The super-long trailer was made to show off the huge Importal Empires campaign map's features, where all the factions you've seen are on the entire map. Ingame it is in fact really huge, you start on a specific location of the map depending on which faction/faction leader you're playing as, so it's interesting to see (for people who are already in the know) where each leader/faction will start. It's more like an overview video than a pure marketing trailer imo.

I'm impressed that you picked up on that quality drop in some of the Warhammer III trailers! Around that time the parent company of Creative Assembly, SEGA made a massive financial bet on a Battle Royale game akin to Fortnite. The development of that game was an unmitigated disaster that cost the studio upwards of $100 million in losses and led to severe financial strain on the budgets and development of all of their subsidiary studios. Unfortunately that really seems to show for a period in those Warhammer III trailers despite the game and gameplay remaining relatively strong.

First of all this guy has done his research and knew a lot in advance, don't be mistaken.
Ironically when he called redemption, was when they were struggling the most (shadows of change). I personally think the chaos trailers from warhammer 3 were some of the best ones and not at all worse. Cathay and Kislev centered trailers rightfully were bad, but I blame that more on the poor execution of those factions. Champions of chaos combined was really good and would've closed the gap of lackluster content, but it's not included.

@@berendvanbeerschot1472 To be fair, the SoC trailer was decent, but the actual DLC didn't live up to it - heck, the DLC heavily foreshadows a direct conflict between the Changeling and the other other two lords, which never actually happens in the DLC (all of them have their completely separate campaigns pretty much).
Though I'd say it probably also makes a difference if y0u are or aren't a TW player on how you rate the individual trailers because showing off the new units tends to be a big plus for players (for obvious reasons).

@penial_smasher_500 most of the time they'd use someone in house. Makes sense and saves money. If a game does require additional marketing needs, they sometimes out source it. I've seen that with indie studios but they'd do a full marketing campaign, not just the trailer.
Best thing to do would be to reach out to the studios directly. Find the in-house team members. Maybe become fans of their work via social media channels. Strike up conversations and don't forget about LinkedIn.

The long, one-shot "trailer" that you watched (and hated) wasn't really a trailer, per se, but a full campaign map reveal. It was riveting for fans of the game, because it showed both the extent of the new Immortal Empires map as well as many new starting positions for new and old factions alike. Not the most riveting for newcomers to the series, who, understandably, don't know what they're really looking at.

What i find really interesting is your reaction to the lackluster trailers for Total War Warhammer 3. At that point in the lifespan of the game, the developers for the game were the ones who made the base game for the first and second games, having next to no interaction with the game as it evolved during it's 8 or so year lifespan . After some backlash from the community around questionable design choices. The developers from Total War Warhammer 2's dlc cycle came in and took over, and the trailers took a different approach around the same time. Part of the changing nature of the trailers is due to the content of the pack they're selling. The rivalry ones are selling a DLC pack where you get those two characters and the units that feature in it to add on to their races. The ones that show a single faction are usually showing something that's either in the base game or a new race pack.
There are three "blood for the blood god" trailers because, for daft reasons, they offer blood and extra violent animations as a separate download pack and they did one for each game (though you only need one and it applies to all three).

Ok, a few things to mention, as there were some misunderstandings:
    1) The person who put the compilation together didn't do a particularly good job, as a few were missing, and he added in some stuff that didn't really have a place in such a video, mainly - the long tour around the TWW3 map, which you didn't like. No surprises there... because it wasn't a trailer, plain and simple, that's why it killed the flow of the whole thing, and it wasn't supposed to be there in the first place.
    2) You didn't like some of the short ones among the 4 Champions of Chaos videos. Fair enough, however, the guy who made the video dropped the ball again, as there is a proper trailer for the DLC that combines all four of the short ones, and it has an awesome ending.
    3) Finally, if you are thinking of picking up the game - yes, all the DLC's combined cost a ton of bank, but if you buy only TWW3, you already get access to the combined map of the three games, get a feel for it, and then you can just pick up bits and pieces that you really want.

