Sure this one doesn’t have the optional package? Or, is the sunroof standard?
That's part of the option package. We list the price as "starting". Price as you see it here with the Sunroof, 10-way power seat and Harmon Kardon Audio ($2,270) is $35,560 including destination ($1,295)
@@drivingsportsnot worth it, I just bought a 24 Outback Wilderness with option 22 pkg (Nav,Roof,HK) for $39995.00 way more car for just a bit more $$
@@Jay-td5krWell, that is your opinion. You paid more, so you got more. Some don't want to even have what you dished out for. Let lone everything that was listed here. $30K is about on par with what I think this thing is worth. - the the optional packages.
great reply! @@WW-wf8tu
@@WW-wf8tu You can get the Forester base for under $30k LOL. Looking at the Forester Wilderness at a local dealer with sticker price of $38k.
I own a 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness which I love, yet I would actually love to see a video with the three Wilderness editions going head-to-head. Be great to see the pros and cons of all three and see where each benefit more than the others.
Agree!
Am looking for a new car and was hoping he had this video I like the look of the Crosstrek more but the Outback seems to have more features that I would like
I love how the Wilderness trim actually makes a difference its not just a badge and no real difference.
I agree, just the added ground clearance makes it look better too. Course I guess you could buy a base model and put a lift on it, but you don't get some of the other Wilderness stuff by doing so LOL. I looked at a Forester Wilderness last weekend, kind of want one, my bank account however says absolutely not LOL...couldn't afford the ridiculous payments on a new vehicle and the ridiculous interest rates.
What off road trim doesn’t now a days? If anything Subaru did the least amount of work to differentiate between their road counter parts. Whereas other companies change transmissions or even totally different off road programs ie. ivtm4 and the like.
@@MrMikeDao Actually most other comapnies don't change anything, they just put stickers on to make you feel better about overpaying for their "offroad" car....Toyota is a great example, they've put TRD stickers on just about every model and TRD has nothing to really do with offroading in the sense that most people think....and absolutely doesn't justify the additional cost of the vehicle, makes the ride rougher by adding the worst shocks they could manage to find....
Wrong! Outback and Forester have different cvt gear ratio this make whole different story. I know we can do lift, skid plate, shocks, wheels and tires but nobody can touch transmission
@@Kodazot The CVT in the Wilderness models is regeared, or just the differentials? Thought it was some of both if I'm not mistaken.
Subaru and Driving Sports TV? Let's Go!!!
Looking forward to the winter snow content with this car. Congrats on getting a long term loaner.
Me too.
Me three
I’ve recently bought 2.0 L Crosstrek for my wife and after owning lots of cars from Merc to Volvo I have to admit that this is THE MOST SHARP AND FUN CAR to drive on different terrain here in Ukraine!
How are you guys doing over there?
Of all the Wilderness products, this is the one I was most excited for coverage of. Eagerly awaiting more of your long-term coverage!
Love how Subaru went wilderness for the crosstrek. I have a forester wilderness and I love it. Took it to a “4x4 only” road and got a great camping spot. There were only Jeeps on the road, felt so good to get the same spot but saving 20-30k.
I've had the Crosstrek Wilderness for nearly a week and I absolutely love it!!! Mines in the Lithium Red which looks wayyyyy better in person than on the online configurator. Will be taking it on my road trip to the grand canyon in a few weeks! Keep up the great work!
I thought you were going to say or taking it on some nasty dirt road riding trip 😅😉
EXCELLENT. Been looking forward to Driving Sports TV's take on this. You do the BEST in-depth videos on these off roading/soft roading friendly crossovers.
I'm so happy the Wilderness Crosstrek is finally here and it lives up to expectations! Heavy snow winters in a city environment are going to be so much easier.
