- While the 2022 Proton X70 MC update is light on appearance changes, there's actually a big update lying beneath the surface - and that's the new 1.5 TGDi engine from the X50. But is the little three-cylinder mill enough for a C-segment SUV? Watch on to find out!

One more thing I notice, there's no more collapsible headrest of both front seats which available in Pre MC1 all model. I'm not sure MC1 1.8tgdi. Proton didn't mention this in their keynote of course but I just notice it.
Still loving my 1.8 tgdi ckd. 4 always better than 3. Always.
Hey friend, how long you have been using your X70 huh ?
but there is an drag race between the CX-5, CRV 1.5TCP, Xtrail Hybrid, Peugout 3008 and X70 premiumX CKD… and it turns out the X70 was the last one even it has more torQue than the CRV… 300nm vs 243nm… that drag race was done by AutoBuzz itself
Well...I would advice you to do a drag race yourself to know the truth...Never simply believe what u see in the internet 😬
last one? Can share the link??
@@websterlcl
The CRV got 2nd th-cam.com/video/l3w5rNwa034/w-d-xo.html
@@websterlcl they did 2x drag race. 300nm probably wasn't enough for a heavy x70

@@choongaikiro1812 well, x70 weight almost 1700 kg while crv is around 1550 kg.. some more honda cvt/engine is sensitive throttle that will result of more 'pickup' while x70 are more linear in term of acceleration due to dct transmission characteristic...
Waiting uncle YS Genting Test drive, need some stress test.
It did have better finishing though but still the spare parts problem will be a hurdle for buyers
Better buy Corolla Cross. More reliable and easy to get spare parts. Instead of buying X70 where there are problems for spare parts and aftersales
Though I’m still Proton fan, gotta admit that there are many issues on spare parts and service center. There are choices, can either buy Corolla Cross or Subaru XV. Peugeot 2008 is also much better buy.
thanks but No HRV review?
the new Honda HRV is coming very soon… should consider the HRV since the X70 premiumX 1.8TGD-i price already rm122k… the new HRV 1.5L DOHC VTEC Turbo price will be somewhere around rm130k++… with its Honda Sensing safety suites, Apple Carplay and Android Auto and so on… at least it wont have spare parts issue
Even though the car is good, but after sales service is terrible,.. Then it would be nightmare.
later akn ada yg pakai racechip... hehehe...utk jnis kaki tekan mgkn akn rsa kurg...tp utk santai...sure ok punya
Trust me, when this facelift sales not good, Geely will come out another facelift which use different engine. It still need some times to clear Ann X70 and X50 stocks before really comes out with the totally new facelift.
Makes sense! Esp the facelifted version is already out in china
Corolla Cross also comes with Toyota Safety Sense together with blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, 360 degree camera. Come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Though using 1.8L gasoline engine, but fuel consumption is much better than X70, same can be said for hybrid. At least won’t get as much problem as X70, also for spare parts
Toyota B segment but C segment car price, plus non independent multilink rear suspension
Rachel busy taking photos at the beginning
Put it with hrv 1.8 and cx5 2.0 drag race
The new motor will do just fine. If 1.5t is ok for crv/ Accord, I don't see why it would be inadequate for x70.
exactly because in this turbocharged era, displacement doesn’t mean anything anymore.
@@Nabilllllll Preach brother.
It's the 3 cylinders that's the problem
@@sesatin2dawell The amount of cylinders doesn’t co-relate to the amount of power the engine makes.
@@Nabilllllll 3 cylinders are not as refined as 4
Accord also taking 1.5 turbo......i think should be ok
Why no one ask whether Myvi 1.5L is adequate? Myvi and teh corolla cross is even slower than this car.
This both hard to say cus both of them is more aerodynamic n lighter
@@rainsyahdante6702 just to clarify, are you saying a lighter car will be able to beat both manufacturer's stated 0-100 time?
The problem is they see a big SUV with "only" 1.5 litre and said "ooh not enough la for SUV"
They didn't realize this 1.5 T-GDI has about similar power output like the 1.8
They are based so they think Myvi is powerful with 1.5 102hp
Fellow Malaysians really don't understand about hp numbers lol
1.5 engine very noises after long run better go for 1.8
I’ve test driven the new 1.5 MC1 X70,
Yes, it has power but it feels slow compared to a 1.8L plus a heavier X70 chassis that the 1.5 engine has to overcome caused a lower power to weight ratio.
Yes, on paper, the horse power vs torque number is high, but when it comes to real life it is UNDER POWER.
Woon you got any IG or Facebook page?
Yup! Find me on IG at @woonwc_
y no sunroof?
available for the top spec premium X variant with 1.8T engine
@@Nabilllllll ouhh, thts y they are much cheaper thn before, orite thnx bud
price actually increase respectively
why people keep saying 3 piston engine is good, making living? no offence
Am i blind or the facelift got nothing changed?
You're not wrong! The only "facelift" bits are the blacked-out trims on the outside, new wheels, and a black headliner on the interior.
Owner save the roadtax cost, p1 save the parts cost
Clearing stocks from china.
Malaysia always BOLEH
1st time seen facelift downgrade engine - dont tell new tech bla..bla..bla...bullshit
Imagine the heavy body with downgrade PS & Touque. Assume a higher fc rate
Anyhow spareparts is another issue yet to settle by Proton
x70 should pair with at least 1.8T above, better with 2.0T due to heavy body weight
The car looks aged, especially with the interior. The fact that Proton could only bring newer wheels design and a streamlined powertrain unit from x50 shows that this is a hasty job in order to counter it's competitor. Pretty sure there will be another facelift to revamp the outlook and interior coming out soon. This is merely a transition model before a fresh new facelifted design to be ready.
Would disagree with that interior design. Obviously not the best but it still looks good
test drove the car, it is really underpowered. forget what auto journalist says, they have to say nice things to stay in the good book. Paying more and getting one cyclinder less is just a no go. You might as well just buy the x50. Proton just kill their product differentiation again. Was expecting Geely to make bold moves with Proton, again the local culture kicks in and there goes the lazy product outcome. x70 is already about time to be replaced with new models. You are better getting the new HRV which is build on the Honda civic platform, not so of a C segment but it is really bold design.
Hp tan
No difference
sales quarranty drop!!!
Mask on in your car by yourself……… ya that’s a no for me dawg.
We had two other passengers in the car too, but not within camera's framing 🙂
