One of the big complaints halos 4 & 5 received alot of was it's choice in art style, it's a very different design style compared to the prior games, just compare chiefs armour or elites from 2 and 5 for example. The general consensus was that it was a step in the wrong direction with 4 in which 343i doubled down on with 5, alongside the visuals, 5 doubled down on new gameplay mechanics from 4 which also fell under mixed reception, this time 5 pushed it to more of an extreme. Then there was the story, which others have already brought up with how the trailers for 5 didn't portray the story we got, and how it's revival of Cortana lessened the impact of 4's story, which was well received. I will keep my opinions out of it but suffice to say, rather than hearing the concerns of the community after 4, the devs furthered the divide between those who liked the new changes and those who didn't.

I agree with you, the fight with Chief vs Locke was always lackluster, doesn't matter if lock could be leveling the playing field with his upgraded armor, they both should have been blindingly quick to the viewer. They both should have been destroying shit around them showing how durable/strong they are.

It's worse when you consider the fact that the Chief would have GEN2 armor at this point, so the playing field wouldn't even be level. Personally the one part of the game I am very disappointed it

You need to see halo 4 spartan ops to know why Halsey is with Jul 'Mdama.
Fun fact: May have already been mentioned but pretty much right after the end of the game, Buck would leave Fireteam Osiris and be ordered by ONI to reform Alpha-Nine from his ODST days as a spartan fireteam. It's all detailed in the book Halo: New Blood
My opinion on Halo 5 is a mixed bag.
People might find some of what I say as a hot take but I like some of the innovation they took in gameplay elements such as Spartan movement abilities, aiming down sights. It gives the Halo experience a different kind of spin. The story itself for me was “It could have been better” to “it could have been different.” But who can resist the Master Chief, the Arbiter and the Nathan Fillion? And I will say that the openings for both Blue Team and Fireteam Osiris showed to a degree how powerful and skilled Spartans are on the field.
Also the game we got felt a lot different from what the initial trailers advertised. A lot of the promotional material portrayed Agent Locke and Osiris as ONI’s reapers. The ones they send after Spartans going rogue. It felt like Agent Locke was Chief’s other side of the coin and was the only Spartan capable of hunting the legendary war hero. Instead the hunt became a team-up instead of a showdown. That’s how it felt to me anyways.

You missed some details since you haven’t gone over the Halo 4: Spartan Ops cinematics. They show the introduction of Juul M’dama, Halsey’s capture and how she had her arm amputated.
@@kaizammitThere was two trailers (alongside an interactive web series) called hunt the truth. One was from chiefs perspective and the other was Locke’s, they’re pretty good but probably too short to react to unless you combined it with other trailers.

I really hate how they made Cortana into a villain. The ending of Halo 4 was so powerful, it was so unnecessary, and an incredibly bad idea to tarnish Cortana and make her into a silly megalomaniac villain.
Having team Osiris in a Halo 4 side story game, would've been cool.
The idea of Chief going awol and Locke going after him is an awesome concept, handled absolutely horribly in this game. Laughable, actually.
Check out the Hunt the truth podcast! That's an incredible way to do a story about Chief possibly going awol.

I recorded this but decided to cut it out, I actually said this game really is egg throwing. Egg on Master Chief and Cortana. I think they wanted to bring a new hero to the forefront like Rodimus Prime to Optimus Prime. Like that, it didn't work and they back pedalled.

The story so bad that they essentially sidelined it in Halo Infinite and soft rebooted. Imagine a mainline Halo game where you only play as Master Chief for THREE missions.
Also you probably should have watched Halo 4 Spartan Ops before this, shows you how Halsey ends up with the Covenant and what they're up to.
Also Locke IS Luke Cage, he appeared in a web series called Halo Nightfall. But the voice actor isn't him for this game sadly.
One of the many issues with 343’s trilogy, 1-3 are cohesive and 4-infinite are all over the place.

As a result, Infinite ditched 10 years of built-up lore and felt worse than Halo 5 and was littered with nostalgia in an attempt to win back fans, I almost didn't finish the game and have no plans to play it on legendary

