So much of this is wrong. SF4 was in development before the pitch for HD Remix. It's possible the success of the sloppy HF port on XBL encouraged them to make a new title, but it seems like SF4 was in the planning stages even before then. HD Remix was largely a pitch from Backbone (likely with pressing by Sirlin) based on the large success of HF for XBL and Puzzle Fighter HD Remix. Capcom never took the initiative for the HD Remix project, although they tried to take credit for it after it blew up in popularity.
Thank you the timeline is way off in relation to IV/HD remix and justifications are speculative at best. Pretty sure IV pushed the popularity for Hd remix the way I remember hearing about it and such. It was a passion project though!
I'm no competitive SF player, but I think Ultra is probably the best iteration of SF2. The price tag is FAR too steep (Maybe $30 would be acceptable in some cases, but $20-25 would fit better). Its other issue is its locked to the Switch. Which makes it much less available to the public. If it was at least on Steam I'm sure there'd be more exposure.
I get why it was there initially, but like Tatsunoko vs Capcom before it the fact that those games aren't available elsewhere (except emulation) is a shame. Though I get that licensing may play a part.
As a Switch owner, I refuse to buy it. I would rather play it on my PS5 or PC. It would have been fine as a timed exclusive, but still not being on any other platform is silly.
I agree it should be ported elsewhere. At this rate with there being so many revisions of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo there could be a collection based on just those games. That said I would be happy with a PC / Steam port of SSF2HD Remix or Final Challengers
You definitely are not a competitive SF player if you think Ultra is the best iteration of SF2. In fact, that opinion would strongly suggest that you haven't a clue about SF2. Ultra is terrible.
@@Eclipse2582 I hate the competitive scene I have been playing Street Fighter since it was released in the Arcades. All that the competitive scene has done is suck the fun out of the game with the obsession with balance. You guys live in an echo chamber where the result was Street Fighter V that removed the Arcade mode. You all defended that and guess what the game didn't sell until they added it back 😋
Good thing it goes on sale often. Super Turbo was my favorite Street Fighter game until Ultra. The only real problem I have with it is that it is way too difficult to perform the Raging Demon in this version. I can pull it off fine in every other version of Street Fighter, but for some strange reason it is much more difficult to do it in Ultra.
After sitting on this a little longer, I had to add this… I cannot officially verify this, but based on experiences in actively being in parts of creative media projects, I’ve always had this take on the naming. The narrative of the naming “Violent Ken” rather than “Evil Ken”, Evil Ryu was already well established after being made official with the fact he became a player character in official SF game titles. Evil Ryu even has a fully fleshed background, and with the fact Satsui No Hado has a dark side, makes the “Evil” name more of a fit to add on to Ryu, as he has to accept into its evil intent. Being that names already was in issue in their earlier issues, being the original 4 bosses in swapping for regional differences, it has to be sure it will fit and stand for times to come. Now with the fact Capcom has never integrated an evil version of Ken, the games that same “Violent Ken” is without of a doubt based on the mind control of the movie, and SNK was well versed with that much of the title, and being they have the relationship with capcom, they got to have creative freedom to naming him how they want for that version. Going “Evil” on the naming for Ken didn’t seem to have a good fit, as his transformation was not induced to accepting into the darkness of the Satsui No Hado, but rather forcing his Psycho Energy into him, and gaining access to controlling him how his wanted, in which, he wanted a very strong fighting mind puppet. He knew how strong Ken was, and was hoping him to take down Ryu being that they are the best of sparring partners with history. Making Ken go overdrive with no mind control for himself would make him a pretty “violent” man…. That’s just my take I’ve always had.
I mean, I could see why people were upset. full price for a game that's basically a moderately upgraded version of SSF2T: HD Remix with some stupid tacked-on motion control minigame? (I honestly didn't bother with it reviews said it wasn't much fun) I will say if you can find it on sale for 20 the main game stuff is definitely worth playing around with I mean it IS basically SSF2T at its core, with both the HDR artwork/new remixes and the original sprites/music in 4:3, and the additional new characters are kinda fun to mess around with (although Violent Ken is stupid broken IMO definitely right up there with Shin Akuma) also I do like the new music far more than the OCR stuff in HD Remix honestly.
