This film is a classic to me. It’s not the best superhero movie, but the best Fantastic Four movie. Plus the actors are the best choices for them.

When Chris Evans was cast as Captain America, at first I thought it was a bad choice. He ended up being perfect for both roles.

In the comics, Doom is a cross between Tony Stark and Dr. Strange.
His mother made a deal with the devil, so he learned magic to try to save her soul. He also has a genius level intellect.
Which is funny because RD jr is going to play Dr Doom in the MCU
The connection between force fields and invisibility is that the characters are said to be using force fields to bend light around them so as to be invisible.
Also the Incredibles are totally based of the fantastic four in the comics with the mom having the same powers as reed Richard's and the fact the us four of them if you don't count Jack Jack also that was a big part of the comics was the fantastic four being heros but also having kids being a family
There's also a sequel to this called Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Fantastic Four is one of the most underapprecaited Marvel movies. It truly played on the family dynamic and the camp which is truly what The FF is all about!
The sequel is what ruined the legacy of this movie
One of the best superhero movies of the 2000s IMO and they're actually called "Marvel's First Family" because they're the first characters introduced in the comics ever since the company was rebranded to Marvel in 1960
You picked up on the parallel between Violet and Sue Storm but forgot about the mother being able to stretch like Mr. Fantastic.
The whole Incredibles family is an allegory for the Fantastic Four, they just didn't want a kid always playing with fire, so they gave Dash blazing speed instead, while being a personality match for Johnny.

I remember seeing this with my mom when i was a kid. We both loved the Thing because not only because he's a badass but he also learned to accept what he is and gave up being normal to help his friends. Being different isn't always a bad thing after all.

Fun Fact Addie the fantastic four is marvels first family. It was their first superhero team for the marvel universe. Stan Lee has also stated that Doctor Doom is one favorite villains he’s ever created.

I'm glad you noticed STAN LEE'S cameo. The character he portrayed is Stan's creation from the FIRST FF comic, and THE FANTASTIC FOUR is his first MARVEL CHARACTERS that began THE MARVEL MYTHOLOGY.
Reed is always trying to stretch himself too thin - becomes Elastic. Johnny is a hothead - becomes Fire. Sue feels unseen - becomes Invisible. Ben is as solid as a rock - becomes rock. Doom is hard and cold - becomes Steel.
My biggest complaint about this movie is the final fight. It feels like they could only afford to rent a TV show's street corner and it feels like its just a fight between Doom and the FF thats putting people in danger. There's no obvious danger to anyone innocent, and the FF aren't obviously the heroes.
Man this one had so many issues but was so so close to being a home run. Still VERY fun though!

this movie is great but how they handled Doctor Doom always made me dissapointed. in the comics, Doom already runs an entire nation and is a world-level threat, but this movie made him an angry buisnessman. he also doesn't have superpowers, he's just really smart and studied both science and magic. i feel giving him powers ruins the whole vibe Doom is meant to have. still, this Doom is WAY better than the one from the 2015 movie.

Yeah, maybe this is semantical, but I have to disagree with the sentiment. "I can blast energy from my fingers, but it's not a superpower because it's _magic"_ doesn't quite strike true with me.
But yeah, I'd say Dr. Doom is a lot like an Anti-Villain (opposite of anti-hero) version of Dr. Strange - and while I still like this Dr. Doom as well, the version isn't very comic-book accurate.
The ever loving blue eyed thing Benjamin Jacob Grimm and the human torch have always been great comic relief

The Incredibles were inspired by the Fantastic Four, and have similar powers. When the FF were created, the inspirations for their powers were the 4 elements- Ben is earth, Johnny is fire, Sue is air, and Reed is water.

