What about turtle wet wax ceramic? And vs graphene infused flex wax?? What is better? Can u test it? What is the best graphene for you? Flex wax? 303? Or something else?
Thanx for your reviews. They are awesome. Have you ever tried Zymöl waxes? I've found them to be very easy to apply and one of the most beautiful finish eventhough they may be not the most durable. I used carbon and cream varieties with great results for the past 30 years. And I've heard they are comparable to Swissvax quality and looks wise. Any thoughts? Could I use Menzerna Powerlock + (I live now in EU) for durability and Zymöl carbon over it for its incredible deep warm shine? Will be it better or worse than using collinite liquid wax?

Pan , the ultimate test… seal a panel with graphing coating. Lay it under a tree. Put a bird feeder in the tree. Fill feeder with berries, (red) & wait! Then we may all see if berry acid will eat the coating into the paint. I had my truck in’95 sealed with auto armor sealant. A month later parked it under a tree . At apartment complex. Next day came out and saw bird droppings on hood . Washed it and ate into the bare metal. Less then 24 hours. Yes they warranty my hood! But this Test would top all your friends channels!
I just ordered a new vehicle, and dealer tried to sell me on ceramic protection add-on for the interior leather and exterior paint...all for $899. Took a pass on that. This video will be a great help in helping me to decide which way to go.
That was a good move on your part. I always tell my viewers to refuse all the crap dealerships offer when it comes to “paint protection” or any detailing type service. See my video on detailing brand new cars: th-cam.com/video/QgoyrC-5CMc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=A8cT5hKSQRG1xW_Q

CARNAUBA WAX for me. Best wet gloss look on paint.. and if it last only one month thats good with me because i enjoy detailing/ waxing my vehicles and motorcycles
Great explanation of the differences between products. For my 15 year old bright red Mazda Miata I used a carnauba product for years but got tired of the application process. Switched to a spray ceramic (Griot's) last year and couldn't be happier. Looks great, easy to apply and refresh.
after ceramic coating cures, is it worth using any spray waxes? does that extend the life of the finished coating near as well as another application of a spray-off ceramic solution? or should you always stick to ceramic products once sealed with it officially?
@@smatchimo55 he mentioned it isn't recommended on a ceramic coating because it masks some of the self cleaning/hydrophobic qualities you get from the ceramic coating as it will no longer have an effect given it is no longer the top layer in contact with the elements.

