The keycaps is a copy of PBTfans Ronin (KBDfans)
Seems like the code doesnt work in my country :(
got any suggestions for guys who fat finger keys sometimes, all the keyboards I've tried are to sensitive and I cant find any videos that show which key type would help reduce this.
A bit more info on the screen, and overall opinion of the board/switches would've been nice.
The screen is nice on mine, you can upload up to 2 images/gifs, or you can draw something yourself. The software to do it is pretty garbage, but if you choose a gif with a nice loop, it looks really nice.
mine came with a rattly spacebar stabilizer on the left side so its kinda yuck to press it...i put gateron yellow pros v3 and its sounds amazing
I recently bought the Aula F87 on Aliexpress for $60 and boy is it good for the price, like damn budget boards have improved a lot in the last few years.
I have the Aula F75 and it's amazing!
My F87 came this week, I'm very satisfied with it
My favorite keep right now
@@TiniKiti Yeah Aula F75 is the best ($42 from taobao I think?)
@@TiniKiti I also got the f75. Absolutely no need for mods or switches or anything, it sounds so perfect to me, my first mechanical non-gamer KB and it's a dream.
hipyo try not to clickbait with keyboard price challenge: impossible 😭😭
as always tho great vid much love
Keen to see the review of the Lucky 65. Also keen for a review of the Ajazz 820 Pro - another cheap plastic keyboard but with hot swap, knob and screen
Hipyo! Please do a review of the best keyboards with knobs and/or screens!
So. I hear you're writing a book. "Thockomancy. The Esoteric Keyboard Arts" 😁
I have some of the Outemu silent tactile limes in a nextime 75. It is my office keyboard (I'm a medical claims processor) and wanted something that wouldn't bother my coworkers. It came out super nice. I ended up using some cheap transparent acrylic keycaps which actually added a little bit of sound and chatter but it was still easily the most quiet board I've ever built and it still feels pretty good. It's more silent than my gatereon silent brown optical numbpad and that's pretty quiet itself.
again, it wasn't 40 dollars.....
The keyboard was $38 my bad 🙌
well the base technically is $40
55 USD. Not 40 dollars at all.
You guys realize that he ordered the keyboard weeks ago and the prices change?
@@HipyoTechwdym it was nearly $100!
There's a very simple solution for the difficult to remove Kilmat - just cover the board in tape first. Use a good quality tape with some stretch to it, something like 3M Clear Repair Tape.
My rainy75 is coming in in 5 days
I bought one for my wife and it arrived a week ago. You're going to love it. It genuinely lives up to the hype.
Man congratulations, it's out of stock sadly everywhere
@@ImusNoxa sweet
@@anirudhmathur5555Pantheon Keys has them instock with all variants
I've yet to get info about mine
This is terrifyingly almost identical to my build. The fact that I am using GMK87 and a PBT keycap set that looks close to the one here is funny.
Currently I'm using Akko CS Crystal which is not bad. I've been considering silent build so I bought myself an Outemu Honey Peach.
Edit:
A little more things I'd like to mention out of nowhere. It's interesting to see that the GMK87 that Hipyo bought has a slightly different set of things that was out of the box. On the barebones that I bought, it already had a poron foam and IXPE sheet in between the polycarbonate plate and PCB but it also had a plastic sheet on top of the PCB that I don't think was in Hipyo's GMK87, so I think it's okay to remove it if the plastic sheet is there. In fact I recommend removing because depending on the IXPE sheet cutout, your stabilizer stems might make extra goofy noises especially if there are air pockets under the plastic sheet right under the stems. The stabilizers are not too bad but they will almost always rattle a bit because of the bad *plate-mounting* design I guess but should be fixable with some small tape mods or just get a better stabilizer. I'm considering to buy something called an Ice Cream V2 stabilizers at my local store which I have no idea what that is and I don't see any info of it in the internet anywhere.
One interesting thing is that my GMK87 already came with a poron foam that sticks (and removable) under the PCB that is not present in Hipyo's GMK87, which he used Killmat instead for that. I personally suggest using 2 to 3 layers of masking tape instead because that would be less destructive while giving you the same effect. And then the rest like the PE sheet and silicon layer that was in the case were present so yeah other than the ones I mentioned, it's not too different. At least for silent switches, if you're looking for a good one, I highly recommend to just go with Hipyo and I bought here, the Outemu Honey Peach V2 (5-pin mount variant). Like Hipyo showed, the switches have pads on the sides of the POM stem. It has a light pre-lube amount which is not bad in my experience, I'm the type to enjoy hand-lubing and the lubing on the Honey Peach is pretty good that I didn't feel the need to lube it. The top and bottom housing are made of nylon. Overall, it's just a good silent switch for the price you'll be paying, and that is very cheap considering the average price you'll see for a silent switch.