The most disappointing thing about this story was how lame they made the fight scene between Locke and Master Chief. Especially after the amazing advertising 343 did, hyping up their confrontation in the commercials.
Jul M'Dama is the head of the zealous splinter force that don't agree with what the arbiter did and want the return of the original Covenant. During the spartan ops story that was released after Halo 4's campaign and release, Halsey was kidnapped by them, although it is a little more complicated than that, as Halsey had her own activities that were seen as traitorous by some.
Most of the hostility for this game are rooted in the deceitful marketing and eyebrow raising story direction, they did a lot to undermine the great ending of halo 4, and I wish they had kept the sacrifice that Cortana made, I think it woulda also allowed them to focus more on a banished story in infinite. In all honesty, I enjoyed the gameplay quite a lot for Halo 5 and the cinematics can be very awesome. There were also a lot of things that remain unexplained that just kinda happened in 5, like Blue team just randomly coming back into the story. Also the bots that fill your team if you are playing solo are just bad. (If you are playing coop, you can choose who you play as, ie. you can choose buck and they all have their own starter loadout)
Tbh I still just want this to get a pc port so I can give it another go whenever I feel like binging the entire halo franchise, especially since there are some great combat arenas in this game and there are some cool moments even if they fumbled the ending and the boss fights. I also kinda wanna see the PVEVP mode that they invented for this game, with better netcode since it was really fun, even with the lag that would happen as more ai and bosses spawned in. (Kinda like halo flavoured titanfall) Also I love some of the tracks in the OST, especially towards the end, a good example is "the trials."
There's a Spartan Ops side story that gives more context for Halo 5
Say what you will but the scenes LOOK great and that opening of them running down the mountain is so lore accurate
I honestly hope you do halo infinite's cutscenes next, 343 may have dropped the ball on halo 5, but they definitely made up for it in infinite, fwi infinite's cutscenes are all uncut shots so alot of them are just conversations, but there are a few golden ones in there
That fight scene between Chief and Locke should’ve been a blur, it was way too slow. An argument could be made that Chief was holding back because of his promise to himself to never harm another human after him killing those 3 ODSTs back in training. Either way that fight was very disappointing. Especially to the fans of Spartan IIs who know how it would’ve and should’ve panned out.
Different levels of AI are common within the human systems. If you remember in ODST there is a city AI that you interact with as well. They would be lesser level AI which are great for administration but limited higher functions. Ships generally have a stronger one to operate the systems and also work tactical systems. Then you get the highest form like Cortana which are modeled on and taken from actual human brains. Cortana IS Halsey or a flash clone of Halsey that the sacrifices to create Cortana.
39:00 Everyone agrees that Chief should have thrown Locke around like a child.
So with Bucks armor it technically is still the ODST armor he just customized it to look like spartan armor that's why his helmet is the same.
I love that though.
At the end of the halo 3 the covenant fell apart and the war ended. But they brought them back.
Can't wait to see him watch Infinite and see them throw all of Cortana into the garbage can in the first five minutes :)

@@kaizammit It is but when they stared doing custom animations and motion capture they came up with some fantastic fight scenes, mainly thanks to the choreography by the late great Monty Oum. He also headed RWBY before he sadly passed, think you'd appreciate the ridiculous fight scenes in that too
The later seasons had some pretty good fight scenes.
Halo 5 for me is a real love and hate game. It has some really good ideas that I was interested in and love, but the way it implimented them just didn't hit as well as it should like you mentioned. In regards to soundtrack, gameplay and graphics the game was excellent, but it really fell apart in the story, even though it has some interesting ideas. Personally I actually rather liked the idea of Cortana being a villain, as you could aruge that he Cortana in 5 isn't the same as in 4, she's infact a rampant fragment that survived during the slipspace jump and used the Domain (a Precursor galaxy spanning database) to rebuild herself, but since this isn't the "true" Cortana she was a lot more human as she was rebuilt up from one of those rampant fragments.
As people have mentioned, the main false advertising was done during the Hunt the Truth ad campaign, there was an audio drama which was amazingly done and was about a reporter investigating Oni propaganda, and there was also 2 main trailers told from both Locke and Chiefs side which are well worth a quick look. It really feels like they tried to put too much into one game, and it should've been a Halo spin off with Osiris and the Arbiter reclaiming Sanghelios, which would've introduce Osiris more without detracting from Chiefs appearance time, then go into Halo 5 with the Cortana stuff.
It's a shame you didn't like the Didact from 4 though, as he's one of my favourites, but it's really understable why as near most of his story/lore was locked behind in game terminals and the Forerunner trilogy books. Because of the negative reception to the Didact and the Prometheans (mainly gameplay wise) they basically threw out the Didact and finished his story in a comic, and more recently an amazing book (Epitaph), then did 5 with Cortana as the villain, but since this also had a negative reception, they decided to do a 'soft reboot' with Infinite basically throwing away a lot of the story points from 5.
My biggest issue with 343 by far is how they react to negative feedback way to extremely, rather than try to continue and end the story they're currently doing, which I think could've been interesting if done well, they'd rather just do a 6 months time skip and soft reboot. Though despite my dislike of the throwing away of ideas, they did an ok/passable job of smoothing out the removed story points in Infinite, but i'll always be disappointed they just couldn't stick with a main story theme for more than one game.