After watching this video, along with some others, my wife is considering that vehicle for her next buy. It's not a dedicated off-roader, and for people like us who work and occasionally venture out on weekend trips, a dedicated off-roader isn't necessary. We need something that can be driven with great safety and comfort from Monday through Friday on pavement, and that can handle gravel, sand, and mud on off-pavement terrain during the weekends. Subaru really shines in this regard. To my knowledge, no other vehicles meet these requirements. For your information, it's been three months since I acquired my '23 Forester Sports, and I'm absolutely in love with it. My kids compare the spaciousness of the passenger area to their bedroom, just to give an idea of the ample space available in the rear. Thanks, Ryan, for creating such realistic videos that aid in our decision-making process.
FWIW I had similar requirements and ended up getting a Bronco Sport, specifically the Badlands trim. This channel has some good videos with it as well.
Ryan has one of the best jobs in the world.
Thanks!….been waiting for this from you! Went ahead and ordered one last week.
Great initial review,Ryan. Looking forward to the next few months!
Way to go Ryan - Awesome review!! It was clear you were just having too much fun and that speaks volumes given that you drive so many cars/trucks. Your closer - "I think I love it" - says it all! Taking delivery of MY Alpine Green CTW this week!
Always love your videos. Short, details and unbiased.
Got a 2023 Forester Wilderness after watching your reviews. Outstanding channel and outstanding vehicle. Absolutely love all the little things Subaru did to the Wilderness models.
Ive watched your channel for years but never commented before. You quality has been insane over the last few years. These shots are stellar
Great initial review, excited to see more as you get test it! I will be testing mine as soon as it gets here, I managed to get an allocated one that matched what I wanted.
Been waiting for this one too! Crosstrek has a surprisingly capable crossover for years, interested to see what extra performance Subaru squeezes out of it with the Wilderness trim.
Killer review. Looking forward to seeing one at your course!!
Can't Wait to see you put it through your course!
Reminds me of the 1984 Subaru wagon I had back in college. Tons of plastic cladding and a hoot to drive off-road. Great review! It’s on the top of my list for a future car.
Yes! I've been waiting for this review!
I have the 24 Crosstrek Sport (your review clinched the deal) with one size larger Falken Wildpeak AT’s, it’s no Wilderness but I think it will be a plenty good Swiss Army knife for what I do. The Wilderness has more changes from the Sport & Limited than I thought, great review as usual.
Love all your videos but especially your Subaru videos.
Nice! I have a Subaru Forester Wilderness and I love it!! Welcome to wilderness family crosstrek!
The review I've been waiting for.
I absolutely love these reviews!
Picked mine up last week. Loving every minute of it. Lithium Red Pearl.
Didn't like the red in the pictures, but it's amazing in person. Great choice!
That shot at 9:44 is utterly breathtaking! I live in Chicago, and I think our skyline is gorgeous! There's just something about mountains that is visually appealing. Great shot!
Thank you for the delightful video of such a fun and capable vehicle. This Crosstrek Wilderness reminds me of the Corolla All-Tracs that used to ply the roads of the Southern Tier before they all rusted away by the mid-2000s.
Best Subaru is one that has so much dirt road on it you don’t know what color it is! Crazy machine. Can’t wait to see the towing if you can and what it’ll do in some deep snow and icy conditions. Love watching these videos on Subaru……always spot on 🏆🥇
Great car. Love the way this video was filmed love the music etc. well done video. Love your content
Awesome, I've got one coming in a couple of weeks, I feel very confident in the purchase now!
I just sold my WRX to buy the 2023 Forrester Wilderness (6 days ago). As fun as the WRX was, this Forrester is loaded with some really great tech, capabilities, etc. Shocked at how premium it feels inside and the ride (so far pavement only) is fantastic. I liked that it’s a bit shorter than my wife’s Outback but still offers plenty of room for people, bikes, gear, dogs, etc.
Hell yeah, looks awesome! I've had mine on pre-order for a month now, can't wait to get it in hand!
Which color did you pick?
@drivingsports Geyser Blue, it was a tough choice between that and the Alpine Green!