I remember when I was a kid hanging in the arcades, for Streetfighter 2 Champion Edition there was a rumour going around that when the AI Ken was in his red outfit, he was more aggressive and was given the nickname Violent Ken.
I had street fighter 2 Turbo!! I played it for years, finished it on hard quite a few times! Ken was my favourite, but I could play them all! Brings back great memories!
I always wanted a remake of Streetfighter 1 with every character selectable, new moves, sprite based art style, and updated gameplay mechanic with things such as parrying and super combos etc
Preserving and re-releasing onto modern platforms is what Capcom Fighting Collection is for. Nobody ask the company for ULTRA Street Fighter II, most fans asked for Capcom vs. SNK 3.
I personally love Ultra Street Fighter II. In my opinion it is the best version of SFII as it’s really well balanced. Throws used to do stupid amounts of damage in SFII iterations until this one came out. Also I affectionately call the Way of the Hadou mode Virtual Ryu mode. Also in my opinion the graphics for “Virtual Ryu” look a bit more like SFIV when it comes to Ryu himself.
I absolutely love this version of Street Fighter 2! At the time the Switch was badly in need of any Street Fighter Game so this game couldn't have come at a better time.
Expensive or not, I have Ultra Street Fighter II, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, and Capcom Fighting Collection and I love all the Street a fighter action. Of course, I’m a nut, so….
HDRemix is hands down the best version of 2T, and I really wish they'd bring it back on pc, I'd buy it in a heartbeat, and I know many others who would as well
I really feel like the problem. that people had with ultra was valid, but it’s still a very good upgrade, especially with the new characters and better graphics.
I actually found USF2 to be my favorite version of the game. It added some content and modes I wish was in more games. But I can understand why people don't like the game. It's a rather pricey port, I feel the price was made because of the art gallery. As said gallery is basically pages from one of capcoms most expensive art books that can be bought at the same price.
When they added Street Fighter to the Fighting Compilation that came out this year, I felt that was another kick in the nuts given they had other fighting games in their library that could have easily been a good replacement for Street Fighter after making 3 more Street Fighter games within 6 years of each other.

I love Ultra Street Fighter 2, but I wish lazy Capcom would give the game an update patch. I want the update patch to fix Violent Ken and Evil Ryu. By the way, you forgot to mention Shin Akuma/Shin Gouki. He is a hidden character in the game. Like Violent Ken and Evil Ryu, Shin Akuma/Shin Gouki is a broken fighter. I also want the update patch to allow Shin Akuma/Shin Gouki to be playable online.
Only thing I can see is the price for a quote old game. Nowadays it's constantly on sale 50% off. So would 20 bucks have been a better price at launch?
Who's outraged? This is the most cringe review I've ever watched. What's expensive? Were lucky that video games have not gone up in price like everything else in life. Just to go out to eat for two people cost more than this game.

The most perfected version of Street Fighter 2 is Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo in which it's not perfect but really close to being perfect ...this guy doesn't know what he's talking about all he's trying to do is make money with the commercials and the views that he gets from TH-cam
“Why did Capcom charge $40?” because they knew they could get away with it. Why did I buy it, because I was desperate to play a fighting game on my Switch in 2017 😅
It was a great video about half truths, And not the overall opinions of actual fans of the game. If you read the comments most people didn't agree with very much on this videos.
The final challengers still plays much better than the collection as it is a native port. The collection versions are emulated and the Switch version of those games have the most latency/input lag of any version of those games
I absolutely hated online play in this game. Nothing but Violent Kens and Hadoken/Shoryuken spam everywhere. I regret buying the 8bitdo arcade stick specifically for this game. Game was sold 1 week later.
No no no, USF2T is NOT like HD Remix. The only similarities lay in the graphics, other than that no, HDR !== USF2T, they kept none of the amazing balance changes that HDR had and they literally just reskinned SSF2T and slapped VIolent Ken and Evil Ryu on it. There is no comparing the two, really.
