Growth hormone is the ultimate anti-aging hormone. Here’s how you can increase it by fasting!

    1:02 Facts about growth hormone
1:24 How to boost growth hormone with fasting
    3:13 Fasting and protein intake
    4:24 Summary
In this video, we’re going to talk about how fasting influences growth hormone.
As you age, growth hormone decreases. When you’ve reached your 60s, 70s, and 80s, there’s not much growth hormone left. In turn, this affects your proteins, which causes your skin, joints, muscle, and hair to age.
Increasing growth hormone helps you preserve proteins that keep you looking youthful.
    Growth hormone also helps you:
    • Burn body fat
    • Increase your lean muscle mass
    • Preserve your muscle/prevent muscle loss
    • Increase your bone density
    • Boost your collagen
Growth hormone peaks at puberty, spikes when you’re sleeping, lowers when you eat, increases with high-intensity interval training, and plummets when you’re stressed.
Most importantly, growth hormone increases when you fast.
    • A two-day fast increases growth hormone by up to 200%
    • A three-day fast increases growth hormone by up to 300%
    • A seven-day fast increases growth hormone by up to 1250%
Short-term fasting or intermittent fasting causes four-times better muscle preservation than a low-calorie diet. Fasting also inhibits protein breakdown-which is known as catabolism.
Fasting is an excellent way to support your brain and nervous system.
Keep in mind that the dietary recommendations for protein are between .6-.8 grams of protein per pound of body fat for each meal. You don’t necessarily need to have a protein shake or other protein supplement before every workout or during your fast.

Fasting has changed my life. I was overweight and depressed all the time. After I discovered your channel, I adopt Keto and IF as my new life style...never feel better about myself before. I am now losing 8kg, and trying to lose more. By doing fasting, it get rid of brain fog as I am preparing for an intense exam, I no longer need coffee or energy drinks to boost my study. You are my life changer. /
Edit: I lost 15 kg in 4 months of doing Keto and IF. Never gain any weight [gain some during holiday, but always get it back down], is doing great for 2 years now.

But , now all I eat is nutrients not food . So early morning with apple cider vinegar with lemon , then after 2 hours vegetable shake and then after two hours boiled eggs or anytype of healthy fats. And thats it rest of the 20 hours I don't eat .

Good one! 100% correct for many reasons, especially autophagy. But in the sense of HGH production, this only applies to men who produce HGH in 4 pulsations during sleep, starting between 10pm and 11pm. Women produce HGH diurnally-as long as there is sunlight. Blue light at night will mess things up in this regard.

Sidhartha Sankar Dutta Right but then it wouldn’t be so very humorous by sounding like “The best things in life are free.” Sleep can also be a lot of different things at different times. Like how it’s not only a biological necessity. It’s also how we get away from the world of nonsense around us by “defragmenting” & de cluttering our minds:)

Thank you for all the effort you put into these informative and concise vids -- it's really changed my thinking in so many ways. I'm curious about the extended fasting periods / increased HGH -- how long does the increased HGH spike last? 200% after a 2-day fast -- is that at the end of the fasting period, and then it drops quickly from there? Just trying to understand how frequently a person would need to do a sustained fast to see a constant uptick in HGH.

That's exactly what I thought. A 200 pound young person following 2mad would end up consuming 320 gm [200*(0.8+0.8)] of protein in a day as per his calculation. That's impossible to do on a daily basis, even with protein shakes.

This makes me think about military training. You know, their basic 'Longest Days' or Navy SEAL's 'Hell's Week' or training parts like that. Intense physical demands, and food so reduced that they are effectively fasting whilst going through these training sessions.
It may sound downright cruel to us civies, and just about every civie I have told about these training routines starts looking pale just by listening to it. But I am actually planning on joining, so I've looked into what training methods are the best for gains, both physically and mentally.
I've been eating arguably 3/5th maybe even half of what I used to eat because of unemployment atm and moving into my own place with flatmates, so I had to carefully watch what I'm buying. This has restricted my 'comfort foods', I've not had takeaways for months, my diet currently exists of just whole grain oats, milk, eggs and beans, toast and spinach, sardines and bananas and berries. Most of the times I eat these raw (smoothies), I only fry the beans and occasionally the eggs.
I've managed to smash out just as much, if not more, in my fitness routines than I have before. Working out on an empty stomach is not harder, I've found it easier! My body fat % has visibly gone down (can see more abs, just to name one thing), yet I'm able to smash out more each workout. It's as if my mind feels more relaxed on an empty stomach, and as if my body agrees and enjoys using the stored calories (aka fats) during the workouts. And afterwards I don't even need a massive meal anymore, I just feel fuller with less (keep in mind, it's quality food rather than just quantity food).
That said, I do believe that the military training routines are actually quite healthy. The physical exercises produces more endorphins, the cardiovascular system (lungs and heart) get fitter and stronger, and, as this video shows, the body undergoing a kind of fasting proves more beneficial rather than not.
Thanks again for a brief yet most interesting video, sir! I will recommend you to my future mates in the military, or who want to sign up but need to work on their diets.

About the .6-.8 protein per pound rule... Let's say it equals to 50g per meal... I remember your video breaking down the absorption rate and percentage of protein absorption in certain foods like eggs, poultry, whey etc.. if whey was 50%, then do I need to consume 100g of protein to hit my 50g target since I won't absorb the full amount?
TLDR.. do I need to factor in percentages of protein absorption and increase intake to properly hit my target?
Another random question. Are insulin spikes due to carbohydrates (IE sugar) and spikes due to protein different? In regards to preventing diabetes, surely a spike due to carbohydrates will be far worse than a spike due to protein...
    Top work Dr Berg 👍

Unfortunately for me, any fast over 24-36 hrs and my muscles do get a little smaller. Everyone is different, I know.
Keto and IF have been and continue to be awesome for me but the reality now is to figure out how to build muscle without fat and without living in the weight room.

    • @joliepollman

This is my concern. I was in the gym constantly and the trainer had me up my calories but I still gained fat. Then I got sick and I wasn't eating enough and I didn't lose the fat in my stomach but I lost the muscle in my legs. I've built them back up a little bit and now I'm afraid to fast because I don't want to lose the muscle in my legs but in order to heal disease they say you need to fast at least 3 plus days. Hoping somebody else chimes in on this thread.

Since I posted that a couple years ago, I've learned more and fine tuned my own life, so to speak.
For what it is worth, it took a bit of time, over a year to really dial in on what was best for my particular metabolism. You'll probably need to do the same. But with time and patience you'll find out the ideal IF time for yourself whether it is 24hrs or light. Just make sure that once in awhile you do a full 24 to 36 hour fast. And also don't forget you're human and have a little naughty stuff at Christmas. Keto/IF it's very forgiving and you'll get back on track in no time☺

Hour 36 as I type this. Going for 48-60. I do what I call a "turbo fast" by starting with an epsom salt laxative (2 Tbs. dissolved in to 3-4 cups of water drank all at once)... I believe it helps get to the fat burning and autophagy stages quicker by rapidly removing all or most of the food from the digestive system. In other words, I can feel the fast ramping-up 4-6 hours after the laxative; otherwise, without the laxative it would take 24 hours. I do consume plenty of water and some pink salt during fasting.
