Ultra Street Fighter IV was actually where my Street Fighter journey began. I bought it on the PS4 in late 2017 and I was hooked. I learned to love characters like Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Dan, Sakura, Dudley, M. Bison and Akuma, as well as Evil Ryu and Oni and after the 30th Anniversary Collection was released I was inspired to play the other games to the point where I was a fan. And even with the history of it I still think Ultra Street Fighter IV is an awesome game that will always have a place in my heart.
Mine was wit MSH VS SF but wit tha 4th series, it was SF4. SF4 was better in my opinion. Tha intro, music and nationality of tha characters u can see when selecting 'em in tha character select screen. USF4 is nice, but tha f*cking intro and music is just "eh". I like how they brought back characters from Third Strike but man, they f*cked up Hugo's theme. They should've remixed Bottom's Up, tha best Hugo' theme song
Is ultra Street fighter 4 fixed now for the PS4? I saw it on the PSN store, so should I download it or should I not bother? I just wanna make sure it’s not full of glitches.
Fun fact, I work as an ESL teacher in Southern China and there is an arcade at a local mall here that up until 2 years ago still had Super Street Fighter 4 arcade cabinets. Most of them had poorly working buttons because the machines were so old and probably never repaired, but they were there.
I was heavy in to SF4 especially the super version. the FGC exploded with that game. I was going to tournaments in the northeastern US quite often if they were nearby. Then arcade edition came out and while I played it I started to slow down with the game. I never got ultra SF4 as marvel vs capcom 3 was out by the time that version came out so I moved onto that.
This is why I wait for later versions before buying a mainline street fighter. Whatever is the latest version I get I then just stick with it. Sometimes I even buy the older version because it’s a better deal. I don’t have FOMO and am patient.

I loved USF4. When SFxTK was announced, the only reason I cared about it AT ALL was because I figured "Any new SF character that get's added to SFxTK could be ported back into SF4 later." And USF4 was when that happened.
As someone who bought the original SF4 on PC for Windows Live, eventually when Windows Live shut down they offered Ultra SF4 on Steam for free. Guess I was lucky that I wasn't interested in the later editions, saved myself a bit of money.
I actually didn't hate Ulta Street Fighter 4... because I bought it after the abysmal launch of Street Fighter 5. I paid for that game, a new Hori Fight Pad, and a year of PS+. Street Fighter 5 's launch was so bad, I had to get USF4 to justify the subscription and the controller. Before that, I played SF on Xbox 360.
I remember this game also seriously hurt Street Fighter X Tekken, besides the on disc DLC. Most people admitted it seemed like a fun game, but they all held off in getting it cause they were expecting the Super Hyper Turbo edition to come out. Cause no one brought it, Capcom never did it. Also Namco canceled their Tekken X Street Fighter game.
Which is tragic because of how much fun they had with the characters in that game. From dream matchups to sly references to some truly funny stuff that actually fleshed out some of the Tekken characters a bit more.
Well this was yet another update to SF4 but let's not act like the hype for SFxT wasn't there. It was how THAT game handled gems and the on disc DLC. SFxT was an expansion pack for lack of better words so the fatigue from the SF4 aesthetic was real.

Kinda ironic how the two games that made fans rage have the name "Ultra" in it. Shows how people were "Ultra" sick of Capcom's business practices back then.
USF4 has a special place in my heart, one of the first handful of games I ever played, and I think it's my first fighting game (?), that or DOA. Remembering my dad teaching me moves before I was even 10, great times, still play from time to time whether on PC or ps4

I should also mention at the time Super had an arcade version, some operators imported the game from japan and they were able to make a good bit of profit until announcement of the home port hit and all profits plummeted. This coupled by what was required to purchase the game at the time and Capcom's lack of support outside their region was perhaps the biggest kick in the face they ever gave to the arcade industry.
One common complaint at the time was also how Super and Ultra playerbases was kept separate, which made some people mad feeling they had to fork up money just to play online, even if they weren't interested in the new characters. Sure, that were system changes, but it would be outrageous nowadays if a game potentially locked you out of playing online if you didn't bought a character pass, and it made matters worse for how Capcom was spreading it's playerbase thin by flooding the market and having other games with standalone versions like MvC3. And I guess some people also felt USFIV could've had some further balancing... On the PS4 version, at least they bothered fixing it, which isn't as much of a given in the gaming world today.
With Street Fighter 4 being my all time favorite fighting game and the one that made shift away from Nintendo and JRPGs, Ultra Street Fighter 4 is what I consider as the Capcom 21st century fighting game masterpiece. It’s the game I believe new fans should start off with and is in my Mount Rushmore of videogames and it will interesting seeing if Street Fighter 6 can surpass my love for USF4 which there is a chance