Hey Ryan! It was so nice meeting you this morning at the Guitar Center in Redmond (this is Branden). Thank you SO much for all of the informative content you put out. Everything is so well filmed, engaging, and unbiased. You’re killing it!
I love your videos! Keep up the great work
I bought an Outback Wilderness from a lot of research and your work, so happy with it. Still, excited to see your thoughts on the CTW!
Family members bought a '20 Crosstek and a '21 Forester partly based on reviews from DSTV.
I absolutely love these reviews! Now that the Dynamic Trio are out. Would it be Possible to get a Outback vs Forester VS Crosstrek? I think that would be a really interesting video
+ Bronco Sport? If anyone has the pull with Subaru for this ask, Ryan does!
Already asked.
@@drivingsports I assume they didn't give you an answer LOL. I'd be curious to see if there's any significant differences in performance...I know there are size differences, but that would be more of a buyer's choice...I'm curious if the AWD programming would be different.
@@wildbill23c It's just a matter of logistics. They don't always keep an Outback and Forester Wilderness in the PNW fleet. (For example, right now there is only a Crosstrek Sport and Impreza available.)
@@drivingsports Have you reviewed the Impreza yet? Or the Legacy? Don't recall seeing a video on either as of late. If you have, I must have missed them LOL. Course neither are offroad worthy like the crossovers are, but definitely worth the mention, not everyone wants or needs a crossover or SUV, some still want a regular old car LOL.
Thank you! Waiting on mine to come in!
Been looking forward to this vid!
ooh, another awesome video! super looking forward to this - I do some occasional camping and go over some light trails so I was looking at this vs the Mazda CX-5. I would totally get this but I want the ventilated seats if I go for long drives, plus the beefier engine for overtaking in those single-lane highways. Looking forward to the long term review and road trip!
Niiiice, bro. Been waiting for this one
Great video as always!!
Was hoping Crosstrek would be improved and there it is. This trim and version so far is great. The infotainment system over the year was so bad; glad to see it better. Cars just need to make it mirror with buttons and nothing else.
Great video. Enjoy watching you as I take my vehicles to the sierras.
The infotainment on the 2024 models is also snappier than the 2023. I think Subaru are listening to customer feedback.
I like the moment where Ryan says that the better approach angle pays off and hits the ground with the left corner of the front bumper:))) Boy, that Subaru's signature overhangs...
I love everything to do with Subaru wilderness family!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Excellent review, as usual!
finally! I've been waiting for this!
Awesome review as always
Have my cross wilderness 4 days now. Love Love Love it!!
Night n day from my 18 cross premium...
Yasssss! Driving sports and the coveted crosstreck!!!❤
Great video and it helped me alot on finally making up my mind on this suburu ! I have a 2door Rubicon and this suburu is not as bulky and way more comfortable than the jeep. I'll keep both
Both is a great 2-car solution.
Getting mine in green this Saturday, luno life makes a custom fit air mattress for the crosstrek that can fit two 6'2 people the the back.
Just ordered mine in the alpine green ❤ super excited !
You'll probably never see this , but I'm loving the content and style. Keep it up, you have helped me pick my next subaru that I'm picking up in a couple weeks
I read all the comments. 👍🏼-RD
Mindbuildingsolutions approved! Excellent video and content.
Great review. Thanks. 🎉❤
Have a 2023 Forester Wilderness got it with 12 miles and already have 3k miles on it... I live in CO and have explored some off road areas and it definitely is a fun car. Can not complain about the average 27mpg either compared to my 16 on my 2017 Discovery. I sometimes wish I had gone with the Outback for the turbo motor and a little more power but for daily commute and some casual off road / camping it will due.
Man I’ve been waiting for this
Saw this green at the dealership and it looks very nice.
Great video! Can't wait for TFL saying it failed to climb Moab...
TFL non negotiable: unable to negotiate Moab and CVT. Automatic thumbs down by TFL.
