Imo anyone who's getting married should have a discussion about whether or not they're ok with Cake smashing, and then stick to the answer.

Yep, and honestly if one is the type to really be on board with the cake smashing and the other isn't it really sounds like a case of incompatible senses of humor. It sounds like a small thing but I disagree. I wouldn't want to be with someone I had to constantly feel I was tiptoeing around when it comes to joking around.

It's not just disrespectful, it can actually be dangerous; some bakeries will leave wooden supports inside the cake for stability, and those can cause serious injury if you shove your face into a cake and hit one.

It's fortunate that he did this at the wedding, in a way. Most abusers are smart of enough to wait until after the wedding, and work up to it gradually. By the time it's really bad, their partner can be wholly demoralized and isolated from support.

I never understood this mashing the cake into their face thing.
On my older sister's wedding the groom (my brother-in-law now) gently smeared a little cream from the cake next to her mouth as if it was a leftover after she ate from the cake - it was kind of funny and sweet as she get it with her thumb at ate it (then smiled widely and nodded that it was good). No harm to anything. This is the most - I think - is acceptable.

I think it's dumb as hell, considering when someone goes all in for the smash, it gets everywhere, and now there's a ruined (likely expensive) makeup job, ruined (likely expensive) hairstyle, and have fun trying to get the bits of frosting and crap off the bride's very expensive dress (and hope it won't make a stain).
The worst ones are the guys who are egged on by their idiot friends to do it, even after the bride said no way, and the guys are all laughing. Never occurs to them that the rest of the room usually isn't til the bride storms out and they get the evil eye. Wanting to avoid crap like this is a big reason why I'd never wanna do a traditional wedding in front of oodles of people.

One of my best friends is Muslim and I love the stories about when they are presented men for them to marry by her family. My favourite was when their paternal grandma pressured her dad to ask her and her sister if one of them were interested in marrying a 30-something year old dude when my friend and her sister were still in their early to mid 20s. Her dad was so incredibly uncomfortable and my friend said no, which relieved him but the sister, who is a bit of a troll, decided to torture her dad by acting interested and asking a bunch of questions about the guy before she too said no and capped it off with the line: he's way too young for me.

The groom had a heart attack on the alter, was really similar to what happened to a Family friend. She had a major heart attack in November and he drove her 3 hour back to the local hospital that had sent her 3 hours away because they didn't have the facilities to treat a major heart properly. On the way he stopped at the court house and they got married. It was his idea as he needed to be married or related to her in some way to be able to stay with her in the hospital. They've been friends for decades, both WWII vets, and have now been happily married for almost 20 years this December. Happy ending for them.
She had an ex husband who got her black out drunk and made her sign marriage papers (late 1950s). She was stuck with him for 2 year before she got him blackout drunk and signed divorce.paper. she took him for literally everything he had. He was abusive. The whole time they were together she has still in the marine but he was out every night with different woman and left her at home with a newborn and his 4 kids from other relationships. It goes on and on. Ask and I'll share.

    • @Rosewolf29
      @Rosewolf29 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

@robloxguy453 basically, she got divorced from her high school sweetheart. They had know each other since they were kids and married young. So when they split it was mutual and they still talked everyday (they had 5 kids) and saw each other often, they just didn't want to be married to each other anymore. She was single for a year, didn't want to date anyone, and if I remember right, her 2nd husband (we'll call him dumbf for obvious reasons) was basically stalking her. He saw her at a coffee shop type place and wouldn't leave her alone. She said she got a creepy vibe off him and one night she went out for drinks with some of her marine buddies, got completely wasted and woke up the next morning in a house she didn't recognize. Dumbf had got her black out drunk and made her sign marriage papers. She was stuck with him for two years in which time he beat her repeatedly. Dumbf had 4 kids from other relationships (oldest was 11, youngest was 2). Saddest part was the oldest said their mom's were there one day and then poof vanished off the face of the earth. She decided that when she left she would take the kids with her (she has a very big heart and felt really bad for those kids) and when she did divorce him she did the same thing to him that he had done to her. Which apparently wasn't that hard as he was a heavy drinker. She took him for every penny he had. Dude basically ended up with just the clothes on his back. Once the divorce was finalized she sold Everything and I mean everything. Her marines helped her clear out the house and took what they wanted (her now husband took dumbf's car and motorcycle and totaled both in a week, not his fault took a turn too fast in the rain on the bike and got into a major fender bender, he was ok thankfully) and she went back to her first husband. He had been her rock through everything and she married him again. She had another drunken marriage in between but that ended mutually. Weirdest bit about dumbf is that the day after the divorce was finalized he showed up to "talk" (yeah right) but she had her marine buddies with her and she told him to leave her alone and never come back. Next day he disappeared. I don't think anyone has seen him since. At least she never saw him again. Good thing too, she had two small kids from him and didn't want them around him. Can't say I blame her. XD

