Imagine being able to hear Tool for the first time again 😢
For sure!
Right! Live as well!
Hold still. I'll get a frying pan.
That's what I just did lol. Not exactly my genre, but they're really good. Not sure I'll fall into this rabbit hole, but i'll dig deeper
I was at a recent show and met several virgins. I was so happy for them!
Oh boy, you just stumbled on a rabbit hole...
Yes she did.
And I’m here for it!
LOL.. exactly. I found the hole about a year ago... It's very nice down here.
Tool brigade done moved out
Guys, he has three bands! This rabbit hole is a little bigger than normal lol
watching her fall in love with tool brought it all back for me!
What did you think of the fear innoculum album?
30 years later still hits hard
I totally agree. This song has been, and always will be, a forceful gut punch. Doesn’t matter how many times you’ve heard it.
I dare say that every fan remembers the shock when a Tool song fills a hole in your soul that you didn't even know was there.
Absolutely 💯
1993. The whole fucking crazy year for me.
This song changed the music scene in a way that at least for me changed the whole vibe of the world. The hair bands were finally done and buried as this song took over, the grunge scene was laid open and exposed fore it's stupidity and repetitive copying. It was like a new dawn of actual real music that reminded me of the 70's vibe.
Saw them live in the mid 90's shortly after Undertow released, they were getting 'big' but weren't quite there yet. Absolutely shocked with the way the music and Maynard's voice and lyrics blew me away. And I'd already listened to them on cassette. btw, I love how your (The Vocalyst) first comment about this is "it's very moving". Yep, that's TOOL.
college. this song exactly.
I had always heard _of_ them, but hearing that song made me go "Oh, _now_ I see."
"I am very much looking forward to hearing more from this group..."
A sentiment shared by Tool fans since 1993.
Lol for real though!
😂
And a perfect circle and puscifer!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
crazy how you just described the word "fan"
He is communicating anguish, he knows it, he’s lived it and it’s raw. As a recovering addict, this song is gripping and touches the darkness some of us are fortunate to survive and many cannot comprehend. His voice is brilliant and executes such pain…beautifully.
"He is communicating anguish" I think you nailed it. Perfect way of saying it.

well said. happy to have you here with us

Beautifully said. Glad you overcame your addiction. My son turned me on to Tool. He was an amazing young man and wrote poetry and lyrics and played several instruments. He struggled with bi polar and it eventually led to him being taken from this world. He identified with Tool’s music. Listening to them brings back memories of him. 😌❤️🎶
You know a band is gifted when their Live version sounds better than actual studio version
Alice in chains live in awesome 🤘🤘🤘
The studio versions sounds very polished which I like a lot, but there is rawness in his voice in the live version that I really like.
The first time I noticed this as a kid was watching that video of Cream blowing up the Albert Hall with "Crossroads," and then being so disappointed when I heard the studio version.
Since then ALL my favourite bands are the ones that sound better live, because you can feel the passion and the sheer joy they're experiencing in just letting rip.
It's Maynard's physicality that sells it. The fact that he can twist and contort his body while still delivering a pitch perfect vocal performance is astounding.
Disagree. The live song has more energy for sure but his vocal performance is definitely more raw and not at his best quality. I don’t know why all these reaction videos use live performances like this instead of hearing them at their full potential. Is it a music rights violation thing?
She perfectly captured what it’s like to hear Tool for the first time. Confusion, bewilderment, but awe, excitement, and beauty.
and the pretty much involuntary swaying to the hypnotic rhythm...
immeasurable depression as well, if I may add a commentary to yours already perfect commentary. The thing about Tool, not only for me, If I dare say, is that they seem to be able to bring the audience to a terrible hell, atmospherically, but they also seem to be able to ascend, to elevate, to remove the listener from that place. how tf they do that is beyond me
Yep!
I wish I could give your comment more likes
She started with EPIC TooL! They’re still good but different. Their angst was so great!
The 1990s was an epic era for music.