Me too. Also I just don't have as much free time as I used to. I had one of the PS3 Street Fighter IVs but ended up hardly ever playing it, so I just stopped buying them. The constant nickel & diming didn't help either.
The season model started by the Killer Instinct reboot is how fighting games operate now, so reselling a game at full price instead of just making it DLC is now a thing of the past.
@@mistervader Capcom wasn’t reselling games at full price. That was an outright lie at the beginning of the video. Super was a $40 disc with AE and Ultra being $15 DLC, or “seasons”. AE and Ultra got disc versions a few months after their DLC upgrade versions dropped and they cost $40 each. And this is pretty similar to what KI did as well, it has a couple disc releases (Combo Breaker and Definitive Edition), KI just didn’t do one for every season, just 1 and 3.
A couple important things you left out, but first, SSFIV was a sequel to SFIV not just an upgrade. This can be seen in the arcade intros/endings. This is similar to Third Strike being a sequel to Second Impact. Second, the FGC demanded USFIV. We didn’t just manifest it, we outright harassed Capcom on every platform we had to do so. Specifically, we demanded Rolento, Hugo, and Poison from SFxTK (the only non-SFIV characters in the Capcom side) be added to SSFIV ver.2012 (which you also didn’t include) as DLC. After 2 years of begging we finally got the announcement for USFIV.
I feel like after street fighter 3 I gave up on street fighter and capcom because they only cater for tournament players with all the updates and don’t care for home console players so long live sf2 unfortunately it’s all about money and not the end user anymore
It is alright in my opinion none of these Were as bad as street fighter 5. I was born in 94 and had been a fan of street fighter almost since its inception. And 5 just did not do it for me however I am excited to see the direction they're going in SF 6 in the more "open world" style. I think there's a lot that can be done with that. for those of us that wait till the price point for a game drops to something reasonable, only to find out that they *cannot* be updated to fix bugs, let alone grabbing DLC including freebies, this is even MORE annoying when you discover the server for the game was shut off YEARS earlier. as in only a couple years after the game's release. and when you have to buy used, or pick up a new console due to either redring or yellow light (there's no repair service around here, and nobody will touch an "antique"), and end up losing WHAT YOU'VE ALREADY PAID FOR to obsoleting servers to save space, well, you tend to throw in the towel. SF4 is the only intact survivor on my hard drive, as I had to swap consoles due to a red ring. everything else, including the hard to get darktalkers collection rerelease, dropped to DEMO! including purchased DLC and games won through giveaways.
I bought Ultra SF4 on the PS3.I never bought the PS4 version. I am a firm supporter of physical media. So I have no issue buying new updated version of game on disc. I rather buy another version game on disc, than buy the extra content as DLC that I don't technically own.
I was a part of the FGC. I played multiple tournaments with Xian, Infiltration and Big Bird (name Evil Yoshi). No one was upset with USF4. Yes Elena was tough to play against; but not unbeatable. Look at the top 8 in the last Capcom Cup. How many Elena were there?
i found a tesco which had priced up ultra street fighter 4 as just normal sf4 which was on sale for a 10er. this version had just been released. i played it for a week and then traded it in at CEX for £20 store credit. good times.
Conversion here and there. I don't care. Even though SF6 is awesome, I still like how the characters play in USF4 and how everything looks and feels and sounds. The only thing I really hate is this cheap Seth for a final boss. That went SNK level 1000 fast. First Seth lets you kinda win the first round and in round two he throws everything at you he forgot to do in round one with vengeance.
I'll take a version of a game released with bugs that the company can work on fixing while I'm playing over a perfect version released weeks or months later any day
i just wish Ultra Street Fighter IV got ported to the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo ain't getting Street Fighter 6, and i believe Street Fighter V was a Sony exclusive. Nintendo has worked with Street Fighter IV once already on the 3DS. a Street Fighter game on the Nintendo Switch with a massive roster and better graphics would be amazing, and i think Ultra Street Fighter IV would be perfect. i would still, in 2023, LOVE for that to happen.
I bought that game 3 times 🤦🏻♂️ I hated when they did that .. same wit Mortal Kombat X .. and Gears of War .. you spend so much money on all these DLCs and then they release the game much cheaper wit all the DLC included.. kind of sucked because it felt like they ripped off the true fans and the ones who supported the games from the beginning.. 🤷🏻♂️
Hold up; I'm pretty sure SSF4 wasn't released at Full Price, I even seem to recall IGN saying in their review that Capcom wasn't charging full price. Normally I don't listen to what IGN says but this was 1 of the times they seemed to get something right.

