As a longtime runner myself, I understand that there is a MASSIVE difference between a 4 hour marathon vs. 3:30 vs. your sub-3 vs. this incredible 2:48 in Buffalo. I've often found in my racing, whether it's a 5K or 100M ultramarathon, that the overall number just sounds like a number that doesn't mean much. But then when you break down the splits of what that means, you see people's eyes get big. Put another way, there are so few runners who can even run 6:20 pace for a 5k (roughly a 19:40 5k time). You just did that for an entire marathon. I also appreciate the way you rallied with the hamstring cramp. I've been in that spot myself between mile 22 and 24 and had to stop and stretch. You controlled your mind brilliantly there--because it's so easy to make it almost an existential crisis. You're seeing your goal potentially slip away and it makes you question not only running but other things you're pursuing in life. It can spiral. You still finish, but you can lose minutes those last few miles. You avoided that and found that next level. None of us will ever know how it felt or what you were thinking in that moment, and it's amazing to be on the journey with you through the video--which really highlights that accomplishing an endurance feat like this isn't all sunshine and rainbows...otherwise it would just be about talent and fitness and not the mental component.

    YES dude.
Growing up, teachers and other adults shared a sentiment that they "only run if there's something chasing" them. It felt like there was something missing in that mentality, but I couldn't put it into words. Wasn't until I started following your journey that I realized you either run from something or you run toward something; avoid or pursue. The psychological difference is astonishing.