Imo it was the last decade. Go back to decades previous and each had substance too. Everything since the 90s has been fake/inorganic.
It was OK. The 70s is pretty much the king of music decades.
@Adam-ye6wj that's why the 90s was the last great decade, because you had great 70s, too
That’s because you have not discovered metal. All that started in the 90s.
It is the final decade of actual music.
Watching this woman become a TOOL fan is a beautiful thing... welcome.
This is honestly an amazing first song for you to jump into TOOL with. Part of what I think makes this song so _powerful_ is that the _music itself_ feels like it's in agony, suffering in the cycle of addiction and withdrawal right alongside Maynard's vocals and lyrics.
Once she said she’s never heard Maynard before you knew she was about to get her mind blown.
Where the fuck was she?
Yeah she definitely had a head trip
Precisely what I thought
@@jackiemartling5321Main Stream music. That's where
Haha I thought the same thing
As a tool fan and an addict...she has a very true and real feeling that she can't describe. He isn't performing it, he is letting it out.
Well said.
Beautifully put !
Absolutely! Maynard just...does.
You just said it all! It's way more than just singing. If you get it, you get it!

Anyone who has ever lost a loved one to addiction is deeply touched by this song. Bless you all - you are loved.
This performance gives me chills, its an indescribable feeling. To see other people enjoy music as much as I do makes me happy.
The only thing better than Tool is watching someone else experience Tool & Maynard for the first time 🔥
8-10 Times Better every time. POET
Yes!! I watched her face the whole time as he built up throughout and her emotions. There’s no denying what Tool does to a person and how they tap into your soul. It’s a full body experience.
Absolute truth 💯
🖤
what got me was the first time hearing them on good headphones. shit was unbelievable. i was amazed at how much of it i didnt hear before
This song came out when I was drinking myself to death and I was very comforted to do so. My childhood was far from ideal and I just wanted to die already. This song brought me to my knees about every night back then. I haven't drank a drop since 1995 and I never will again, but, this song still hits hard even now.
Congratulations on your sobriety.
@@yotafan174 Thank you.
Glad you're still with us. Keep up the good work.
Good for you!
@@HayMap Thank you.
18 years sober and this song still brings me to my knees…so powerful. Than you MJK.
Maynard has always expressed his struggles with performance anxiety… this escalated throughout the years. I’ve seen him about 12 times since ‘93 and 5 were him facing away from the crowd (2 times in minimal clothing)….. His talent, performance and powerful presence is breathtaking!
I’m just sad I’ve never seen him with APC!!
APC is phenomenal live. They’re doing shows for Maynard’s 60th. It’s APC, Primus and Puscifer. Get your tickets. I’m going to the red rocks shows in Morrison, Co.
going to see them all in TN!! so excited, especially for primus' bassist 😭 i found him thru oysterhead and that is pure fucking talent right there
@@rosa-gw1xm hell yes, I'm going to see them in KC in a few weeks! I'm so pumped
APC is my drug of choice and watching live was incredible and breathtaking
You are going to love it! Amazing show!!!
Tool captured the spirit of addiction and desperation in a song. Its powerful.
💯 PERCENT NAILED IT!!💯🤟🙏
Don't really think this is about addiction.
just the simple, leaned forward, weird posture is sufficient to call for all the saddening pics of fentanyl addicts. Very powerful.
@@mushroomxxxzzzit kind of is. It's about a friend they had who left an answering machine message whilst drunk. But, as Maynard has said, he leaves most lyrics vague enough for anyone to apply them to their life. That's what's so great about Tool and Maynard's lyrics.
To me it personifies the dark night of the soul. We all have them.
Watching your face as you listen brings literal tears to my eyes. Tool was and is the soundtrack of my life as I moved through 10 years of addiction, 10 years of prison, and now 15 years of recovery. This song specifically means everything to me.
Forty Six & 2 has a nostalgia for me, like the smell of home. Funny how certain bands can get you through. Your comment spoke to me - I wish you well.