I know you're not a comedian, but you give me a good chuckle every time you let us know your legs to torso are proportional.😊
I have a 2019 Crosstrek and love it. I don’t want a bigger, heavier, thirstier, more expensive Outback. The new Wilderness is tempting, but I’m still deciding. I’ve been rigging up beds in cars for over 50 years. I shove the passenger seat as far forward as it will go and add a carefully designed plywood platform. Add a couple of PVC pipe legs, and I have a 6’ bed where I can stretch out.
The Crosstrek, now with more Otter Box standard.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing these on the forest service roads here in Washington.
Awesome video we've been waiting for this for so long! When you say there's no vents to the back seat have you checked under the seat? I'm gonna have my dog back there in 110 f Texas summer I really want to make sure she'll be cool back there, in fact, that's one of the big reasons I'm getting a new car in the first place
I've never been this excited !!!
Been waiting for this
Had this on order but went with the Mazda CX50 Meridian instead. Glad I did.
Congrats! Love the look of the CX-50. What made you choose the Mazda over Subaru?
Can’t wait to see you put the 2024 Outback wilderness to the test!
I love your videos-- learn a lot--- anyway- now I'm a bit TORN between this and the OUTBACK-- but Wildnerss on the OUTBACK and the LIMITED on this one-- (and I'll lift it and change the wheels to make it a wilderness with MORE stuff!! )
Oooohhhh man…..here’s THE TEST we’ve all been waiting for!
Still a hard call for me to pick the Crosstrek Wilderness or Forester Wilderness...Please keep 'em coming!
I don’t know why I think this little Truck / Car thing is so cool for reference I own a Gen2 and Gen3 Raptor and I have a Navigator but this little thing I truly think is cool I’d drive this daily for sure
Great review! FYI, charger comes standard in the Wilderness, Sport and Limited😊
The suspension travel looks pretty good!
If they don't already have a 2.0 turbo offering you can bet that they're going to follow the crowd and offer it. The Compass Trailhawk, The Cherokee Trailhawk, the bronco sport. They have to.
Hate turbos. The gas mileage is a BS smokescreen. Since you have to actually have the turbo on all the time to do anything and then the gas mileage tanks. Oh and when those "fragile things" fail you are screwed. And of course you're screwed when they burn up the engine . Tumi turbos equal delusional gas mileage and a disposable car..
I think I'm going to leave the rest of the lame voice-to-text auto correction screw-ups on... Because it's cracking me up right now 😅
OK. I'm back! When I first read about the cross-state adventure, I knew I was in! As a long time subscriber I knew Ryan was going to use this trip as a teaser. I am OK with that! Throughout the video he was smiling, which is very good, for the vehicle he is reviewing. Other comments that he should trademark were: "Change settings... not!, This is so much fun!, Ha-Ha!, I can't go too fast! Yeah! That was fun!, This thing... pretty awesome." Aside from all that, I really liked this kind of long-form video which is what is needed for some cars. I was also wondering why he didn't activate the front-view camera... "Front camera? No! Not even as an option." Which is a very sorry thing for Subaru. I mean, built exclusively to off-road pursuits, and you DON'T even OFFER that as an option. BOO! Oh.. it's not Halloween yet. Oh, well! I did appreciate his end comment, however, "This thing... pretty awesome!" I will more-than-likely have a heart attack in anticipation of the next video. This one will rise above most to a high ranking in my TOP 10 Driving Sports videos. Keep 'em coming, Ryan!
Man. Finally. My favorite Subaru is here. ❤🤘
Awesome content.
Thankfully Ryan you didn't run into any Tusken Raiders on your visit to Tatooine.😊 Those little Jawa can be quite pesky though. 😆Are you sure all of the parts are still on the Subaru?? Please take care Ryan and thank you for all of your time and efforts.
I’ve been looking for a new vehicle and have been eyeing the Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness! Now I’m solid!
You gotta do a side by side video with a Jeep Renegade Trailhawk against this! I bought a renegade trailhawk last year and I absolutely love it and would like to see how it stacks up to it's competitors directly. I know it hasn't change really at all since it released, but I feel like it is an underdog or a hidden gem in the segment that no one talks about (i understand it is an expensive stellantis product lmao).