Pan I can’t tell ya how grateful I am that I found your channel. I used to manage/bartend and help run a bar for many years since the doors opened. Gave so much of myself and my life being dedicated to making this place a successful business and that ended up coming to fruition. I was bringing in more money than many folks who spend tons of money on their degree. Then in March 2020 we all know what happened. The world shutdown and I won’t give you the whole awful story but I was basically forgotten about and left hanging high and dry when they reopened. My wife and I have three young kids and 3 months prior to the shutdown we were finally able to find a house in a good neighborhood with very good schools. Things were looking up. So three months after finally having a mortgage to pay I basically lost everything in the span of a few months no knowing my job wasn’t waiting for me. After a lot of thought and soul searching I decided that I will never work for someone that isn’t me ever again. I’ve always had a talent for cleanliness and organization going back as long as I can remember. I have been working with my uncle’s commercial cleaning business part time for some extra cash for over 15 years now so I knew that wasn’t the direction for me. So I decided to start my own mobile detailing business. Been going at it for about a year now and things have not been easy but that has a lot to do with my financial issues and not the quality of work I’ve been doing when there is work for me. I have just been winging it with little to no experience running my own business and I just wanted to tell you that without your channel I may have given up on this journey pretty quick. However the knowledge and wisdom you pass along has taken me far and keeps me confident in what I’m doing. I’m good at this and I can say that without even having as many cool toys and equipment that I would like to. I’ll get there someday soon and I’ll know exactly what to do when I do and that’s all thanks to you. One thing I really dig about seeing your setup is the over the top organization. I have been treating everything I do and everything I own the same way my whole life. I even showed some of this to my wife so I could say see I’m not crazy 😂. I wish you were located closer to Philadelphia cause I’d love to get the chance to sit down and pick your brain about many detailing topics. Anyway I’ve been meaning to comment this to you on a video for quite awhile. Sorry it was so long and hopefully you come across it sometime. Pan. Thank you so much for everything you have provided me with. Keep up the amazing work sir and I hope you are doing well. -Keith Deal
Hi Keith! First of all, thanks for the kind words and for your support. Much appreciated. And thank you for your courage to share your personal life experience. You have been through a lot since the pandemic, and it takes courage to want to get through it, and clearly you have it! I always say that hard work pays off, and you seem like you work really hard to achieve your goals, move forward in life and most importantly, have the right priorities taking care of your family like that. It's nice to see. I wish you all the success in the world with your detailing business. Perhaps we'll meet in person one day at an event some place. I hope to travel more and more to the USA for different events. I have never been to Phily, so it's on my list for sure. And yeah the majority of successful detailers usually have a thing for organizing and cleanliness for sure. We are over the top with it and it often becomes OCD even haha!! But that's our way of life and I'm ok with that. Better be super organized and clean compared to disorganized, lost and filthy right? I hope you have a great day and keep on working hard! I’ve coated a bunch of vehicles and my favourite combo for a reasonable price is 303 Nano Graphene topped every 3-4 months with Ethos Resist. I’m amazed how good that combo is.
Excellent tutorial. I haven't waxed a vehicle in at least 15-years, so I only have one point of reference. I tried 303 Graphene Nano Spray Coating and it was easy to apply and gives me very good protection. I own what I call just normal vehicles, so for me it is well worth the money.
Great overview! I agree on coatings being the best protection. I have found that graphene is the best performer for my geographic area on daily drivers and working vehicles. When I do a show car, garage queen or a no rain weekend driver, I most often do a sealant topped with a carnauba wax. That warm glow and gloss is still a huge eye catcher. Thank you for the overview and I think your discussion on water spotting was spot on (sorry for the pun!) :)
About every few years I do a "color correction" then I use both ceramic and graphene on my 1965 Piper Cherokee aircraft periodically through the year. The plane was painted in 1984 and even sitting on the ramp in the coastal Carolina summer heat, the paint job looks brand new. A testament to DuPont Imron paints and the UV protection of modern coatings.
Great video. So I have a question. I often put layers on my car but it makes it hard to figure out how long it should last and when to re-apply. So, I understand that the top coat will determine sleekness, hydrophobic-ness, etc. but how does longevity work with layers and should I be layering? For example, say I put ceramic coating on, then over that I put on a butter wet wax for deep wet shine, then over that I use a spray on detailer like TW graphene or P&S Beadmaker. How long should I expect this to last? Do the top layers protect the bottom layer of ceramic coating? Do they wear off layer at a time or does it not work this way? Should I not be putting layers of other products over my ceramic? (maybe it defeats the purpose of the ceramic coating?) Thank you and I appreciate all the great videos you provide...Very helpful.
When it comes to protection, I was always a carnuba wax person. 3 years ago I ordered a Mustang and decided it was going to get a ceramic coat, so practiced on my existing car, and while it may be a day or more of prep, 2 years later the water still rolls off like it did when the ceramic coat was new. Maintenance is easy, every few washes I use a spray topper from the same company, and every 6 months a light clay bar, iron decon, and 2 coats of the spray sealant and it's like new. Now I have to work out what to do with the caravan when it arrives, as it will be a real challenge to do the sheer size
I WAS one of those guys who would spend many hours detailing my vehicle, but at a certain point I grew tired of wasting all that time and began looking for much quicker solutions. I now use a "dry" spray wash cleaning method and a quality carnauba spray wax, I like that old school deep glossy finish. Yes, I have to apply the spray was more often, but it only takes an hour or so, start to finish, compared at least 6-7 hours using a paste or liquid wax. If I had a nicer vehicle, I might go for a ceramic coat, but that's overkill for my purposes. I want my vehicle to look good, but I just don't want to spend a ton of time and $$ on it.
I’ve been using 303’s graphene coating and have been really happy with it. It’s on my 2014 Black Ram which sits outside unprotected in GA. I have been getting compliments everywhere for shine, gloss & appearance. I liked its performance during pollen season and minimal to no water spotting after rain.
@@omarbryant7930 I’m near Athens. I just started using the 303 graphene quick detailer on every 3rd maintenance wash and boy you can see the enhancements
@@PanTheOrganizer Thank you Pan. I have never been so proud of my vehicles looking so good. Even my kids friends are asking if I would show them how to take care of their cars. I tell them to check you out but am happy to pass on what I’ve learned from you.
So I got new tires for the SL today. The front wheels (I guess from brake dust) didn’t have enough ceramic coating (McKee's 37 MK37-634 Hydro Blue SiO2 Coating) to prevent the weights from sticking, but the rear wheels they just fell off. The guy tried to clean it with brake cleaner but he said it needed acetone which they don’t have. I said OK, dont charge me for the balancing and when I go to the dealer for the alignment, they will do it. Oddly driving home I never would have known the wheels weren’t balanced, not even the slightest vibration. Clearly these products work.

If you are new to car detailing applying a spray on ceramic coating is a good way to get started. I started with Last Coat Black Ice a year ago and used TLC 2 as a topper. That has been great and easy to fix if you make a mistake. Next time graphene all the way... Thanks to Pan's tutorials I feel comfortable stepping up a bit.
Always love your videos. In particular your longer videos that go into depth and detail. What I really appreciate is the specs and science you talk to. Anyone can tell you, this is good, that one better and this one is best. But very few go into the science of why, it definitely convinces me that it's not just snake oil. Thanks Pan!

