Kait should win daughter in law of the year. She was so supportive of this special time with Joe and MOM. I really appreciated the loved she showed in serving and celebrating MOM.

Christine & Joe are also critical elements of the team, but Kait gave up the most to care for Charlie-she is a loving & generous human. Joe, you won the lottery with your wife!

Out of all the Rigs you have used....Do you have a hands down Favorite..? Truck camper, van, or trailer.....?? Thanx Sean
So we've never camped with a trailer so I can't speak to that but I will say that I don't think it's our style - we like being small and mobile. That said, I'm torn between a well set up 4x4 van and the truck camper as my favorite. Nothing is perfect and they're both compromises...what one lacks, the other has. Plus each one suits a different role. The van is awesome for the A/C and having everything in the same compartment. The truck camper is much better off-road and the sleeping arrangements are much better since the camper is wider and allows for a bigger bed.
Mom better make sure Kait hasn't kidnapped Charley at the end of your adventure.
Charley's heart will always be with my sister, Kait, Joe and me - she loves us all so much but boy does she miss Joe and Kait since they dropped us off

Awww, I'm going to miss seeing your mom and her reaction to the places she got to see. I think trips like these are so important. I watched another TH-camr who took his dad to all of the places they lived while he was growing up and the stories that his dad would tell were so entertaining...but more importantly, the experience for the two of them was priceless. I'm so happy for your mom, getting to spend this time with you and Kate and being able to do something so epic. Everyone should be so lucky.

Oh, I enjoyed this series so much! The love and respect that you have for each other is so evident, and the fact that you were considerate of each other's wants and needs explains what made the trip work. And what a blessing to have that time together! My husband and I travel in a Class B RV, which is a bit bigger than your van, but even it requires a willingness to give and adjust when we're on the road for several weeks. Kudos to all of you for having fun, while having an amazing journey across the country! Thanks for sharing it with us!

That's amazing that she's a lung cancer survivor. Unfortunately my mom died in 1985 from Lung Cancer times have changed and more people survive now. I so happy she was able to get through it. Great conversations. You asked her what she thought about the Camper Van. I so happy I had my truck camper because like yours I could go anywhere a car could go yet have my own bathroom on hand. When I watched people standing in line to use the public bathrooms I thanked my lucky stars. The lines for the restrooms were so long and they don't have enough.

Your so lucky to share such a trip with your mom. I was through there in my F350 and Cirrus truck camper. I have asthma and I had a lot of difficulty with the altitude all over the Rockies. I spent 4 days and the only animal was a Chipmunk and Crow. Not one Buffalo. I did see Elk at the North entrance. Maybe next trip.
So sad to see the summer with mom series come to an end. As a 53 yr. old mom with an adult son, I've enjoyed watching the mother & son time together as much as the sights! And a huge kudos to Kait!

This has been a lovely series. I'm glad you were able to spend the summer traveling with your Mom. Very sweet.
It does show, however, the serious limitations of traveling in an "adventure" van with more than a very close uninhibited couple though. I think my wife and I would want an enclosed bathroom space even though we've been a couple for over 30 years. I'm curious to hear your opinion of the CleverVans City (see Alan Heath's video). It's a very basic van for two, unfortunately not available here in the US. Obviously it's not an off-road vehicle, but it seems like the layout could easily be adapted work in a Sprinter or Transit AWD. It's too bad that something this simple, and frankly inexpensive, isn't available in the United States.
Did you too have an “understanding” about something? Your attitude & replies to mom seemed... stunted? Great series thanks for the ride!

The bison fight was epic. While in South Dakota, some years back, a guide told us he had witnessed a bull bison charge and knock a "Greyhound" style tour bus on its side. Hard to believe, I know. The bison's neck was broken from the impact. Needless to say it was wise of you to move out of the way as soon as possible!
