This song is a modern classic. Rest In Peace Ian Curtis (1956-1980) went way too soon. A true legend becomes unforgettable after an artist passes away. Ian Curtis is one of those legends

No way...did not expect you to react to this classic! As the previous comment said, one of the most influential songs ever written...thank you! And God damn Dei kills it with the song requests, honestly appreciate you bro, thank you!

Shortly after this song was released and just prior to their US tour Ian Curtis committed suicide at the age of 23. The band reformed as New Order and didn’t play Joy Division songs. Bassist Peter Hook has ventured out on his own resurrecting the Joy Division catalogue. I saw Peter Hook and the Light this summer and it was incredible to experience these great songs played live. I also saw New Order this summer and they have started playing Joy Division songs as well. Sad that the band broke up but the benefit is Joy Division music is being played live again

Yeah, I had high hopes when this came across my feed. They don't know, and they don't know they don't know.😢

It's not a joyous song guys. Ian Curtis, the singer, wrote tragedies of epic proportions but with a rhythm section second to none. Peter Hook, the bass player, is one of the greatest bassists ever. Great band that ceased when Ian departed this mortal coil and the band continued under a new moniker. New Order. Great too.

Upbeat song on a very sad topic, the brake down of his marriage with the band completely unaware of his pain. Without Ian's death there would have been no band New Order.

      - which makes it a pretty accurate reflection of what was going on in his life. Outwardly happy and moving along, it's only when you actually listen to the lyrics that you glimpse the distress and pain.

The lyrics are about the break down of his relationship with his wife.
Useless Trivia: Almost all Drum Machine sounds you've ever heard are Stephen Morris. Early Drum Machines came with some basic beats but also the capacity to enter more. The issue is that it was painstaking with you having to record each individual drum sound. Stephen did that and once he had record companies and producers jsut paid the nominal fee to use them. He once joked that every few months he would gather up all the tiny royalty cheques and go to the pub and buy lunch and a beer.
Useless Trivia 2: When you mentioned keyboards - in 82 or so when they were New Order they wanted the Drum Machines and Syths to sync up and there was literally no way to do it. So they went to a guy at the local university in Manchester and worked with him to create the tech to get them to sync up. Without that modern dance music as we know it either doesn't happen or happens much later in time

You actually got it. At the time nothing like this had been done before. The happiest sad song of all time or the saddest happy song of all time. Whatever. Great music.

It is said that when Ian performed he would have epileptic seizures on stage. His arms would be all over the place

this is like watching two people walk through a war museum smiling and laughing at all the pretty blood soaked dismembered limbs. I am jealous of you both if you don't see and hear the meaning.

The awful thing about this video is that three weeks after the filming Ian Curtis left the building