The only thing I ever heard about it is that it's a repackage Fiat 500 electrical issues and falling apart while it was brand new. So basically what I'd expect from a Fiat Jeep Chrysler thing😅😉 oh yeah and Jeep, so, completely overpriced. (Although the price of this Subaru thing has gotten pretty overpriced. Not as bad as Jeep though.). These days Jeeps are just overpriced poser mobiles. And you have to pay a hell of a lot more money to get a trailhawk. To do what a Jeep is supposed to do. Remember when you're basically just had to buy a Jeap to do what a jeep was supposed to do... Now there's a bunch/mostly of 2 wheel drive, all wheel drive, unibody toy overpriced poser mobiles. 🙄 You have to pay a ton of extra money now to get a trailhawk version to start to get close to what a Jeep was/ is supposed to be. Oh and then there's that Jeep, Chrysler, Fiat, "stilantis"? ... "Quality, reliability," and gas mileage 🙄😅 Fix It Again Tony... 😅
Hey can they make they voice to text on here work anymore horribly?!?🤪🤬
@@RRr-yl8zr I mean sure. but you got to keep in mind the times we are in. ~35k for a full loaded car isn't that bad. And that's what I hear from everyone who doesn't own one. I've asked multiple people who actually own one and they have had little to no problems with them even at 70-100k miles. I'm sure it depends on how you maintain it, but that goes for pretty much any vehicle.
Right now the only downside of the car is the engine not being very strong, it doesn't feel weak, but just nothing to rave about. and you can spend 35k on other brands that have more features standard, like power tailgate, parking sensors, adaptive cruise systems, which the renegade can get, just not on the trailhawk because of the different bumper you get. It's a tradeoff which a lot of people don't understand.
@@Boom5hot26 @Boom5hot26 couldn't care less about a power tailgate. If I'm too feeble to open the tailgate then I would be too feeble to drive to drive a car, especially one that's made to go down nasty roads. It's just ridiculous extra expense and then extra maintenance expense and hassle. I was looking at a couple of Cherokees to buy years ago. I took them two different shops for inspection. both shops said don't buy them. Various problems. And they all seem to always have failing tie rod ends also . It's pretty well established a Chrysler is the least reliable , highest maintenance, lowest gas mileage, of all US made cars. From the 1980s up until Maybe at least the last several years. And look at that cheap crappy dumpy interior from the 1970s on those Chrysler 300 's 🙄. Most of the stuff you listed I think is for selling the cars to women . Maybe even with a three-way lighted makeup mirror? 😅. I Don't Really trust adaptive cruise control. And of course all kinds of extra sensors and maintenance and potential failure points involved in all of that overdone stuff. I Don't really like anything that's going to take control of breaking or or steering. That should be making for some interesting crashes and deaths in the future with system errors and failures. Electronics do not like heat, water, vibration. You know, being in a car 😅 I also would just love the breaking to come on while I am passing a car in a tight space with traffic coming at me ahead and then have the breaking slam on either making it so I can't pass or locking me into the lane with oncoming traffic and a car on my right preventing me from getting back into my lane. And if you've got major problems happening on your car after only "70,000 miles", you got a piece of crap car. What it really needs is a front camera. Those things cost nothing these days you just need the cheap digital camera and some wire to get to the dashboard, there's already a entertainment center monitor screen there.
It really could use what... another 20 horsepower and 20 ft lb of torque? To make it a much better all around car. And I would much rather get the cloth seats from the sport version than the hot sweaty fake leather rubber diving suit seats whatever they are, they are nasty hot messes. I would much rather have cloth seats and save the money. they say that sweaty mess of a material that's in the wilderness cost more.
But I do still want to see how it does against the renegade off-road. Even though you'd have a hard time trying to give me to buy a Fiat renegade / Fiat 500 😅. Is the renegade smaller than the crosstrek? That would be a problem. I'm kind of thinking the Crosstrek might be on the too small side? Wait, does the renegade have less power than the crosstrek? I wonder which one you have to rev higher to get to the power.
