Maybe I'm wrong but I bet a lot of people would like to see your Colt collection, even if its a brief overview. Other brands of rifle would also be welcome. Thanks for another great video!
You did show the difference in buffer size but would like to know the weight of the 308 buffer. Is similar to a H2 or H3 buffer weight? Experiment with after market charging handles or will the 901 CH work?
That upper looks to be built like the Colt M5. I suspect they took the LE901 uppers and machined them down to this newer design. I assume the barrel will interchange with a LE901 upper if someone could somehow get their hands on a barrel nut wrench.
The M5 & M7 are the same design in different calibers. As you stated, the M5/M7 are machined 6940/901 upper receivers with the modified front receiver extension. I don't know if the 901/M7 barrels can be swapped. They can not be swapped on the 6940/M5, so I would assume the same would be true in .308 WIN.
Do you have the 5.56X45 adapter? I would like to see that installed with a mag and upper. It is my understanding that Colt sold 500 of the 901 model in 7.62x39. Do you have any information on that configuration.
Colt did not make the 901 in 7.62x39mm. They made a rifle called the CK901 for foreign military contracts. It used AK-47 magazines. Forgotten Weapons has a video on the CK901.
This is probably a longshot, but I'm working on a 3D model of one of these as a game asset. Can't seem to find one at any shops near myself to measure a few spots. Any chance you would be able to give me the length of the receiver from the rear of the handguard to the end of the receiver, and the width across the back of the receiver? Reference images are hard to come by for some of these things.
I bought my first AR15 in 2010, a Colt LE6920 marked Law Enforcement Carbine with an Aimpoint Comp M4, I zeroed the Aimpoint and enjoyed it, when Colt came out with the LE901-16 I got one, it's marked Colt Modular Carbine, the flip up sights are marked Colt Defense and the rail is all one piece from front to back. Right after I got the LE 901 I decided I wanted to mount my Aimpoint on it thinking I would have to rezero it of course, I was wrong. From one Colt to another in different calibers it's perfect at 100 yards, so I've only had to zero my Aimpoint Comp M4 once. ;-)
CZ currently own Colt and are doing a great job as far as I can tell with some great products on offer and some under development. Personally I would like the handguard a half inch shorter in length and I don't like the buttstock because the battery compartment covers can be easily lost, also the batteries change the balance of the gun and cause other unwanted issues when inside the buttstock. The B5 SYSTEMS BRAVO STOCK is an example of the type of buttstock design that's needed. Also the charging handle needs some sort of cover over the internals to stop the ingress of mud and contamination obviously. Batteries in the pistol grip with a trapdoor type of cover is a much better way to store batteries and ancillaries than in the buttstock for a few valid reasons as I have mentioned. The BCM GUNFIGHTER MOD 0 GRIP is a good example of the pistol grip design that's needed, with a well designed trapdoor and the added advantage of less of an angle on the pistol grip. Most modern assault rifles and guns in general have a 20 degree pistol grip angle these days. Colt went away with from the monolithic upper mainly because of the LMT patent on AR monolithic uppers hence the new handguard design which is excellent. I like Colt rifles and this particular version has some nice well thought out features for a 7.62×51mm Assault rifle. The absence of the new style of banana shaped trigger guard as seen on the M5 seems like a glaring oversight. The Marines mainly went with the M27 IAR because of it's OTB capability while using a bit of a backdoor to get what they wanted. Also a small redesign of the H&K416 and 417 rifles could be on the horizon courtesy of me, with a new type of ejection port dust cover and an ambi charging handle included in the redesign plus an MLOK handguard. I think Colt should also build a 5.56 version of this rifle as it only has a few small rectifiable flaws. I do like the controls on the lower receiver shown in the video. The newer design with the bolt catch and bolt release combined is not to my liking and not as intuitive or reliable as the one shown. It is also easy to machine two chamfers of different angles on the buffer end of the bolt carrier as CZ have done before on other AR style rifles to make it anti-tilt and more reliable. It's also possible to make the guns select fire for law enforcement and military use. Both sixteen inch and thirteen and a half inch barrels should be on offer for both calibers. All these changes should finish the 7.62×51mm version and the 5.56mm version off nicely for use by Military and Law Enforcement. With a bit of testing on semi and full-auto to be completed on both. CZ are welcome to use my designs and idea's for free on the 7.62×51mm and 5.56mm versions of the rifles shown in this video. 😎🇦🇺👍
How is the M5 a better product than the 6940? Just due to the ambi controls? Genuinely curious as I’m looking to get my first Colt rifle. Was looking at the 6920 Socom. Thanks
Oh, I wonder why a proprietary rail. If I should buy one , I think I'd chop off 4 or 5 inches off the front of the rail. Don't like the look, I'm not a tall person with long arms, don't need all that rail and I'd be mounting an optic on it anyway so I wouldn't need that longer sight radius. Other than that little note , it seems like something good.
Colt is such a disgrace to the American craftsmanship of firearms design and appealing to the commercial sector. Their CEOs should have been fired decades ago. While I own and love some Colt guns, this gun is a pitiful example of the direction of Colt’s attention to detail. Just look at the unrefined shaping on backstrap above the pistol grip (mold seam). Casting that was not smoothed down. Today’s Colts remind me of Arisaka “Last Ditch” rifle. Nothing against Colt aficionados, I know the prancing pony (or name) still attracts buyers, but come on! Maybe this is why all DOD contracts go to HK, Sig and FN and Colt is now sub-contracted. So disappointing. I would actually love to add a M5 or M7 to my collection, but not with the lack of refinement exhibited in their current models.