For me it's simple why I don't like the story. Why do I as a player, whos been playing halo since its conception , as John, saving the human race game after game want to play as someone hunting him down. There was just no motivation for me to play as Locke

Something just feels "off" with the fights and some movement in the cutscenes. Outside the first one down the mountain side they just don't have the weight and speed you feel Spartans should have

Seeing Nathan Fillion's head stuck in there is super off-putting to me. Most of the time animators will make characters who look similar to the voice actor but not literally just their head stuck on some other body.
its unfortunate that you really miss a lot of backstory on locke unless you watched nightfall. also if i remember correctly the older the spartans are the larger they are so blue team would be bigger than palmer and palmer would be bigger than locke and his team which might be why it looked like her head was so big. And the thing about blue teams helmets looking so crazy is because you don't see their faces like you do lockes team so its the only way you can get personality from them

To be honest with you, there's some great beginner tutorials on it and when you start the software, it tells you what to do. I didn't say it in the sponsored section in case they didn't like it but it's like a mixture of easy mobile phones dials with powerful editing software.
You can get a free trial for as long as you want, it just water marks it so at least then, you can learn the basics. It's probably the easiest editing software I've ever used hence I said yes to working with them.

So honestly Halo 5 Guardians as a halo game sucks. But if it wasn’t a Halo game and it wasn’t connected to the halo series. It would be a lot better.
Just change the art style... make the game longer and explains more things. (Blue teams, cortana surviving his death, more mission with the Chief...) and this will be way better.
When will we see a call of duty? Maybe cod ww2 or cod ghost?

Your opinion on the fight was basically what every fan felt. Lackluster and made no sense. Chief shouldve smashed him. And they were way to slow. Just felt like it was missing something

I miss halo 5 in somewhat way i dont know what it is .. Infinite feels so weird story is much muuch better but the gameplay of it, halo 5 played much smoother.
Halo 5 was a decent game. However, it was a bad Halo. The story, the aesthetic, the characters…
They’re just not what halo is supposed to be.
The gunplay was fantastic. The multiplayer was fun. But because it essentially ruined the story, people hated it. I did too.
To me it always felt like they tried too much new(er) in Halo 5 and abandoned the continuity and logic from the liked and appreciated games before.
Halo 4 mechanicwise was a big step forward compared to Halo 3 and it wasnt all well recieved but the story from 3 was continued with new elements and a satisfying end to a long story.
In 5 they made the end completely to 4 completely irrelevant and tried to keep up with other shooters of the time (felt like that to me), combined with well liked characters from previous games and books alike to create a bigger and more modern game...
And to my own satisfacion it backfired completely, with too many 'main' characters and too much speed, story and gameplay wise, it became a blur without a proper line to follow.
As others already pointed out, the advertising was a shitshow and nearly a scam.
It was an interesting game with new mechanics, some good most just not fitting for Halo, some lore influences to later books and comics.
Halo Infinite felt way more fitting and for me, immersive, than playing a Spartan team of 4 and only caring about one and a half of them (Buck and Vale) trying to make them the new faces or adversaries to the old Blue Team that should crush them just compared to already existing lore.

I really dont like the intro cinematic, it feels way too much
I was a ton more invested in the spartans the moment I saw them when I booted Reach the first time, it had a calm and more grounded approach compared to this completely over the top introduction wich doesnt make any sense
why have the briefing 10 seconds before they jump out right over a battlefield, why jump out over a battlefield to begin with if you have to walk to the objective anyways
all of this is so right in the face like "look how cool we are you have to like us at all cost because we do these super cool things at full speed with so many things happening left and right so you dont have the chance to stop and ask why are they doing this exactly?"
Well, at first, H6 was supposed to concluded both H4 and H5, but the hardcore fans said so many heavy things to the devs, (critics, hated and more.) they pretty much retcon everything from H4 and H5, sadly...
The only concern I really have with H4 and 5... was the art style... and for H5, maybe the story, because this was a little bit lackluster after the marketing we get.
Personnally, I liked the direction... Cortana die to return as the vilain... and become a clone of Halsey's strict mind with a big focus to protect the galaxy. (343 have so many options to explain why.)

@@kaizammit It's Xbox exclusive like all those games were but some of them were released later on PC as The Master Chief Collection (Reach for example). In fact it's only one missing game.
Infinite was great, they just dropped the ball on the Live service and adding content. The campaign was not one of the issues for Infinite
All 343 halo was good in a way... just, they just listen too much to the critics and the hated coming from the fans... until they try in every game to change what the fans didnt like about the last game... (multiplayer, cortana dying, art style, etc.)
Halo 5 just didnt have good story that's all I had a problem with as I play halo for story more then multiplayer it desspointed me. halo infinite story so much better and good they soft rebooted.
