Climbing Orangutan Holds On To The Two Babies In Her Arms

  • Orangutan Mum Jazz is on the move with her newborn baby Jim and her daughter's baby Joe in her arms. Climbing the new log climbing frame and holding on to the babies with not just her feet. She puts one of each hand in her mouth to hold on to them making sure they are safe.
    Orangutan mum Jazz (30) seems to love the new climbing frame and can't stop climbing. Even with the two babies in her arm, she manages just fine. Holding on to the rope with her hands and feet and the babies on her belly. The babies manage to hold on, but if you look at her foot, Jazz gives extra support. When she gets up a bit higher, she takes Jim's and Joe's hands in her mouth to securely hold on to them. When she's on the top and starts swinging, she again makes sure they are safe with her foot. Balancing sideways on the log. She has a rest in the yellow hammock. You see that Jim is a bit older as he's already much more alert to his surrounding.
    Jazz climbs to the new canopy where Jim gives her a kiss. Her daughter's baby is in her arms as well, sometimes she just has it tucked away a bit more. You'll see both babies when she turns around. She tries to have a lie-down, but it can't be comfy, so she gets back up and sits there with the two babies. They are both nursing, so that's a good sign.
    Orangutan Mother Jazz (30) from the Dudley zoo became super mum as she's not just looking after her own 4-week-old baby boy Jim, now she's looking after her daughter's newborn baby as well, as her daughter found first-time motherhood a little bit challenging.
    When her daughter Sprout gave birth and didn't know what to do, her mum Jazz quickly stepped in to save the day and took on her baby as well.
    Jazz is carrying the two babies around with her. Nursing both and giving both love, care and attention. Staff is closely monitoring both babies and both mums.

    With some much-needed help from my other half, I'm happy to announce I'll be showing videos every Wednesday again for the next few weeks. It will be a mixture of animals, but a lot more to come from Jazz, Sprout, Jim and Joe.

    Looks like she has more than enough maternal instincts for them both, not to mention climbing skills . 😁. She’s so darn careful with them. Very impressive indeed. She seems to be enjoying the mother role immensely .

    Wonderful coverage of a very rare moment for orangutan observation - not sure how many zoos have had success with a mother rearing two babies at once before, but the odds are not likely. Thank you for giving the public around the world the opportunity to cheer on Jazz, Sprout, Jim, and Joe💖💖💖

    Jazz is just acting like a caring grandmother would do in desperate measures such as Jazz's family. They are just as human as we humans are. They

      I don't think they're "just as human as we are." Rather, I think that humans are not as special as some of us like to think we are. Our traits, and "their" traits, are simply traits of animals on this planet.

    Amazing how aware she is that it’s important to cover them with her leg when climbing as she knows they could fall. Bit different to koalas that climb great heights with babies clinging on but no loving arms of mum.😃

    • @KathyPrendergast-cu5ci
      @KathyPrendergast-cu5ci ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's very rare for a baby orangutan or other ape to fall; even as newborns they have a very strong grip and hold on tight to their mother's fur instinctively, even when they're asleep. They can hold on with their feet too. That's probably why Jazz is confident enough to climb around with the babies, although being such a good mother the still provides a bit of extra security. Human babies BTW are also born with an extremely powerful grip, they can hold on to something tightly enough to support their body weight, but that ability goes away after a few weeks.

      I guess just like a human mother with twins, if she's getting enough nutrition she should be able to manage it. When the babies get a little bigger the staff probably has plans to give them supplemental feedings, if they can train her to bring them right up to the bars so keepers can feed them. Usually orangutan moms are very chill about that, if they trust their keepers.

    I hope there is such a thing as reincarnation and I really want to come back as a female orangutan! They live in trees which is one of my little day dreams, I want to live right at the top of a tree , I want to be able to swing around and climb like that but more than anything I want to have baby orangutans. The one that's her grandson is a bit younger, I think just by a few weeks. It took me awhile to figure out the relationship between the two babies; I guess Jim is Joe's uncle because Joe's mom is his sister, and Joe is Jim's nephew, and they're also half-brothers because they have the same father. Don't think it matters to them though; they're just destined to be best friends growing up.
