids and it's not their fault, they have been let down by their own. Catholic nationalist side outperform them in education results and it's very evident to see here.
The opinion of people he is interviewing here are an absolute minority on both sides. My wife and I have walked up and down the Falls and the Shankill Roads. Persons saying hello, how are you, with a smile. No idea as to who we are or where we’re from or what religion. They just want to get on with their lives like the rest of the world. Ignorance and religion have caused more strife, hardship, pain, bitterness and sorrow than anything else. Greed and envy are two terrible inflictions. Something to think about eh!
They are not Scottish though. They are 'Brit Nats' . They may have Scottish sounding / Glaswegian accents, however they are against Scottish Independence (and against a United Ireland) . Anyone in Scotland whom wants Scotland to remain chained to the corrupt UK/ Westminster system, is a 'Brit Nat' . The majority of people in Scotland now want independence (especailly the vast majority of our younger generations) and they are called 'Scots' (and that includes hundreds of thousands of people whom have come and made Scotland their home..they are classed as 'New Scots' no matter what their accent souns like)
@@Oduibh100 what was misunderstood was that there are actually a bunch of Scottish guys later on in the video but for the majority of people in the video, Northern Irish people, that is who they are. They do not inherit Scottish culture or the nationality so they are not Scottish. Saying someone is Scottish because their ancestors could have been Scottish is the same as saying most Americans are Irish because a lot of them fled to the USA during the potato famine, yet everyone denies them when they try to claim they’re Irish due to 0.2% Irish ancestry or whatever… Americans are not Irish, Black Americans are not African, so why would Northern Irish unionists be Scottish?? When you look even further back, everyone came from Africa, so does that mean we’re all African?? It’s a stupid argument
What's this? I'm from the Netherlands, and go to Ireland and Northern Ireland at least 3 times every year as I've got many friends there. Last october (2024) I was in Belfast visiting one of them. Sure underneath there is still a "us or them" or "north or south". Or "West vs East". But in general: most of the people I met in Belfast rather want to move on and are not stuck in the past. Think it's a bit bias this "documentary". At least do some research before you go there, because some of the questions were unbelievable. I thought I was naïef, but this came across as provocation. I hope that you were not deliberately trying to stirr things up again to prove your unknown point.

Scoti was Roman meaning Irish gaels who originally went. Highlands were cleared by brits no surprise. The orange loyalists are a different genetic group from lowland Scotland. Planters. Not the same. They should return to Scotland and the Irish in Scotland should return to Ireland. Simple
YT deleted my comments but anyway. I looked that up. Site in Clare predates it now even. Book of invasions also etc. Point being. Before the arrival of Scottish Planters (sent here to replace us, similar to the west today) anyway, before then ireland was settled and made up of gaels. Celts etc. catholics. For a very long time. They inhabited the island. Then Scottish lowland Protestants we’re sent to replace them. If you can see Scotland why is it so crazy to consider moving all the Scots back there and we can move all the Irish in Scotland back here simple. NI is not working. We’ll get over the fact the brits tried to eradicate us. Let’s do the swap and move on. Then sort the other demographics of Europa. Cheers
You should do a few more in Ireland, I found the last couple were by far the most interesting. The fact that you get involved with the people (to one extent or another) makes these much more interesting.
@@HavingaSHOCKER The migrant crisis in pretty prime material, maybe get deeper into that and stuff related to it, the differences in how communities relate to people they don't know--communities that they do. If you go far enough back, we were all Irish in Ireland, and initially Protestant and Catholic fought together to resist English colonization and get them out. England managed to divide and conquer us however by bringing Protestants on to their side, and their way of thinking (including the later Plantation of Ulster) and that is what still echoes today. You do see a marked difference in this video between Catholic and Protestants though, where Protestants are still filled full of hatred and appear to want the dark days of the past to continue, because while both sides have often been living in ghettoised and impoverished areas (historically one blaming the other for that when it was England who was actually to blame) the Catholic side seemingly now just wants peace and reconciliation (even their young teenagers said they wanted this) so it's a crying shame that on the Protestant side, horrible adults are clearly still feeding their young people the filth of what went on before they were even born.
The Irish agenda is seen by loyalists as a thing of the past, the idea of a united ireland deprives Protestant loyalists as what they see as their country (Northern Ireland) and who they are as Northern Irish people. Being classed as Irish is an insult, the hatred is only there because strongly opinionated nationalists want to take it away from them; a war over territory, nationality, and cultural dominance. And with most of the world only seeing a vague narrative of the situation, the automatically think Irish which fuels more anger out of loyalists because they feel their identity is being ignored.
@@JMBProWhy do loyalists stay in Ireland if they don’t see themselves as Irish? No one’s stopping them, they have the lowest IQs of all and resist any social progress. Unionists aren’t entirely stupid but loyalists…