F & A..!! I Hear That..!! This song was right there... in the loss of serenity... the destruction thereof... and the newfound living S E R E N I T Y
such a powerful song, and the best performance to pick for a 'First time Ever' vid... First time I heard TOOL was at lalapaloosa, the gorge at gorge... daytime set... no clue...
Totally Life Changing Experience..! I've seen them many time since but still, and will always, get the chills... anytime this song is played..! F & A... Congrats on the 15..!!
same here with my response to her response wasn't expecting to be moved by someone caring about a band that means sooooooo much to me
Congratulations on your sobriety. Every day is a new day, a new opportunity.
good on you man...
i have absolutely no idea how my algorithm found you but im in. this was great thanks 😅❤
Mother Mary! 7:04
This is an A4 note, merely three half steps shy of a C5 (aka Tenor high C)
Maynard are capable of singing actual high Tenor notes, with a very pleasant and musically pleasing timbre.
It's actually quite remarkable🙌
Almost 30 years later still gives me chills..... everytime
30 years later? That can´t be true ! Shit, yes, its true! Yeez, time surely passes, hahahah
Every. Single. Time!
Still!
Same
When a vocal coach is lost for words and just cant put a finger on it you know this band is unique. A successful band which stood out from the rest in its genre.
It's haunting and emotional. I am not one to really listen to the actual lyrics at first. I listen to the way the music makes me feel......I am the sort who gets goosebumps from music. Tool.does that. So that happens first I get the feeling then I hear the words usually
It's baffling that people don't like them. To deny the exponential talent of these musicians is fucking asinine imo. Danny Carrey is probably top 3 greatest drummer of all time, and Maynard's voice is one of the most unique sounds on the planet.
cant put a finger on bc Who are you to wave your finger? You must have been outta your head
What genre do you put Tool in? I've always left them in their own realm.
Took has a genre? I always thought they were impossible to classify that way. Love this band.
It still blows my mind that Maynard was not an addict. As a recovering addict, he speaks to my soul.
He and the rest of the band certainly did hard drugs such as LSD to put forth this sound my guy.
@@sas_j-money3422 L isn’t a hard drug my guy.
@@nikb3054 Ok I would understand if you said that about shrooms. LSD is 50x stronger though...
so many of his songs speak so deeply and honestly about addiction, even though he's not an addict and has never struggled with addiction. thirteenth step by APC is almost entirely about the suffering of addicts, and how difficult it is to recover, and it's beautiful. it's such an important album to so many addicts i know, recovered and otherwise, and it's just mind boggling to know that maynard ISNT an addict
iirc an old bandmate of theirs was and inspired this song
The guitar and feedback are exactly the same in every version of this song ❤️🤯
I'm 73 years old, seen Tool twice, and I've watched this live version of Sober countless times (not this video by The Vocalyst). Sometimes I sit there in an awe inspired stony silence and sometimes it brings me to tears. I can't think of another song that I've heard since I started to pay attention to music in 1964 that carries the emotional power of this song. Love every Tool song but this one's special.
I got to see them play an instrumental version of sober live. It was definitely one of those "thank you for letting me experience this God" moments.
wish all of our elders thought as you.. right frkn on!
Builds up from the euphoria Lincoln kind of levels off after turmoil let you sit up there and think about it then it falls in the Darkness select the whole trip through the addiction so many people live through that I've lived through and still living in kind of captures the whole fucking thing thing
I’m 53, when this album came out and I picked it up, I listened to it once and put it away. It was too much for me at the time but it became one of my all time favorite albums. Sober is one of my favorite songs. It is a masterpiece.
Exactly the same here.
Tool has so many incredibly powerful songs, it's hard to know where to start... Lateralus, The Grudge, The Pot, Aenima, Wings for Marie pt.1 and 2, Invincible, the list is long and rewarding. Every member of the band is a master.
Don't do Wings pt 1&2 unless you're ready to cry. It's a tribute to Maynard's mother, and he goes all out on it. But, eventually, yeah, do it.