HDremix, "We balanced Akuma so he is fair, balanced and not banned." A few weeks later..... "Akuma is even more broken than before we messed with him, he's banned" LOL
One on one fighting occurred before Street Fighter, there was Karate Champ and Yie Ar Kung-Fu in 1984. Actually Yie Ar Kung-Fu was the first one on one fighter to include an energy bar, special moves, and a female character, Star the first lady of fighting games.
You do know this game added three characters right you got violent Ken, Evil Ryu, and the Hidden character shin akuma or Shin Goki if in Japan so the character count in this versions actually 20 not 19
I just picked this up second hand today. Call it the collector in me, but I do enjoy it. It was “more of the same”. It is really an amazing game, maybe revisions in this case was the way to go, not many games can pull off the “revision” card. I feel a game needs to be great and significant to justify this practice, and true it is “lazy” but the safer bet
You forgot that Street Fighter II, Street Fighter II Turbo, and Super Street Fighter II are available as DLC to Capcom Arcade Collection on Switch for $1.99 each. And Hyper Street Fighter II for Capcom Arcade Second Collection for $3.99.
Yeah. There should have been more characters. It would have been cool for all the characters who never were playable in street fighter 1 to be in the roster.
It also needs to be mentioned that in the original SF2, Chun Li didn't have a fireball move, that was introduced in the first upgrade, this was also one of the changes from the original
I have spent 2 weeks of my life on this version of the game literally. I love it but it is broken evil Ryu is just too powerful in the right hands . I really wish there were updates to address the unbalances and that they put in a tournament feature like in the hd remix . This version runs so much smoother than the 30th anniversary collection on the switch which is unplayable in my opinion I don’t know why but it’s absolutely garbage online whereas ultra street fighter runs great and I regret nothing about purchasing it I would have paid more probably
I do apologize. I honestly thought the Joy-cons would make perfect tools for learning the Ansatsuken style technique. I suppose the "real" world isn't ready for such power just yet.
I would consider My self as a Street Figher fanatic but over the years Capcom have been doing the same thing over countless times. I do have most of many games over different consoles through out the years, I enjoy them nostalgically but I've always noticed that Capcom would make "just another Street Fighter" game & always seemed to get away with selling them under the guise of a "Capcom VS /Battle Royale" tittle which you'll think Capcom should diverse the line-up immensely. This leads to whether Capcom own the rights to the games/characters or are the owned by different companies. When it's Street Figher related we all know part of the hymn sheet to sing from, when Capcom related mix it up more.

Thank you the timeline is way off in relation to IV/HD remix and justifications are speculative at best. Pretty sure IV pushed the popularity for Hd remix the way I remember hearing about it and such. It was a passion project though!
I like Ultra Street Fighter 2. Glad to have it in my Switch library.
I personally loved Ultra SF 2 on the nintendo switch. Put in many hours and had a ton of fun.
Hearing "Ray-you" still kills me to this day. Nice video~
USF2 had a watered down version of Violent Ken as compared to the SvC Chaos version.
It's SFII, everyone is nerfed in that game to the point where we only have one super combo.
always looking forward too yor videos every Thurs n Sun...Yeeeaaa
After sitting on this a little longer, I had to add this…
I cannot officially verify this, but based on experiences in actively being in parts of creative media projects, I’ve always had this take on the naming.
(I honestly didn't bother with it reviews said it wasn't much fun)
I will say if you can find it on sale for 20 the main game stuff is definitely worth playing around with I mean it IS basically SSF2T at its core, with both the HDR artwork/new remixes and the original sprites/music in 4:3, and the additional new characters are kinda fun to mess around with (although Violent Ken is stupid broken IMO definitely right up there with Shin Akuma) also I do like the new music far more than the OCR stuff in HD Remix honestly.
I remember when I was a kid hanging in the arcades, for Streetfighter 2 Champion Edition there was a rumour going around that when the AI Ken was in his red outfit, he was more aggressive and was given the nickname Violent Ken.