Since the Good Friday agreement the Catholics have excel at going to college taking advantage of their equal rights since the agreement passed. 26 years on Protestants are still just trying to hold onto what was and not what is. I understand there’s been damage on both sides, but when you listen to the young people particularly on the loyalist side, it’s depressing all they keep saying it’s their culture. It’s their culture. What is their culture bonfires and Violence? Most British people I know they want to let go of the six counties. The loyalist in Northern Ireland represent a Uk that doesn’t exist anymore if it ever did in that capacity.
I'm a Protestant myself Born and bred in Belfast and I have too agree with you, many of these young lads end up in the clutch£s of Paramilitary organisations that teach them to hate the other side, or they see how the adults conduct themselves and follow that example of hatred for another flag or religion...the average person doesn't wanna live in fear or in division I work along side catholics, Protestants atheists every kind of person it's only when you get too the controlled areas that all this division seems to matter fs. 🤕
These young lads are saying things out of bravado that could see them in front of a judge for threatening violence against “ Taigs”, Catholics . The sentences being handed down for hate crimes are substantial, 2 to 3 years . As a Catholic I obviously don’t agree with their sentiments but would warn them not to jeopardize their freedom by making online threats , it’s not worth it.
They have no future. That reality's all around them. Just waiting for some moneyed hate stirrer to come along as in the bad old days, and make use of them to get himself even richer.

Stop trying to push the outdated narative of sectarianism. It doesn’t speak for the majority of the youth in Belfast today. Also putting kids under pressure around that time of the year infront of a camera is embarrassing journalism. Worry about your own country and stop trying to paint a rotten picture of ours. Utter lies.
South Belfast yes, but it's mostly m/c. West and East there's a lot of positive mixing too, but the sink estates (especially in loyalist areas) remain no future identity silos if you're poor. North Belfast is still sadly full of hate. The City Centre, which could be a vibrant melting pot for everyone if money was spent on it, is largely a desolation.
I agree 1005 with that young kid at 16.00. If they were born in a different place they'd live completely different lives. Both of those young lads actually come across as nice lads who are stuck in a deprived area which is already ruining their lives.
Bru, you interviewed underage kids without parental permission on a volatile polical legal issues. Your documentary still is unethical as some of the underage kids told you, you are not permitted to publish, still you did. All commentary of kids must be kit!
There was only one or 2 kids bro, you think they’re kids because they seem to have all the time in the world for doing stupid stuff, most of the loyalists are in their 20s on drugs and unemployed, probably dropped outbif school at 15 living in benefits and still they go to anti migrant riots
Glad someone realised it. Crazy how much danger he’s just put these children even after they politely let him ask questions and asked him to not put parts in.

I'm English, my nan was Irish. Almost everyone in England has Irish heritage of some kind. Deep down, we are all the same people. The division is crazy. I never even knew about the peace walls! I mean, who really benefitted from the troubles? Was it the normal working man in the streets in England or Ireland? No, it wasn't. Follow the money.
Why or how would the troubles benefit Ireland? The troubles was a Civil War in a region of the United Kingdom. The troubles was Northern Ireland, not Ireland. But Ireland and Irish citizens were affected by the troubles. Loyalist murder gangs crossed the border and planted bombs. In 1974 British soldiers, both serving and retired, drove car bombs into Monaghan and Dublin murdering 34 innocent men, women and children and injuring and maiming almost 300 more. If you want to know who benefitted from the troubles, then you should be asking someone in the British Security Agencies. They controlled the conflict. They decided who lived and who died. They protected murderers from prosecution - republicans, loyalists and British State forces.