b@@PanTheOrganizer I had picked up the Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Acrylic Black Spray Wax and Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Acrylic Black Polish. I actually used them a deferent way today. I put them on separately but buffed them both off afterwards instead of wiping them off. Beside a good amount of dust, both came out great. I plan on using the TW Ceramic wax spray as the topper. Ok idea, or no? My car is in my garage a lot of the time and not in the elements a real lot. I am always "chasing" that gloss and protection like someone chasing a drug high! lol That is how I accumulated so many different types.
As others have said, great rundown and explanation of the types of coatings and what they do. I have a question -- which coating is likely to be the most "dust-phobic"? I certainly like the ease of water beading and runoff when washing and drying, but I'd be even more happy if I had a coating that let the dust and pollen more easily get blown off by a leaf blower or similar, avoiding the need to wet wash sometimes.
Dont even tell me, my part of country is known by high sand content in the dirt and also we get sandstorms that travel hundreds and hundreds of km from Sahara desert. I fully washed and waxed my car.. came to check it out 30 minutes later and there was a layer of light dust already. Doesnt help I live on a field where tractors drive up and down.
I've been at a passionate weekend warrior level detailer for maybe a bit over 6 years. So I'm extremely far from having any experience compared to you Pan. Of course I have always been a freak of keeping my cars clean but for some reason I never actually dove into detailing for real before discovering ceramic coatings in 2017. Even in this short amount of time since then a lot of things have evolved, and I think graphene has quickly become an absolute game changer in the world of detailing. For the last 3-4 years I have been doing paint corrections and polishing before applying a new protection each autumn on my winter car and each spring on my summer car (I live in a townhouse without a garage and on the exact same island as you Pan, so winter is really a cringe season for me not being able to wash my car very often). Anyway I tried over 20 different ceramic coatings on my cars and also on other ones owned by friends and family, and this year will be the second time I will try a graphene coating, I've already chosen Adam's "advanced" one. I especially love products from Adam's for some reason. Honestly the application of graphene+SiO2 coatings have become so much easier than only SiO2, at least with what I experienced as my first time with graphene last spring I can't wait to see the satisfyingly "cold" shine with the new Adam's formula. Anyway, thank you Pan for always putting out such amazingly good videos with such high quality and high value productions of yours. It's always such a pleasure to listen to you. Take care and I hope your heart is still pounding when driving your magnificent 992 Turbo S.
Hey, Pan! Amazing video once again. They just keep me going. You made it really foolproof as to the differences in the huge array of paint protections out there. At the end of the day, I love myself some carnauba, even if it takes some time to apply it and buff it off. As you said, soothing and therapeutic.
@@PanTheOrganizer, for the time being, it’s Meguiar’s ultimate paste wax. I’m gonna try some others in the future. I’m also using GTechniq’s C2 sealant, that’s also nice. I tried Meguiar’s Hybrid Ceramic Spray Wax, was honestly underwhelmed… even though I made quite some preparation on a brand new car.
I made a mistake, my favourite one is the Meguiar’s Gold Class. Don’t know what I was thinking, the Ultimate Paste Wax is a polymer sealant not carnauba.
Thank you Pan!!! Woke up to a Pan notification today and poured my coffee, sit back relaxed, and enjoyed the show 👊🏻 Even though I just bought a new car, I’m an old school paste/liquid wax kinda guy. I love to spend the time waxing my vehicles. I usually wax once/twice a month so no long protection needed here. I’ve used Mequiars ultimate Paste or liquid wax over the last several years but after discovering your channel I’ve recently switched to TW Hybrid Solutions Ceramic + Graphene paste wax. I can’t wait to see the comparison. Question: What maintenance topper do you recommend for this product? Also, how often? Every wash? Thank you SOOOO much for all YOU DO!!!!
Thanks for sharing Mike! Glad you enjoyed coffree + my video! :). For a maintenance topper, if you want to stick within the TW range, you can use their Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Wet Wax as a drying aid. Link: amzn.to/3FCfZMl But really, you can use pretty much any ceramic or graphene based topper that you want, including my favourites in my drying aids video here: th-cam.com/video/NOTNed04xYE/w-d-xo.html I use a drying aid after each wash (I wash my car twice weekly). But the bare minimum is to add some sort of topper every 2 to 3 months.

Thanks Pan. Awesome 101 on waxes & coatings :) On a new vehicle I would go with a higher end ceramic or graphene coating. My current vehicle (Infiniti QX70) is 8 years old and I have been using ceramic spray coating on a monthly basis for the last 5 years, so easy to apply & very affordable! #NoBrainer
I watched one of the channels in the bahasa language do a test for graphene coating economically. He was able to hold up to more than 150x the wash with bad car shampoo and was only able to hold less than 20x the Touchless Shampoo, so keep that coating away from the overly aggressive Touchless Shampoo for light dust only. If you want to watch, the channel's name is "Bank Bey"
Excellent info. I’m sold on the Turtle Wax hybrid pro products. Using your cleaning prep method and applying the products is easy. It’s winter here and I have not had a chance to wash in 6 weeks and my cars are still clean and shiny 🙂.