This game really misses the point. Never-again characters like Decapre, Elena, and Rolento (to an extent) were by far the worst parts about USF4. Not having to pay a few dollars more. Once that minor inconvenience of a fee was paid, the hundreds of hours inferior gameplay were way more impactful.
Ok I thought this disk was just the 4 with new characters. Ive not even played it. I own it. Ultra with Hugo and Rolento. Why do they always draw Chun-li with her catchers mitt hanging out all the time. Damn horny bastards. Even the last version of USF4 on ps4 seems unbalanced to me to be honest! It is like they made it more broken than the ps3 version i think,i have witnessed things that couldn't happen in the ps3 version! 🤔 The result having a bad ballanced USF4 in ps4 was a signs for how capcom or cashcom getting lazy,and all those versions that they are not good liars! Though i love the company,i do have complaints for them like those allot of times.
my biggest problem with the game is u can't turn the music volume off... if u go in the menu and turn down the music volume, it only goes down to the last notch, it doesn't go off... so if u play music from spotify while u play the game, the regular music is still playing at a low volume.. they should have patched that
I have the Xbox port, SSF4 Arcade, with the Ultra patch. It’s ok, and I don’t complain. But yea, the Ultra moniker needs to go. Please don’t do it with SF6.
It would be highly redundant for Capcom to release 'Ultra SF6', considering that they already released 'SF6: Ultimate Edition' - which doesn't even include Colors 3-10 for the base roster's default costumes. Capcom clearly didn't understand what the term 'Ultimate' meant.
I always love the sf upgrades, sf4 vanilla was lacking that sf craziness then hakan was shown and I needed super sf4, street fighter 6 looks gummy last gen graphics. Meanwhile if you want mvc2 on current consoles you I have to beg capcom to add grooming so Disney will care. The sad state of gaming.
So I do like the street fighter series, but my plan after I got a PS3 was to see, research what the last revision of SF4 was gonna be. And I remember Super SF4 was going to be the last revision. So bought it when it was around $15 or something like that. I don’t think it was 2 weeks and I walked into GameStop and saw Arcade Edition. I was ticked off. I didn’t upgrade because I didn’t want to keep buying and keep buying. It was only 3 years ago maybe that at my local used game store that they had ultra. PS3 being long done by this point, I upgraded to ultra from super on ps3. I was annoyed they even said anything back then. And annoyed I believed it. Took many years but I did get the definitive version ofSF4
As someone who deems both SF5 & SF6 terrible and broken. Even I have to admit that key characters in Ultra SF4 are far worse then anything presented in newer games. Even thought the fighting engine is better in SF4 overall. Super Street Fighter 4 arcade edition with the 2012 patch was the LAST great Street Fighter game. from SF4 Ultra onward its all been cheep trash.

Definitely and this game was the epitome of cheap character buffs for power moves creating such unbalanced gameplay, taking away what was great about SF2/3. Also, playing this game against CPU is simply not fun.
not to mention the new characters and stages in Ultra were all pulled from Street Fighter x Tekken, and Decapre was a copy of Cammy with some new moves. So nothing new, just recycling, Capcom style.
Hey TopHat, I may be in the minority but I was very disappointed by SF4 when it released for the 360. Maybe it was the controller that i never found conducive to 2d fighters 🤔 Didn't like it at all
The game certainly has it's fair share of detractors today, in fact I am likely going to cover why many people do not like Street Fighter IV in a future upload.
By far the biggest mistake made in the SF4 cycle was the inclusion of Dufus. Sincerely hope Capcom kills off the character in the background, and he's never referenced again afterward.

USF4 is still my all time favorite fighting game. I still play it occasionally whereas my copy of SF5 might as well be a coaster.

I’m curious why Capcom specifically. The DLC model they started with SSFIV’s add ons is the one still used by every fighting game today.

So the Xbox 360 baled out Capcom's pro tournament, how did they say thank you? They made Street fighter V Playstation console exclusive.

for those of us that wait till the price point for a game drops to something reasonable, only to find out that they *cannot* be updated to fix bugs, let alone grabbing DLC including freebies, this is even MORE annoying when you discover the server for the game was shut off YEARS earlier. as in only a couple years after the game's release. and when you have to buy used, or pick up a new console due to either redring or yellow light (there's no repair service around here, and nobody will touch an "antique"), and end up losing WHAT YOU'VE ALREADY PAID FOR to obsoleting servers to save space, well, you tend to throw in the towel. SF4 is the only intact survivor on my hard drive, as I had to swap consoles due to a red ring. everything else, including the hard to get darktalkers collection rerelease, dropped to DEMO! including purchased DLC and games won through giveaways.