Lastly, if you're considering to start with building a keyboard, unless you have a fixation on the casing material or the layout size (which is a tenkeyless/80%), and some other things that anchors to your personal taste, I would highly recommend starting with a GMK87 right away. I want you to take note of the price of the barebones one more time. For that price, you'll be getting an 80% keyboard that is gasket mounted, has moderate flex cuts on the PCB, a heck ton of foam and sheets for dampening, a knob (KNOB!?), a small screen that you can switch the contents between the keyboard's status monitor and two other still images or GIFs (the highest framerate it supports has a frame interval of 60ms, which gives you around 16.67 FPS or a factor of 50/3) you can set via a software, supports VIA tool, south-facing LEDs with nice lighting modes, and three connection modes including wired, 2.4GHz, and Bluetooth.
That is batshit insane.
Bro pulled a reverse TLDR and put his whole thesis in the edit section
@@XenHat I commented first after watching halfway and then another more after finishing the vid lol
@@rrinnlonginus I was wondering what VIA does? is it just keyboard hotkeys and rgb? Do I need to download separate software to modify the screen on the GMK87? Also how do the Gazzew Bobagum switches compare to those listed in the video?
@@FlawlessMind-lb3tw VIA is software for configuring various settings in a keyboard, and it's compatible with QMK keyboards too. It's also designed so that whatever settings you applied are permanently saved in the keyboard.
The range of customizations depends on the keyboard itself, but normally you'll be able to customize lighting and changing inputs per key. It's very versatile, and is why keyboards that are VIA-compatible are very much sought for by enthusiasts.
Nice incredibly strong rock climber fingers, Hipyo what else do you do with those incredibly strong rock climber fingers?
just ordered the parts. i love the colour of the caps. thx for the vid
The sound deadening is pretty safe if you never need to remove it as it’s impossible to remove without leaving a bunch of the butyl behind. Being butyl rubber for the aluminum backing you don’t have to worry about shorting anything.
Thanks for including my fav switches ever! Peach Silent V2's are so money
I would put first blue tape then on it the killmat for safety reasons.
YESSS THANK YOU IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
Nice, incredibly strong rock climber fingers Hipyo.
9:08 You're a legend for using this clip
Try Attack Shark k86. Is basically this but pre built for less than 50 usd.
that's pretty quiet, I wonder how long the 'gel' would last
Yeah, that keycap set is definitely a clone. I mean, some shops literally even call it GMK Rome Clone. And they're a clone of KBDfans' PGA Sparta keycaps from 2021.
Ah heck
Personally I don't care. I prefer PBT double shot over ABS, and the quality of the clones on Ali have ALWAYS been pretty awesome from my experience. They all eventually shine and I'm not big on spending $150 to then have them turn shiny anyway.
@@JustSomeGuy009 Same. I've been using clones from Akko for a long time, and I love them.
Well the clones are better anyway, because only an idiot would name a set with "SPQR" written on it, "Sparta", and not "Rome".
I had to return that exact GMK87 base a few weeks ago because it randomly shut off and did not want to wake up again.
Might give that Lucky65 a try although I like 87key boards more...
Those keycaps look VERY similar to a set I have from KBDFans
Once again asking you dear Hipyo to try to do the same with ISO layouts as well. i'd be a really nice challenge.
And you'd help out my fellow ISO bros.
Aside from showing off your impressive finger strength, how was it to type on???
As an artist, i love the fact that you mentioned and even tried to protect us while buying, like, i know so many artists suffering due Aliexpress rip offs, Thank you so much for stopping and knowing we exist
Ali ripoffs? Have you checked A-zon? You'll find the same ripoffs there. I stopped thinking about this because those ripoffs are literally on every online marketplace. Not just chinese ones.
Now build the loudest keyboard possible
Hey hipyo, what else do you do, with those extremely strong rock climbing fingers?
i didn't expect that to be THAT QUIET
Watching you have hundreds of options as an ISO virgin hurts so bad especially since everything is either expensive or Keychron
What are your thoughts about the Royal Kludge RK S98? It has all the bells and whistles at a budget price and is really decent for a full sized keyboard
Can u pls upload more, I know it cost a decent amount but I really love your content, it makes me laugh all the time but I've watched it all....
Your monitor looks great. What's the model of that?
"Sorry, this coupon code is not currently applicable in your country or region"
Son of a....
Yeah thought it was a really good deal, had the same thing.
I've been using this keyboard (tape modded) ($40), Outemu Summer Linear switches (no added lube) ($20), and cheap cherry profile clonekaps ($18) as a daily driver for about 6 months and have been loving it. I probably swapped out the the stabilizers and lubed those up with some cheap kit by Epomaker (sub $10). Nice to see the board discussed on your channel.