WH2 had loads of them by the end, WH3 has only had 2 so far. All WH2 base game factions had their own trailer focussing on them as well but there weren't so many.

I'm usually a lurker, but I wrote a huge post helping explain a lot about the franchise and trailers. I'm a huge fan of the entire Total War franchise, including the Warhammer games, so hopefully I can help explain some things about it! I actually commented on your last video about how I wanted you to react to these, so when I saw your community post about it, I immediately became a member to get that early access on it.
Warhammer Fantasy has a loooot of factions as you saw here. And within those factions, they all have quite a lot of legendary figures that you play as, whether that's Karl Franz of the Empire, or Malus Darkblade for the Dark Elves. So each DLC focuses on either introducing a new faction, such as with the Wood Elves, Tomb Kings, Vampire Coast, etc, or showing off the new legendary lords that you play as. The latter is more prominent with Warhammer 2, where you saw that titan build up between the two characters. The lords DLC as they're called introduces two new lords and new units for that faction, so they have to show off the new units alongside building up those characters. At base launch, the game was limited to only the four base factions of High Elves, Dark Elves, Lizardmen, and Skaven, but Mortal Empires took the map from Warhammer 1 and combined the two together.
For Warhammer 3, while it's my personal favorite game, many people did not enjoy it because of various bugs and other problems at launch. People also didn't enjoy the story campaign, and so they were waiting for the Immortal Empires to launch, which took the maps from Warhammer 1 and 2 and combined it together. The big gameplay trailer that made you feel so exhausted was for Immortal Empires, showing off just how massive the map was and what factions were in each region so you knew what to expect. It was meant for you to go "okay, I want to play as Grand Cathay, so what can I expect to see there?" But the game started off with 7 total factions: Kislev (the Russian/Polish faction), Grand Cathay (the Chinese faction), the 4 individual Chaos Gods, and Chaos Undivided. Kislev and Grand Cathay were both completely original; while the developers had the help from Games Workshop, they had to completely make a roster for them and come up with general themes for them (the same thing happened with the Vampire Coast, actually). So they had to show off each faction separately to give them their time in the sun. The same can be said for the Champions of Chaos, which introduced 4 new Chaos Champions for the DLC for the Warriors of Chaos faction. Plus there's far more gameplay trailers than in-engine/cinematic ones, because the game introduced many new locations that we (as fans) have never gone before, or there's very little information about, to help explain why there's so many trailers in open fields rather than in tighter areas. It's all to help show off these factions, their aesthetics, and help with world building. For example, Grand Cathay is only mentioned in lore, so they had to build them up from scratch using Chinese and Asian mythology. You were also going into the realms of each Chaos god, which, while we have heard about these locations before, we have never seen or gone to them in any games before. The Brass Citadel of Khorne, the Gardens of Nurgle, the Crystal Labyrinth of Tzeentch, and the Circles of Seduction of Slaanesh, fans were incredibly curious to see how these places would look in game.
However, it's funny that you asked if the series had problems, because that actually came with Shadows of Change, where you asked that question. The DLC had to be raised up in price because of global inflation, and because of Warhammer 3 having so many factions, they're doing these lord packs in groups of 3 rather than 2. So with Shadows of Change, you have a new Kislev, Grand Cathay, and Tzeentch lord. But with that, many people felt like they weren't getting as much as in the past, the new lords felt too powerful so there was some power creep/pay to win complaints, and with a huge PR failure from the developers, it caused massive outrage amongst the fans. Thrones of Decay had to be delayed while the developers released a free expansion/patch for Shadows of Change to make it better for the fans that nearly doubled it's size, and since then they had been working on making their expansions better as well as having more free things, such as with Harald Hammerstorm. That's why you also noticed that the Thrones of Decay trailer wasn't as good, because a lot more time was being put into the development of all the new units for the expansion and they had to help show off all of these new toys that you would be getting. The Empire and Dwarves were especially two factions that people have been wanting reworks for, so you noticed a lot more time was spent showing off their units rather than the new Nurgle ones. Like you said, it's more of showing off all the brand new toys you get rather than an overall story.
With all that said, I would still love for you to take a look at Total War: Three Kingdoms in the future. Way less trailers, first of all. It has a lot more voice overs and overall storytelling and titan building as well. It's based off of the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history, which is heavily romanticized and you can see the characters in other games like Dynasty Warriors. There's also a ton of really cool cultural and history-related things in there, such as the use of poems from the historical figures themselves for the lyrics of the background music! I don't want to spoil too much about these trailers as I do enjoy watching you go into them blind, but I do recommend these next if you want some more Total War. It even came out around the same time as Warhammer 2, if you need more incentive for what to expect with these.