But you know what is the worst most unreliable failing piece of junk almost unusable. Basically completely unusable...
It is the voice to text on here! Completely useless dropping off words putting in the wrong words then later changing to the wrong words. Impressively, amazingly horribly bad pretty much useless setup!🤬🤪
Impressive upgrades they made 😎 can’t wait to see the future videos of this car! Hopefully Subaru will start to add better skid plates as standard equipment and front camera for the Wilderness model at least 🤞
I thought the skid plate was part of the Wilderness package?
@@wildbill23c it is by as Ryan said but, he did say it wasn’t the best thickness so likely won’t hold up to much if hit
@@anthonyb755 Most factory "Skid" plates don't hold up to anything at all, you'll destroy them by driving through a pile of snow....all that underside plastic cladding and aero crap is utterly useless anyhow, so my guess would be the tin can skid plate wouldn't be useful other than a projectile to get shoved into the radiator upon impact LOL.
100% right on the skid plate, bought my OBW 2 weeks ago and already have a front, mid and rear diff plates installed and I'm only doing light off-road and snow.
You know, I'm in the market to buy a 2024 CT, but I've been waiting for this review and excited for the next one you'll post in about a week, so thank you. I will say, I'm upset that they rid the entire trim line of manual transmission, but at the very least you can "switch" gears via paddle shifting and the side benefit of getting dual x-mode, however, in Canada Subaru has yet to include the CTW on their website with all specs and cost, so its a bit deflating trying to make an informed decision with no information at hand. Debating between CT Onxy and CT Wilderness. The American trims specs are always different than the Canadian counterpart, so that doesn't help. Great review!
On my 2nd Crosstrek Limited now, love this vehicle. People that usually talk negative about Subarus, never owned one lol Shame on Subaru for releasing this Wilderness..... now I want to trade. Great video as usual!! Only thing I'd do is probably replace the tires for Yokohama Geolander G15s, Falken Wild Peaks or Pirelli All Terrain Plus tires.
I'm in love!
I would love to drive one of these for 6 months. I been weaning on outback, forester or crosstrek wilderness no matter what for a 2nd vehicle
good onya mate ! great video. Unfortunately here in Australia, Subaru refuses to market the 2.5 Crosstrek. We only get the 2 litre engine. Which is weird because here the Crosstrek 2.0 and the Forster 2.5 are pretty much the same price. Meanwhile we are campaigning hard for the return of the Subaru Brumby ute (that's a 'pickup' in your parlance). Cheers !
Woohoo! I've been waiting for this review and excited to see more CTW videos. After watching your channel I am really thinking about buying one! I need something that can handle offroad situations to go hiking, climbing, and skiing while still having good mpg for the highway. Thanks so much for the video Ryan, excited to see the next one! 😊 I was also thinking about getting a skid plate from primitive as you have recommended them in other videos. Would you suggest getting just the front plate as the front end tends to be the lowest point, or should I go with all 3 in the package?
Front and Diff, Imho are the two necessary ones. The third is just extra insurance.
@@drivingsportsthank you 🙏
Other than the infotainment screen being a major problem update and safety hazard for the driver and vehicle, this Crosstrek Wilderness looks amazing.
I honestly love small cars. And this particular subaru would be my go to car
6 foot one legs and torso proportionate needs to be on a shirt lol
Love your videos
Hey there! May I know when did you record this? I was in Virgin, UT back on the 14th of september! Loved the place, and actually went exactly where you have been!
good to see Gregg Turkington back in the driver seat of his own show!
The forester is more my size but that small engine is even more noticeably slow in that bigger vehicle. I wish they stock a hybrid motor in both for a little extra oomph.
Thanks for this video. May be I haven't seen, but could you make a comparison between a standard version and a wilderness version, to find out the differences. It could be interesting comparison...
