The scenery is just incredible in South Dakota! The badlands looked so much “friendlier” than when I was there during cold, blustery days in October years past! At Crazy Horse we were lucky enough to witness some major rock blasting, also there was a Buffalo stew feed for everyone there……I can totally understand mama Russo getting emotional in the black hills, the energy there is very strong!

South Dakota has so much to offer! We moved our domicile to SD when we became full time RVers so we are proud to call it our "home" state. I had the same feelings that Christine had in the Black Hills. Stunning! So glad you had this wonderful summer together. ❤️

I love to see your Mom's reaction to all the different places and things she gets to experience on this trip. I loved the Badlands. I was more impressed with how Mt. Rushmore came to be than when I actually saw it! It amazes me what humans are capable of...planning and blasting and carving that monument. And, Crazy Horse...WOW is all I can say. I lived at the Grand Canyon for ten years and it takes a LOT to impress me, but the Badlands impressed me!! I, too, like to imagine settlers and Indians riding horses, living their lives, etc. Can't wait for the next installment of Summer with Mom!! Have a fabulous time!!

Such an awesome trip. The Dignity statue was beautiful. We first read about the Crazy Horse statue in 1990 and have been following its progress since then. It is so amazing. When we first saw it, the hole under his arm had not yet been removed, so it's so exciting to see that progress going on. Hard to believe one man did all the early work by himself. Mt. Rushmore must be really awesome in person. Thank you for bringing us along with you. This has been such an incredible summer. Can't wait to see the next stop. I am glad you got to see my state. I am a Native American and my tribe is located in Southwestern South Dakota. I stumbled on your channel by accident and continued to watch your adventures with your mom. God bless her, she is so sweet. The books she bought for the kids are indeed good books to tell the story of the Lakota (Sioux) of South Dakota. The state is the primary home to the Great Sioux People of the Northern Plains. I love this “summer with Mom” series. It must be the summer for mom’s… my daughter just took me on an epic trip to Alaska! It was definitely on my bucket list and she took me for my birthday. I also got to see my granddaughter that I hadn’t seen for 5 years. ♥️♥️♥️

Last time I was to South Dakota was the early 70's. Wow! Mt. Rushmore and Crazy horse has really improved their facilities. Tractor facility was cool and I saw a couple that I had driven before. So wonderful to see Mom and y'all having such a good time. - M

Oh my gosh guys this is the America I want to see… I’ve been to beautiful Hawaii twice ( from Australia) but lost interest in seeing mainland USA cities due to only seeing bad news. But I’d hop on a plane tomorrow to follow your footsteps doing this fabulous tour of your stunning National and State Parks. Btw my fav movies are American Westerns so I feel I’d feel just like your mum if I ever got to see it in real life… thanks so much for sharing xxx

We just visited Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse last month. It was breathtaking! I could’ve stared at the presidents for days. 🥰💕

I also went thru Yellowstone on my road trip. I took the mountain drive over to Cody, Wyoming. White knuckle drive but absolutely beautiful.

Mom, I LOVE the Black Hills and the Badlands! I have felt exactly like you did while standing at the foot of Mt. Rushmore. My family has been going there since the 60’s the wonder of it never ceases to amaze me. So happy you were able to experience the magic of the Hills! Safe travels!

@@christinerusso7822 I saw the way you got so emotional over the beauty. Over the president's, and what the sculptors had to do. Over Crazy Horse. Millions of people see these sites every year and don't appreciate what they are seeing and experiencing. But you get it. You understand that it's something rare and wondrous.

we took a national forest road in wind cave park, got up close to buffalo, coyote, mule deer, prairie dogs. dirt road one lane. next time with your vehicle would be great. we did yellowstone next too. your Mom will love it. she surely appreciates the beauty of our land.

I driven past the Corn Palace several times, but made the mistake of going inside once. In my opinion, it wasn't worth it. My imagination of how it would look inside was better than reality. We try to go back to the Badlands and Black Hills when we can find the time. Just went to the Badlands from MN over Labor Day weekend. It's one of our favorite national parks.
I want to go back and spend even more time
@@christinerusso7822 I hope you get a chance to go back. We love Custer State Park in the Black Hills and camp there at the Bluebell campground. Some of the state campgrounds are connected to a private resort with more modern accommodations. We have also stayed a couple times in the cabins within the Badlands at Cedar Pass. This is the first year we visited in late summer. Our past trips have always been in October which is a lovely month to visit the area.