I was very impressed when I first used a SiO2 coating, although it seemed to not be very effective at avoiding actual dirt from sticking on the surface. Then I tried graphene coating and combined it with graphene detailer & man, graphene is so awesome. U drive through an unpaved road, nothing at all. It’s insane
Hi Pan. I've been watching your videos for years and it has helped me to move towards some more advanced coatings. I've always liked Carnuba wax on my cars from AF but tried the Adam's spray graphene. Much easier than I expected. Just wondering if the process for removal is the same as wax? Decontaminate with iron remover, clay bar and a good alcohol wipe after paint correction. Since graphene coating last longer does it mean they are tougher to remove if applying a new coating again?
Unfortunately, for graphene or ceramic based products, removal is more difficult as those products are made to be durable and chemically resistant. The only way to ensure 100% removal is by machine polishing. Mechanical abrasion/friction is what is needed. I made a video showing all of this here: th-cam.com/video/e7WRbfkT5Yo/w-d-xo.html
I try! 25 years of detailing experience helps. But even I still learn new things on a regular basis. The detailing world really continuously evolves and new technologies and techniques pop up all the time, which is exciting as things keep moving forward to new levels. But you need to stay on top of things and learn as you go. Keep yourself up to date.
Pan, always, a pleasure to watch your videos. And I share your opinion: Ceramic/Graphene for my Daily Drivers; and my beloved Swisswax Carnauba wax for my "babies", which I drive only in the summer in nice weather from time to time only. Whether an Aston Martin or a Jaguar of the top models, only a Swisswax Crystal Rock or Concorso Carnauba wax gets applied there, nothing else. Of course, that’s me…
Great informational video! I will add that not all ceramic coatings are equal in appearance. I used recently Blackfire Pro Ceramic Coating on my '18 Infiniti Q60 and it did great appearance wise, but the 22PLE ceramic coating I used a few years back on this same car had a lot more pop and glow than the Blackfire. The BF is priced cheaper BTW.
This is a very detailed explanation. My .02 is if you detail your car often, wax or sealant is the way to go. SIO2 is the new kid, but if you're applying it yourself it's a bit expensive and you should know what you're doing. First, to apply it, it doesn't come out of MF easily and there can be high and low spots. If you change your mind, you can't remove it easily either. Wax/sealants are easy to apply and remove. Plus, natural waxed smell the best.

Hey Pan, thanks for the great informational video. I’m not sure if this question has been asked already but if you have your car painted professionally (like at a dealership etc.) how long should you wait until you can use these paint protection products? FYI I’m going to have my car painted from silver to Pearl white by Lexus, if that helps. The Pearl will have a clear coat on it when they’re finished.
Always wait 2 months after having a car repainted before you apply any protection on the paint. The gasing out phase needs to be completed for the paint to fully cure.
@@PanTheOrganizer I don’t know what time it is where you are but WOW it’s very late here 2am and I was not expecting a response that fast. THANK YOU PAN!!! 💯♥️💯
Pan, thank you for another informative video. Out of curiosity, would applying a carnauba wax over a ceramic coating still impart that “warm glow” appearance"? Of course it would mask the properties of the ceramic coating, but I’m curious about the aesthetic effect. Have a great day, and congratulations on 700k subscribers and counting!
Thanks Nathan! To answer your question, we would never apply a traditional carnauba wax on top of a coating. The reason is because you woukd mask the coating’s superior properties like hydrophobics and self-cleaning properties. Plus coatings would eventually just reject the wax as the chemistries aren’t meant to bond together. Now there are a few ceramic infused waxes out there that could be ok to use as toppers on coatings but only if the manufacturer of that ceramic wax says so. As a general rule, you want to apply SiO2 spray sealants on top of ceramic coatings for their maintenance. I’m an old school wax disciple from 1972. I used all the oldies… Turtle wax, Classic car wax, Blue Coral, Simonize, Maguire’s, Nu Finish, Mother’s etc. I’ve gotten so used to applying them every other week I’d feel lost by using some “5 year” coating. That’s no fun! But thank you for the overview. I had no idea what those “ceramics” were about. Good job.

I used the adam's graphine on mine. I don't think I could go back to anything else at this point. It DOES take a while the first time you apply it...well, the prep does, but once you've finished it, the results and maintenance are second to none.
I've always ceramic coated my cars shortly after I bought them new. With zero prep except for a quick wash. I've done this to 5 or 6 cars with excellent results.
Hi Eric. It's not because you think it "works" that it means it's the best way to do this. There is always a way, and then there's a better way. A new car is never new until it's properly detailed. - at the factory, the paint defects are often corrected quickly by rotary polishing which can leave marks and holograms, so polishing corrects those, before you lock that in long term with a ceramic coating for example. - vehicles are then transported by truck, train and boat so they are exposed to the elements, industrial fallout, brake dust, rail dust, etc - vehicles are often left at boat docks (when transported by boat) or in exterior parking lots for weeks or months, again being exposed to the elements - at the dealership, the vehicles are almost always poorly prepped using the same dirty water that was used for all the cars on a given day, and poor washing and drying methods leading to swirls and scratches - at the dealership, a layer of cheap wax or paint sealant is usually applied to attempt to make the paint glossy prior to delivery. It's crucial to remove any previous protection before you apply a ceramic coating, as coatings need to bond directly to a virgin clear coat. If you only plan on applying a regular carnauba wax or paint sealant though, you could decide to skip machine polishing, as those protectants can be applied over existing protection and it's not as crucial to prep the paint as well. I explain all of this in this popular video: th-cam.com/video/QgoyrC-5CMc/w-d-xo.html So you can better visualize the new car prep process, here are the steps I perform on a brand new car from two of my customers: Tesla Model Y: th-cam.com/video/gohks8xP5NY/w-d-xo.html Porsche 911 Carrera: th-cam.com/video/2ckiivbFqs4/w-d-xo.html Welcome to my channel. PhD Chemist here. No matter what products you apply, you'll have different responses per /vehicle/ *and* maker because many automakers have different formulas of solventborne clearcoat, and some brands, ie: Car maker X use/used to have different formulations of clearcoat depending on the vehicle model *and* color (7 series, blue, for example). Additional, *some* Makes/Models have poor chemical resistance on clearcoats, so bonding of high % of Si02/Ti02 will last a bit longer. (However, this was a few years back when were investigating the use of organic lipids as a stabilizing agent for a anti-UV coating, so it may not apply) Side note, out of all the materials, Ti02 (Titanium dioxide) is probably the best bet for any kind of automotive coatings - In my opinion - from doing materials engineering.

