    I love multi-tools!!
    When I was a Maintenance Mechanic, I carried a "Leatherman Surge" on my belt at all times.
    While doing my shift start up rounds I would pair that with a medium "Crescent" adjustable wrench.
    I could repair 99% of the problems I found on my rounds with those two items...

    The Gerber Dime does NOT have a file. It is not only far too short and has no edge file, but the coating finish makes it too smooth to act as a file. It’s just a useless mock-up of a file.

    The leatherman squirt is definitely in my opinion built way better then the dime. I have had both starting with the dime the knife went out on the first one. They did send me a new one in the first week the pliers broke. The leatherman still going strong. I would recommend leatherman by

    I've been using the Squirt PS4 for 13 years. Use it constantly: screwdrivers, pliers, scissors, files, blade--in that order. Only used wire cutter/bottle opener a few times. I love it and it has always been in my pocket. Hasn't rusted. I found the Micra just too clumsy to use.

    How the heck did you get all that information for all those tools in 7 minutes? Very impressive

  • @fervent2896

    I bought the dime 5 months ago and it lived in my pocket or in my bag. I fucking love the box cutter and the bottle opener. My pliers also failed and wouldn't align properly and the bottle opener somehow twisted slightly, but ive also sent mine back today and they're gonna send me a replacement. It's such a great multitool but just doesn't seem to be very robust, then again, it is only a small multitool. Since I sent it back I've needed to use it so many times and is definitely worth the money.

    I have the dime and the squirt... with that said, I put my keychains through hell. I broke 2 dimes (the screws holding them together always fail on me first). Carried my squirt and used it on most tasks and never had to replace it. All tools are heavily worn...
    Squirt is higher quality metal but I love the Dime’s design. Wish I could combine them.

      I wish I could combine a Squirt pliers and design with Victorinox folding tools & springs. Reason being is that the backspring on the Squirt knife is surprisingly weak and doesn't snap like even a small Vic. Secondly the scissors are good on the LM, but not quite as good as those on a 58mm Vic like Classic/Rambler/Minichamp. Finally I was really shocked when, as with all my MTs and knives, I tried to get sparks off a firesteel, in this case with the spine of the Squirt's blade, with it folded in...and my firesteel damaged the spine of the blade. It's still perfectly serviceable but it shows that 420 steel is softer and inferior to the 440 used on Victorinox.

    I designed and made a leather skin layer next to my wallet for a Leatherman micro and a Nitecore Tiki, I got a Ridge wallet, that open for notes, i put one thin layer of leather and made the back of the wallet so there is room formthe two things, dont add much space but is super to always got a 300 Lumen light and a Leatherman.

    I have three Gerber multi-tools and love them. When ordering and receiving their survival kit and noticed the small multi-tool in it I figured it was as good as the other larger ones and it may come in handy.

    I just cannot understand why people like Gerber products, in my experience Gerber = cheap materials in expensive products. I own several of their products (including the Dime) but disappointed with all of them, i'll never buy others again.

    Great review - I love these things and carry the Gerber Bear Grylls compact multi tool on my car keys but supplement that with usually a larger Victorinox Swiss Army knife (for general EDC) in my pocket or a Leatherman Sidekick on my belt (for camping / outdoor work). My wife has the Victorinox Classic SD on her car keys.

    wouldn't it be great, if the MultiTool company of your choice (SwissArmy/ Gerber/Leatherman etc) can custom make a multitool with your preferred options.
    I heard *Leatherman* can do this , with limitations and high price range.
    Great review 😀 👍

    Been around knives and this gear comunity for about 6/7 years now. Can never go wrong with the Gerber dime. To this date my favorite micro tool. I've had like 5. At that size and price u really can't complain. Simplistic and utilitarian as fuuuc$$. The package opener tool blasts it out the water. And the bottle opener always comes in handy if you living right! Lol

  • @simonh6371
    @simonh6371 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I guess the one I opted for isn't technically a ''micro'' multitool but falls into the very rare category of mid-sized, together with the LM Juice, which is horrendously expensive plus I don't really like the design (the knife blade is designed to fit the handle, rather than vice versa, wtf?)
    It's the SOG micro toolclip, its about the same size as a 93mm SAK like the Farmer, and weighs the same at 86g. It has a belt clip so I just clip it up there where it's hardly noticeable. I also carry a 91 or 93mm SAK on a belt clip e.g. Farmer or Hiker, plus a 58mm Classic in my coin pocket. The pliers on the SOG are far more substantial than those on a Gerber DIme/Vise or LM Squirt/Style PS, but of course not as large as on a Gerber MP600 or Leatherman Wave/Surge etc. With that 3 piece EDC I have a great toolset with a choice of 3 to 4 blades, all different sizes, bottle & can opener, number of different size flathead screwdrivers (around 5), at least one Phillips, scissors, tweezers and toothpick, plus pen if I have a plus scales Vic. There aren't many reviews on the SOG micro but it's been out in various forms since the early 90s, when it was initially manufactured in Japan. Now it's made in Taiwan which I reckon is better than made in China.
    I wish there were more reviews on this mt, specifically in comparison with Squirt, Style & Juice. I am not prepared to buy those just to verify that my choice of EDC mt is the right one!

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A few weeks down the line and I gave in and bought a Squirt PS4, because it's the only pliers based MT which is so small and well designed, plus it has scissors, so I EDC rotate it with a Vic Classic SD as a coin pocket carry when I'm not carrying a larger MT. The pliers are great but the backspring on the blade is far weaker than a Vic. Also the blade itself is softer, as I found to my surprise when I tried to get sparks off a firesteel with the spine (blade folded in obviously) and the firesteel chewed up the spine a bit, this would never happen on any Victorinox tool, obviously 440 steel is better than 420. The scissors are actually good and will cut paracord, but those on Vic 58mms are just a tad better. In an ideal world, the Squirt would be a joint LM-Vic product, LM making the pliers and casing, with the folding tools and springs being made by Vic. Never gonna happen of course lol. Anyway I always carry the Squirt together with a 91 or 93mm Vic, as an alternative to a 58mm coin pocket carry it is fine.

    Gerber products are universally garbage for outdoors use, the bear grylls series especially. A solid outdoors multitool would be the victorinox farmer, bonus points for the alox version. It's got all the tools you need for woodworking. The Hiker and Trailmaster can be useful outdoors too. Serrated blades are useless in the outdoors, they only ever have any use in an urban environment.

    • @KentSurvival
      @KentSurvival  ปีที่แล้ว

      hi, the drivers on these are very similar (I show them in the earlier video in use) but for a full size I think the Gerber Centre Drive seems to be the best with screwdriver, I don't own it but would like one. Thank you for watching :)