@@Loaves_of_Cat he should have. I don't know kw why he wasn't. She doesn't like to talk much about him. I think they didn't get a divorce because she was had a baby and was serving in the military. No one would really believe a female that she was assaulted or drugged. Sadly still happening today. If I remember the laws right, and I could be wrong, is if a woman is pregnant or gets pregnant before or shortly after marriage, the divorce is put on hold until after the baby comes. So that was probably a hold up, the other being she wasn't there, she was in Vietnam, serving.

In the end, she could have annulled due to being drugged and pressed charges and volunteered to take the kids after proving further abuse. But IDK

I can comment on this one. I didn't go to the wedding but did go to the evening reception. My friend married a girl who could hardly speak any English. They got married and the bride disappeared with a bloke that she told my friend was her brother. She turns up six hours later to the evening do with said brother in tow. My friend finds out 3 days later that this brother was actually her boyfriend and she'd only married my friend to be able to stay in Britain and to make it easier for her boyfriend to stay which is why she'd said that he was her brother. The marriage was annulled and her and her boyfriend were deported about 6mths later.

Fortunately there weren't any fist fights or anything, the groom's mother was single, having divorced her husband years earlier and evidently (as far as we know) she only blew single men at the reception. If she had blew a married man from the bride's side of the family it likely would have erupted into a brawl as the women on that side of the family are well versed in fighting and all fight like men.

Ive got one, but they got married. It was after the wedding. My Aunt Casey and Uncle James got married a few years back, it was perfect. Though we noticed that my aunt seemed uncomfy and would stand in strange positions, which we originally thought was because the dress was rubbing somewhere. Well we get back to our cabin and my mom tells her to take a hot bubble bath, which she does. But then 15 mins in she starts yelling, she cant get up out the tub, she said it felt like she was being stabbed. Mom took her to the closest hospital, we found out her Gallbladder ruptured. She had to get it removed, and now she just eats popcorn.
Uncle James didnt really do anything, he was outside smoking. I wasnt allowed to help.

The tradition of smashing the cake in the bride's face dates back to the ancient Greeks. You had to do it as hard as possible to prove your dominance over your bride and then the in-laws had to eat the leftover cake off the floor. With an origin like that, I'm not surprised that couples who do it end up separating.