I also stack layers for over 13 years now. First Poorboys EX-P Pure Sealant 2 layers for durability, then sometimes when I have time a 3rd layer of either EX-P or Mothers California Gold Pure Carnauba Wax in the summer. But now for in the winter it's the first time I bought Gyeon WetCoat to apply over EX-P to boost hydrophobicity so I can postpone the real sealant applying work to a warmer moment in spring. For now it works great! The looks of WetCoat on my unicolor bright red car is more comparable to a carnauba wax! The awesome thing of a WetCoat is it works on all surfaces, paint, glass, plastic, rubber, etc!

This is the information I have been looking for, a comparison of the 4 options. Excellent presentation Pan. What is the warm glow? I only know this working with antique wood furniture. How do I know if my vehicles are clear-coated? My present vehicle was repainted before I got it, and the clear coat is peeling off terribly. My cars: 1- 1985 Garage kept, driving on weekends, never in snow/salt, and very seldom in the rain (meaning only getting caught in it). (lightweight indoor cover) 2. 1979 Outside kept, daily driver, never in snow/salt, Southern exposure in the rear, North and West exposure in front, will need a thicker car cover, waterproof. My climate: North East, 4 seasons Looking for: My biggest dilemma has been what to use under a car cover (more so the exterior for the daily driver) as I have read so many opposing views on damage to paint using some brands of car covers. I had always assumed that if the car was properly protected, most car covers would be fine, and the vehicle would have protection from the sun, pollen, bird droppings, etc on its own. Experience: I have waxed forever, never a ceramic coating, I only want to rinseless clean the garaged vehicle. No gallons of water running through the metal at least until I can feel confident that there is no moisture between the factory undercoat/breaks in the undercoat and the metal. The daily driver could get the normal wash and drive till dry. Thanks!
The application procedures for some products can be a big factor in choosing what to use . Zaino Z-CS Clear Seal is a " fire-and-forget " sealant that you can wipe onto the whole car at once with no buffing or wiping off ---in sun or shade . Zaino Z-AIO All In One is a sealant with cleaning properties that can be applied to the whole car at once by machine or hand , can be allowed to dry completely , and the residue is easy to wipe off . Z-2 Pro from Zaino is pure sealant that is applied by hand to the whole car and wiped off when completely dry . With the Zaino products above, there is no need to apply to one section at a time, waiting for a haze, and then wiping before moving to another section or panel . There's no need for shade . There's no going over areas that came out smeary or something with a damp rag . With some coatings, you may need to garage the car until the stuff cures lest rain or dew interfere . Think it over .
Pan, I think that the real answer is: the best is what you are comfy with ! Ceramic and graphen coating needs a lot of prep work and can be easily damaged when applying if you do a small mistake. Wax and sealants are easier to apply and to correct. Also, the amount of time some on wants to put on the maintenance of the paint protection. Its easier to maintain a wax than a ceramic coat. For now, I enjoy working with the essence twins combo and the hydro2 from carpro. Looking to get a formation for applying cquartz products soon and upgrade my work Find a recipe you are comfortable with, and just keep doing it. Then you will enjoy what you are doing and the results that comes with it!
Yes. To each their own. Use what you like and what makes you happy. In the end, the most important thing is that we’re all doing something to help protect our cars. It doesn’t really matter if it’s a wax, sealant or ceramic coating. 😁
100% correct Pan. Fore preparation is the art of all perfection . If you paint spray something, it will only ever be as good as the fore preparation applied in the beginning. ❤️
I have been using ceramic coatings for two of my cars, both black in color. But I'm quite hesitant in continuing to do so in the future. I believe ceramic coating does look really good when it is freshly applied on the car, it makes the car paint looks really deep with unreal gloss. However after a few months, against the climate, warm weather and a number of car wash, there were a number of swirls, and lots of waterspots which I was hesitant to remove, because of fearing that paint corrections would remove/degrade the nano coating layer on the paint. As someone who enjoys detailing my own car and doing diy paint correction & waxing it, I think in the future I will go back to waxes & sealant (turtle wax graphene ceramic paste wax looks awesome). I think it will give me the flexibility to correct my paint whenever I want too without worrying about damaging the nano coat.
I also have a black car. How do you maintain between car washes? Do you have to reapply the wax or will a wash on its own clean the car and retain the wax layer?
@@stanceswitch6419 I think it depends on the wax product that you use and also the climate in which you are in. For me wax + sealant could give me a good 4 months of layer & protection before it's starting to look dull
I bought a new vehicle and applied a spray on ceramic immediately (before any exposure to the elements). I’m hoping that’s ok because all I did was give it a thorough wash and power rinse and then applied the ceramic spray on. I did not use a clay bar or anything beforehand….