In the world of comics The Fantastic Four are royalty. Unfortunately, the first family of Marvel have never quite had a movie treatment that captures that spirit.
The FF are a great place to start one's journey into Marvel. They are OG Marvel and have always been the original gate way book for the cosmic universe. Doom is my favorite non-mutant Marvel baddie. I used to watch the old 70s cartoon when I was a little kid. Always had a special place in my heart for fellow Brooklynite, Ben Grimm. The movie isn't great but Doom's origin aside, at least it respects the IP (at least more so than Phase Bore of the MCU).
The scene where reed altered his jaw line, there is an alternate version of the scene where he changes his face into wolverines face.
They made an awful reboot in 2015 also called Fantastic Four, but then when Disney bought Fox in 2019 the rights for the franchise are back with Marvel so now we're getting an MCU Fantastic Four movie called *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* in July 2025 as the first movie of phase 6.
Addie, I'm so glad that you enjoyed Fantastic Four (2005) because this movie was a part of my childhood growing up. This was my introduction to Chris Evans as well. I used to have the Burger King kids meal toys for Susan Storm/Invisible Woman & Ben Grimm/The Thing. See you soon for Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007).
This movie strikes such a fun tone! My only real complaint is that the finale of the climactic battle when all 4 of them are finally battling Dr. Doom together is just oh so short. It's cool to see Reed finally doing some of his more out-there stretchy movies, but the whole fight is just too brief.
The incredibles was actually made as a homage to the Fantastic 4

Reed and Sue Marry in the comics. Ben and Alicia get married eventually as well. Definitely worth a read if you hapen to have any digital comics apps on your phone or laptop. I like Reed and Sue, but Ben and Alicia have something really special.
Also, the wedding issues usually have cameos from other Marvel heroes. Spidey, Cap, Iron Man, the rest of the Avengers show up, I think Logan and a few X-Men show up, the ladies and female heroes have a bachelorette party with the men vice versa, its a lot of high shenanigans and fun to read!
It's been a long time since I've seen this movie. Used to love the cartoon when I was a kid. This was pretty fun. Back when Marvel wasn't rapidly releasing movies yet. CGI was still coming into its own too, at this point.

The Silver Surfer was my favorite when I was a kid, and I was excited to hear about his appearance in next film with these characters.
I keep hoping for the Surfer to return somehow in the MCU, but I know it’s unlikely.
Fantastic Five, with Addie the Magnificent
I remember hating this in theaters because the co-creator of Twin Peaks and the writer of GoldenEye wrote this movie and I was so disappointed lol. But it’s become a guilty pleasure of mine over the years
I would've liked this movie a lot more if they didn't mess up Doom.
Dr. Doom is maybe the best villain Marvel has ever had and every movie so far has screwed him up.
These movies weren't as bad as people made them out to be. The only fault was how the handled the second one and honestly had it come out a few years later it probably would have been more faithful. Sadly, these movies came around a time where studios were still hesitant about going full comic book and honestly were quite resentful. Wasn't till Dark Knight and Iron Man that things got better after comic book movies hit a bit of a rut between 2004 and 2007 with many lukewarm or straight up bad sequels, like Spider-Man 3, Blade Trinity, X-Men Last Stand.
Gorgeous. The latest version of The Four is due out soon, but this I think is the best to date.
Little Marvel 101. Dr. Doom does not have powers per se. He is a genus and is a leader of his own country. He has super armor on par with Iron Man and knows sorcery enough to be a challenge for Dr. Strange. So super science and magic.

The fantastic 4 is my favorite Marvel team, i love them so much ❤ this movie was my introduction to them before the comics so i can forgive some issues, specially Doom 😅

Marvel almost went bankrupt in the 90s. So they sold the movie rights to their most popular characters. Sony bought Spider-Man. Fox bought X-men and Fantastic Four. It's worth noting that the FF was more popular valuable than the Avengers at the time.
But it's been hard to make a faithful adaptation. Ironically The Incredibles is probably the best FF movie even though it isn't technically an FF movie.

Yes Addie. Violet from The Incredibles is just a repeat of Sue Storm... and Elastigirl is Mr. Fantastic. Also Frozone is just Iceman (Bobby Drake) and Dash is Quicksilver/The Flash. Mr. Incredible has too many analogue in comics to count. But nearly all comic book characters have a "copy" in another franchise, so it's not uncommon.
of the 3 Fantastic 4 movies, I think this one is the best.

Fan4stic the reboot of this franchise had an interesting concept, but Fox cut the budget during filming and the ending is a mess.