Yes, I was doing catering job and actualy I was helping to the family of the bride to decorate the church. They didn't have wedding planer? It's not comon in my country. And during the ceremony in church, and you gotta be on religious service, sermon and all, a man barged in yelling something about bride and groom being cousins. Turns out the groom's mom was cheating on her husband with the brides uncle. They're cousins. They also found out she destroyed brides aunts life (brides fathers sister) by separating her from her only one and true love, whom she got pregnant too. The brides aunt raised her child alone because of the groom's mothers lies and horible things she had done. The father of the brides aunts child never found out that he had a child. Everybody started yelling at the groom's mother. Her son(the groom) wanted to kill her as soon as she gets of the church. Because he wouldn't kill her in church. She yelled that it was all brides aunts fault because her childs father wouldnt want any woman but the brides aunt. And she deserved him more. Also she said her husband is an idiot with big tits(he doesn't have tits) and he is not good for her so she had to cheat. It's her right. Her son said:"I almost maried my cousin you bitch!" She aid:"oh, stop with the crap! You're not important here, I am! I was supose to be a Lady who lives in US. But I had to live here in a crapy vilage!" So she saw no problem in her actions. But the bigger circus started when someone at the wedding actualy called the man who was the father of the brides aunts child, her son's father to be exact. And told him everything. And he was in a visit in a nearby town for one festival-Saint that they celebrate. Big deal in this region. He was shocked. He came there and that's when the shit realy hit the fen. If He didn't kill the groom's mother that time then I guess he never will but the brides aunt, her son and he's sons father sued the groom's mom. Her husband divorced her, the brides uncle divorced his wife. The brides aunt told to the groom's mom:"you patetic bitch!I loved this man when I was young, no matter what, I gave birth and raised our son, I still love him and I will allways love him! And I have a son, family, friends and now he knows and you are all alone now!"
The groom's mom said:"I was supose to be the best one, not you! I was supose to be with him!"
The brides aunts ex (her sons father) said :"you're crazy! Now listen, I would never, ever be with you! Not even if we were the only people in the world! I left the country and went to live in US because you told me that my girfriend got maried to another man! See you in court, bitch!" then he left with his son and brides aunt. That was such a circus. I was like:" did this now happen for real? "We then had to call the ambulance for the priest. The man was in shock. There was no wedding, the money for food, decorations, music and all was wasted. They did share the food to cousins and neighbours, the band returned the money, some people sent gifts before the wedding so they returned them. But the deposit for the venue, money for the flowers, for some ice sculptures(that the groom's mother requested) went to a waste . Big, big shit all in Al I did get paid for that day of work

Starts looking around for her and can't find her. He decides to go check the bridal suite. Opens the door and sees his new wife of 2+ hours doinking HIS BROTHER the best man. Reception ended soon thereafter and so did the marriage....true story...

No one is going to care about this but wtf is with the Ash(ley)’s today for me. This morning my sister talked about an Ashley she hates, this afternoon my brother asked a different Ashley to his homecoming, I got tattooed by a woman named Ashley today, and there’s an Ashley in the story at 11:30 😟 even weirder, you want to know where I am right now? A place called Ashton. And the kid in the house behind mine is also named Ashton and he rolled over my foot with his tricycle today.

Yeah. Smashing the cake into your new spouse's face- ESPECIALLY if they've already specifically told you not to do that- is an extreme level of disrespect and merits instant annulment imo. If they can't respect you even that far, how are they going to respect you in anything else? Financial decisions? Childcare disagreements? Good f*ing luck! Especially if it's done to the bride, who's usually spent a pretty penny on hair, makeup, and dress, she's put a lot of time and expense into her appearance, she's probably been looking forward to this day for years, and then the guy just goes and treats it like garbage for a laugh. Or I hope it's supposed to be funny. It isn't, but it's got to have SOME reason or why would people even do it in the first place? But of course it's not okay for the bride to do it to the groom either. Spouses should be able to trust each other as much as if not above everyone else. I'm divorced and all, I've seen countless bad marriages, but I still have this dream that it has to work out for some people, even if it's rare. Our marriage may not have worked out due to various factors, but I never publicly disrespected my ex like that, nor did he ever do anything like that to me. We're still friends, actually. If I ever do get married again, even if I'm a bit more jaded and bit less "our love will last for eternity!" naive, I'd still never smash cake in the face of this hypothetical guy. It's just not right.
I feel like I should say that I myself didn't pay to have my hair or makeup done. Our major expenses were just renting the venue, hiring catering, flowers, and cake (all from HyVee, we got a discount for getting all three at the same place) and decorating the place. My dress was free, or close to- I bought the pattern on sale and a friend made it as her gift to me. I'd still have it except somehow at some point one of the cats peed on it (I know exactly which one, btw, it's always the same one who does that.) and I couldn't get the smell out. (I bought my shoes on sale too, but the only style I liked wasn't in my size- please learn from my mistake. Wedding shoes 2 sizes too small will make you bleed and not be fun at all.) I actually totally forgot about my hair and makeup. I'd slept on the maid of honor's floor so we could all get ready together to save time, but that meant that I didn't sleep well, and between being woken up just in time and being excited I forgot about hair and makeup, which I usually never do anyway so it wasn't part of my normal routine. So for me it wouldn't be about the hair and makeup nonsense, but simply a respect thing. Other women might have different priorities, though.
