Don't know about other light novel readers, but as LN Reader myself, I'll give this adaption an 8/10,it could have been a 9/10, if the animation was more consistent and if the sports festival was fully adapted, but I appreciate what I got, can't wait for season 3 and hopefully lerche take their time and give great animation for each episode

@@windieskf2625 because it's a lot of clutter. The line in the anime conveys the same message without wasting footage or giving unnecessary details.
@@windieskf2625 Because that line would misinterpret Ayanokouji's character. Everything in anime is amplified, because there is less space. So things your character can casually think among sea of other thoughts, will have MUCH more weight in a 23 minute episode.
For example, if character can have 300 thoughts during multiple chapters, in anime episode it's gonna be cut to 30. Because 270 thoughts are missing, those 30 thoughts' weight is multiplied.
30 thoughts are bound to be less accurate than 300, simply because there's less data. So it's important to stick to the core, otherwise you're gonna misinterpret a character.

What im sad that they missed in the Anime was that, when Ibuki was trying to convince Ryuuen not to drop out, he tried to shut her out. Basically he was telling her that he had planned to Betray Class C anyways, and that there was no point in him staying any longer. He told her that he wanted to save enough points for himself so he could buy his right to be placed in Class A. However Ibuki had seen on his Phone Calendar that actually he didnt plan to save up 2 Million Private Points, but a whole 400 Mill, just so he could buy the right for his whole class. That just showed a little of Ryuuens character which I actually liked. He may be an Ass, but hes^wouldnt sell you out.
About that final scene... Remember how Arisu's father knows Kiyotaka's father?

I’ve seen a lot of discourse over anime ayanokoji vs LN ayanokoji and I’d like to say I enjoy the differences. Where LN koji is wanting to express the feelings and expressions he has, anime koji is trying to even allow himself to have those feelings. His unfeeling demeanor looks like it’ll be a core problem he wants to overcome. Kind of like a more extreme version of LN koji. It’s interesting

Yeah, as much as i remember he didn't say anything about her not being worthy. He said something about him having problems regarding his emotions.
He wasnt that brutal in the light novel, he understands people emotion and rejected Sato in a way that wont hurt her. The light novel version of him is so good that its so sad the anime turn him into this edgy MC with not much depth

Good episode, but to be honest, it's a bit disappointing, because in LN Kiyotaka and Kei's parts are filled with romantic and refreshing scenes, but the studio turned it bad as if Kiyotaka was just using Kei. I think they want to make the ending like the first season (a tool monologue). But yknow, actually Kiyotaka wasn't that evil, at that moment he wanted to feel emotions with Kei as his partner, and said Kei would be an important figure for him in the future. But still peak episode!
Also, i really like the fact that Ryuen is trying to get himself drop out and doesn't want to involve the others (Ishizaki, Albert, and Ibuki). Ryuen is a dictator, but he always prioritizes his class. That's why he's the best villain in the series!

@@TheFavs1993first year vol 4, 5, 6, 7. Season two was supposed to include vol 4.5 but this volume was adapted in the first season episode 7. I recommend reading the LN version because the content is much different from the anime.

I'm glad yall noticed that Kiyotaka doesn't want to be the way he is. So many people in the CotE community ironically idolize his "everyone is a tool mentality" but there's a sizeable majority of the people that completely miss the point of the series being that Kiyotaka disagrees with the education his father gave him, and wants to experience the real world.

Oh man they cut a lot of stuff, i was looking forward to seeing the scene where they met the new council president on their date and Kei tried to make Ayanokoji look bad on purpose in front of Sato on their date.
they adapted basically 1 volume into 1 episode so its not that surprising.
They got low budget, saving it from season3, ln readers definitely don't know how to appreciate something 😂

Ayanakoji wants a normal life. Dude was raised in the white room had no childhood nada. He is the perfect human but the only thing he has never had was a childhood so he only does things that benefit him. Him beating the livin crap out of ryuen was him playin strategy cause now ryuen respects ayanakoji and aknowledges him as the tribal chief.