Unionists also need to understand the feelings of Republicans. The British have abused the Irish people for financial and political gain for hundreds of years, including things like mass murder.
Im british and i really dont no why British establishment has still kept northern Ireland right now the the british establishment should work on the ground and make sure Ireland is one its really really tough to take care of a full union we need to give others space to decide there own fate
Maybe it’s a discussion in the future but once majority are happy
Us english shudnt be giving our money to terrorist state of Ireland or the bum country call Scotland.
Do you not understand that Making the island of Ireland one country will cause war? Northern Irish unionists see Northern Ireland as a separate country to Ireland, they feel threatened by anyone trying to make them Irish. It’s like hitting a beehive and not expecting to get stung… if someone were to make England and Scotland 1 country and change your culture, national identity and way of life to suit the other country, you wouldn’t be very happy about that would you??
@@JMBProThey are Irish though… they were born in Ireland and are Irish. If they don’t want to be they can move to England. Or Scotland.
England and Scotland are one country and that DID happen. Many many massacres against Scottish people, usually catholics, happened.
Irish people weren’t too happy when Scottish and British settlers came in, murdered thousands of people, burned their villages to the ground, forced them into working for them, starved a quarter of them to death, and then those same settlers collaborated with the British state to blow them up, including in conducting terrorist attacks on the Republic (Dublin and Monaghan bombings were done in collaboration between the UVF and British government… an act of war.
@@socire72 “England and Scotland are one country”?? 👀 I don’t think they would agree with you on that tbh
Yes I’ve heard it many times before, bad shit happened in history; there’s nothing we can do about the past it happened but we’re moving on. The Irish are happy with their independent country, and us Northern Irish have the right to move on too without assholes feeling the need to blame us on someone else’s actions in order to dictate who we are. We are Northern Irish and are happy the way we are, we do not need to get stereotyped by foreign ignorance seeing us as Irish people when we’re not. We do not need hate from nationalists for something greedy English pricks did hundreds of years ago. We wanna live the way we are in peace so if you don’t like that then leave, go live in the Republic of Ireland or in Britain. If you have a problem with history, blame the English not the modern natives.
I’ve been called all sorts, from English people - “pikey, inbred potato picker, told I’m not speaking English due to my accent”.
From Nationalists - “hun, Brit, invader, coloniser”.
Don’t wanna be associated with either of them.
Both are rude ignorant cunts, don’t want anything to do with people calling me names due to bullshit that happened in history. Catholics are no longer second class citizens, so catholics nationalists have no right to play the victim anymore. And their mistreatment has no authority over my nationality.
The people in this video are Northern Irish citizens. They grew up disassociated with anything Irish, and if they’re happy the way they are that’s their choice; no one has a right to change them or how they live.

3:09 - He means civil war, not world war lol
8:48 - Rubber bullets were shot at both communities in Northern Ireland, they weren't used on one specific community.
22:57 - There are a lot of people (myself and my family included) who are friends with people on the other side, my niece is married with kids to a catholic, and at bonfires and stuff you're going to get more of the "I will never be friends/hate those people" type of people, but if/when a lot of those younger ones start working, they'll end up working alongside Catholics/protestants and in most cases, they become friends, at least that's my experience and the experience of a few people I know.
Its all kids. the divide doesnt work well for functioning people when they are older.
You seem a reasonable Protestant loyalist. I’d like to ask you. Would you think it fair for the loyalist Protestants there to return to Scotland and for the Irish in Scotland to return to Ireland. Seems a simple solution.

I’m a catholic and I’m not stupid enough to read into any of this nonsense. The young people of Belfast today from all communities are in integrated schools, clubs together and work together. Utter lies.
It’s just sad so much hate mainly on the Protestant side from what I’ve seen. Yeah of course hate on both sides but time changes

They protected murderers from prosecution - republicans, loyalists and British State forces.
the anger is so sad life is to short for all that live and let live
