    I have not heard of these primers before. Thanks for showing them off. Shawn from The Scale Model Car Guy Channel sent me over. I'm a figure painter as well.

      Thanks for coming by. Shawn's a great guy. I think he is responsible for almost every single one of my subs. LOL. They are some great primers. I mainly paint 1/10 scale to 1/6 scale figures. What about you?

      @@TheFrayedBrush I paint from 54mm to 1/6 scale. I have three larger kits to do but haven't worked up the courage to do them yet.

    It's interesting to see white primer zenithal compared to white ink. I'm always hearing from people how chalky, speckly, and troublesome white paints are. So far, white ink over black primer gives me a very nice blended value sketch, almost as if I used greys.

    • @TheFrayedBrush
      @TheFrayedBrush  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Inks in general are amazing for value sketches. I did a live stream this past weekend and I used Molotow All 4 One ink for the base and then zenithaled with Liquitex Titanium White ink. It came out flawless. Molotow can sometimes have a slight shine to it so I always take a couple extra minutes and brush on some matte varnish. It really helps smooth out the reflection of the painting lights.

      Do you thin the white ink ? And if yes to what ratio plz?

    This isn't what I build but I enjoyed the tutorial. I think about tiring my hand at a figure all the time. The black, white from the top, and the the grey makes a lot of sense to help figure out where the shading is. I'll be watching

      It’s a lot of fun. I have for the most part moved away from figures this size. I mainly do 1/10 to 1/6 scale figures now. I used to do scale models when I was a teenager but haven’t done one in forever. I might do one again for a video sometime.

    I was shocked how easy these primers are to work with.
    My first time using it, I primed for nearly 2 straight hours, using an H&S Infinity with a 0.4 needle, without stopping to clean the airbrush.
    Never had a hint of a clog, or ring in the cup, just swished around in the cup with a paint brush every time I refilled it.
    It took almost no time to clean the airbrush when I was done.
    For the white zenithal, thin it a little, and juice up the pressure a bit, it will help with the speckling.

    Tried the black and dark grey and they are amazing. The white was coming out a little chalky. It didn't ruin my minis but i won't use it again. I think i would just rather spray their titanium white as zenithol instead of using the chalky white primer. But that's just me.

    • @TheFrayedBrush
      @TheFrayedBrush  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have found that I like using a white ink for my zenithal. I don’t think I’ve ever used a white paint outside of primer. I’ll have to give that a shot.

      @@user-bm3ts2ql6s can you ellaborate on the White Primer being chalky? I'm currently about to paint a 500-point Eldar army and I want to prime them today. I have an airbrush with Pro Acryl White Primer and Citadel Wraithbone spray can.
      Is the Wraithbone spray can really that superior?

      I use it because i paint all types of figures and military kits and it can be used on plastic , resin and metal but its lacquer so it stinks for a while and you will need a lacquer primer too . Regards Gav.

    Have you also tried the scale 75 primers? How do you think they compare? I've found using something like Army Painter Matt Black warpaint is also a pretty good primer

    • @TheFrayedBrush
      @TheFrayedBrush  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not tried the Scale 75 primers. I don’t think I’ve heard of them. I’ll have to look in to that. I’ve tried using the Army Painter paints before. I’m not sure if it’s the environment I live in or what but I’ve never had much luck with them. But I know some people who get amazing results with them.

    Did you have any problems at all with chalkiness or clogging with the white primer?

    • @TheFrayedBrush
      @TheFrayedBrush  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally have had no issues with any of the colors. I am able to spray these directly through. For some other primes I've used before, I use a mixture of 10% airbrush thinner, 10% airbrush thinner, and 80% water. I'll give this mixture a shot with this primer to see if there are any adverse affects.

      These are some great primers. One thing I have found is they can be a little “weak” until you get some paint on. I have had it rub off if I handle the model too much before laying paint down.

    • @SpoonyBard88
      @SpoonyBard88 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheFrayedBrush that might be due to just how thin of a layer you are getting with the airbrush. These do seem to have fantastic coverage which means you can do fewer/thinner coats.

      @@SpoonyBard88 valid point. I could probably go a little thicker and still have a thin layer.