@Toolarmy: We got another one! :) I recently did post on a other Tool reaction Video nearly the same Song List as Scott - only difference Two in One instead of Aenima. But its Tool, there are soo many amazing songs.
also a note about 'Lateralus' it uses the Fib Seq
Don't forget the other 80 songs plus Puscifer lol, soooo goooood
Rosetta Stoned is a great one because it starts in an odd place, but when it gets to the power notes... cuts right through me, every time
Your facial reaction and emotions to what you heard, along with your verbalized interpretation reaffirmed what I felt the first time I listened to that song. Moved. Great vid!
Watching someone fall in love with this song for the first time is a beautiful experience.
The thing of it is.... Hes making you feel what he felt. Everything about what hes doing. He wants u to see it and feel it. A literal transfer of emotion from one to another.
He suffers from terrible stage fright also.
Yeah he expresses the dark desperation of addiction in his voice. The tired, angry, beaten down, sick of yourself, frustration that comes from hitting rock bottom and not for the first time
Wasn’t this song written about someone else?
@@user-360johnn Yea, pretty sure it was written about his mom.
@@user-360johnnThat's what I've always heard too, but am confused about...
@@ToyokaXNever heard that, but maybe. I thought I heard it's about an ex-band member ?

It literally amazes me every time. Like when I meet somebody I always just assumed that they know who Tool is. They may not be a huge fan, but they know they exist.
We don’t find tool. They find us in the right time
I've been a tool fan for decades now. Maynard's voice is hands down my favorite of all. The clarity. The tone. The fullness and the smoothness you mention. It connects with me and moves me.
Anything that Maynard touches is a masterpiece
If I could only listen to one voice singing for the rest of my life, I would want it to be Maynard James Keenan. His voice touches your core in a visceral way.
I've said before that my idea of heaven is watching MJK live in concert for eternity.
Same! He moves the core of my soul
His "physicality" is enhancing it. He's really "feeling it". His delivery is powerful. I'm happy to hear you speak to this. He's a genius.
Not genius, hes drugged out of his mind.
@@similarsubstance4885He's not. Maynard has always been health conscious. He's playing the role of an addict on stage to fit the theme of the song. The song itself is his observations of those close to him who he watched be destroyed by addiction.
@@similarsubstance4885he plays on act if you think everything he or tool says and does is 100 percent serious your mistaken

You were just fighting tears. I watched another TH-camr react to lateralus, and he could not hold the tears back. Tool is the most emotional, complex, dynamic band ever. I’ve been listening since the 90’s, and to this day there are times I have to turn them off and back away for a minute so I can gather myself. Greatest band ever.
I just got through seeing his 60th birthday concert!! Primus, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer. God that was amazing. Maynard still has the voice!!! I'm 42 and I hope I'm still alive at 60 lol
“Eulogy!” His voice in that song is perfection. Full body goosebumps every single time.
Yes. That's the best
My favorite!
For me it's Forty Six & 2. I dig this a lot, though. I love Ænima. Love me some TOOL in general, but I'm gonna speak some blasphemy: I don't really care for Fear Inoculum.
@@chuckclark3214 I was the same about Fear but listened to it a few more times and I've grown to love it. But on my first listen, I was just unimpressed for some reason.
I really like his vocals, along with all if the other instrumental sections, especially danny carry's drumming in pneuma..such a good song
Maynard is in the zone on this song. Acting out the literal nature of the meaning of the song in his presence and posture. So good!
You know he wrote this long before Tool ever was? He also sang it in a very fast tempo.
@@ellzedd4113 I didn't know that. Thanks! I listen to more of APC than Tool. Very talented artist. And I hear his wine business is doing well too.
I think it was this show, I remember reading that Tool accidentally ingested LSD through Gatorade that Al Jorgensen of Ministry gave them while hanging out before Tool's performance.
If Al is telling the truth in his writings, I believe it. Maynard looks it.