For me, Ultra SF2 was the reason to buy a Switch! And even though it's on the SF 30th Anniversary Collection, SSF2T is stupid tough!
Part of me still wants buy this tho
I never thought someone would still talk about this.
I can’t wait for Ultra Street Fighter 2 Turbo!!!
I’m I the only one pissed that he is pronouncing Ryu’s name wrong?!?!
#Capcom WE LOVE Ultra Street Fighter 2, please make a an switch exclusive remake of Street Fighter 3 and Alpha 3.
To be fair, at least Capcom is putting some effort into game preservation, re-releasing their classics on modern platforms, unlike other companies.
Preserving and re-releasing onto modern platforms is what Capcom Fighting Collection is for.
Nobody ask the company for ULTRA Street Fighter II, most fans asked for Capcom vs. SNK 3.
My guess is if this is the last iteration of sf2 ever and locked to Nintendo, Nintendo can justify the price as it is the last version of a legend.
I love that you're channel focuses on these niche stories about Street fighter. And everything retro-gaming. Awesome stuff.
I bought ultra 2 over the summer and it’s amazing people online still go at it to this day
When they added Street Fighter to the Fighting Compilation that came out this year, I felt that was another kick in the nuts given they had other fighting games in their library that could have easily been a good replacement for Street Fighter after making 3 more Street Fighter games within 6 years of each other.
Actually:
Violent Ken is from Street Fighter the Animated Movie.
I gotta be honest...I'm a long time fan and subscriber, who's had a good 5 or 6 months away from TH-cam...but God DAMN!! Have I just realised how much I've missed this channel in particular. Top quality work as always my brother... I doff my cap Sir.
I mean, I quit Capcom after they released another version of sf4 after they specifically said they wouldn't. I can emulate the old games. I'm good.
It's a shame this never came to PC.
As always your Street Fighter skills are strong! Love watch your combos that I never seen before.
Alpha 3 is so underrated, and should be as popular as any SSF2T series
I remember when Evil Ryu and Violent Ken were pretty trendy. Reminds me of myself and a friend of mine who decided to call ourselves "Chocolate Chaos" and "Vanilla Violence."
honestly, currupted Ken would have made more sense lore wise for V.Ken's name
considering that he's Ken but brainwashed by Bison
Super Street Fighter II Turbo: HD Remix for PS3 was sweet AF...and it only cost $15!
I really wish they would update it for the reasons you mentioned and maybe a way of punishing rage quitters. Monthly leaderboards and tournament modes
I sincerely hope Capcom keeps milking SFII until the end of time.
This top hat guy whatever his name is doesn't understand that Capcom perfected Street Fighter 2 they don't have any competitions for Street Fighter 2 world warrior because all the Guile glitches or Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition because it's slow and not balanced or Street Fighter 2 Hyper Turbo not balanced either or even Super Street Fighter 2 New Challengers is slow... The most perfected version of Street Fighter 2 is Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo in which it's not perfect but really close to being perfect ...this guy doesn't know what he's talking about all he's trying to do is make money with the commercials and the views that he gets from TH-cam
Ultra Street Fighter 2 is, unironicly, my favorite version of SF2 ❤❤❤
It's pretty simple: people can only get excited about Street Fighter II so many times. I love SFII, but it's been re-released over 20 times.
Best sf2 version. Needs to be on other consoles
“Why did Capcom charge $40?” because they knew they could get away with it.
Why did I buy it, because I was desperate to play a fighting game on my Switch in 2017 😅
I bought SF2 on the snes from Fenwick in Brent Cross for £65 back in 1992.
£35 30 years later is a steal…
Great video, just one thing: Ryu is read as "Ree-you" not "Rai-you" though.
no one cares
@@southendbusker7534 speak for yourself
It was a great video about half truths, And not the overall opinions of actual fans of the game. If you read the comments most people didn't agree with very much on this videos.
Ryu's name is fluently pronounced as "Diu" (as in rhyming with *Liu* from MK).
I love this version of street fighter!
