This make so much sense! Retinols & hydroquinone are too harsh on my skin and cause more damage. But I’ve been using a kojic acid cleanser + arbutin + tranexamic acid which is much more gentle and effective.
My face popped an age spot at 33. I didn’t know how to treat it. By luck, I found a new foundation- the Missha Perfect Cover. It faded the spot and kept it faded for years. Any time I’d switch products, the spot would come back up. Turns out it’s packed with arbutin!
I decided to break up with all my lotions, potions, and creams! With the $$$ I saved, I had a laser procedure at my derm's office. When my face finished peeling, it had gotten rid of my dark spots. One week down time. Cost about $1200.
@SS-dd7ck The dual fraxel laser uses two lasers, the 1927 and the 1550. It targets two kinds of dark spots: brown age spots and the red scaly spots known as Actinic Keratosis. Dual fraxel is expensive but it actually works! My skin has not been this clear since I was 30.

I love your content on many platforms and I truly appreciate your no-nonsense approach to the simplicity of ingredients vs. luxury brands.
Hello Dr Dray! Thank you for covering products over a wide variety, even the lesser-known ones such as Volufiline. You're videos have really helped me clear my skin, and I owe it mostly to you and a bit of my own research :) I don't live in the best area so dermatologists out here are not that great, but you giving us all this information for free is such a blessing and I really appreciate it!
I recently saw a skin care ‘mistakes’ video by Andreea Ali and a skin care expert. I would be interested in your viewpoint of this expert’s recommendations, particularly with respect to moisturizing. Love your material Dr Dray - I watch every day!
She's a very professional person on TH-cam, too... Reacting to other people's videos is not her type of content... That would also create unnecessary drama or rivalry (things i imagine she doesn't like)
She does have a couple of videos where she opines on a topic/video which has gotten buzz and people have asked questions…like the Tretinoin situation….and she rocked it‼️✅😉
I just found it interesting that one of the top skin care mistakes that Dr. Arampatzis identified was over-moisturizing. He also said it causes your body to produce less moisture on its own… Is that really a thing?
Im fairly sure at this point, my spots wont fade without dermatological intervention. BUT, I'm very happy I use Alpha Arbutin and a good Vit C serum under spf, and I'm in a good place with my skintone. No new spots, and I'm quite outdoorsy, so that's a huge win! And i stopped the hyperpigmentation process in time on my hands so there are spots but only very faintly in one little area. I also use my serums on my hands and carry spf 50 instead of hand lotion all year (that dollar tree sun basics spf is fantastic, i bought a year's worth last summer, and you def do sun protection differently when it's that affordable, also is a delightful formula). Random reapplication, whenever i think of it, on the hands seems to work pretty well.
Why the serum is so green? Arbutin is in powder form and is odorless and colorless. I liked your description on arbutin comparison to hydroquinone. Great explanation. Arbutin for most people is non-irritating. It’s better to be included in anti-aging cream along with other active ingredients and used at night. Hydroquinone is a famous ingredient as Michael Jackson also used. And both of them have been around for decades. Certain herbs like heath is high in arbutin and it can be derived naturally.

I read an article about microneedling and using hydroquinone with tretinoin after for 30 days to reduce melasma. Do you know anything about that Combination? Would you recommend it?