@@TheStonedZone"accidentally". I remember watching a thing on VH1 years and years ago about how he overdosed on heroin and someone was able to save his life by putting ice up his butt and it shocked him awake
Maynard is mental here.
Maynard has been blessed with beautiful vocals and he uses them wisely to this very day. I love his honesty and ability to bare his soul to anyone without fearing their criticism.
Tool got a new fan! Welcome aboard. Absolute Genius
No matter how many times I hear this song, it sends absolute chills up my spine and my skin crawls with goosebumps. I don’t know exactly what it grabs in me - just like practically every other Tool song - it’s beyond mortality. Tool isn’t music, it’s a conjuring.
You took the words from my mouth. This one gives me the chills and gets me all twsited inside with his raw emotion. Spiral out brother
It's kind of Maynard's baby. He was playing the same song with Children of the Anachronistic Dynasty in Michigan in the 80s as a glam band. Crazy the journey this song took.
He's a perfectionist and his performances are a reflection of himself. He literally bears his soul with each performance.
Full body shivers watching this Tool live video. And I've been a fan for 15 years
I wish I could hear Tool for the first time again, to have my mind melted.
Maynard is able to express that part of your soul that you hide. The pain we have in our pyschy longing and yearning for respite during our darker moments. Tool is not depressing its cathartic. Great review of a powerful singer, phenomenal performer, and overall songwriter.

Maynard is what angels sound like ❤ the absolute perfect voice to ever exist
The fact that he can bend over so far and stagger without it altering his vocals. It's pure soul. Their music with his vocals... mathematically bone chilling. I was just talking to my cousin about the magic that is Tool, attempting to explain my thoughts on it as well. Seeing Maynard live is life changing, I am not one to fanboy over artists, they are human just like us. When a song makes me cry, get chills, express rage.. I know the musicians are doing their job, ON POINT. =)
Great video, I love how you take time to let your thoughts process before diving in with certainty. I also must point out your sway to his lullaby type vocal expressions when he dials back to his calm state.
You have obtained a new sub! And THUMBS UP!
Imagine hearing this for the 1st time, as a teenager when all your emotions are haywire!
It literally rewired my brain

Heard them in 7th grade. Had a crush on a guy who wore their shits all the time. Went to the record store to listen so I could talk to them about it. Lol BOOOOY BYE!!! Hello favorite band 😂❤
In my opinion TOOL has one of the strongest discographies of any modern musical act. Especially amongst those still relevant. They have consistently delivered diverse, progressive, and a "unique to them" sound without ever sacrificing artistic expression. Every song sounds like tool, but in every song you get lost in the complexities of the music and are lulled my Maynard's vocals. You are somehow always locked into a groove with the weirdest disconcerting time signatures, and your ears will never get tired of it.
The new album took taylor swift and her swifties off the charts.
Rare are the artists that sound as good live as on the album or has albums you can listen to all the way thru. Every single song is good on many of their albums.
@skeemeastwood9075
I went twice to his show at the smoothie King center in New Orleans. Now, that venue is pretty shit after the first 15 or so rows. They still sounded amazing in the nose bleeds.
This song really cuts to the bone. Great review. Made me cry a little.
Off topic: I am mesmerized by your hair. It is amazing.
This is the song that God put in my path to get sober. I was an addict at absolute rock bottom, and this song resonated in my ears from the moment I heard it. Eventually I finally decided on 10/12/1997 that I was done.

Tool is so artistic and talented I love them. They’ve always made me feel like Im being put under a spell. Usually in a darker sense, but it is powerful and important to face your shadow, they do tend to balance it out a bit. Whether thats good or a bad is personal choice I suppose, either way there is spiritually in music, dark and light, they really know how to make you feel it. You can see it in her face almost immediately. Lol. These men are deep philosophical and metaphysical thinkers, its in the lyrics and even the rythm, timing, and numerological patterns within the music, often designed to represent sacred geometry. Plus symbolism in the music videos. Id recommend checking out all their stuff.