Also have experience with the Silent Peach and the Silent Cream switches mentioned here. Peach are a little too light for me, so I always come back tot he Silent Cream Yellows on other boards I've put together (all always under $100).
I daily drive the gmk87 with kang white switches and pbt caps. Works well
I'm using GMK87 too right now and it really good for it's price but daily I have this weird problem, it will type random keys and stop from print screen button. Surely wasn't a virus or somewhat because I tried plugging it from another computer yet same thing happened.
Ngl that sounds like there's a short somewhere. You might need a new pcb
There is something wrong with the audio of the sound test at the end, the volume seems to be strangely muted? I mean I practically don't hear.... oh.
Hi there I'm pretty new to keyboards and I just want you to review AULA F75 pls. =))
Do you maybe know where I can get this kind of keycaps with rounded edges but for the german layout? And which switches imitate the feeling of typing on a C64 the best? Thanks for the answer.
Kind regards,
Dave
Keyboard enthusiasts buying anything but a 100% keyboard
Holy hell that sound test.
all silents sound mushy to me 😖. but i do want a quieter keyboard
we didn't watch that Acer kb vid because the algorithm didn't recommend it...don't know why.
Try the Dareu Dreak switches. Best budged switches. If you don't you have no BALLS.
HIPYO, STILL WAITING FOR THE AULA F75 VIDEO
38 bucks? How? Where? This thing has been sitting at €58 (lowest price) for over 2 months now for me. And I'm checking every seller on a daily basis.
The caps look a bit like Commodore 64 caps...or it's the font? I likey.
Lets do the lucky65 next, its a great one but one problem is the pcb is too thin
GMK 87's are awesome, I remember trying to find a review from you when I built my keyboard using it.
Budget? sure. $40? nope. You BOUGHT a $40 barebone keyboard and built a "Under $100" keyboard with it.
Edit: original title was "I Built a $40 Keyboard Using ONLY AliExpress (GMK 87)" Take a look, there's a thing called Wayback Machine y'know?
When did he say under 40? it was always under 100 what are you on about
LIAR!!!!
Well, yeah?
When referring to barebones keyboards, most people in this hobby use the price of the kit, not the final price with switches+keycaps as most people who buy barebones kits already have switches and keycaps. The keyboard WAS $40. For example, the Zoom75 is usually referred to as a $200 keyboard, and it is a barebones kit.

Hipyo is a climber? What grade?
ZUOYA refreshed the GMKXX lineup. There is now a GMK67-S (65%), ~~GMK84~~ GMK81 (75%), and the GMK87 (TKL). I built up an 87 for a friend and my, it thocks
I'm having trouble with making my GMK87 thock mainly because I don't know what combinations of dampening should I put to make it do that. How different was this new GMK87 compared to the older and did you do anything with it to thock, if any?
Theres also the gmk81
@@Guy_that_exists my mistake, it was the 81, not the 84
Pls buy the clix keyboard cotten candy
Any recommendations for a cheapest full sized ISO please?
Hipyo: "We're gonna need a *rewind* " Somewhere: _"mArKASs bRoWnLEE kPop!"_
The pin got bent cuz they added a layer of tape directly above the pcb. Remove before assembly.
Hey Hipyo could you please try the YUNZII AL71 its very good for its price
Please review the boog 75😭
The lucky 65 seems to be interesting!
Did he buy Holy Panda clone switches and then got moral when it came to cloned keycaps??
btw. theese keycaps looks like clones of noctua set
so sad, coupon does not work in Canada
please buy this lucky 65 thing
by the way i lubed my Royal Kludge red switches and it sounds surprisingly good (my keyboard is the r75) and fell really really smooth
i will replace them with morandis at some point but for now they are good enough
Just a question, not really related, are you going to review the wooting 80he when it comes out?
Neat. I'll have to keep those Outemu silent switches in mind next time I'm looking for stuff. I love me some silent tactile switches.
Has anyone tried the Outemu Silent Peach / Lemon V3 yet?
I was looking for a new board and thank you for this. I did go with the Lemon V3 switches and Womier XVX/ ISA profile keycaps. I also did a 2 layer tape mode on the PCB but man thank you. I love this keyboard, the quality, the silent switches. It is better then any of the prebuild keyboards I used from Ducky, Fnatic, SteelSeries, Roccat, Razer and Cherry which are almost twice the price in my country.
I'm loving the silent peach v2 on the Varmillo Bluebell. Also got some silent peach v3 (same sound profile in an mx housing style), and they are incredible lubed and filmed
Literally my setup (except keycaps) can confirm that keyboard is pretty nice, been using it for abt 6 month now. only issue it sometimes looses its 2.4Ghz connection for no reason and clock on the screen is absolute trash (it drifts a lot and only way to set it to real time is to connect with usb and run image custom tool - app that changes pictures on that screen)
Could you review the Aula f75? I have recently bought one and I would like you to say nice things about it so that I feel good about my purchase.
please review the lucky65 i brought one of them recently and would like to see how you build it!
