hmm. Since I'd wear a tiny-MT on my keyring, the "where is that ring mounted" question is big for me. At 03:14 with both knife blades open, look where that stupid RING is at on the Gerber! I have a Victorinox Classic SD on my chain now, same problem, I'd have to be constantly removing that Gerber form my keychain to use that knife for anything useful. Leatherman = NOT in the way = FTW.
    Thanks for the video. well-done.

I got the Leatherman Squirt PS4 in black . Come in more handy & used more than I thought it would . It’s very good & stands up well as long as people don’t expect them to cope with jobs that larger more robust tools should be used for .

Great vid! I just picked up one of these. Just an alert to others who are considering purchasing one of these: THE CORNERS ARE SHAAAAARP!!! Other than that though, it's a great tool with tons of practical uses/applications

I liked my Squirt a lot when I first bought it just over a year ago - at a discount because I wasn't willing to pay the asking price of £45 here in the UK, that's about 60 US$. However bit by bit I've become a bit disenchanted. The knife blade isn't bad for opening packages and it's a bit larger and more robust than the Victorinox 58mm knives but the backspring tension is virtually non-existent, almost to the extent of it being floppy. Doesn't hinder me when using it but it's disappointing for a so-called premium product, at a premium price. Second, the bottle opener is a pain to use, it takes 3 or 4 attempts at a sharp angle, and I've stopped taking it to work because it was embarrassing trying to open a beer at the end of work, and them handing me their lighters to open it with as they could see me struggling. Third, the flat Phillips driver is made of something like butter because although I've used it less times than I have fingers on one hand, the sides of it have deformed. Finally the scissors: at first I thought they were 8/10 (compared to 10/10 for Victorinox) but now I'd rate them at most 4/10, the rivet in the centre means that the blades are so loose they are unable to snip threads or open soft plastic packaging, or cut fabric...The pliers/wire cutters and file are great though, I especially like that the file has a serrated edge and can actually be used to saw through plastic and aluminium, and, I suppose, wood in a pinch. But that's only 2 out of 6 tools which are good
A few months ago I took a punt on the Nextool Mini Flagship, it was a risk as I'd read a lot of reports of springs on scissors/pliers breaking straight out of the box or with little use, but it was only £15 including delivery. I haven't had any problems with the springs, perhaps Nextool fixed the issue. Anyway it scores
performancewise over the Squirt with those 4 tools with issues outlined above. If I am likely to need to cut or screw anything, or open a bottle, I take my Nextool. I only carry the Squirt now on days off where I'm less likely to have to use it, as a ''gentleman's carry'' mini multitool, as it does have a better form factor and is more compact.

in the summary you forgot to mention the main feature.. scissors and pliars in same small package.
personally I hate serrated blades with a vengance, they usually come sharp from the factory, but you will never see them that sharp ever again after couple of uses as there are no good pocket sharpeners designed for serrated blades, as the serration often have several different sized grooves, plain edges are easy to maintain razor sharp out in the field, and with that, no serration is needed.

You didnt mention the steel type, Leatherman uses 420HC which isn't the best but i would take it any day over Gerber's mystery steel. If you choose to use the tiny blade that is. And the chisel grind (which is what it's called) is actually easier to sharpen. And that internal spring system you mentioned, seems to me that it would actually weaken the pliers, because they would have to mill out a lot of metal around the pivot to make room for the spring system.

The worse thing about the Gerber Vice is the little shiny design that is apparently played in to make it more visually interesting is it has kinda sharp edges .I had to actually. File mine and squeeze it to make it more smooth in the hand . the best thing about the Gerber Vice is the two knife blades . so technically if you had to use it as a self defense tool you get 2 cuts instead of one .

  • @jerrymuns

Yeah the vice’s blade is pretty thick. Great for batoning!!

I have the Gerber dime and the finish is also scratched and banged up to hell, after 3 years of use withouts being babied. These smooth Aluminium finishes will get scratched and look bad quick, the vise has a pattern similar to the Victorinox alox models, and they're more durable for sure

For those choosing between the two, there are some cons about the Gerber which were not mentioned:
    1) Gerber is 100% imported.
    2) To tighten the Gerber you have to buy a set of ultra small torx bits, not the standard set you find at the hardware store... just to tighten a $20 pocket knife.
    3) The Gerber blade comes dull and stays that way. Mine never held an edge.
    4) The Gerber wire cutters are too small for standard household electrical wire.
    5)

  • @AlwaysDoingSomething

You are 100% correct. 100% of Gerber products are imported.

I have both, & like them equally.
I find them too small to be much use, & consider them only good for a key-chain (or purse) to be used if u have nothing else.
However, although I never use them, I still really like them & appreciate the design & engineering that has gone into them.
(FYI - Nextool make a similar tool - the Mini Sailor Pro, which is pretty decent as well)

      Yeah... It sucks! I gave 120€ ($140) for my Wave. Also squirt ps4 is 44 € ($50+)

I can't speak for these particular tools, but I've had both Gerber and Leatherman tools and the quality on the Leathermans has always been far better. I know it's more expensive, but the Leatherman Micra is far better than either of these.

    • @simonh6371

Yeah I like it but it doesn't have pliers, just kinda shears/scissors things, pliers are the dealbreaker for me.

  • @SignedSign

..maybe because "both of them ride in the same pocket" is the reason they are all scratched up.. try putting them in seperate pockets if you want to keep their finish

I believe the leatherman is U.S.A made & the gerber is made in China. I think.

the leatherman has better blade steel. it aint no S30V but 420HC beats gerber mystery steel. i feel for reasons that cant be condensed into under 400 words that the leathermans are better than the gerbers.

Gerber looks like a stupid product when compared to leatherman. That file was a joke. Plus all gerbers are ugly. I'd never buy one, vic and leatherman is the way to go