I think technically his plan for Kei failed. He mentions how he would show up right before her breaking point but Kei actually overcame her feelings and was resolute at the moment he entered.
Ayanokouji could probably beat them all but that is White Room style life. He doesnt want that. He wants something else
Really wish the subs was more accurate to the LN. He's definitely put in a more harsh and sociopathic light in the anime (especially the Crunchyroll subs) than the LN where he is more thoughtful and shown that he does think about others.
Though to be fair, I think CotE wouldn't be as big as it currently is without him being the way he is.
Also props to the bud who did the substiles on the anime in this video, it far better captures that it isn't that Satou is unworthy of his smile, but that she can't bring it out of him. It's a subtle difference, but it drastically changes the whole dynamic. It's more he understands how damaged he is, that despite being so adept at everything, he simply isn't at a stage where he can even consider friendship, let alone a relationship. It's puts the burden from Satou onto him, and that makes him far more likeable.
I've noticed it before, but that Paris jersey Lupa has is fire! With French heritage, I'm always a fan of French teams, I want to buy one!

The "Unworthy of Smiling For" line is an anime original or a translation error, pretty sure that wasn't what he thought of
Here's how it actually went:
“But you still didn’t have fun, did you? I mean, you didn’t smile.”

I had no idea whether Satou believed me. She probably thought I said that to console her. Truthfully, I might still disappoint her. I just didn't feel the way about her that she clearly felt about me, so, in a sense, her concerns about my not having fun weren't entirely off the mark. I had enjoyed hanging out, but I hadn't enjoyed it in the way Satou hoped.
Ayanokoji's personality portrayed in the anime is too cruel to the point that it seems like he doesn't understand people's emotions when in fact he actually exhibits extreme cognitive empathy. He's not able to show his emotions but he understands people's emotions/perspective very well. He rejected Sato in arguably the best way possible, with enough care to not hurt her feelings but at the same time convey what he actually feels and not lead her on.
Its a pity bro. The anime will produce more edgy and cringey "tools 🥶🥶" fans. Ayanokoji in the light novel is such an amazingly written character , but the anime just turn him into this edgy mediocre character that some of the fans will eat up
I'm anime only but understood the scene in a similar sense in which you explained.
The words Ayanokoji used to reject Sato were very well chosen. He showed consideration to her feelings and in no way was unnecessarily cruel. This wouldn't have been possible if he acted on pure intellect and zero empathy.
The fact that Ayanokoji uses his understanding of others for his own ends is a different story.

I think it couldv'e been better if they end it off after tsukishiro because it's the introduction of a new antag that's going to be around for a while. False. That was only his plan, he wanted all of his class to move up to Class A. That would require him 800M points in total as each student has to pay 20M points in order to change classes and there are 40 students in each class (in the LN). He didn't actually have 800M points lol.

I know Ayanokouji seems like to be a very cold and smart charactere in general, but this time I think we saw how his rational way of thinking can outplay himself, espacially when it comes to his realtionship with Kei:
In fact, Ayanokouji planned to "bond" Kei on himself with his actions, but he thinks it worked out because she is depending on him and his protection still to this moment. Altough, we, the audience, know that Kei wants "to be used" by him, because she developed feelings for Ayanokoiji.
In Ayanokoujis eyes it probably would not make sense for Kei to love him after what he did to her. But beliefing she's still depending on him and underestimating her character developement could possible surprise him in the future, for example if she gets tired to chase after him and choose to continue her life without him because she now has the self confidence to act on her own because of Ayanokouji

So Ayanokoji always uses people for his benefit right ?? But not cuz he wants to defeat them , it's becuz he feels threatened by them well some of them . But that's when his defence mechanism from White Room comes out to use anyone and beat the threat . And not only beat them but defeat them in their own strongholds what they are full of themselves in , so they don't bother him further . Ryuuen's strong point was violence so it was necessary for koji to best him in that area kinda like mentally breaking him down .