Me 2. I bought it anyway. :o
This is perfectly timed because I ordered a GMK87 a couple of days ago.
There's also the GMK81, which has the screen but no knob, and is a bit smaller. As well as the GMK67-S.
I'm looking forward to a review of the Lucky 65
What about the screen and knob, not even a custom Hipyo image come on show off what you can do with VIA.
Anyone used a keyboard like this before? It looks pretty high and feel like it would be uncomfortable to type on.
I'm not the first to mention it, but the title's probably misleading 🤔.
I can agree that Aliexpress does make for a nice place to acquire some switches though. During sales that also have coupons they tend to get pretty darn cheap and a nice occasion to pull into a set(s).
Eh, well. I don't have much (if any) respect of Hipyo...yet. He's a cringe burnt out hack as far as making videos goes. Purely for switches...hmmm--- yeah it's not bad! (potentially?) better variety than keychron lol. My (so far) first any only custom keyboard the switches..are jwik that were a eye watering 80 dollars alone. yeah yeah ZealPC's for a enough to cover a TKL are more. lol now that was cheaper than amazon, because it turns out these were B-Stock and amazon wanted another 10-15 which was rediculous for emergency replacement keyboard, 90-95 fucking dollars for switches alone wasn't happening. These came as a realyl nice christmas bundle with pudding caps.
It sounds gross.
Never have I ever expect a keyboard could be this SILENT
Nice editing and explanations on keyboard mods and building btw
Anyone with experience with these cheaper keyboards and longevity?
As long as the typing is better than a rubber dome, I don't care so much about sound, what it looks like etc...
I have a couple good keyboards for home use but don't really want a $150-200 keyboard for going into work or hauling my home keyboards to work.
Is the abm066 good?
I tried putting Outemu Ocean linear switches in this keyboard. One thing I didn’t realize is that most Outemu have one “jagged” pin (must be an Outemu thing because the set of browns and blues I have from older keyboards have that same one jagged pin). Needless to say, the switch went in but trying to get it out was a pain. I know Outemus are notoriously awful to remove but I don’t have an issue removing them from older mechanical keyboards that are designed to use them. I think the poron on a hot swap keyboard like this one causes Outemus to stick. Glad I only put 4 in because two of them bent a pin going in and two broke pulling out along with tearing some of the pvc pad. Atrocious switches and I would recommend anything but Outemu for this keyboard. I used some Leobog Ice Souls I had and they went in and removed smooth. Very poppy sounding and no one jagged pin/leg to get stuck. I think that makes a difference
Pls review and mod the keychron q1 he
Nice video hipyo its always very interesting to watch ur content
That's disturbingly silent for me 😂
Bought this and it's arriving in a week... I'm new to building keyboards... Any tips on how to build it ... Guide or something
Now watch Lord Of The Rings on your new TV.
That Bildo guy needs to take the ring to Hodor.
Just assembled this board and god, what a sound, it's my first mechanical keyboard, and it sounds beautifuly!
Thank you Hipyo for this thing!❤❤
Hippyo... Please .. WILL YOU START SAYING HOW HEAVY KEYBOARDS ARE...
PKEASE ..
I desperately wanna find a super heavy keyboard, and I can't find the weight of keyboards HARDLY ANYWHERE. no matter how hard I look
I want to imagine you read my comment on the last video. But either way, 80% represent!
Will you set up goal for 1.5million subs by end of the year and promise to blue dye your hair?
If we're goin' for weird AliExpress kits I'd totally run an ALPS board.
Matias made those wacky court-stenographer switches with the biggest dampeners in the world and thick PBT Alps keycaps are finally available in cool, tho admittedly limited colors.
What are the outemu silent tactile switches like compared to kailh prestige silents
HIPYO PLEASE HELP my mechanical keyboard works for 1 minute then stops. It happened after I took the whole thing apart completely and put it back. I test the PCB, it works and them stops after a minute. However, my alt key, which flashe faster when pressed, doesent work but it still flashes faster or slower when I press it. I beg you for help please.
Wouldn't you need more to keep it silent?
Hi
Hey Hipyo! is there any chance updating the GMK87 link. I have actually come across with your video recently, but I am unable to buy; saying the product is unavailable.
3:30 preference my ass, my preference does not exist.
I do realize that it is not a common one, but that no one makes it at all irritates me, because everything about it just feels logical to me.
What I'm looking for in a perfect keyboard for me would be a:
Hot-swap, 96%, ortholinear, Nordic layout, keyboard with arrow keys, the Numpad on the left, but mirrored so the last Columb of the Numpad would be the first. Silent tactile switches (or the cool hall effect switch from wooting), per key rgb and shine through keycaps.