Thank you for the comment sir. Unfortunately, or fortunately, Colt is all I own with the exception of some non-Colt handguns.
Excellent content. You never disappoint. Keep up the the good work!
Thank you sir!
Awesome Rifle Thank You For the Detailed Look into This Fine Colt 😊😀😮😀👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you Chris!

Great job as usual. Picked mine up this past week. What a beauty. I have to admit I'm still not sure about that charging handle.
Congratulations on getting one. It was a good move. The charging handle is definitely interesting.
Colt CM762-16S And Colt is selling a ( 13 inch ) barrel model ! Great video !
Love that charging handle! Also the barrel nut. I want one.
Very informative video. Are you going to do anything on the “European” Colt in .223?
Yes sir I will be covering the two CR6920-EC variants. You will probably see my first video on those this week.
Thanks for the video
Thank you for stopping by!
great review!
Thank you!
Great video! Good to get a close look. I wonder if we'll see any in Ukraine along with the M5s.
Thanks for the positive words sir. Good question regarding Ukraine. I would imagine some of the Colt Canada C20 rifles are probably already there.
@@thecoltar15resource Strangely haven't seen any of the C20s, perhaps they're still focused on Canadian and Danish contract deliveries for those.

I will do a future video showing the installation of the 5.56mm conversion kit/upper receiver.
@@thecoltar15resource I think they went to Yemen. Not going to Yemen to check on it.

Wonder why they went with a mid length gas vs rifle length ?
Your favorite peanut butter will also remove the leftover adhesive from that tag.

Any other .308 bolts work with this?
Nice..

No dual extractors for the bolt.
Is the M5 any better than the M4?
The lack of the auto sear block makes me wonder who made the lower...
They need to bring back the 901 series. There is a lack of non DMR style AR10 rifles.
This rifle, the CM762-16S replaces the 901 series. Although I am a big fan of the 6940/901 series, the M5 and M7 are better products.
How is the M5 a better product than the 6940? Just due to the ambi controls? Genuinely curious as I’m looking to get my first Colt rifle. Was looking at the 6920 Socom. Thanks
Honk if the only ambi control that interests you is a bolt release.
Going to watch this after the Braves game is over!

I wish they Would add A 5.56 Combo kit I would definitely buy one...😊
Is that you Hank? I didn’t know were a Colt guy. All you talk about is propane!
🤣🤣
People that babble that “not really free floated” nonsense just like to hear themselves talk. It’s as free floated as a gas gun can be.
No it doesn't.