Thank you so much for sharing your review and first experience with this legendary group with us all. 🙏🏼
I pity those who never felt, or through lack of life experiences cannot feel, the power of this band. They are transcendent.
Well put, however as a fellow Tool fan, isn’t it better to be unable to relate? Just imagine if our lives were such that these song didn’t touch our soul?
Absolutely!
One definitely need a certain level of life experience to feel this type of music
I'm thankful for the countless weekends me and my buddies spent tripping balls on acid and playing Tool nonstop in high school. When you're in that state, the music itself and lyrics just take you to unexplainable places. I'm a boring 43 yr old now, but Tool literally lives inside me lol. Can't wait to see them again next month!
They're great, but cool it with antisemitism guy.
I love his voice, always have. You can tell he studied music because he knows his voice is a musical instrument that completes the song. But the whole band is incredible, every member 🙌.
He did huh!?

Whew this song has always pulled at my heart but this live performance gave me chills multiple times. I really enjoyed listening to your breakdown too, kind of helped me put together some words I couldn't find to describe the feeling. Maynard considers his voice to be just another instrument in the band. Tool is so balanced, and no one can touch their creativity and quality.

Second video of yours that I've watched, and you're just so spot on. You think through all the elements and the combination of your raw reaction and subsequent analysis is perfectly deliberate.
How refreshing. Watched a lot of this type of content but its great you give the song and performance time to resonate and sink in. What often puts me off vocal coaches reacting to songs is micro dissection and pausing right from the start and pausing every 5 seconds. Love your work, and all the best.
Your reaction was perfectly in tune with that performance. The intensity and authentic delivery from Maynard and the band is something to behold. Says a lot about your authenticity too.
Well said .
I was fortunate to be assigned to be a grunt on the second stage load crew at the 1993 lalapalooza show in des Moines, I really wanted the main stage assignment because RHCP was the headliner, so glad I didn't, I would have missed TOOL's performance, my jaw hit the floor and I think stayed there for the whole show, I saw how it was impacting the crowd, so I abandoned my post stageside to experience it among them for a few songs, life changed!
First time I heard Tool I was cramped into the rear jump seat of a early 90’s Toyota pickup. Three of us heading out of town for work. Middle of summer, the truck was black and the AC sucked in those things. One of the rear tires was “out of balance” so if he hit 60 it would vibrate like a bastard. He kept hitting sixty then backing off. Over and over. I already didn’t like the fucker driving but an hour in I wanted to beat the shit out of him. Then he popped in Undertow on those shitty factory speakers with just a cheapo deck and Radio shack sub at my feet adding to my cramping (probably the worst car stereo setup in the history of man). At first thought “what is this dogshit? Can’t even hear the fucking singer. Mumbling son of a bitch.” Part way through Intolerance I thought it was maybe not bad. Prison Sex came on and halfway through I thought they were pretty good. Then the breakdown and I thought “this drummer kicks ass”. Then Sober punched me in the face and I was hooked.
No bullshit I remember every bit of my thought process during that whole album. When it was done I told him to play it again. He said “fuck that” and loaded Primus Seas of Cheese which I had never heard either. That asshole had some damn good taste in music.
That’s wild. I was at That show in 93 at Shoreline in Mountain view, CA. I was literally hypnotized when I heard Tool. I watched the whole performance alone. I get to see him again 30 years later for his birthday tour.

Thank you so much! This helped me see one of my favorite bands/singer/writers of all time from a fresh perspective. It was very cathartic and reminded me of watching a newborn baby being born to see your reaction! Very inspiring !
Good to see that the emotional impact of heavy metal be appreciated. I try to explain it to people but it just needs to be experienced.
Now, imagine how many kids have been helped to be able to not just ignore these difficult emotions, but to put them in focus and deal with them.
I often tell my husband, who introduced me to Tool, that there will probably never be another voice like MJK and never another band like Tool. Uniqueness amongst musicians is getting more and more rare.
Try listening to Temple of Thieves.
