We did the Norte for the second time in 2019 and it rained EVERY DAY (except one) we had storms, thunder &lightning, hail and gales but we finished it 😆 The Primitivo in 2022 at least we know the weather will be better this time. Loving your vlogs Efrèn. Greetings from Australia
Camino Norte, 2nd time round watching and just as stunning 👍 If you are considering a new project in the future Efren maybe the Camino Mozarabe from Almería? By all accounts the longest Camino in Spain (1420 km) and probably less rain.....does sound very tempting ✌️
Efren, you were absolutely right to take the Metro but it's a shame you did not take one down the East side of the river and experience the 125 year old famous BIZKAIA transporter bridge across to Portugalete. It's also a shame you missed the Guggenheim Museum (but not if you are not a modern art fan!......I am not).
Agree with you, Michael...what a miss not seeing the museum, even from the outside...The camino is not only woods and beaches. It is also architecture...The camino is everything that it takes...
There is a bypass road out of Zamudio that bypasses Bilbao to the north. It was a breeze, great walk, wide path along bypass road, and didn’t have to take the metro. Bypass 737, goes to Portugalete, 11 miles. 😊

The 1ST split is at La Imnmaculada Hijas de Jesus ikastetxea (keep left to continue the 228) and 2ND at the intersection Don Bosco Birbilgunea. (I used Waymarked Trails to view this route.)
In the same Albergue and had a great Pelgrims meal with the hospitalier Maria. Slept in the room with 4 beds. You're video is great and brought back good 😊 memories.
There are 3 ways to go fm Bilbao to Portagoleta, the humpback route, up and over the hill to the west approx 17 or 21kms, or walk along the east or west side of the river. I took the east side; flat, easy, 12kms. Many people chose the metro - don't find despair - this stage is industrial yet romantic (for the men).
I did exactly the same things: 1) went to the top of that hill at the end of the day to find the albergue closed, 2) took the metro to Portugalete, Your next week is awesome!!!
Loved the old timer in the cap. Yeah there were some cities where I had zero interest in pounding the pavement, thus hurting my knees. I was there for nature, quiet and trails, a true healer for me, at least. Happy Easter!

at the moment I'm planning to do the 2,000 miles Appalachian Trail in the US starting in mid March. but we'll see. I also want to do the 88 temples in Japan towards the end of next year.

I loved this episode 😍 I miss those cramped albergues with the bunk beds and the communal dinners are always special. Cant wait to do the Del Norte next year 🙃

That albergue in Onton looked wonderful (coffee from a Bialetti moka pot, even!) Its Google listing says it's permanently closed, but the albergue's Facebook page says it's temporary. Hope it's the latter & Giuseppe is just riding out the coronavirus somewhere safe like the rest of us. Thank you for the vlog & Felices Pascuas Efrén!

Happy Easter Efren! We're really enjoying this camino series! It's nice that you included an interaction with a local. On our camino Frances, we had multiple situations where locals were extremely helpful to keep us from making a wrong turn. Especially in the cities where the markings aren't obvious. I also appreciated that you took the subway. You have nothing to prove and it makes sense to skip the section that you skipped. Bravo. We are planning to do the Camino Norte in the next year or so. After watching this stage, especially, I think that we should go in September / October. Maybe we will be able to work a day at the beach into our camino.
1. Sorry, Portugalete is not a suburb, but a town. 2. What happened ? The image is blurred from the beginning of the video. After the 16:00 it got better but not the quality of your videos.
try changing resolution in the video's setting to 1080 or higher. Portugalete could be a country but at the moment on field, on the ground, as I'm walking it is a suburb from my POV 😉. This is not a doc but my experience as I walk.
I love the old man so nice to see that the locals care and give advice about the best routes to take.

You did the right thing , the stage out of Bilbao is a waste of time and energy , it really would be a good idea to just bus or train right through .

I agree with you to skip the metropolitan. Hope you saw the Cathedral in Bilboa. We did the left route and it was great.
The part before Onton was so beautiful. We also slept in Onton.

Hey Efren, What do you do to make the selfie stick disappear in the video?
I do absolutely nothing 😯🤪 it's the Insta360 one X camera and it removes the stick once the two half of the 360 image are stitched.