@@kaizammit I guess that depends on what you'd want out of a campaign 😄It's much more about a "sandbox" experience, so you pick a faction and you're trying to take over the world through conquest or diplomacy. The campaign part of it comes from what happens to you during it, the ways you achieve your greatest victories or suffer your worst losses. It's much more player driven and about what stories you create from playing! You can think of it like other grand strategy or 4X games like Civilization. But Warhammer 2 and 3 both have a more "story" focused campaign, though they just have 2D art cutscenes rather than animated ones. The campaigns aren't anything like Halo or Gears of War, though, and it's still very much player driven in how you succeed in the campaign. I would say most people enjoy the more sandbox campaigns though, as most people enjoy interacting (and playing) with all the various factions and don't enjoy the timed aspect that the other campaigns have. Let me break down each campaign though for you:
Warhammer 1 is a complete sandbox campaign pretty much.
Warhammer 2 has two campaigns: the Vortex and the Mortal Empires. The Mortal Empires campaign is a sandbox experience again; you can pick any faction from Warhammer 1 and 2, and try to take over the world once again! With the Vortex, basically the base game factions (High Elves, Dark Elves, Lizardmen, and Skaven) are all trying to corrupt this magical vortex for their own means. Tomb Kings and Vampire Coast have their own objectives though. The Tomb Kings are trying to get the Black Books of Nagash, the first Necromancer, and use them to open up the Black Pyramid of Nagash to take over the world.
Warhammer 3 has three campaigns actually: the tutorial campaign, the Chaos Realms, and the Immortal Empires. The Immortal Empires is once again, that big sandbox mode that takes Warhammer 1, 2, and 3 and combines them all together. The Chaos Realms is the more story focused one for Warhammer 3, where you have to go into each realm of Chaos to help (or kill) the bear god Ursun. The tutorial campaign actually follows the rise of the Daemon Prince, which you saw the trailer for! He was the guy that changed appearances and had the metal song playing in the background.
But if you buy Warhammer 3, you can purchase all the previous factions as DLC, or just the ones that you want to play as! So if you want to play just as the Tomb Kings, you can buy that expansion and play as them in the Immortal Empires campaign 😄

@@kaizammit All the DLC factions you buy for 2 will carry over into 3 for their global campaign which includes literally every single faction you've seen in the trailers. The campaigns are fairly story light - a bit like playing Civ with some overarching goals depending on which faction leader you chose. Each "race" can have several factions, so there's several ratmen leaders you can play that each have a different starting location and campaign goals, for example.

