    Please leave a comment if you’d like a round 2 video on ceramic coatings and please let me know which brands to test. It happens all the time and I fail to select the best lineup of brands to test. So, I would greatly appreciate your help. I periodically ask for a vote on which brands to test. The “vote” notification only goes out to those who have both a) subscribed and b) selected the “bell”. th-cam.com/channels/2rzsm1Qi6N1X-wuOg_p0Ng.html

      I have been using Meguiars for a long time and so far I have not found anything better. If you have a car the size of a matchbox, then you can use any protective coating, because it’s not a very big job to put a new coating, and if you have a truck or a huge van, you won’t find better Meguiars because in order to update the protection layer All you have to do is spray onto wet surfaces and rinse with water. And this advantage cannot be beaten by any of the considered coatings. Meguiars the best

    love that side by side video of "before chemicals" and after... really shows how well the products work. Most products do a great job initially but fail over time, washes, and exposure to the elements. Would be interested to see you do a traditional ceramic coating test to see if there is any benefit to spending more money for different brands of ceramic coating. I did a test like that and didn't find any difference between brands, but you do much more thorough and in depth testing than I do.

    I believe I left a similar comment on another video related to this, but here goes again. I first used a ceramic coating on my 2013 RAV4 last April, as I was tired of having wax coatings wear away too easily. Was very impressed with the results from the get go. Come late October, I wanted to protect the paint during another Maine winter. Well...the coating was still beading up water like it did in April. Heck, maybe summers were not too bad on the coating. I did a quick recoat anyway, and wished for the best. This past weekend...two days ago, 6 months after the recoat...I gave my RAV4 a nice, spring cleaning, inside and out. The ceramic from October looked like it had just been applied!! This is after a relatively mild Maine winter, but still...lots of snow, cold and salt spray from the roads. What I used last April, and still do, was the Turtle Wax one you had as number one. In a real world 'test', your results were confirmed! Thank you Todd...my 10 year old RAV4 looks awesome! As one more comment...do not skip the clay bar step. You will not believe the crud that it picks up that you can't even see normally.

      There is a video talking directly with the chemist and marketing heads of turtle wax. Seal and Shine does have SiO2 in it. The new formula adds UV protection and less streaking. But still consider the “ceramic” branded bottle to be slightly better. This is from Turtle Wax real world results may differ.

  • @peteo7342
    @peteo7342 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    For my ride - Thoroughly washed, twice - I then Nano Skin (clay bar) twice, using their Glide spray, then thoroughly washed twice again then thoroughly dried the car with a car drier. Then Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Sprayed three times and let it cure in the garage for 24 hours between coats and the paint gleams/sparkles like you might not believe. Yes, it was a lot of work, it gets washed each weekend with no loss of the ''sparkle'' since Xmas 2019. It gets driven and parked in the sun every day and under a carport at night. The paint is white which is a hard colour to get a ''wet'' look. When parked at a shopping centre it gets regular looks (I suppose because of the shine) by people walking by. Again, it was a lot of work but the effort and time was more than well worth it.
    Thanks to Project Farm for the video and to confirm I made the right choice.

    Great video, you knew I was going to chime in on this. Always tune right in as soon as I get home on Mondays. Glad to see TurlteWax performing so well. We sprayed a lot of cars in their parking lot testing several of their formulations back in the early 90's. They have come a long way. Ceramic coatings are very different than waxes. Most waxes use a fugative emulsifer so they can be removed with an alkaline cleaning product. Ceramics actually cross link the silicon matrix and are much less soluble. Car detailers these days can be real artists smoothing the paint surface and making htem look like glass. There is an instrument out there, I think made by Byk Gardner that measures the water beading angle on the surface. This is used to measure the hydrophobic strength of the coatings. I love your taped off hood section test. Shows a great deal of side by side results.

      when I started watching this video I thought myself I’m pretty sure those are not ceramic coatings but are synthetic polymer coatings I looked it up and it’s actually kind of confusing but I’m mostly right ceramic spray waxes are infused with about 10 to 14 percent SiO2 the SiO2 that makes it ceramic doesn’t fully harden and bond to the surface mixed with that amount of polymers at such a low percentage of SiO2. Ceramic nano coatings have a SiO2 with diy 80-86% professional grade 93% I think for the first time applier 80% would be the best as it’s the most forgiving mess up and it’s a pain in the ass to get off.

      These ceramic spray waxes aren’t designed to hide swirl marks or scratches. If anything they will just expose even more. Primary purpose is to protect the paint underneath. Second is add gloss. Anything that fills in the scratches to make them less visible will not last long. You really need to compound or at least polish the paint first. It will also help the protection adhere better and last longer.

    I tried the turtle wax spray after this video and it is holding up during the winter so far. Roads are heavily salted where I live and I wash my cars with a pressure washer regularly during the winter. Just with the pressure washer without any soap the paint gets quite clean and water is beading off again.

    I bought the turtle wax product based on this and keep my car in the garage when not driving. I applied two coats. Despite it continuing to be provide nice beading, the slickness to the touch leaves after a month or so. So measurement of beading isn’t the only measure of lasting ability. Try it for yourself and see. It’s super easy to apply so I’ll use it 3-4 times per year. It’s good, but not amazing.

    I live in Canada, the turtle wax hybrid solution ceramic coating survives over 60% in the winter...I followed the instruction to apply the second layer after 24 hr letting the paint absorb the Sio2, and after two layers, it works perfectly through gas station machine wash and heavy salt after travel. recommend to people who love detailing.

      I completely agree. It is definitely a comfortable and reliable vehicle. With proper maintenance these cars can last someone a long time. Where I work we had 2 of these as fleet vehicles. One had "died " and I asked my boss about it. He said if you can get it running then it is yours. I replaced the battery and unplugged the Mass Air Flow sensor and was able to drive it home. I has to do some maintenance items that were due to be done, had to replace the rear door modules, top off the AC, and replaced the coolant elbows that are a known weak spot for 3800 series II engines. I got it with 275k on the clock and drove it everywhere. I ended up giving it to the lady that was helping my mom when I was at work because I found out she was hitch hiking 40 miles to get to town. When it was destroyed in an accident it was nearing the 400k mark and was still on the original never rebuilt motor and transmission. Seriously a good vehicle. not to mention it got over 30 mpg on the interstate.
