Got my new 2025 Trailsport last week after watching this and previous Pilot videos on your channel- You're an auto journalist of the absolute highest caliber. Never ever change what you're doing.
@abrahamk9 Agree 💯. Size is definitely not all important. Usability is. I happen to own a Mercedes EQS with a hyperscreen, the largest, brightest, highest definition screen in any car. The 9 in screen on the Honda is much less visually impressive yet just as useful and much easier to use. Furthermore, when using the 360 camera system, the size of the camera display is exactly the same size as the Hondas! So, no one should need to feel screen size envy🤣
Good review. We've got 30K miles on the '23 EX-L trim version (nice balance of price and features with 18" wheels better suited for snow/off-road use). We use it a s a daily hauler and road-trip/ski-access car. It' feels pretty wide for a mid-sized SUV. Acoustic glass makes a noticeable difference (we compared against the base model). Small'ish screen was a *plus* for us and infotainment works well. Two annoyances on the non trail-sport versions: you can't easily retrofit the Trail Sport skid plate/recovery point to the other trim levels since the frame doesn't have the threaded inserts to hold it in place. Also, a full-size tire will not fit under-deck with enough ground clearance in case you were thinking of using a full-sized spare -- on the Trail Sport version, the rear storage compartment is more shallow to accommodate a full-sized spare. It's a fantastic AWD car that drives well. A worthy land yacht.
In regards to your captains chairs comment, the Touring/Elite/Black trims (and all trims of the MDX) have a completely removable middle seat in the second row that can actually be stowed in the underfloor compartment in the trunk. This effectively creates captains chairs if you want them. I prefer a bench though and am happy Honda did this.
Great review, it's hard to test the off-road capabilities on a test drive, so I really appreciate your videos. We're going with the Elite trim (level just below Black Edition) and yeah, Honda really nailed it with the seats. We tested every other 3 row SUV out there, Honda's are the most comfortable for 2024/2025 models.
Hello! You are my main tester who will decide me to buy the new 2026 passport! I hope you will test it in the same places where it failed. Either in the woods in the small tight curve where it remained on the spot because the all-wheel drive system was not efficient enough. And in the mountain with the snow when it needed power to continue its momentum but it cut the power and you remained stopped.
I love my 2024 Honda Pilot Touring. Love it. Great for the family. Also, you have the option for captains chairs because the middle bench seat has the option to go in the truck.
At this point I'm sort of giving up on Honda ever doing this but it sure would be nice if they could make an Odyssey with AWD. It would literally be the perfect vehicle for me.
This is the best non German SUV for daily driving. Drives smaller than what it is and has tons of room. I drove my friends and I was shocked at how good it was, especially being a basic Honda. Honda did a great job. It’s also amazing in the snow and ice. Steering is great.
Really tempting to go back to Honda with their 2025 line up. I wonder if they have a hybrid plan coming up soon. 4:05 My family do prefer the bench seats over captain seats. Center armrest and cup holders are more convenient for them.
iVTM-4 is, IMO one of if not the best AWD systems. Years ago I had a 2009 Touring and I was always impressed with its performance. We did some light off-road and some really heavy snow, which always did great. I will remind people that Honda suggests a 24,000 fluid change in the iVTM-4 differential. I did it myself a couple of times, and back then it was

@@diego2817 Look at Ford, Chevy, and Toyota. All plastic. If you want quality, buy BMW, Audi , or best there is Porsche. Honda gives a great vehicle for 50k. Atleast it still comes with NA V6. Suspension and AWD is great. Drives smaller than what it is.
As a f150 owner interested in the ridgeline(yes I know this is a pilot review) the things that would put the next gen ridgeline over the top for me would be basically this pilot but with just north of 300hp and 285ftlb tq, a little more back seat space, mpg improvement. And maybe be capable of 1500w power supply. Just a wish list though for what I need for my family.
The screen is great! Simmer down with wanting a TV on your dash. 9" is plenty big enough. Honda why would you put buttons, taking up the same space of a shifter, in place of a shifter? A shifter is safer and more predictable. In that you don't have to look when shifting. Honda is not the only manufacturer guilty of this notion. Innovation in place of safety is going backwards.
The height of this screen is actually taller than a lot of the 12” screens in competitors, which I find to be more usable. Having a super wide screen doesn’t really translate to ease of use.
I had been doing a lot of research on Elite and Black edition and found out that except some exterior framing , there is no real difference between them. Price wise, Elite is a bit better than the Black edition. Therefore, I ended up buying the Elite. I really recommend Elite to anyone.
@adigamo You are correct, the Elite and the Black are in every measure the exact same car. However, if you like the blacked out look and exclusive black with red trim interior, the price differential is small. The Elite's price is still high. If you are spending that amount, the price between them is no big deal. If you want to save some bucks and still get an amply equipped one, and can stomach an iffy stereo, the Touring is the best deal. For me, the non Bose stereo is a deal breaker, given that the Bose is a LOT better. That said, if you are an "audiophile" even the Bose system is meh. The non branded stereo is simply bad, not utter trash, but still definitely Walmart level🤣