The final challengers still plays much better than the collection as it is a native port.
The collection versions are emulated and the Switch version of those games have the most latency/input lag of any version of those games
I’ll take 2D sprites over polygons any day for SF.
That and KoF! After two games, I still can't get into the series as I was with KoF13!
@@walterlucero5757 Exactly :-)
just not the hd remix ones, which are awful.
@@jrs4516 I love them! I love that Anime/Comic book art style!
I bought it when it was on sale for $19.99, love it!
This is how dlc was done back in the day.
It would be sooo cool if they made SF1 characters playable there with older designs remade for the game, that'd be sick!
I absolutely hated online play in this game. Nothing but Violent Kens and Hadoken/Shoryuken spam everywhere. I regret buying the 8bitdo arcade stick specifically for this game. Game was sold 1 week later.
On the other hand, it would be very strange to fit a "new" character into such a legacy game.
This guy made a 18 min video just to say that the game is expensive...
You do know this game added three characters right you got violent Ken, Evil Ryu, and the Hidden character shin akuma or Shin Goki if in Japan so the character count in this versions actually 20 not 19
What capcom needs to do is re-release all of the VS series games.
the only thing outrageous is not hearing @Lady Decade say " I L L E E E E E E G A L " at 2:34
I just picked this up second hand today.
AaaaaaEee❤😂😂😂😂😂❤😂❤😅
❤❤❤😂😂😂🎉🎉😮😮
You forgot that Street Fighter II, Street Fighter II Turbo, and Super Street Fighter II are available as DLC to Capcom Arcade Collection on Switch for $1.99 each. And Hyper Street Fighter II for Capcom Arcade Second Collection for $3.99.
I'm playing Ultra SF2 for free on emulation😁
Hyper SF2 is still my favorite.
Yeah. There should have been more characters. It would have been cool for all the characters who never were playable in street fighter 1 to be in the roster.
It was irrelevant to begin with because it was exclusive to Switch.
I love ultra sf 2 but gawd DAMN there’s so many versions lmao
If they fixed bugs then there will never be ultra street fighter 2 TURBO!!

Ultra Street Fighter 2 Turbo: The Last One We Promise
I do apologize. I honestly thought the Joy-cons would make perfect tools for learning the Ansatsuken style technique. I suppose the "real" world isn't ready for such power just yet.
I wonder why they haven't released it for other consoles.
Nice of you to finally get to the main topic 60% of the way through the video
I would consider My self as a Street Figher fanatic but over the years Capcom have been doing the same thing over countless times.
I do have most of many games over different consoles through out the years, I enjoy them nostalgically but I've always noticed that
Capcom would make "just another Street Fighter" game & always seemed to get away with selling them under the guise of a "Capcom VS
/Battle Royale" tittle which you'll think Capcom should diverse the line-up immensely. This leads to whether Capcom own the rights to
the games/characters or are the owned by different companies. When it's Street Figher related we all know part of the hymn sheet to sing
from, when Capcom related mix it up more.
Just started watching your videos and now that I think about it... you look like Gene Wilder, the guy who played as Willy Wonka. You got that Gene Wilder expression lol. Anyways, I love your content.
Hah! The same condescending smirk I guess.
@@TopHatGamingManChannel yes sir. I got a lot of different kinds of hats.
I hope Violent Ken is included in more games
I feel like Capcom inadvertently foreshadowed today's gaming updates strategy
Hint: it never came on anything other than the switch thus losing 90% of the fighting game playerbase
You basically said all the points I was angry about also in one video lol. The switch exclusivity, the price, the missed opportunity of adding totally new characters, the balance, and lack of content...
I bought it on Switch when it eventually went on sale for 50% off. Super Turbo in the Anniversary Collection has a broken arcade mode that's insanely hard!
Same thing on the xbox smh
It wasn't just that people were getting burnt out on fighting games. It was also that Capcoms new games were either re-releases with VERY minor tweaks, or they would release a new game but just copy paste sprite work from existing assets and throw them in.
And the music is worse on this version too