    • @r4tt583
      @r4tt583 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

@@kaizammit generally, to play the BIG map of every single thing you saw (and more) you play game 3. basically the games stack. So when game 2 came out the map of 2 combined with 1 and 3 with 2 and 1 forming one massive map with everything on it. The thing is tho is that games 1 and 2 don't get updates while 3 gets everything and is up to date. So if you want to play the Tomb Kings (the Egyptian faction) you would buy game 3 and the DLC from game 2 (I'm actually not 100% on this because I don't know if you need game 2 or not but I think it would tell you if you try to use tomb kings without getting the DLC for it in game 3). You can then play the game 2 DLC IN game 3. This isn't the case with all factions though since something like the dwarfs who are a game 1 race you would need to own game 3 and 1. Some units are also locked behind DLC like the air ships from the last trailer. So technically if you want to play the FULL faction you would want game 3, the game the faction you want to play is in, and the DLC for said faction if it has any (Tomb kings don't have any other DLC other than the one they come in, but something like the woodelves have 2 dlcs, one with the "race" and one with some extra fun toys + a new lord/faction for them)
its a bit weird and pretty hard to get into which is why they made the full map free in game 3 instead of needing you to buy the other 2 games since that would mean you would need like 180$ just to play the big map. (this way you only need game 3)
So to summarize again because i rambled, If you want to play Tomb Kings i would sudjest getting warhammer 3 since that's the best version of the GAME (mechanics visuals map faction balance etc). The load up the game and try playing the immortal empires campaign as the Tomb kings. At this point one of 2 things will happen. 1. the game will tell you you don't have that DLC and to go get that DLC (this is the good choice since you don't need game 2) then just go get the tomb kings DLC and you're good to go. 2. the game will tell you you need Warhammer 2 and the DLC. If this happens my sudjestion would be to look for some game keys or wait for a sale for game 2. Its generally like 60-80% off during sales since it adds a bunch of stuff for game 3 and kind of functions like a DLC. Once you get game 2 you can get the tomb kings DLC and you're 100% good to go. but I'm not even sure you need to do that you might just be good by getting the DLC but i would sudjest first downloading game 3 and checking if that's the case. in the mean time you can play around with game 3 and learn total war :)

I want to add that I've been a long time fan and player of the Total War series. As far as my knowledge goes, the in game cinematics have always been a highlight for the series. Every time they released a trailer or teaser, they always blew me away. Like the one that went around the entire map, it really did show basically the entire in game map.

The team from 2 were brought over to work on 3 after it launched, which is why the style fluctuates a bit. man it's been 9 or so years as i saw first trailers, man that was A W E S O M E. Even now, given bigger and better trailers i feel those goosebumps again. I'm a big Total War fan, and warhammer series just amazed me so much, i still remember the hype and anticipation. Total Joy.

    • @IqweoR
      @IqweoR หลายเดือนก่อน

and i can tell you why this was hype. When i got into warhammer 40k fantasy was dying, they made end times and Age of Sigmar already, literally no people played tabletop (only total fans) Then they completely stopping releasing tabletop, and there were only occasional PC games found on the internet about warhammer fantasy. Some of them were reasonably good, but most of them were shitty, and some were garbage, no less. But i didn't come at any masterpiece per se (also if anyone knows really good warhammer fantasy games other than total war ones, please recommend me). So we got: really fucking good studio (Games Workshop) that makes warhammer in multiple settings and they are both fantastic, and by the time i was total war fan like totally (pun intended), and i knew that The Creative Assembly was really fucking good at making their total war games too. They all, at the time, were at least "reasonably good" but amount of masterpieces is big. And I already knew that they like modding, they endorse it. And when i heard that "Total war will get a shift in reality" or something along the lines, we geniunely thought it was Lord of the Rings or something like that, that is more classic and "alive". And we had LoTR mods for TW: Rome, so it was purely logical to conclude that it would not "shift reality" this much. I remember announcement which i read in disbelief, was thinking like "what were they thinking", then i remembered that its "really fucking good studio" and started believing in them, then i watched first trailer and it was a BLAST. Man those are one of my core memories. When i saw hero-units, i didn't know what to think, "how would the do them, they would just get shot by the arrow, don't they?" - i didn't know how much they were shifting perspective with this one. And then i saw magic and it was "i'm done, if thiss won't become the best game of my life - i'm not me". First game was really enjoyable, but it started to get uncomfortable for some reason. Then i've heard that i'm not alone, and CA really tried to fix some things and shake things up. Modding wasn't here yet on the first day i think, that added to the uncertainty of the new series, but i really liked it, despite all. I enjoyed smashing as orks, raising undead and there was already so much that i touched main campaign only once, every time playing as some other race. Then there were second game. I didn't expect much, was ready that it will be disappointment. But i, again, forgor, that CA is GOAT at this type of games (at lease they were). And they released it. Main campaign again for 1-2 times, (that will happen again in the third game), but mainly it's starting to get boring, even when trying new races, and then they expanded to Mortal Empires. THIS WAS HYPE. No goal, but so much to do. Old total war style campaign where you have set of missions, but there's nothing stopping or punishing you for NOT doing them. And they've done everything right, from placing factions, to the sheer size of the available world. And then trailer for the third game. This bought me, i've watched all demo matches, and after release even with shitty campaing i played it for hours and hours non-stop. This has finally become the game of my life. Mortal Empires is still good, but the modding scene in wh3 is just sprawling, i really enjoy replayability even without mods, but with them - it's a new level
TL;DR; Some parts of the story are about the inevitable problems when company tries 90 degrees turn and develops something totally new. But mainly it was real joy and hype, it was really a journey, one can say. Sometimes even emotional rollercoaster.

