Rays of the Absolute (the Legacy of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj)

  • In 2006 Stephen Wolinsky proposed the idea of traveling to India to film Nisargadatta Maharaj’s translators and disciples to explore the legacy Maharaj left behind in his hometown, Mumbai.
    In 2007 Zaya and Maurizio Benazzo together with Stephen Wolinsky, Philip Safarik and Fred Good traveled to India to shoot this film.
    The meeting with the old devotees was both illuminating as well as deeply touching.
    Over the next seven and a half years, we all plugged away, going through mounds of material allowing this project to reach completion.
    The film you are about to see cannot demonstrate the amount of work that went into this project….but let’s simply say that finally it is complete…
    Nisargadatta did not leave an ashram; he did not leave any teachings nor successors. This movie is a homage to him; a look at his unintended legacy from people that have been inspired by him more then words can express.
    This film contains interviews with four of the old Nisargadatta's translators: Ramesh Balsekar, S.K. Mullarpattan, Mohan and Jayashri Gaitonde,plus some old indian devotees and trustees, the publishers of "I Am That" and a visit to the old room in which Maharaj was holding his meetings, his Guru Samadhi Shrine and the place in which some of Maharaj ashes are preserved.
    In the footage are also presented exclusive photographs of Maharaji's cremation ceremony.

    Believe me brothers & sisters, there are people like Maharaj still here! They're just so hard to find amongst the charlatan wolves that most get deceived & never find! "I Am That" is excellent for daily guna-play survival but recommend "Self-Love: The Original Dream" for ultimate sadhana & introduction to your/THE Satguru! Thank you Maharaj! The flame will never be snuffed out!!!

    “The space depends on maharaj and not maharaj on the space”
    This is fascinating!! This implies that the universe exists in consciousness and cannot exist without consciousness.

    • @prof.manjeetsinghjcboseust9034
      @prof.manjeetsinghjcboseust9034 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      This implies Absolute exists without consciousness but the universe (or consciousness ) requires Absolute as its base. But this distinction is only for the purpose of analysis, in fact there is no distinction. The unmanifested consciousness is Absolute and Manifested Absolute is consciousness.

    The first thing that struck me about Nisargadatta is that, unlike many "gurus", he didn't conflate speaking awkwardly slow with profundity. Taking ten minutes to utter a paragraph doesn't add value to anything you're saying. It just means you don't have to come up with as much to say.

    Thank you Stephen. My guru (the absolute) speaks to me through technology. Which maybe in the form of youtube. An understanding has come about where words (for the sake of communication) is flowing through different humans who has lived and passed. The beauty of it all is that it flows from same source. I am happy and content. Let many many people be free through our current technology which is a carrier for conveying words of truth.

      Soul Refraction: I, too, was wondering about Maharaj's seeming ability to be so far removed from his body, I wonder if anyone knows if he could feel pain when he was dying of throat or jaw cancer. It has been told the Ramana Maharshi did not feel his body pain when he was dying of cancer. I hope same was true of Nisargadatta. Does anyone know?

    • @Tullece
      @Tullece 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Pain comes from inhabiting a body, as the body is Maya or illusion so is the pain that comes with it. We still perceive that we experience pain but without the body or mind who would perceive this pain in the first place?

    Thanks Stephen for your devotion and dedication, without which this film would not had been possible. This documentary gives us rare glimpses into Maharaj teachings. Also the profoundness of his teachings can be seen in all the Indian devotees here interviewed. Their humility comes from knowing their beingness. Yet after so many years they all roar with the self knowledge received from Maharaj as if he spoke yesterday. By the end i am moved to tears for being born after that consciousness which came to liberate us in the physical form left us. Peace.

    Many blessings and thanks for this wonderful video. I have known for a few years now that Maharaj is my teacher. I later discovered both my parents were born on Sept 8, the day of his death; then that my mother and grandparents fled India after Gandhi was killed via Bombay in 1948.