I was raised on Rush, Pink Floyd, and Zeppelin, and didn’t think there would ever be anything so incredible again, so when I found Tool as a teenager I was absolutely blown away. I never asked to buy a CD but I wish I had cuz I didn’t really get to listen to them until they put themselves on streaming services a few years ago.
There are actually 2 other bands led by MJK you may want to check out.
A perfect Circle and Pucifer.
You will not be disappointed.
A Perfect Circle is kinda like Tool.
@@hardtymz2517lol. No. Totally different.
TOOL makes me emotional because it feels completely authentic from every member.
Beautifully said.
I get choked up at least once whenever I’ve seen them live. It’s very moving.
Man, this song still gives me chills all over my body. It’s such a powerful and painful piece, and Tool has dozens that will bring me to tears, this being a main one. I’m so glad you listened to it and FELT what we have all felt while following this band for decades. I used to have a picture that was taken of me without my knowing 25ish years ago, and it was taken of my back as I tried to crawl into the speaker at a party when this song was being played. I was battling my own demons and this song resonated at a soul level always. ❤❤❤
I’ll stop commenting after this but you’re describing the experience very well. Tool is an emotional journey. Maynard is a poet and a powerful singer. Thanks for this.
Man, I totally get what you mean about not being able to articulate how this song makes you feel. It’s equal parts disturbing and entrancing, structured and dissonant. You feel uncomfortable, but you’re so mesmerized by what you’re hearing and seeing that you just let it happen and continue to experience it. To me, as one who’s fortunately never struggled with addiction, this piece is a perfect sonic representation of what I imagine addiction feels like.
Can confirm: as a recovering alcoholic and addict, this is exactly what it feels like. Empty, gnawing, desperate. Desperate to find some beautiful feeling that you will never feel again.
Real life art friends
@@LyleAllbritton 100%, my man. If ya know, ya know....
@@LyleAllbritton I agree with that as a recovering ancient person.. But what I heard when I was young was the anger and dread of "it's coming" and the hope that it would stop. Hope for the day I wouldn't have to endure it anymore. I'm now ancient, and don't have to endure it anymore... So I hear this in an entirely new way. More like how you hear it. This song definitely endures. And it's still so beautiful.
As a recovering addict let me assure you this is nothing like that. This is a song
I feel like after she turned off the camera, she watched the performance again with her eyes closed and cried. 😭 She was on the brink. I was there with her, even though I've seen this video many times. 😍
Most of the time, when tool performs, Maynard, the singer, doesn't even show himself on stage! They really just let the music speak for itself!
Love em! ❤❤❤
Tool is the best band that ever landed on earth! Maynard’s is godly and the band are his angels 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 the drummer is heavenly!!! You must hear Aenema! The drummer plays the drums in such a wonderful way it’s mesmerizing. 46&2 I can’t begin to explain the things it makes me feel! Seeing them at red rocks in the late 90’s was the best night of my life!!! Tool is a lifeline❤️🔥❤️🔥 when I die I would like for H to be the song that plays 🖤
It’s awesome to hear and see someone become a TOOL fan. Lady this band is deep!! And then you graduate to “A Perfect Circle” my favorite TOOL song has got to be 46 & 2. This is one of those “once in a generation” bands. You can’t compare anyone to them or them to anyone else. They are amazing, they are just….. TOOL!!
46&2 is the absolute best! My fav also
yup..can get enough of 46&2!
graduate to puscifer
I wouldn't say graduating to anything. Perfect Circle & Puscifer are simply other projects of his.
@@adambell7907I came here to make the same comment.
This is why voices that carry such pleading and raw emotion stand out from the rest. It’s true: emotional singers blow others away
Ot just reeeeeaaaallly facking high on drugs 😂
This is one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite artists. Somehow, watching it with you made it even more intense. That was totally sureal. Thank you for your concise commentary on this powerful song. Your perspective opened my mind to new depths of understanding of this song.
I love your reaction to Tool. They have been my favorite band since I was 14 , I am now 43.
I'm 46 & 2.