I bought Ultra SF4 on the PS3.I never bought the PS4 version. I am a firm supporter of physical media. So I have no issue buying new updated version of game on disc. I rather buy another version game on disc, than buy the extra content as DLC that I don't technically own.
Same reason why I have Ultra SF4 on XBox 360, needed a true physical copy.

I was a part of the FGC. I played multiple tournaments with Xian, Infiltration and Big Bird (name Evil Yoshi). No one was upset with USF4. Yes Elena was tough to play against; but not unbeatable. Look at the top 8 in the last Capcom Cup. How many Elena were there?
Regardless, I still enjoy playing Street Fighter games.
i found a tesco which had priced up ultra street fighter 4 as just normal sf4 which was on sale for a 10er. this version had just been released. i played it for a week and then traded it in at CEX for £20 store credit. good times.
Conversion here and there. I don't care. Even though SF6 is awesome, I still like how the characters play in USF4 and how everything looks and feels and sounds. The only thing I really hate is this cheap Seth for a final boss. That went SNK level 1000 fast. First Seth lets you kinda win the first round and in round two he throws everything at you he forgot to do in round one with vengeance.
I'll take a version of a game released with bugs that the company can work on fixing while I'm playing over a perfect version released weeks or months later any day

i just wish Ultra Street Fighter IV got ported to the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo ain't getting Street Fighter 6, and i believe Street Fighter V was a Sony exclusive. Nintendo has worked with Street Fighter IV once already on the 3DS. a Street Fighter game on the Nintendo Switch with a massive roster and better graphics would be amazing, and i think Ultra Street Fighter IV would be perfect. i would still, in 2023, LOVE for that to happen.

I bought that game 3 times 🤦🏻♂️ I hated when they did that .. same wit Mortal Kombat X .. and Gears of War .. you spend so much money on all these DLCs and then they release the game much cheaper wit all the DLC included.. kind of sucked because it felt like they ripped off the true fans and the ones who supported the games from the beginning.. 🤷🏻♂️

Hold up; I'm pretty sure SSF4 wasn't released at Full Price, I even seem to recall IGN saying in their review that Capcom wasn't charging full price. Normally I don't listen to what IGN says but this was 1 of the times they seemed to get something right.

This game really misses the point. Never-again characters like Decapre, Elena, and Rolento (to an extent) were by far the worst parts about USF4. Not having to pay a few dollars more. Once that minor inconvenience of a fee was paid, the hundreds of hours inferior gameplay were way more impactful.

Even the last version of USF4 on ps4 seems unbalanced to me to be honest! It is like they made it more broken than the ps3 version i think,i have witnessed things that couldn't happen in the ps3 version! 🤔 The result having a bad ballanced USF4 in ps4 was a signs for how capcom or cashcom getting lazy,and all those versions that they are not good liars! Though i love the company,i do have complaints for them like those allot of times.

my biggest problem with the game is u can't turn the music volume off... if u go in the menu and turn down the music volume, it only goes down to the last notch, it doesn't go off... so if u play music from spotify while u play the game, the regular music is still playing at a low volume.. they should have patched that

I always love the sf upgrades, sf4 vanilla was lacking that sf craziness then hakan was shown and I needed super sf4, street fighter 6 looks gummy last gen graphics. Meanwhile if you want mvc2 on current consoles you I have to beg capcom to add grooming so Disney will care. The sad state of gaming.

So I do like the street fighter series, but my plan after I got a PS3 was to see, research what the last revision of SF4 was gonna be. And I remember Super SF4 was going to be the last revision. So bought it when it was around $15 or something like that. I don’t think it was 2 weeks and I walked into GameStop and saw Arcade Edition. I was ticked off. I didn’t upgrade because I didn’t want to keep buying and keep buying. It was only 3 years ago maybe that at my local used game store that they had ultra. PS3 being long done by this point, I upgraded to ultra from super on ps3. I was annoyed they even said anything back then. And annoyed I believed it. Took many years but I did get the definitive version ofSF4

As someone who deems both SF5 & SF6 terrible and broken. Even I have to admit that key characters in Ultra SF4 are far worse then anything presented in newer games. Even thought the fighting engine is better in SF4 overall. Super Street Fighter 4 arcade edition with the 2012 patch was the LAST great Street Fighter game. from SF4 Ultra onward its all been cheep trash.

Definitely and this game was the epitome of cheap character buffs for power moves creating such unbalanced gameplay, taking away what was great about SF2/3. Also, playing this game against CPU is simply not fun.
not to mention the new characters and stages in Ultra were all pulled from Street Fighter x Tekken, and Decapre was a copy of Cammy with some new moves. So nothing new, just recycling, Capcom style.

By far the biggest mistake made in the SF4 cycle was the inclusion of Dufus. Sincerely hope Capcom kills off the character in the background, and he's never referenced again afterward.
