Penn Plax Cascade 1000 Cannister Filter Unboxing and Real Review

Today on Real Reviews, we are going to be unboxing, setting up and reviewing the Penn Plax Cascade 1000 Cannister filter to replace my long-time Marineland Magnum 350. There were a couple of features that made me want this particular filter vs the Fluval 207 or other similar filters. Firstly, I really like the output want that dispenses the water evenly across the back of the tank vs one strong flow in a single spot. This really worked out well for me as it does not cause so much disturbance in the tank. Secondly, the input wand is extendable without the need to add pieces to it. You just put on the protector on the end and pull it out as long as you need. Lastly, the basket is clear blue vs solid black as many of the others, allowing you to see when your filter is getting dirty. Then, just like most of the others, it also has the quick disconnect to make cleaning a breeze.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised and happy with this filter choice. It has the features I wanted plus it is nice and quiet. I say go get one and give this filter 2 thumbs up.

be careful, the plastic on the hose barb on the outlet brakes very easy.

Thank you for the info. I will be sure to be extra careful. I just cleaned the filter for the 1st time since installation, and it was very easy. The filter was actually still clean, but I changed everything out anyway.

I own one of these. Not recommended. After a year, it starts to leak.
