  • Ford inspired Jaguar X type is it an enthusiast car or is it just something that is a little bit of a laugh within the Jaguar community?

    The two X Types early on at Gaydon belong to me (Silver Saloon with reg BT54)
    And my good friend Michelle (Green Estate with Reg BL54): they were entry-level Jaguars for us both and we both have XKRs -hers is a convertible 420L and mine a coupé 500L (which I got after seeing her XKR in action!).

    I bought an X type estate was a great car only sold it because it was a diesel manual as Jaguar didn’t do a diesel auto at the time

      Jaguar we’re late bringing out the auto diesel version and missed out on more sales of this car

    If you want to see more iconic brands then why not pop down to the Avro Hertige Museum 18th August whereby the JEC Gt Manchester region will be hosting a show. On permanent display there is the iconic Vulcan bomber. Admission £2 per car museum is additional. I will have my X type on display on the day together with scores of other Jaguar cars both past & present.

    When I was 18yo (in 2002), the x-type was the very first Jag I drove (it was a 2.5 petrol). I really liked it, it was the very best car I got on at such time... It felt to me like a nice quality thing. Now I have an XKR x150 Convertible and an XJR x356... And I still like the X-types. I wouldn't mind to have one as a daily driver. Sometimes I think to give one to my wife as present, she loves them because she thinks the XKR and the XJR are too big for her.

    The guy questioning the S Type is the legend Tom Lenthall, a specialist Jaguar mechanic. He really knows his business, worked on Harry's Garrage - Jag coupe.

    My main gripe with the X-type is the front wheel drive, and cheaper seat materials on some models. Otherwise, I see no problem with a compact Jag, similar to a Mercedes C-class or BMW 3 series.

      @IconicBrands123  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The x type featured is an all wheel drive version, drives and looks great imo. Your right about the front wheel drive aspect though on other variants which has upset some jaguar purists .

    I learned to drive in an 1984, dark blue Jaguar XJ6 Sovereigns. That was back in the 1990s, I was just 11 years old and it was on an old forest road.
    Back in 2008, after I moved to the UK, I owned a golden/bronze Jaguar XJ6 3.2 Sport for a few months - i bought that car for £150 off gumtree from a fella in Larkhall (Scotland).
    I drove the car for around 6 months and then sold it in parts - made a lot. the interior alone sold for over £300 as it was immaculate.
    If it wouldn't be for their reliability issues, I would own a Jag, however right now I'm a Lexus owner for years and love them.

    Always liked Jags since I was a Kid, as my stepfather had a Mk2 (talking late 60's early 70's here!)....My job allowed me to drive an XJ6 Sovereign and numerous XF's, as well as some expensive German cars (but less said about that the better!)...For my 50th birthday I bought a 3.0 AWD X-Type salooon, (same colour as yours) probably just so I can say I've owned a Jag!....And while some of the build quality wasn't the best I loved it, and they are so much more than a Mondeo in a posh frock! 👍👍With hind sight I should have kept it but needed a car for my two dogs + family....A friend once let me drive his convertible XK-8 4.2 Supercharged, and while it was good I'd prefer an XJ to waft about in!

    I unfortunately own an x type, piece of crap, I also own an old but very nice X300 (XJ6) the x type is a Mondeo in disguise, IMO it’s not a proper Jag, far from it, my first Jag was an early mk2, bit ratty but ran well, then a few S2 XJ6’s and an S2 Daimler Double Six, I didn’t much like the S3’s and the XJ40’s even less, nothing but trouble and rusted badly, I’ve had my X300 since 1997 and still have it, the X type is pile of crap, I cannot refer to it as a Jag, it’s a wannabe Jag. Too slow and horrid front wheel drive, couldn’t get out of its own way. Next time it goes wrong I’m scrapping it.

      You’re entitled to your own opinions, rust is a major problem of course hopefully you got plenty of miles out of your x type nevertheless