People give this movie grief, but it's actually one of the best, most accurate superhero movies made, considering it was made pre-MCU, when everyone was still unsure what a comic-accurate Marvel superhero movie should be, with only the Raimi Spider-Man movies to judge by.
I'd even venture to say this is better than the first Spider-Man, which imo suffered a tiny bit from Raimi's campy style.
They have to give invisible people another power since invisibility isn't really great in an action situation. If you're in a fight, what good is being invisible? So yes, that's why Violet also had it. It's great if you're a spy, but an action hero? Not so much.

Is it underrated is the question I think. I saw this when I was young and was familiar the characters. I didn't really care about these characters. I thought they were cute idea and like the way they were drawn. My mother actually pushed these on me at age five. The reason she said was she grew up on Fantastic Four as well Wonder Woman and the Hulk comic books and that she was a nerd in school. According to her this film encapsulated the feel of those old comic books. I went and read a few and agree. Then I thought about a worldwide film and how it has to appeal to a broad audience and particularly adults. People who actually subscribe to and read comic books only ever constitute a tiny fraction of that worldwide viewing audience so filmmakers can't focus on catering to them. Noting Doom, his abilities, are not a mirror of the comics. But his attitude is.
That having been said this was an interesting and fresh idea in it's day where it's just commonplace now. The actors all performed well and under the circumstances, like working in a big foam costume for example and most were popular at the time. Alba, Chikis and Evans, mums the word to you here, were beloved and are all well known for these roles to date. The story structure is well composed and engaging as is the script and dialogue. I didn't stand up and go do the dishes when I watched it. And it was well received.
The talk is whether this pays proper to the comics but really that means the original comics, the Stan Lee and Jack Kirby from 1961. Well it kind of does but that wasn't their job. Not a lot of people even including comic book subscribers were reading the Fantastic Four comics from the 1960's in 2005. More most were reading none and had never even seen a Fantastic Four cartoon. Also if you go look at those comics? Well there is a saying about how things look good on paper but do not translate to film. Given the track record I think that is a common issue with this franchise and a concern about the upcoming film. As just a film though I think it did a fine job.
Could have been better? With a different direction I think so. There was a remake of the Lost In Space series set to film in 1998 that if you ask me was actually the perfect model for a Fantastic Four movie. Most especially the big concepts and travelling to amazing worlds and discovery all while maintaining the family element and competing with an egomaniacal, brilliant antagonist. The science fiction is what was missing here. Was this terrible though? No. I will bet you dollar bin DVD's still sell of it to this day. And it is still a requested reaction video albeit right now for certain reasons I don't want to spoil. And otherwise at least Alba is still renowned for her role in this one.

This is one of my favorite marvel films, I thought the casting was almost perfect. Chris Evans was good as Johnny storm but I still think he would have been perfect as Hawkeye
This movie was very underrated but was still fun to watch. I really felt sorry for Ben. His girlfriend is very much like women today. The one he meets is far superior. The movie was very much comic book style.

I really liked this movie, and also the second one. The only "bad" part for me in the second was how they portraid Galactus, that was really not good, but else .. they are just like the comics were, just a bit campy and fun. But at the time when they came out a lot people were hyped from Batman i think, and wanted everything to be "dark and gritty" and kinda pseude realistic and so they hated on these movies that were more like .. comics .. colorfuly, a bit goofy and more lighthearted fun.
After all these comics were also made for kids that were maybe 12-15 years old, and i will never understand when people who now are older suddenly want the movies to be stuff that only 18+ guys can watch.

Thanks Addie - this movie is a little too cheesy at some points, but it's a pretty good intro to the FF. The weakest actor was Doom - he's just not menacing enough.
This movie isn't a bad movie, but it is a bad version of the Fantastic Four, and especially of Doctor Doom. The only comic book accurate character was Human Torch / Johnny Storm from the early years.
Victor Von Doom and Reed met st the State University where they were rivals in every science class they took. Reed also met Sue and Ben there as well.
This movie portrays Doom as a run of the mill villian. And that's where fans of the comics really ha e issue. Doctor Doom is one of the greatest villians in all of the Marvel Universe. Like Reed he's a high level genius, but Doom combines that with the fiercest Will on Earth. He's diabolical but patient.

You just have to watch ether Daredevil 2003 or Elektra 2005 and you should be good to go.
It doesn’t have anything to do with Deadpool but if you liked John Wick you should like Peppermint 2018.