"they are making it look enormous!" thats because it is. The campaign map in total war warhammer 3 is currently so big and has so many factions that you realistically will never meet more than 40% of the factions that are on the map in one playthrough. If some faction on the other end of the map declares war on you, you will likely never see them because the distance is just too big. It is MASSIVE.
As for your question of factions: yes, all the factions that were available in the earlier titles of the series are available, however you still need to have the previous games AND buy all the dlc factions to have access to them. It's honestly whats kept this game so small, as joining in as a new player you will be greeted with a massive bill if you want everything. Ofc, you can wait for giveaways and sales and buy it little by little, but it usually just scares off many potential new players. It's a bit of a shame because the game has a thriving and helpful community (even though it is very small).

    • @azeon562
      @azeon562 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Game 3 significantly improves that dynamic by making the long-asked-for decision to make Immortal Empires accessible with just the purchase of game 3. You don't need to own all 3 games to play on the map with all the factions, and it helps new players get their foot through the door with only the base game buy. There is still a tremendous amount of content locked behind a large sum of cash, but at least they can take a solid look at the game and all it's factions and decide on any specific ones they would like to pick up, rather than needing to blindly purchase several games + DLCs before even knowing if they wanted to properly invest like in WH2.

Both of which I believe were some of CA's best cinematic works. Shogun 2 is really old but has aged extremely well. Three kingdoms I believe has that Total War Warhammer 2 energy that you were missing after the 3rd entry. As always, thanks again for your great insights into the cinematic world.

If you want to do a sort of case study on this I would recommend talking to some content creators who focus on this game, especially Loremaster of Sotek. He's a great fan of the series since launch and often talks with the devs behind the scenes so he could really tell you some stuff from what the developers and art direction were thinking, as well as how the game was doing at certain times. Plus I think he would love nothing more than talk about it.

The thing about Warhammer Fantasy I really love is that they take real world inspiration translate it into a vast fantasy setting and turn everything to 11, and total war really let me play and enjoy them all..
Wanna play as fantasy glorified brits, boom high elves
or as psychotic Americans obsessed with their whatever, boom dark elves…
sometimes you fancy china, et voila grand cathay, or a medley of fantasy slavic people, we’ve got kislev for ya…
Roleplaying as Holy Roman Empire ? Sure here is The Empire of Men, or maybe a bit weird undead eastern cousin, gotcha with Vampire Counts…
Fancy a fantasy scandi flick ? We’ve got Norsca and their crazy pillaging culture, but what about the glory of ancient egypt ? Tomb King is right there on the desert.
Hate Egypt and want to Launch a crusade to take back fantasy Jerusalem ? Bretonnian crusader kinda let you do that, or you rather eat croissant and onion soup in feudal France ? Come to mainland Bretonnia, you got to tax your peasants to infinity there lol
What about ancient mid and south american cultures ? We’ve got them lizard people across the great ocean… The Fantasy Spain, Italy, and Portugal ? How about the infamous Border Princes… Middle East you said ? Well because CA kinda being a stingy on giving us Araby, we’ve got Waaghh! of everlasting conflict with the Orcs instead on that part of the world…
Oh you said fantasy India, Japanese and South East Asian mash up ? Well if CA wants to make smart decision, we should get Kingdom of Ind, Kuresh, and Nippon in the future… legend says there are Snake people lurking in the ancient jungle of fantasy Thailand mate.
And at last there are Demons if you fancy them. See what a game with rich lore, thats why I love it

