We got bookcases and plastic milk crates when a neighbor moved out of state. Good for the planet and the milk crates can go outside in the garden to hold
plants. When my kids were small, we used gallon milk jugs to hold small items. We cut down the tops and put duct tape over the cut edge. Tina, Al's wife

Bookcases is exactly what I used in my tiny apartment! I then covered old boxes with pretty paper to house all my craft supplies. I even found one the perfect size for hanging folders, prettied that one up and you can't really tell what's in any of the boxes! Although I know. When I left my mother's house (after she passed away), I took one of her favorite pieces - a bar cart. It's wood and two shelves on wheels with a handle for moving it around. That's VERY handy for storage! And every time I use it, I think of Mom. Love double duty pieces. Thanks for another wonderful video! Oh! One other thing I found works great for storage are men's tall bureaus. I have two of those in my bedroom instead of the normal low, long ones made for women. They store so much more! I have one for my every day clothes and the other is primarily accessories. Have a great day/night! And Happy Valentine's Day!

    • @dale3404
      @dale3404 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I like the idea of two men’s bureaus. I have a triple dresser in my bedroom, which is nearly impossible to move in order to dust behind. The bureaus are also more versatile than the dresser. I wouldn’t need a long wall to accommodate them. Thanks for the idea. I’m planning to buy new bedroom furniture when we move in two years, not even taking this set with me.

Great video. There are so many ways to use bookcases. My husband had the clever idea of stacking one of those 6 cubes bookcases from Target on the top shelf in our pantry. You know that shelf at the top that usually gets wasted because it's so high up. We anchored the cube to the wall and now have more usable space for less frequently used items, like soft coolers, extra canned good, extra paper products. We previously had those in baskets, but they never really worked well. This works great for us!

Great ideas. I still like your coffee bar. I bought a TV armor for $20. It probably was very expensive when it was new. It's a beautiful piece of furniture. Took off the cardboard back. Had my husband reinforce it wit a couple 2x4s. The back wall( this is why it was reinforced) put in a pegboard. Added a couple wire shelves. I added a spice rack to the inside of one door. Underneath was awesome storage too. I got it when I had to use my living room as a craft area. Total investment was $30. Had everything except for the 2x4s and shelves. Now need it gone because we are moving by the end of the year. Downsizing.

Oh my goodness! I love the idea of putting a bookcase on top of a dresser! I've got a dresser and I have scrapbook cases for my cardstock, etc. But I have to stack them and unstack them to get to what I want. A bookcase could make that easier. 😊🥰 Thank you! You also gave me the idea to use another piece of furniture I have to use as well. I don't really need to be using it the way it's currently being used. It would give me more storage. 😊 Side note, Sam's club sells a 6 ft metal cabinet with doors and heavy duty castors that holds a great deal and has adjustable shelves. It's about $200. It's 6ft tall x 3ft W X 1.5 ft deep. It's got 4 shelves. Just a thought if you've never seen it. I know it cost more, but it's durable. I had one in my classroom when I worked. Plus, bcz it's metal magnetic features could be added to store tools. 💞 Thanks again for your great ideas! 🥰

I have a book case turned on its side and up on two cabinets that I got at target. The side pieces are stronger than the shelves themselves and it creates a nice long console. And by putting the cabinets at opposite ends there's a nice space in the middle that I use to access an outlet and to put my carts that float around the room when i don't need them. It had been used as a room divider before I decided to put it up against a wall for more space.

Check cabinetry shops. While shopping for her house that was being built, a friend found a cabinetmaker was selling off demo kitchen cabinets to make way for the new designs. She bought the whole kitchen and set it up in her loft for crafting. Because everything matched, it looked great out in the open. The pantry unit was my favorite. The doors had shallow shelves, the inside walls had shallow shelves, and there were shallow shelves which swung out from the middle. It’s hard to describe, but it was perfect for all the small containers of paint, glue, etc.

Wonderful ideas! I recently bought three 3-drawer clear acrylic boxes and put them side-by-side across the back of my desk in my craft room. On top of the center one, I put a silver baking tray and on top of that I put my large computer monitor. The boxes are great for storing a lot of my craft or office items that I use all the time and the tray under the monitor is a great catch-all for miscellaneous. I also have an Ott light on top of one of the boxes and on the other side I have pen and scissor organizers. It helps keep stuff off my desk, but visible.

I just started watching your channel I love your ideas. My crafts are a mess I need so much help I'm overwhelmed I don't know where to begin and I get so upset and depressed because there no rom to work on my projects, I'm a quilter, scape booker, and card maker I also like remaking thrift show finds. I hope watching your ideas will help me. I need all the help I can get. thank you so much for sharing all your ideas.

Hi Norrine! Loved these ideas. I have used some you mentioned. I love how you can change a bookcase to fit your needs. I have even thought of putting a slim pegboard on the side of a bookcase that has easy access to it. I try to use what I have and not go buy more cabinets. I love everything you do! Keep up the good work!👍🥰💜

What great ideas! I have a buffet in my dining room that I've been trying to come up with a way to update it and make it more usable. A cubie bookcase on top should do the trick. Going though the video, I got some other ideas that I think will work too.

If the bookcase has a face frame your shelves don’t need the notch to place them on an angle. I’ve also seen the slanted shelves using wire shelving with the lip turned up instead of down so no tension rod needed.

    Beautiful ideas!
What are your thoughts on how to store sanders, dremels etc? I need them handy, but because they are do bulky and have attachments, they just get put in a tote

Really clever outside-of-the-box ideas, some that never occurred to me Well, that's where you come in. Right? I remember what the back of your crafting shelves looked like. Altho very nice & blended with containers' I like the wooden look you have now. My eyes now go right to supplies & not distracted with more colors & patterns. However' whatever you chose will be just right!😊💕

    💯% Norrine! 👋LOL
I've been addicted to book cases since the seventies. So many of my friends and family teased me about it. I've upcycled many, (love roadside finds 😉) over the years. I still Love your revamp with the peg board idea. Only recently I've seen some videos regarding bookcases laid sideways to use as a bench...... I hit my forehead and said to myself... Duh. Lmao
Great video sunshine. Keep shining on my friend. I'll share this video. That will show them. 😉😎🤣😂🥰

Now I can see everything cuz if I can't see it, I just buy more. Found bookcases at restore place and very inexpensive! Found 3 for $10 each. Thank you again.

Wow! So many great ideas! I have one for you...I too like to "change things up" I used to cover a large piece of foam board, chip board or two pieces of cheap poster board glued together for strength. This was cut to size,(to fit behind each shelf) covered with contact paper, wrapping paper or wallpaper and slid into place. When I tire of it, I recover it. If I change the distance between shelves, I cut a new size. If you only wrap and glue the sides, the paper can be removed and reused. Miss you too...my emails to you are NOT getting through ☹️😢 Barb, Michigan

Great 💡 ideas . I use two of Ikea storage shelves, the slatted type for storage in my art studio. Two right next to each other, and I did nail a board across the top for decorating plus it gives the unit stability. I'm going to mention this idea to a friend. She needs more storage space in her kitchen 🙂💕

Please, please, PLEASE go back to the black and white backing of your bookcases. In my opinion, it looks so very much nicer and upscale. For me, it more closely matches the rest of the accessories in your studio that you love so much and it matches you. I bought the black and white from the $1.25 Store just like yours but used blush pink instead of the turquoise. Love it. Thank you for the idea.
