IS KINDER SCOUT EASY? | Hiking in the Peak District | Kinder Scout & Jacobs Ladder

- Is Kinder Scout easy? That’s is what I was thinking when we decided to go hiking in the Peak District for bank holiday Monday. We had chosen a route that went up Grindsbrook Clough, across to Kinder scout and down Jacobs Ladder.
After going Hiking in the Lake District a few days before and climbing Blencathra ... I was worried I might struggle slightly with the climb as I had done then, but it was a bit easier this time round.
We still had to stop a few times on the way up from Edale, to the top of Grindsbrook Clough, especially on the last section that ended up being a bit of a scramble! But it was an amazing walk in the Peak District with some stunning views!!
We took our time walking along the ridge to go on the hunt for the true summit of Kinder Scout which stands 636 metres above sea level, 3 metres higher than the trig point at Kinder Low, so of course.... we had to visit both!
Then came the long descent down Jacobs Ladder, I could see the appeal of switching the route to climb the ladder instead to reach Kinder Scout, however ... I think the route up Grindsbrook Clough was far more interesting and scenic, and coming down the ladder gave gorgeous views out over The Valley so we were happy with our choice 😄
The path leading back to Edale station and car park was very pretty and even joined with the Pennine Way towards the last section. I would love to wild camp the Pennine Way, and if I can find time anywhere this year I will add it to my ever growing list of National Trails and long distance hiking trails I hope to complete this year.
My next adventure starts Monday April 12th I will be wild camping The Cleveland way, 110 miles across the North Yorkshire moors! I’m very excited 😆
4 days after coming home from that trail I set off on a wild camping adventure on the Cumbria way in the Lake District, myself and Emma are going to attempt to complete the trail in just 4 days!!!! Can it be done?? We will soon find out lol

A pleasant trot out for you and dry, apart from the bit your mate found. When the stream is full and pouring over Kinder downfall and the wind is blowing up the valley the water blows upwards and can be seen from parts Manchester.

I've done Kinder Scout and you made it look easy :) I had to take so many breathers on the way up, my legs were shaking when I'd finished 😅
Ahh don’t get me wrong, we stopped a few times for snacks and breathers lol but compared to Blencathra a fes days earlier it wasn’t half as bad lol .... I think as the climb is right at the start so you do it fresh 🤗🤗 thanks so much for watching x

I think the energetic dancing on the top proves that it must be easy😂, having said that, I have never done it myself but keep threatening to venture down there. Great weather and superb views and I am with you on going down Jacobs Ladder and good grief, Emma even beat my wee record, I am always on the bloody trot😂. Mind you, if I ever see her on the trail, I will make sure I am always 'up wind' from her😖. Another really fun watch, cheers Alan

Kinder Scout is fab. The Peak District is fairly local to me so I’ve walked there many a time. I love all of those rock formations. Try Kinder Downfall if you’re there again. It’s only a mile or so past the Kinder Low trig point. I’m sure you’d love it. Great video 👍

Nice film of Kinder ( please note Clough is pronounced Cluff ) ! f you climb Blencathra again try it via Scales Tarn and Sharp Edge - fabulous route but avoid it in bad weather ! If the weather changes en route there is an easier path to the left of the tarn.. There are loads of vids of Sharp Edge on TH-cam . Enjoy your hikes in the future !!

Used to be my workplace! The weather can change and get really nasty, your footwear certainly would have been unsuitable had the weather turned!! 😀

I've just found your channel and subscribed. I hike in the Peak District exclusively at the moment, so much to see. The 636 isn't the true summit anymore. There is another one that is slightly higher, another pile of rocks, but 2 years ago, this was it. Did you ever go back and tag all three Trigs on Kinder Scout? I've tagged Kinder Low in March and Edale Moor Trig ( the furthest one from where you were), but still another one to go. I really enjoyed your vlog. Is there any chance of a Quid Pro Quo for a miniscule channel just starting out? Irregardless, I'll be working my way through your playlist. Thanks for sharing all those years ago.

You definitely did it the right way around. Great wild camping spot out of season too. Vey easy to mis navigate in bad weather though.

Looks like you had a great day, years ago the Pennine Way route was straight up Grindsbrook but was diverted due to erosion. Very familiar territory there great to see it 👍

Going to be honest, I much much prefer going up jacobs ladder, and down grindsbrook gnoll. the detour north to see kinder downfall and back along the river is excellent if hte weather is decent and reasonably dry.
That’s great! Next time I’m up that way I’ll have to try it that way round 😃 my bad knee isn’t so great with steps though so hope going up the ladder wouldn’t be too much

I did kinder at Christmas, up jacobs ladder completely frozen with ice, couldnt see a bloody thing, 2ft of snow. Worth it tho.

You should go up there in the,autumn when the peat bogs can suck you up to your waist, I have seen many a person when they eventually free themselves from the bog they are missing their footwear

It's an amazing place down there they have a bushcraft meet there every year I went 2 year's ago are was it 3 😂😂 some amazing people go and a great party atmosphere I have a video of it everyone I went with got dressed up in fancy dress and I was William Wallace 😂😂 what a laugh good luck with your walk looking forward to seeing how you get on atvb jimmy 😎😎👍👍

I am a wild camper and did Kinder on wednesday. Footnote, never climb Jacob's ladder with a 70lb rucksack. woolpack's is amazing, you would have passed that on your way.

@@DrunkOnWanderlust funny you should say that. Some Scottish guy said the same thing on the way however I didn’t see any official rangers and wasn’t moved on. Saw 3 other tents in the morning and all good. Bamford edge is a different story. Was tough with heavy gear. Will never complain about flat Suffolk again 😂😂

I've bikers carrying mountain bikes up Jacobs ladder unreal.
I go up kinder barefoot at least a couple times a year. It's a lot of up but easy terrain.

It's not easy but it's not extremely hard. It all depends on the individual, if you want to do it go for it :)