Same here. I'm 46 and Undertow was one of the first tapes I bought when I got my license.
It's my first time hearing them and they sound pretty good
@@exodia9645 Listen to 46 and 2 then look up the lyrics and their meaning
@@Mr.B.B.Wolfman lol
Really enjoyed your reaction. As someone who is 10yrs "sober" this is my go to song when those urges rear their ugly heads. The anger, despair and self loathing that come with being an addict are portrayed perfectly and serve to remind me of a place I never wish to return to. Thank you.
Congratulations Chris, sobriety is a challenge to maintain for so many and addiction is still stigmatized and I applaud anyone who has made the strides and put in the work to make a better life for themselves and even more so to openly speak on their struggles so others can follow their lead. I don’t know you, but I’m proud of you!
@@craigmeaders3867 thanks for your comment dude. It is challenging but the rewards are amazing. Thanks again 👍
Keep on keeping on, man. You don’t need it.
Congratulations on your sobriety. That’s amazing. Keep Going!!! ❤😊
@@michaelgutierrez4845 Thank you!
Loved how you started to sway a little like Maynard toward the middle. Welcome! The Tool army is strong. So much for you to discover! Check out A Perfect Circle and Puscifer as well for more of Maynard Keenan. Enjoy! Loved your reaction and descriptions! 😀🙌🏼
30 years later I never recovered from that song. Every time I hear it my soul cries in despair. Maynard is a wizard, he puts you right there with him in his pain, rawness and suffering... and when you lost people you loved more than life itself to addiction that song hits hard. To all the people out there still struggling, you are seen and YOU ARE LOVED more than you know...hang in there💜
The duh-duh-duh has always felt like a heartbeat or pulse to me. It gets faster when Maynard sings angrily and maintains its normal pace during the verses.
and the end is what a heart sounds like as it dies
It reminds me of the anxiety you get from a strange knock at the door late at night
I still can't believe this is a live performance. They are so good
You couldn't auto tune your way to success as a rock band in the 90s. Tool, stp, sound garden and Alice in chains. They put most of today's singers to shame.
I’ve seen them live 3 times and each time it was pristine magnificence
No words for how much i love this song…
Then watching her listen for the first time!!!
I’m so happy crying and dying from bliss-induced nausea
🙏
Such an amazing song!! I love the reaction to the music on your face!
I’m going to see Tool in concert for the first time in 10 days! Been a fan for 20 plus years but this will be the first time seeing them live. Cannot wait!
going AGAIN in Philly November 16
I haven't seen them live yet, but my buddy has seen them thrice since Fear Inocculum and said it's unlike anything you've ever experienced before. Hope you have a banger of a time!
It's soul cleansing.
I'm going to see them in Edmonton on the 25th. Been waiting since I was a teen to see them. CHUFFED!
@@vigormortis6839 ditto ! It's going to be wild.
Tool always makes me so emotional. Maynard is a musical genius and it really makes my soul sing. The talent is unbeatable.
2nd is deftones for me.
& when he wrote the song passenger by deftones! I bawled my eyes out hearing them both on the track.
I really want her to do deftones
I stopped scrolling at this. Both great emotionally driven bands that are so underrated.
@ MrMars8848 .... I, too, am as MASSIVE Fan of BOTH Tool & Deftones ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 So, that being said,
Lemme just say that I think YOU would absolutely LOVE the band "OURS" material ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
The singer Jimmy Gnecco = his vocal range is STUNNING ... and the LYRICS .... Wow!!
A Heroin Addict ... Enough Said .... some of their songs will break your heart!! 💔
Uuuuhh yes deftones!!!! Uuuhhhhh.........yyyeesssss
Tool are the kings of building up a song!
That song sends chills up my spine. Just watching you watch and listen to it for the first time made the song that much stronger. What I would give to be at that performance back at that time. What a great time in music. Hands down my favorite music Era.
Man, I love watching people who love music watch Tool for the first time because everyone can tell this band is crazy talented at conveying a story through emotion.
