  • We have received questions on could an inexpensive CNC machine be capable of making inlay cutting boards?
Our friends over at Sainsmart provided us their new machine to test this idea.
In this video, we are testing the Sainsmart PROVerXL 4030 benchtop CNC ( shrsl.com/2jzcl ) configured with a Dewalt DWP611 router ( amzn.to/2SOFV1I ).
    The answer is definitely yes!
Inlay's can be made on an inexpensive machine like the PROVerXL . However, like all equipment, one should carefully approach the choice of machine they purchase, and based on their technical needs and recognize there will be initial setup that can require specific skills to get the best results.
The PROverXL is well suited for a small workshop and smaller projects with its 400 x 300mm work area.
If you want a custom board please email us broinwood@gmail.com

Here some stuff which I use in my workshop and really love it.
Maybe it will be useful for you.
Definitely recommend this Oil and Wax for cutting board:
    amzn.to/36ytyi1
    amzn.to/3nrAPGL
    My glue:
    amzn.to/3jyVMNu (really love it)
    Double-Sided Duct Tape:
amzn.to/33ANxen (It holds blank well, but anyway, I also use screws.)
My Random Orbit Sanders I love how they work but they get a little dusty:
    amzn.to/36u5mxs
    amzn.to/3d1oNiv
    Makita 3/4-Inch ID/1-OD diameter by 10-Foot Hose
    amzn.to/33uGmnS
My Sanding Disc (for me they are the best!!!):
    3M Cubitron II
    amzn.to/2SrnAHs (80 and 120 grit)
    amzn.to/2SqlvvH (150 grit)
    amzn.to/3nksyUQ (220 grit)
    amzn.to/2GriKaZ (320 grit)
My router bits which I use a lot:
Standard Spiral Bit with Down Cut 1/8-Inch Cutting Diameter
    amzn.to/3izKXcF
15 Degree v bit (be careful easy to breake down)
    amzn.to/3izLyLr
Round Nose Bit with 3/8-Inch Radius, 3/4-Inch Cutting Diameter and 1-1/4-Inch Cutting Length
amzn.to/2SsZYlV (I use it for juice groove)
1/2-Inch Dia. 2 Flute Ball Nose Spiral End Mill Router Bit
amzn.to/33v99Zm (I use it for juice groove)
Spiral Flush Trim Bit with Down Cut and 1/2-Inch Cutting Diameter
    amzn.to/2SsB8m7
Three Flute with Spiral Bit 1/2-Inch Cutting Diameter and 2-Inch Cutting Length
amzn.to/2HTgwkV (I use it for flatining surface and makining cutting board shape)
Spiral Bit with Up Cut 1/4-Inch Cutting Diameter and 1-Inch Cutting Length
amzn.to/36u2Hns (I use it for cut off inlays. it doesn't make chips.)
    My Collet Set:
    amzn.to/33xbO4X
    My DEWALT Plate Joiner:
amzn.to/33xtkWQ (it is not bad and not good it is ok)
My Bandsaw Blade it is inexpensive and cut well:
    amzn.to/34uKNy8

The pure beauty of some of your work is astounding. I hope that when I am unable to do my job because of my mobility problems, I will still be able to do my cnc.Thank you for the inspiration. I hope my ideas tick the boxes for my fellow veterans. Only time will tell.

    Hi Nik,
I've been doing some research into started CNC machines. Did you try it's with the default 775 9,000 or 20,000 rpm motors & 3mm shank cutter compared to the heavier duty DeWalt router?

I have a question - how do you do the square inner corners of the letters with a round tool? I've seen machining videos where a round-to-square auger is used to push through a circular drill hole to carve it out into a square, but that was a manual tool, and it only moved vertically.

    • @weisshahn6485
      @weisshahn6485 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It the set up that is shown here it wouldn’t be possible to get square corners. The wood would need to be held in several vertical positions to be milled out. Even then only simple letters would be able to be machined this way. That is why he used a tapered endmill. It can give the appearance of having square sharp corners by tapering the wall downwards. The inlay piece is then milled in a mirrored path and when the fit together the two loom square. Even then though a truly perfect 90° corner isn’t possible. I hope this answers your question

Hello. I am thinking about buying this machine and i was wondering if you know or if you tried, what is the thickest piece of wood you can cut with a straight router bit. I hope you can give me some light about the matter. Thank you! (Ps. I want to cut wood about 50 to 60 millimeters, and what kind of bit should I use!) :) Hope to hear your opinion!