Hi Pan, i havs a brand new pickup truck. I paid the dealer for simoniz glass coating. It is definitely hydrophobic, and the shine is incredible. However, i have only had the vehicle a couple weeks, and it has been driven a total of 6 hundred miles, on city streets and the NYS thruway (no dirt roads or offroading or gravel or anything), and i already noticed a few fine scratches. I was able to buff out one above the drivers side tail light, and one above the passenger side wheel well. But theres a couple on the hood that lightened but could completely come out. The other day i noticed a speck of dirt on the bumper, and when i wiped it off gently with my finger, it ended up putting a scratch on it that i was also only able to lighten with a little maquires. I feel like this coating is super soft! I live in Buffalo, NY where the winters are hard, and i already have a couple scratches now. What do you recommend i do? The simoniz coating cost me $600. Do i have it removed? Can i top it with graphene spray or something to give it some hardness?
Hi Thomas. First, congrats on your new truck. Welcome to my channel. I have been detailing for 26 years and I love to share my knowledge and passion with my viewers. You found the right channel to help you learn everything about detailing. No paint protection product can protect against scratches and swirls. That's not what they're meant to do. Paint protections like waxes, sealants and coatings are meant to provide chemical resistance, UV protection, protection against bird droppings, tree sap, acid rain, provide self-cleaning properties to make the car easier to wash, provide hydrophobic properties, and increase gloss and slickness. The only thing that can protect the paint against stone chips and scratches is paint protection film (PPF), also known as "clear bra", that transparent plastic film applied on top of the paint. Also, never pay for the garbage products applied by car dealerships. They apply super cheap quality products that don't really perform well or last long, as they're only meant for pure profit. That's one tactic they have to increase their bottom line and be more profitable when selling vehicles: insurances, paint coatings, tinting, etc. Never accept those items. Go see a professional car detailer and have them do a proper job with quality products. Also, we never polish ceramic coatings. You are removing the coating by doing that. So yes you might be removing the swirls or scratches, but you're also removing the coating (mechanical abrasion removes the coating). There is one polish that can help remove defects on coatings, and that's CarPro Essence+ (not the regular Essence). But that's pretty much it.
Well now you at least will learn everything there is to know about detailing, and then some. I like to help my viewers make smart and informed purchasing decisions, help them navigate in this complex world of endless products, and share my passion with them, in hopes they get to enjoy detailing their own cars too. :)
@@PanTheOrganizer would it be a good idea to use some of that 303 spray right before winter? Also, can you recommend an undercoating? And do you have an undercoating video at all?
It depends what car you drive. Most luxury german manufacturers (BMW, Audi, Mercedes and Porsche) don't recommend undercoatings as that could void the rust warranty and they're usually made of higher grade and higher quality galvanized steel so it's of no worry. But for pretty much all other brands, yes get rustproofing and undercoating.
I totally agree with you. If we are new into car detailing, start with the sprays. It gives us an idea how to spread a product , how to buff a product, how to divide your vehicle to make your work easy. Even if we screw up, these spray coatings come off more easily. It all looks super easy when you experts do it but it's hard work and a lot of experience. But it's definitely satisfying. I personally think starting with waxing with the easy on easy buff ones is also not a bad idea. I think it's difficult to go wrong with waxing (easy application ones).

The ceramic coatings cannot stand automatic car washes. This is a problem for those of us that live in harsh winter weather, where hand washing is difficult. So they are not the most durable in all situations.
Thank you for the detailed explanations. I've been driving for 40+ years, I still learned something new from you today👍, not just product information also basic waxing facts.