@@Nizmanufaail If you don’t use sunscreen WITHOUT FAIL nothing will be effective. In fact, with lightening products, such as AA and kojic acid, they can make the skin more sensitive to the sun and cause inflammation which leads to irritation which leads to pigmentation! If you don’t use sunscreen routinely you are just wasting your money on those other products. Best thing you can do for your skin is to wear sunscreen daily and reapply every 2 hours.
Yes, everyone talks about the epidermis which I have memorized (hq, alpha arbutin, kojic acid, liqorice root, tret+azelaic combo, vitamin c, tranexamic acid). No one seems to offer any solutions for dermal pigmentation 😭
I’m trying to find a skincare routine I can use during laser hair removal. I’m going to stop about adapalene/exfoliants about a week beforehand, but I’m wondering if things like HA, niacinamide are okay? What about azelaic acid?
Dr dray, can you make a video about do we really need expensive face creams etc? I understand from your videos no, and I’ve found a lot of great face creams for a fraction of what I use to pay, BUT, I haven’t been able to find a serum like the Estée Lauder perfectionist, would you talk about those ingredients? What are they and how can I imitate for a fraction of the price? the bottle is super expensive, they have multiple lines there’s one with vitamin C I believe and one perfectionist spot corrector? The thing, my face is sooooo so soft with it and it really did help to get rid of some sun damage!! 😊
I think if you've found a luxury product that works for you and cannot find a dupe it's ok to splurge. Imo it's not really splurging because nothing can recreate the feeling in your skin
I've tried this and many others that didn't seem to help my upper lip malesma 😔 my dermatologist said there's nothing else I can do outside office treatment
I hate everything mixed with HA. The Ordinary's Alpha Arbutin + HA.... I swear it clogs me up. Im breaking out after 3 days using it, and the solo HA serum did it too. Now I have more marks to try fade once these go away. Ive never had clear skin cuz this always happens... Im 40.
sadly I found I couldn’t use the Maelove product in the morning after exfoliating, it just burned my skin too badly, I ended giving that product away. 🤷🏽♀️
I’ve been using The Ordinary Alpha-Arbutin for over 6 months & sadly haven’t noticed a difference in my skin. I’m going to keep using it because it took a year before I saw a difference after starting prescription tretinoin. Good luck! 😊
@LindaKayHolevas oh that's sad but I guess I will have to try im still waitting for my order hyperpigmentation is so hard I have been trying for years im also on tretinoine for 3 years now vit c glycolic acid lactic acid name it niacinamide ouff I have a lot but nothing works😢
@@nathaliegignac2681 It’s about the same for me. I honestly think that salicylic acid has worked the best for me. Also, Kojic acid has also helped, but I also have tried everything and the best that I can do is lighten it, but I’ve never fully gotten rid of it. Thankfully, I only have one noticeable spot on the lower side of my right cheek. The only thing I haven’t tried is hydroquinone. I really don’t want to invest any more money into products that don’t work.

Is there any treatment for dermal pigmentation ? So depressing to know that I have this type of hyperpigmentation.
Yes, everyone talks about the epidermis which I have memorized (hq, alpha arbutin, kojic acid, liqorice root, tret+azelaic combo, vitamin c, tranexamic acid). No one seems to offer any solutions for dermal pigmentation 😭
Same. It's so depressing. Especially for me because my hyperpigmentation is from eczema which is basically unfixable
If you guys find any answers for this plz link it here
Do the things for the face work on the body? Home again home again...💜💜💜
they can
Thanks Dr Dray
I’m trying to find a skincare routine I can use during laser hair removal. I’m going to stop about adapalene/exfoliants about a week beforehand, but I’m wondering if things like HA, niacinamide are okay? What about azelaic acid?
Does it permanently remove hyperpigmentation?
I have horrible upper lip pigmentation as well due to eczema
Can we use Arbutin before retinol?!
Beautiful Tree
Hi Dr! Is alpha arbutin at 7% safe for tropical use? i am planning to apply it to my back as i have serious PIH from back acne.
Can alpha arbutin be used with retinol?
Should I stay away from this products if I have vitiligo? I want to regain color not remove it …
I hate everything mixed with HA. The Ordinary's Alpha Arbutin + HA.... I swear it clogs me up. Im breaking out after 3 days using it, and the solo HA serum did it too.
Now I have more marks to try fade once these go away. Ive never had clear skin cuz this always happens... Im 40.
Just check the ingredients before purchasing?
Iv still got a small round red mark from a spot i had on my higher cheek 5 years ago, been on adapoline for 2.5 years and its still not faded :( :(
it may
Hello Dr please tell me is obagi blender fx effective?
Dr. Dray, What are your thoughts on BBL for fair-skinned women in their 60s?
What product would you recommend from uk? X
Can laser Tx. clear hyperpigmentation?
sadly I found I couldn’t use the Maelove product in the morning after exfoliating, it just burned my skin too badly, I ended giving that product away. 🤷🏽♀️
Did you try it without exfoliation?
I love you dr dray ❤❤❤❤❤
"Your Epidermis is showing" LOL sorry this was from childhood hehe
I just order last week the ordinary arbutin 2% will see people say it's good will see❤
I’ve been using The Ordinary Alpha-Arbutin for over 6 months & sadly haven’t noticed a difference in my skin.

Brutal.
Try exfoliating before applying.
maybe even very minor microneedling
@@maalikserebryakov I have tried both. I actually just started using organic castor oil (2 weeks ago) & I’m already seeing a difference in my hyperpigmentation. It is starting to lighten up a little bit. Now this has me excited 😊
Hi, Dr. Dray I watched your youtube channel about melasma and skin problems on the face.. like my face I also want my face to be smooth but I can't afford to buy or get checked by a Dermatologist .. I hope you can help me about my face..
She has many videos on many conditions
Can arbutin be used on underarms? I saw an underarm cream that has arbutin, licorice root and niacinamide
Yes it is very effective i used a lotion that contains alpha arbutin and glutathione and other lightening ingredients on my underarms and it was very effective just like magic!
Hi what about nitro freeze😊
