That is very nice! I have the same machine and was thinking to make a Alu corner finder/touchplate. I have virtually the same setup. Could you please tell me what feed-speed you used and how may flutes on the mill ? Thank you very much ! (I have never ever done alu before so I am somewhat unsure about those values)
I like the machine a lot. It's a good one to start with and upgrade as needed. I haven't done any 3d work with aluminum but I'm sure it could handle it.
I recently used the same router (I guess, looks like an OEM version of the Makita R700C) at half its speed with a 8mm (5/16") 3-flute cutter to cut slots in 2mm (~5/64") aluminum sheet by hand with 1 pass. This barely needed any force and spit out nice chips... So i would guess you could increase your depth of cut quite a bit and save some time. It would be interesting to see, if this machine can handle it. Nice opener by the way! Like it.
Thanks! I'm sure I could crank up the speed and depths of cuts but I usually have bad luck with cutting aluminum and break a couple bits in the process. Lol. But cutting wood is a different story, this router can tear it up.
Very nice upgrade i was thinking on upgrading the 3018 spindle to the 300w spindle motor like on prover xl stock would you recomend it for aluminum parts?
The stock spindle for the 4030 can cut aluminum but you have to take it easy with the feed rate. The stock spindle has a max rpm of 20k. I'm real happy with the Carbide router, I was initially trying to get my hands on a Dewalt router but they have been on back order for months.
@@windsorwoodcraft Thanks.Does mounting a carbide router or router similar would it be to heavy for the small 3018-mx3 or too big? Or has it been done?
@@RcRANFLAS I don't think I've seen one of these type routers on a 3018 yet. I have seen some people upgrade to a 500watt spindle which has a little more power and comes with a new controller box.

@@MorningStarGuitars Thanks. The 4030 is a nice machine. Hopefully it doesn't take too long for you to get it delivered. Mine took less than a week.. I'm trying to make some nice projects and videos, but not too good at the video editing part yet.
@@joshdaynes1086 I have never tried to cut steel but I'm sure it could be done with a router or spindle attached to the machine. But it would probably have to be slow going as far as feeds and depth of cut.
Nice design, good to see the 4030 in action

I have my ProverXL for a week now but didn’t cut aluminum so far. But that looks promising. I bought a single flute 6mm end mill as well :)
Check out my prover linear rail kit it shreds aluminum. th-cam.com/video/PdnTBPP4Ses/w-d-xo.html
@@ed3dcreations386 i wrote single flute...? 🙃 👋
Sorry 🤣
How do upu like this machine? Do you think it can do some 3d aluminum carving work?

Wow! I am looking at the 4030 right now. Your results look great! What kind of speed and feed are you using with the 3 flute 1/4" end mill?

What spindle speed were you running? No issues with the chips getting dragged around the back of the endmill and melting? Can happen on deep cuts.
I don't remember exactly what speed it was but probably around 20k rpm and 30 to 40 inches per minute feed rate.
Sorry Already found in the comments except for the step-down-value
Thanks again
I think I had the step down at 0.01 inches.
@@windsorwoodcraft Thank you very much, have a good day.
Awesome, what bit are you using ?
It's a solid carbide, 1/4" 3 flute end mill.
This machine is cnc sir?
That is correct.
No, it's hand-crank.
Nice simple video but it obviously doesn’t have the guts to machine aluminium properly?
It works just fine with aluminum.
