    Norrine, between you and Clutterbug I have everything I need to take away the ‘overwhelm’ that I often suffer from! Clutterbug has helped me to determine what ‘type’ I am which has helped so much. At 58 yo in May I have tried every idea I could find over the years but until I realized I crave ‘visual abundance’ because I forget what I can’t see! Your container that is subdivided made my soul happy! It is clear and just what I need! I wondered why I love the game of Tetris and now I know, rofl!! But as they stack up in the game you start feeling frenzied just the same in real life! The foundation is essential, isn’t it? I appreciate this video so much.💕🌸💕

    I typically add a label to a clear shoe box this way: I write what I think will be in it on a 4x6 card and slip that in the end. It is easily visible, and so quick to change if needed, This is especially good if my stash of items changes so the container is not the right size. I use this method with Christmas storage and large pieces of fabric bins as well, as they often change from year to year.... I itemize the different fabrics in the bin on the label..... Love your ideas

    Hey Norrine....it was sooooo good to see one of your videos again. I've had a few setbacks and hopefully, I'm in the clear for a while. Dear, I want you to know that there is never any need for me to go elsewhere for organization ideas because I KNOW, you are the BEST! You are so creative and intelligent, not to mention kind and we are all blessed to have you. Thanks, Norrine, and until next time....

Hope things are getting better for you 💜You are so sweet, I am so happy to have you here - but if you ever do get stuck, there are so many amazing organizers out there! Sometimes hearing something from someone else will just finally click and help! But then come back and tell me about it so we can celebrate :)

    I like rice cakes which come in a long sleeve. There are two individual sealed packs of rice cakes in the durable soft-plastic outer sleeve. I found that turning down the top of the sleeve, at the opening, and putting the skein of yarn(s) I'm using for a project, in the sleeve, the yarn remains protected from everything, and THEN, I put the yarn into a cereal box, and if necessary, cut the box to the height of the skein(s). One can toss a skein into a travel work bag, so very conveniently. The boxes can be stored on a shelf like a book. Its very tidy and practical...if you like rice cakes that is! : ) I put my plastic bags to all sorts of jobs around the house. Love your channel, Noreen.

    If you have die cuts, stickers, or scrapbooking stamps (those without the wooden part), remove them from their packaging and arrange them vertically in a box by theme. Make labeled dividers that fit your container to reduce the amount of time flipping through looking for what you need. Much more efficient!

    LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, Dollar Tree for organizing bins. Neither of the DTs I have access to have those can holders, and they are pricey at the big box stores, and I really want a couple of them. That's pretty discouraging. Also, love your foam core board and cardboard box organizer ideas! Showing us how to break things down into smaller storage containers, then place them inside larger containers is key for a streamlined and cohesive look.

  • @cindyellis765
    @cindyellis765 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hi, Noreen. I agree with and use most of these tips. However, I look for containers that are perfectly square because the containers that are wider at the top than the bottom waste space and can be hard to shelf.

    • @TheCraftyOrganizer
      @TheCraftyOrganizer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very true! Sadly they are usually SO much more expensive. Since they don't nest, the prices are always higher because they can not ship as many. But you are absolutely right, that the square containers store more. Thanks for watching! :)

    Each time I watch one of your organizing videos like this one I refine my thinking on how to do things in the most efficient way. I have been forgetting to put the smaller containers inside the big ones! That’s why I have stacks of shoeboxes when that category could all fit into one big one without it being too heavy!! I know you always SAY that but I must not be hearing it!! Thank you, Noreen for being my fairy godmother!! Even this 80 yr old needs a sweetie like you with the best, newest, and smartest ideas! @@memekendall3197 i found that 6x6 pads fit in a shoe box. I turned in on its end and it takes up less space while allowing me to see what i have. I write on the edge of each pad with description. 12x12 pads were harder. I finally went through each and pulled papers i loved. I’m donating the rest and it feels so good to free of the extra stuff.

We have the ‘Really Useful Boxes’ brand which can be a bit pricey but are extremely sturdy and well constructed storage boxes of many different sizes, shapes and colours. Teterus is a perfect name for organizing approach. I was thinking a visual of what works well together in certain heights, certain standard drawers and what breaks down themes within large containers would be wonderful. My aha moment of this one was the bins inside the large bins. We have an Indiana snake pit of cords tangled together that. Will be my next project.

    I have the Target bins with the green handles. I used them to store papers of all kinds when I taught elementary school, then brought them home when I retired. Now they hold copy paper, memory items, etc. They are worth the price.

    I am finally doing what you said in another video that I watched yesterday, "Figure out what containers, size and amount, before buying them. Don't buy then figure out how to use". Last night I went through my beading/craft room and I know you would believe it, I had at least 20 different sizes and types of containers. I'm happy to say I have a few spare shelves of different sizes that I can cut-to-fit with my saw when the time comes. I Just wish our Dollar Trees in Canada had the stuff that the ones in the States have. I greatly appreciate all of your videos and knowledge that you are sharing. P.S. Am I the only one that noticed that you changed the height of that middle shelf with the jars on during the video? ☺♥

      I have been to a Daiso only once. Their west coast stores are mainly in California. I do think what is especially valuable about this video is even when she talks about stores/brands you might not have nearby (we are getting a Target store this year! Which will cut 150 miles off a Target trip!) she goes into some detail about what she looks for (sizing considerations, features that improve sturdiness, price, etc.).

    Your videos always are inspiring and smart. Thank you for making them. Sadly, I live in a country without Dollar Stores! Horrors! But I’ve been taking boxes and decorating them.

    Great video. Great ideas. I have never seen the soda can boxes at my dollar tree. Maybe just never looked for them. I will keep my eye out going forward. I also don’t care for the DT shoe boxes. The lid corners are curved and don’t fit well on my shelf’s. I like the squared off corners on the sterlite containers

    I bought a set of 10 sterilite 6 qt. shoeboxes from Walmart for $10.22. So just a little bit more than $1 each. Their lids are grey (yawn), but I used them to organize my birds' toys and supplies which aren't immediately visible to me or anyone else. So, no biggie on the color.
    Btw, I experience SAD: seasonal anxiety and depression disorder. I feel that I almost literally have a craving for bright, cheery colors during the end of fall to the middle of spring. I actually love the brightly colored dollar tree storage options and have found ways to use them to add a lot of color in my apartment year round.
    It would be awesome if you could possibly create a video on ways to easily add bright colors to homes that can still create a neat, clean, organized look. Though I have bright colors around in each room, I don't think the rooms really mesh together cohesively, if that makes any sense. Each room just has random florescent type colors throughout. At any rate, considering many people have to deal with SAD, I thought a video (or two?) showing ways to incorporate bright colors throughout a home would be helpful to a lot of people. 🙂

      I love that idea, Angela! I am learning about SAD right now! As I am pretty sure that is what hit me this last year... and looking back - MANY years in a row! I will see what I can do as the summer ends. xoxoxo