Wow, it was nostalgic seeing some of these again with your fresh perspective. You called so many things so well too. There was a change in direction for W3, and the drop in quality was happening along with a troubled launch. The immortal empires release trailer was the start of them dragging it back up to W2 levels in both cinematics and gameplay. Also, the DLC format of W1 & W2 (two lords per DLC) really leant itself to straightforward opposition story telling/world building.
PS: I don't know why you were given the W3 IE informational location video along with the cinematics. You really had to know all three games to get much value out of that.

5:34 - I believe that is a Demon Prince of Tzeentch, they look like giant, humanoid vultures with Egyptian-esque themes.
26:47 - "Blood For The Blood God" are the blood and gore updates, also the battlecry of Khornate soldiers, "Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Skull Throne!"
38:30 - That is Malekith, he is a dark elf. He is wearing ceremonial armor that is fused to his skin via fire, thanks to a failed ritual/test because of his over-eagerness.
43:40 - Three factions. Skaven, Dark Elves and Lizardmen.
45:55 - That was the blood and gore update again, the blood was the focus, not really the heroes, so it did it's job I believe.
46:34 - Khaine is an Elven god, he is also in 40K as one of the Eldar's surviving gods.
    1:14:40 - Tzeentch chaos faction.
1:35:18 - This massive map belongs to the Immortal Empires campaign, which is all maps and factions from all three games, combined into one grand campaign.
1:50:30 - That tiger bird is one of the most powerful griffons in Warhammer Fantasy, raised by it's rider, Emperor Karl Franz. It's name is Deathclaw.
Creative Assembly was/is struggling with Total Warhammer 3; Some kind of background changes took place. They started charging higher prices for less content, which pissed off quite a few in the fanbase. I'm sure there's more info, but that's all I know.

For a previous example, the new rat characters Vs the introduction of the Egyptian group of factions) and had 4 separate trailers rather than the previous single trailer for 2 rival factions.

About factions, there are: TW:WH1: Empire (men), Orcs and Goblins, Vampires and Dwarfs, then added Beastmen, Wood Elves, Bretonnia (french) and Norsca. Then in TW:WH2 we start with Dark Elves (the Vader guy), High Elves and Lizardmen and on top of that Skavens (rat with technology), then added Tomb Kings of Khemri and Vampire Coast. And in TW:WH3 we have Kislev (Poland, Russia), Cathay (China) and 5 Chaos Deamons faction: Khorne (rage, red), Nurgle (filth, green), Slaanesh (lust, purple) and Tzeenth (deceit, blue) and Deamon Prince (chaos undivided), then added Ogre Kingdoms. Blood for the Blood God is an DLC adding blood to the game. Four Champions of Chaos were in one DLC. At the end comes Chaos Dwarfs. And most of the "versus" trailers were for DLC of two fighting characters. Lastly, in game you just don't play race but a specific Lord - for example Empire main hero is the Emperor Karl Frans - the guy with Great Hammer, flying on Griffon, the Deathclaw. Warhammer and Warhammer 40k are great games and even grater settings. For Sigmar!

The Thrones of Decay trailer bein' a "throwing all your toys in" trailer is probably as a direct response to the reception of Shadows of Change, where Shadows of Change came with a hike-up in price while having less over-all content in it.
ToD focused a lot on having more content and the trailer made sure to show off that content, so yeah, throwing all the toys in. It also came with some *very* anticipated units and characters.
