The HARDEST Hike in the Peak District

  • Do you like hiking in the peak district? We found the hardest hike in the peak district and decided to do a hiking vlog. We started hiking in the peaks from Edale towards the Kinder Scout Summit. After a difficult start we reached the Summit Kinder Scout.
This is Peak District Hiking at it's very best and is the most difficult hiking in the peak district.
Previously I've found uk hiking in the peaks easy. This route changed that. I will certainly return for more walking in the peak district.
The kinder scout hiking route we used for our gps was floored. This is because the gpx file we downloaded was badly put together.
Buy your Peak District OS maps here on Amazon Prime for £6.99 amzn.to/3su3cVJ
In total, after getting lost, we hiked just over 11 miles and 2200 ft of elevation with a walking time of just under 4 hours with an average of 2.8 mph walking speed. Full details here / strava
Kinder Scout Hiking is certainly more challenging that I was expecting. The fairly flat top is actually quite difficult to navigate and walking on the peat takes quite a lot of energy up.
Without a doubt this is the best Peak District Walking I have ever done. I love hiking in the uk, usually hiking in the lake district and hiking in snowdonia but this felt just as good.
Most people seem to go up Jacobs Ladder from Edale and then onto Edale Rocks. This is much easier and I'm glad we reversed the route to make it more challenging.
My friend Matt from @mattanthonyphotography on instagram took some absolutely amazing photos. Please head over to instagram to see his photos / mattanthonyphotography
I used my Soto Windmaster Stove and Soto Thermostack Cook Set Combo to cook lunch. I also tested out my new Inov-8 Roclite 345 GTX hiking boots. Have a look at my other videos for reviews on these pieces of backpacking gear.
I would really like to know what you think of my first peak district hiking video. Please let me know in the comment below. In you are into your hiking in the uk please SUBSCRIBE as there is plenty more hiking uk to be done. If you like difficult hikes in the uk then definitely follows us for more hiking videos because that's what we love doing.

Grew up doing tha route since being 6 years old, my dad was an outdoors man and regularly would be doing 40 mile hikes.(and po holing/climbing)..my little legs racing trying o keep up 😆...was very quiet up there back then, only hardened walkers. Our boots were made of leather, were very heavy and waterproofed with Dubbin ...great for building muscle though 😄

We used to walk in the Peak District years ago. Camping in Edale we did this walk several times, its one I often think of. So many thanks for bringing back so many lovely memories.

hi Andy, just stumbled across your channel and am loving it!
the route in this video is a good one, but there is even better stuff in the peaks. By the looks of things, you went up grindsbrook Clough, but imo the Clough just west of that, Crowden Clough, is a lot more fun, a bit like the short scramble at the top of grindsbrook but a bit harder and it's like that all the way up.
A bit further north is wildboar Clough which comes from torside reservoir up onto the north side of bleaklow and I cannot recommend it enough, it's the absolute best the peaks has to offer, there's a few semi technical moves involved and I think is rated a grade 2 scramble but anyone who is fit and has a bit of confidence could deffinetely do it, honestly can't rave about it enough. I've done it in a few different weather conditions so if you do ever do it (and I really recommend, have I made that point yet?!) try to do it after at least a week of no rain, because otherwise the rock is very greasy and it becomes a bit annoying. I recently did it really early one morning after it had been -8°C overnight and all of the waterfalls were frozen over which was just stunning
also, for a bit of practise navigating in areas like kinder scout, I've found walking from hoar Clough head (OS 145985) west to where the 'path' meets the pennine way (OS 092959) to be fantastic practice, it's slightly less boggy than kinder scout and is slightly less monotonous

Thanks so much for the info, I'll definitely check it out. I mainly hike in Snowdonia and the Lakes. The Peaks is much closer to me so I really need to start exploring more up there.

This is a great route. Certainly gets the heart pumping as one comment has said. I am in my 70s and did that about 18 months ago. If you take it slow-ly and steadily it is doable for almost anyone with normal hiking experience. But definitely not for everyone. Not easy at all, but not the hardest I have done, but very enjoyable.
One tip; I would use a lavalier microphone with muffler to combat wind noise on your videos.

Fantastic route. I done the same one on all trails instead of getting lost on the plateau I followed the edge round to kinder downfall. And you’re right That decent down penine way and jacobs ladder is a tough one.

I live on the edge of Sheffield, about 20 miles away and like doing a 9 mile jog/walk route from Edale along the front edge and back down Jacobs ladder. You can also go right round to MamTor. Like the vids. Cheers. (Also spend loads of the time in the lakes - wild camped on Hart Crag last weekend... Beautiful weather.). Graham, Sheffield

Nice video that pal. What did you think go the Firepot meals? Not my favorite if I'm honest.
There's a 22 mile Marsden to Edale route through the peaks over Bleaklow. That's a tough one

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The 22 mile hike sounds brutal! To be honest, I'm not a massive fan of any of the dehydrated meals, I prefer to cook proper food when I'm out. However, Firepot meals aren't bad when you're looking for something light, quick and easy.

I love this hike up to kinder scout, done it many times. But even as somebody who is not the most physically fit, i wouldn't class this a 5 out of 5 difficulty level ...
I have been Snowdon, that is more difficult than the peak District (even kinder scout)
Dont mean to sound horrible to anybody that might actually find this difficult, i just wouldn't class this as a 5/5 personally.
This has given me motivation to get back out there though 👍👍

The Peaks have nothing on Snowdonia or the Lake District but this is definitely one of the harder walks on the Peaks.