Thanks pan. I consider myself an intermediate level detailer but I learned something new today. I use a graphene base coat on my M4 and then apply griot's "best of show spray wax (carnauba)" after every wash (once a week). It always looks extremely good when i'm done but the hydrophobic properties never last but a couple days when it rains. I will start using a graphene "maintenance spray" from now on so it doesn't mask the base coat's properties. I live on the gulf coast of florida right next to the water and my job is LITERALLY on the beach. Salt, rain, sand, pollen, and grime get on my car in a matter of 48hrs. The beach is a fun place but living next to it year round lets you see the effect it has on your car. Its awful.
Cool. Good to know your are learning new things by watching my videos. To help remove a bit of that wax, use a pre-wash like CarPro Lift in a foam cannon and use CarPro Reset as your shampoo. If your coating is still within its durability claims, you should be able to start restoring its hydrophobics.
Wow. That was deep. Good explanation. I think that coatings start off tremendous, but then after about a year the "fun" part of the coating starts to diminish. Not that the protection is not there, but water behavior changes. Toppers help alot, but the point of coatings is protection and ease of washing. I wish the cost of coatings would come down considerably. Thank you Pan.
It's always good to also refresh coatings quarterly with a good shampoo like CarPro Reset, then use chemical decontamination like iron and tar removers, to help break down traffic film and road grime that can mask the coating's performance. CarPro Descale and Spotless 2.0 can also be used to restore hydrophobics and coating properties.
I am still old school. Use sealant, and topping with wax. At least twice a year. I have tried Carpro Dlux on my wheels ... Love it and also tried some spray on rins off ( Carpro Hydro2 lite and Auto finesse Lavish, Auto finesse Aqua Coat) easy too use. Fast protection compared to layering wax
For those who do not have a garage to apply these products and have a black car, I do not advise using ceramic products (even if they are spray). If the painting has been exposed to the sun, even for a short time, the product will not stick and will need to be removed.
It's always best practice (and my recommendation) to apply paint protection in the shade (or ideally in a garage), on a cool surface. This is for the best user experience. Welcome to my channel. When I still had my black 04 Cupra R I always used Soft99 Mirror Shine as a base layer and then top it off with Polish Angel Rapidwaxx; beaded like crazy and the car looked like a mirror. My coworkers often asked what I did to my car, to make it look so good :D Sadly the Mirror Shine doesnt stick to my i30N for some reason, the hood looses the beading after 3-4 weeks, instead of 2-3 months.

Pan; I have found you, Yvan Lacroix, Brian Spitler and Jon Delieu to be the best, with your knowledge and experience and willingness to impart it to others in the care of cars. What you do is much appreciated.
Thank you Jim. It means a lot to be considered among those two other great humans and detailers.
I think the most important is to "just get some product on the car and keep putting it on" 😊
Too many people just aren't willing to bother. 😢
Thanks Martin!
after ceramic coating cures, is it worth using any spray waxes? does that extend the life of the finished coating near as well as another application of a spray-off ceramic solution? or should you always stick to ceramic products once sealed with it officially?
@@smatchimo55 Interested in the same question as well , as I am getting ready to switch to my first ceramic application here real soon.
@@smatchimo55 he mentioned it isn't recommended on a ceramic coating because it masks some of the self cleaning/hydrophobic qualities you get from the ceramic coating as it will no longer have an effect given it is no longer the top layer in contact with the elements.

My pleasure Paul. And thanks for the kind words!!
Ha, you are also a top level comment responder. Really appreciate your style.
You have your own opinions and product types but are non-argumentative with your commenters. Fabulous old school manners.
I appreciate that! Yeah I like to be close to my audience, as my viewers have supported me since the very beginning. I'm pretty much the only major detailing channel over 750,000 subscribers that takes the time to answer personally to each TH-cam comment every single day. I take pride in that.
I won't lie though, it can be overwhelming as I spend up to 4 hours daily just responding to comments. As you can imagine with an audience that big, I receive thousands of comments and messages and emails across all platforms every day. So I focus on responding mainly to TH-cam comments. I try my best.
So it's nice to see my efforts don't go unnoticed.

Good to know!
Excellent tutorial. I haven't waxed a vehicle in at least 15-years, so I only have one point of reference. I tried 303 Graphene Nano Spray Coating and it was easy to apply and gives me very good protection. I own what I call just normal vehicles, so for me it is well worth the money.
Thanks Mach 1 !
Thanks Brian! Have a great weekend!
Yes I put on 5 coats of torque's graphene, but always do the prep 1st you won't be sorry!!
I'd really be interested in seeing the water spotting resistance claims put to test with the graphene ceramic coating vs regular ceramic coating
Thanks for sharing your experience Warren!

Im interested as I love black cars. Do you simply wash your truck and then use 303, or did you do some process before using 303?

Thanks to Pan's tutorials I feel comfortable stepping up a bit.

b@@PanTheOrganizer I had picked up the Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Acrylic Black Spray Wax and Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Acrylic Black Polish.
I certainly like the ease of water beading and runoff when washing and drying, but I'd be even more happy if I had a coating that let the dust and pollen more easily get blown off by a leaf blower or similar, avoiding the need to wet wash sometimes.
id like that too because after like a week car is covered in dust due to the roads i drive, and its very easy to easy on candy red
Yup!! Thanks for watching Bogdan. What is your favourite wax?
@@PanTheOrganizer, for the time being, it’s Meguiar’s ultimate paste wax. I’m gonna try some others in the future.
I’m also using GTechniq’s C2 sealant, that’s also nice.
I tried Meguiar’s Hybrid Ceramic Spray Wax, was honestly underwhelmed… even though I made quite some preparation on a brand new car.
Yeah there are many newer and better spray protections now.
Cheers!
I made a mistake, my favourite one is the Meguiar’s Gold Class. Don’t know what I was thinking, the Ultimate Paste Wax is a polymer sealant not carnauba.
After many years I'm still learning from Pan.
That’s awesome Scott! We always learn new things. Even after 25 years of detailing, I still learn new things all the time.
Thank you Pan!!! Woke up to a Pan notification today and poured my coffee, sit back relaxed, and enjoyed the show 👊🏻
Even though I just bought a new car, I’m an old school paste/liquid wax kinda guy.
Link: amzn.to/3FCfZMl
But really, you can use pretty much any ceramic or graphene based topper that you want, including my favourites in my drying aids video here: th-cam.com/video/NOTNed04xYE/w-d-xo.html
I use a drying aid after each wash (I wash my car twice weekly). But the bare minimum is to add some sort of topper every 2 to 3 months.

