As I was growing up (in the 60's) my mom always used bottoms of sturdy boxes for storage containers. She still has one by her chair holding her recipe cards (old ones from the 50's thru 70's)

Great ideas. Thanks for sharing your amazing creativity! We don't have as many plastic bags here in Canada since they're banned, but just thought that an empty tissue box would also work as a plastic bag dispenser.

That's what I use. One in car, one in house and extra one to donate to thrift store or apartment community center. Good on places that eliminated them, but the only ones I throw away are ripped ones. 😂

On the paper bag baskets, it is stronger if you just do 2 opposite corners. They’re also super great for organising the veg in your fridge because they can change shape a little to accommodate very not rectangular shapes most produce is, and it can help them not go mouldy by not keeping the moisture in

Great ideas! I have used tissue boxes for plastic container lids, feminine pads, nail polish and accessories. I use the cube tissue boxes for my spare eyeglasses, pens, emery boards, flashlight etc. Next to my bed, I use a pretty gift bag as a trash bag. Also, empty oatmeal containers with empty bread bags as liners make handy trash cans. When my boys were in diapers I used an oatmeal container to hold the bag open and placed the used diapers inside pulled out the bag, tied them up, no mess, no smell.

These are great! I only have one caveat. As someone who knows a lot about pest control, roaches are attracted to cardboard. So if someone already has an infestation they do not want to keep boxes in the house. Particularly the shipping boxes as they use a glue that roaches love to eat.

I want to make the cereal box dividers but I am going to cover the edges with some thick tape from dollar store because I always get bad paper cuts from the edges of cardboard so I want to protect my hands. Shoe boxes are awesome containers. They're usually sturdy, & not as horribly colored as cereals. I've kept medications, cables, summer scarves...
Cereal box cut on 2 sides only (like a paper holder thingy)are awesome for stacking tops rolled like a burrito. You can see the colors, take one out. I used that for years before I found the right size small drawers.
Phone boxes are awesome shallow drawer dividers, think office or junk drawer.
Jars are awesome for a lot of grains.
Chocolate boxes are awesome for jewellery...
As long as a container helps you in your life, use it. The moment it's not used anymore, recycle if needed, give away if it's something that can be reused (think a pretty metallic box of cookies).

So many of us, including myself, have been brainwashed to believe that having something thts expensive or told that something is better that looks a certain way whn if it's all about being organized it really shouldn't matter, especially if we're only ones thts seeing it mostly 😂 and if we have friends/family complain about how it looks cheap thn they can leave or go and buy the exspensive stuff for me 🤷‍♀️🤪😁🤣😂

I think some of these were great. I liked the labels for the tops of spices. Many of the other things were extra work to do and use.
The way you fold your socks is more time-consuming for both. Years ago I worked for a maid service that taught me to just put one sock inside the other it doesn't stretch the other sock it doesn't take much time, and the socks stay in pairs. The tiny hole from the baby wipe container would make me frustrated very quickly. I also don't know why is want to decant my salt. If you want it to look "pretty " you could wrap it in pretty paper.
I can't imagine having the job of trying to find new content to post. I applaud your success.
One thing I learned from an organizer(I don't remember who) is to use long trays in the fridge. They help you reach things in the back more easily and if you have a sticky bottle that someone put back in the fridge it's easy to just clean the one container than try to pull out a bunch of bottles to clean the shelf. I save a lot of space in the fridge by using them . I also keep my fridge more organized that way. I have a wide container that is my cheese "drawer" and another that holds cooked or processed meats.
I also like to store my produce in the door of the fridge, so I'm reminded to use it.

Word of caution about cardboard. Doesnt hold up well to moisture and also draws bugs. But this is a great temporary solution to mock up an arrangement of sorters etc, see if it works for you, play with the configuration. If you like something you made from recyclables, then it may be fine, or upgrade with more decoratvie when you get a chance. Reusing containers is a great idea! I cut the top off some 2L and single serve soda bottles and made a set of funnels. You can even melt a quarter inch hole in one of the lids to those bottles and have a spice funnel. I save nutella and mayonnaise jars, coffee cans, peanut butter jars, glass jars from pasta sauce, bottles from liquid coffee creamer, quart size yogurt containers for tupperware. I decanted all my spices into upcycled parm shakers, i have a set of ten including blends of things i always use together like homeade taco seasoning, and a very versatile combo of onion p\garlic p\celery seed. They fit in a drawer with a bunch of other stuff. I really really simplified my spices, i know what i reach for all the time and use condiments and aromatics to extend ,y spice arsenal.
When you do start investing keep it simple. Simple shapes, 2 or 3 sizes, same or similar containers that mix and match for different purposes and can be moved around the house. One of my fav containers is the humble dishpan and or litter box tray. They can be placed in lower cabinets or on any shelf to make "drawers" so your stuff doesnt get lost in the back. They can also be used to sort toys and kids stuff, bathroom stuff, pantry items, office supplies and art supplies.