When you spoke of the minivan, i just wish it comes AWD. An Honda Odyssey was on my radar but after checking the specs, its only comes with a FR drive train.
The 2025 Honda Pilot Black Edition is a game-changer! Its aggressive look with those Gloss Black 20-inch alloy wheels and blackout treatments really make it stand out. Plus, the spacious interior with red stitching and advanced features like the 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster make it perfect for families and adventurers alike. Can’t wait to see it on the road!
Pilot. Just really worried about the tow capacity. My VW Toureg tows our camper and it’s like 4500 loaded so very close to the capacity of the ‘25 pilot.
Personally have no problem with a 9” inch screen. My current screen is 8” and I very rarely look at it anyways. No sure what the fascination is with the massive screens. Eyes should be on the road.
Notice the Ford Explorer doesnt come up when you talk about cross shopping. Is it just that bad / poor value or just not enough hands on time with it compare it fairly?
this one should have the captain chairs in 2nd row. they should be optional in the trailsport along with the sunroof. give us a roof rack instead. not digging the all black interiors in either. i dont care about screen size but wish it were more integrated. really looking forward to the next passport trailsport as it should be the one to rule them all, hopefully. maybe a grand c killer as well, but it still wont have a low range like the new 4runner which i think will do well in term of sales in 2025 also, better than the wrangler and bronco anyway. 4r will be more affordable but not quite grand c sales numbers bc its still a truck and the grand c prob sells more as a 2wd crossover than other trims. the grand c and wrangler needs a new engine like the sst and interior refresh to keep up.
Agree on tired of all black interiors!! Get creative, a little contrast won’t kill anyone. As for the trail sport captains chairs, they force that option because the rear underfloor storage is different from the other trims so that they could fit a full size spare underneath, and thus there would be no storage space for the removable center seat as in the other trims. I presume they went with captains chairs because a) they’re trendy and b) it was cheaper than fabricating a one off bench seat.
The old drivetrain in the Pilot was better when they switched to the more reliable 9 speed transmission made by ZF. Their previous engine was also better with Vtec!
Y'all can't just say that this chunk compares favorably to Subaru Ascent without data and without mentioning that top Fat Mama trim (Special 7 Touring) is still 10K cheaper than this red Black Edition. But the main points of the video are there - climbing in the back and stating that y'all are legs-torso proportionate. 😂 So you get your like.
I love the trail sport but it doesn’t come with bench row seats in second row and that is why I’m not buying the pilot! I’m waiting for the new passport let’s see!
Ryan you're great at what you do however this new course isn't doing you justice. It's flat and boring to watch. The other courses had an incline which made it look more challenging and exciting while you climbed. The new course literally looks like a walk in the park.
I think it would be much better to test drive base model if it is available to you, because majority of buyrs could not afford the top end model. I am not sure it the base model is as capable.
Ryan, as mentioned in your video of the Trail Sport, Honda's brake vectoring algorithm is quite impressive in Trail mode (compared to other crossovers). Honda should seriously consider adding a trim above the Trail Sport (like a Trail Sport X) with even more ground clearance, especially for the next Passport, if Honda wants to steal some customers from the Subaru crowd.
Just bought one! If you think of it as a more utilitarian, less flashy and less expensive version of the base MDX, you are absolutely correct. in fact, it ups the MDX mechanically in one category, Honda's in-house 10 speed transmission is better than the outsourced 9 speed in the MDX ( till Acura transitions to the 10 speed) 😉 BTW great review! Good job!
@fredmoss4540 The engine of the Pilot and the regular MDX are exactly the same engine with slightly different tuning (J35y8). The MDX type S uses the old 3.0 with a turbo.
I couldn’t care less about the giant screens. My F150 has a 12 inch screen and I don’t think I use it for anything other than google map projection. What bothers me here is the placement of the screen. It looks like some cheap after market addition especially with the volume knob and a couple of tacky looking buttons directly on it.
Ryan, have you heard anything about the problems with the transmission on the newer pilots? I currently own a 21 CROSSTREK and feel like I would choose the Trailsport over an Ascent, but I’ve heard bad things about the trans.

And especially the Ridgeline. Ditch the stupid brunk and get a full-size spare for a pickup.
Just bought one! If you think of it as a more utilitarian, less flashy and less expensive version of the base MDX, you are absolutely correct. in fact, it ups the MDX mechanically in one category, Honda's in-house 10 speed transmission is better than the outsourced 9 speed in the MDX ( till Acura transitions to the 10 speed) 😉
BTW great review! Good job!
Current gen MDX uses Honda’s in house 10 speed.

True, my mistake.
@@Wised1000The engine in Pilot is newer than MDX but less HP still.
VTEC gone uses Cam Phasers.
@fredmoss4540
The engine of the Pilot and the regular MDX are exactly the same engine with slightly different tuning (J35y8). The MDX type S uses the old 3.0 with a turbo.

I still prefer the v6 version in my 2022 although I wish it had the 10-speed besides that 2025 is a big upgrade but until my 2022 literally dies.
IMO, Pilot is not a crossover, it's a mid-size SUV. Crossover would be CRV imo.
Test the new Outlander PHEV S-AWC.
Nice ride except those screens that look 10 yrs old
effectively all wheel steering except it's not actually all wheel steering.
This or Subaru ascent?!
Ryan, have you heard anything about the problems with the transmission on the newer pilots? I currently own a 21 CROSSTREK and feel like I would choose the Trailsport over an Ascent, but I’ve heard bad things about the trans.
pilot good
NEVER EVER EVER TAKE A 6 CYLINDER VEHICLE DOWN TO 3.
WTF IS WRONG WITH CAR MANUFACTURERS.
IS SAVING 10 Kilometers that EFFING IMPORTANT ?
Damn Climate NAZZZZIS... They ruined everything !!!!!!
NOT EVEN A BUTTON
It irritates me when a vehicle has a black appearance package and half of the badges are in chrome.
Looks like you don't want to hold the Pilot to too high of a standard when it comes to todays high technology.