@@PanTheOrganizer thank you so much. You always have all the right answers
I try! 25 years of detailing experience helps. But even I still learn new things on a regular basis.
Of course, that’s me…
Thanks for sharing!
I am using fusso coat for protection and topping it off with bead maker for gloss 😀
Good combo!
Excellent vid! BUT!….(there’s always a BUT right?) at 0:35 the fifth key is your environment. Really did enjoy this vid though! 👍🏻😁
Thanks Gilbert!
If you go for the looks, then Zipang. It kills everyone.

Pan still the best IMO. Love this guy, been following for years.
Ah thanks man!! I appreciate the support.
Here’s a video I made about how to do a maintenance wash on a ceramic coated car: th-cam.com/video/yLiePQRMFc8/w-d-xo.html
I hope this helps.

Good job.
Btw, I believe you can still find most of those old brands on the shelves at many auto parts stores. Amazing huh?

I've always ceramic coated my cars shortly after I bought them new. With zero prep except for a quick wash. I've done this to 5 or 6 cars with excellent results.
Hi Eric. It's not because you think it "works" that it means it's the best way to do this. There is always a way, and then there's a better way.
A new car is never new until it's properly detailed.
- at the factory, the paint defects are often corrected quickly by rotary polishing which can leave marks and holograms, so polishing corrects those, before you lock that in long term with a ceramic coating for example.
- vehicles are then transported by truck, train and boat so they are exposed to the elements, industrial fallout, brake dust, rail dust, etc
- vehicles are often left at boat docks (when transported by boat) or in exterior parking lots for weeks or months, again being exposed to the elements
- at the dealership, the vehicles are almost always poorly prepped using the same dirty water that was used for all the cars on a given day, and poor washing and drying methods leading to swirls and scratches
- at the dealership, a layer of cheap wax or paint sealant is usually applied to attempt to make the paint glossy prior to delivery.

(However, this was a few years back when were investigating the use of organic lipids as a stabilizing agent for a anti-UV coating, so it may not apply)
Side note, out of all the materials, Ti02 (Titanium dioxide) is probably the best bet for any kind of automotive coatings - In my opinion - from doing materials engineering.

My cars:
1- 1985 Garage kept, driving on weekends, never in snow/salt, and very seldom in the rain (meaning only getting caught in it). (lightweight indoor cover)
2. 1979 Outside kept, daily driver, never in snow/salt, Southern exposure in the rear, North and West exposure in front, will need a thicker car cover, waterproof.
My climate:
North East, 4 seasons
Looking for:
My biggest dilemma has been what to use under a car cover (more so the exterior for the daily driver) as I have read so many opposing views on damage to paint using some brands of car covers. I had always assumed that if the car was properly protected, most car covers would be fine, and the vehicle would have protection from the sun, pollen, bird droppings, etc on its own.
Experience:
I have waxed forever, never a ceramic coating, I only want to rinseless clean the garaged vehicle.
I really like the sounds of the Zaino Clear Seal. Seems to fit my needs best.
Looking to get a formation for applying cquartz products soon and upgrade my work
Find a recipe you are comfortable with, and just keep doing it.
And for someone like you, who tested tons of product, tons of working methods, is there someting you like applying and keeping more than others?

The 303 is fantastic. Clay bar, then polish, then 303 gives amazing results and very easy.

Which one is best for appliance applications? Eg, washing machines, fridges, etc.

@@PanTheOrganizer Thank you Pan. I wish that I watched your channel before I paid for that coating.

But for pretty much all other brands, yes get rustproofing and undercoating.
okay im glad you went into that detail, it means you know what youre talking about, now can we get a TLDW, i just need a quick summary in 1 minute.
:)

The ceramic coatings cannot stand automatic car washes. This is a problem for those of us that live in harsh winter weather, where hand washing is difficult. So they are not the most durable in all situations.

@@PanTheOrganizer thank you Pan.

Which product would would work best for protection on a headlight after it’s been restored? To help prevent re-oxidation
A ceramic or graphene coating, the ones in glass bottles for sure. Best durability.
Thank you! Do you have any one in particular that you would call your “go-to”?
For those who do not have a garage to apply these products and have a black car, I do not advise using ceramic products (even if they are spray). If the painting has been exposed to the sun, even for a short time, the product will not stick and will need to be removed.
It's always best practice (and my recommendation) to apply paint protection in the shade (or ideally in a garage), on a cool surface. This is for the best user experience.

Sadly the Mirror Shine doesnt stick to my i30N for some reason, the hood looses the beading after 3-4 weeks, instead of 2-3 months.