Yes! I've glued or taped tgthr tea boxes. Always a good size it seems. I also love the little plastic boxes mushrooms come in and save my free canning jars that spaghetti sauce comes in. I hardly buy any non-food items. By using a lentil-sized amount of toothpaste, adding a handful of water as I shampoo my hair and filling laundry soap only to the line, products last practically forever. BTW, the line on the laundry soap cup is only about 1/8 of the amount that wd fill the cup!

On socks, someone (marie kondo?) said any kind of balling or folding puts extra strain on the elastic. I buy expensive socks with the hopes of having them many many years. I file fold the socks and arrange vertically. I love being able to choose exactly the ones I want and not make a mess in the drawer. Long ones I fold the heel part to the calf part and either roll up or fold a few times.

My pantry is full of refilled mason jars! My intent had been to use those until I could afford better! Although I now have some of the others, I still use my jars for a lot of them! And my spices are all in small glass jars that didn’t cost me anything! As I would empty a glass spice jar, I would wash it, get the label off of it, and then refill it with another spice. I now have all my spices in these free containers (I buy in bulk-big jars or bags)!

I am wondering if it is wise to "decant" detergent pods into an easily opened container like that. They come in childproof containers for a reason. They can be deadly if ingested. They look just like a gummy treat to a child. Please be careful with them. Your little ones are worth the inconvenience of the childproofing.

Every time when I watch home organizing or cleaning video s,I started to wonder how much these people paid for their beautiful, cohesive looking containers. They are not cheap. Not only the cost makes me concern, but also the material of storage containers. Surely they are very pleasing to our eyes. But most bins, trays are made of plastic. Once they are damaged, you can’t recycle them. I want an organized home but not by bringing more land fills one day.

Yeah, I use clothes pins alot. ALSO - sometimes I will buy a grocery store item that is in the size glass container I need (especially large) and once the product is used up, clean the container and repurpose it.

This was one of your most fun videos. As a mom of 26 and 28-year-olds, I don’t need as much storage, but when they were younger, I used practically every idea that you demonstrated, except for the sponge holder. I also cover myboxes with Contact paper. I covered an Amazon box and I keep it in my car to hold all of my shopping bags. It fits right behind my driver seat and everything is neat and tidy.

Kallie, wow. You had me at "totally free", it's seriously one of my favourite videos of yours. I just watched someone's video where they told us to spend like $75 on clear plastic organizer bins from the dollar store, and then buy labels for them. Plus, yours had so many original ideas: my empty shampoo bottle is now my kitchen sponge holder.

Brilliant ideas! Thank you so much!
I would caution everyone to seal the edges of corrugated cardboard boxes with duck tape before you use them. Unfortunately, roaches often like to lay their eggs between the layers while they're stored in the factory, and you might be bringing pests into the house if you keep a lot of those cardboard boxes.

If there were multiple like buttons I would click them all! Great ideas. I think ths is especially useful when just starting out. Because when you declutter, you may find you do not need as many or you need different sizes of containers. Organizing videos that show using Container Store products are unrealistic for most of us.

My favorite was the plastic bag dispenser. You made it look easy, quick, and doable. Most of the videos I've seen show them being straightened out and folded just so. I know me well enough to know that I am not going to fold and smooth 50 bags, lol. I love these types of videos, thank you!

The military sock roll. 30 plus years ago I would watch my husband pack his sea bags for deployment, and they were taught the most compact way to fold everything. Not only for deploying, but also for inspections during boot camp. I learned so much from watching his military hacks. As a kid and teen the cardboard boxes were my favorite for doing my bedroom. My mom always had lleftover wallpaper on the rolls hanging around, so I would cover them with the wallpaper, so they would look nice. Definitely some great organizing ideas on a tight budget.

For the paper basket- you can even reinforce that by gluing cardboard to the bottom of it and then putting twine all the way around it or spray painting it just so it looks cohesive and then twine half of the bag.
*IF* you want to keep the no cost theme and you already have the stuff on hand.
    Use what you got.
    It'll be more sturdier.

You're brilliant! I liked this video as much for a way to keep boxes and bottles out of the recycling as I did for the organizational part. I am always wishing I knew more ways to use things up instead of tossing them out.

I always hated rolling up my socks, it always felt like they took up so much space.
What I started doing was simply laying out each pair, and then folding over once and storing them that way. It just works so much better for me.

People with small children should NEVER decant detergent pods. And to put them in a container that looks the same as a child’s container of toys just does not make sense to me…

I have saved kleenex boxes because of pretty designs. I tried the sock folding during coffee break but instead of tucking the sock in at the end i am going to keep them loose❤ but it is definitely saving room!! I made the paper bag storage and placed some boxes of tea in it. ❤ when i come across some clothespins i am definitely going to post a recipe i need to make. ❤

A couple of years ago I started rolling socks and storing them vertically in the drawer (a la Marie Kondo). I bought a honeycomb drawer organizer (dang) like the one Kallie makes here out of cardboard for free. I can see all my socks at a glance now. It's a great method.
