    Worth caveating that these are maximum possible losses in the aggregate, not necessarily the average loss since the distribution of Docksides across the player base isn't known. Still, terrific analysis, believable numbers. A+ from an Economics Professor.

    Rudy from Alpha Investments made a good point, that this was entirely curated by WotC and the RC. Theres no way they ban cards like this, and tank the market if they had already planned on putting these cards in any future sets within the next 1-2 years. Thats a massive loss of money. It was likely done on purpose because theyre considering new even more powerful cards for people to chase after. All this did was hurt collectors and investors, and made a ton of people feel like they wasted their money chasing these cards in recent sets.

      Anyone paying insane prices for single cards is wasting their money no matter if the cards end up getting banned or not, if people don't have enough money to quite literally burn it, they shouldn't use it to buy cards like this. Never expect for any of these to be "worth it" just like with risky investments of any kind

It’s wizards who kept those prices so high to keep their very expensive special boosters to be popular. steering committee only try to keep the game fair and on the right level, it’s not their fault that wizards keep printing cards that never should be allowed into the format and in addition keep the prices so high.

    I sure hope there's some kind of legal repercussions for wizards because if they know this card was going to get banned over a year ago and then they still decided to print 6 variations of it and make it their Chase card in one of their most recent releases that seems a little fishy seems like they milked us for everything they could before they banned the card I know banning's happening so it's whatever but them knowing it was going to happen and then still hyping up the card like that it seems a little bit anti-consumer especially cuz I know the value of those cards. I have many of these baned cards. I am not upset about the money, but I am annoyed by why they were banned. Where I play, we have three teirs of turnoments. One just percon, casule competitive ( no combos before turn 6 and certain cards in you deck will move you to the last teir), the last teir is cedh. I have decks that are in the second and third teir. I have no problem with any card to be played in cedh. But what I am annoyed with is the people who want to play casually whining about those who want to play card in their cedh decks. Do not play with people that play cedh. Why should the cedh players suffer because some do not like certain cards. Plus, people should not threathen anybody.

  • @joshuaturner4602
    @joshuaturner4602 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    I actually disagree with your position on rule 0
    Rule 0 should be fore "We are all friends and we trust each other not to cause an awful play experience and so we trust them with things we would not trust strangers with"
    Rule 0ing in cards that are bad is what rule 0 should before. Especially now that more and more EDH events are happening at conventions and what not where there isnt really time or space for Rule 0 talks.
    If the ban list is working correctly you can a group of strangers can sit down and you will likely have an OK game of magic, but if you are with your friends and you want to use the spiciest tech you can ask them to let you use an otherwise banned card.

    • @Dstinct
      @Dstinct 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Rule 0 does not work outside of a kitchen table environment. You can't show up to play with strangers with prebuilt decks and expect everyone to want the same experience. Rule 0 creates a meta amongst your friends in your home. Commander never should have left the environment it was designed for because it doesn't function correctly and was never meant to be played that way.

    • @joshuaturner4602
      @joshuaturner4602 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Dstinct regardless of the way it was designed , it is being used as the defacto format for MTG now. and considerations must be made to how it is being used now.
      Like how social security numbers are in America, they were never intended to be used as a catchall identifier of citizens (in fact the cards were originally printed with "Not to be used for purposes of identification") but because people didn't want to default to a more secure id system people just defaulted to using social security numbers (Here in Australia we use drivers licenses, and for those that do not want, or cannot drive there is an 18 plus card which is identical in all ways except it doesn't allow you to operate a motor vehicle)
      Likewise we have to understand that this is how EDH is being played and we have to make accommodations for that because you are not going to fix it

      Jeweled Lotus isnt a Staple in every deck though, and id say neither is Mana Crypt. I played the game for years before i ever put a MC in a deck, and even now its only in 2 of my 11 decks. It sounds like people were upset because somebody spent more money and won slightly faster. They werent expensive because they were inherently good, its because they were good AND RARE. Card games have always had chase cards, and having a few that are worth more money shouldnt be the thing everyone fixates on if theyre trying to play for fun. All mono colored decks that were hanging on by a thread to complete in cEDH are now cut off completely. you wanna get into cEDH? Well now you have to buy a few dual lands. If you were willing to spend $100 on a card that is good across all decks why couldn’t you use the same justification for a $500 dollar card that would be good in every competitive game AND that is guaranteed to never be reprinted for legal play? To jump into cedh demands a rather high amount of initial investment. I’ve seen budget brews but almost all of them are still over $250. That’s a pretty high ceiling to ask of someone for a 100 card singleton format. Also I guarantee a majority of these budget brews already weren’t relying on Crypt or Lotus to launch them. It's the ones who don't have cards who cry about. Your mentality is going to a race and bringing a Ford escort while someone brings a Lamborghini, and your saybits not fair lol

    Do not buy broken and overpriced pieces of cardboard. Play the game, have fun with it, exclude such silly inventions from your playgroup in rule 0 or… use proxies.
    Hundreds of thousands of people are homeless or die because they do not have anything to eat and you’re crying because thousands of dollars lost on pieces of coloured paper. It’s disgusting.

    You're super sincere until you throw up the Sol Ring argument and can't even really look into the Camera when you do... the availability of Sol ring makes it far less of a "villian" card...half the casual tables don't even run it. The easy solution to this is to separate cedh and edh, then every time you feel the need to ban a card in cedh, you ban it in EDH instead. (>")>~~~winnning~~~D

    The RC only cares about the quality of play. The try-hards brought these cards to casual tables. Rule 0 did not help with this. So they banned those cards. People playing cEDH-level cards couldn't be trusted to play among their own kind. So their toys were confiscated. I have no pity for any of them, only the shops left holding the bag.

      The vast majority of cEDH players would never play those decks against casuals. It's usually high powered casual decks that lie about their powerlevel

      They shouldn't have been in casual decks. But Sol Ring is probably the biggest offender of lowering quality of play, yet untouched.

      This was a corporate decision. Stop fooling yourself that the RC is independent of WotC.

    Wizards didn't make the decision but they need to address the decision. This isn't the office they can't just "Aww god Dwight picked the worst health plan, guess we gotta live with it, to late now." or don't and folks choose whether or not to accept being at the mercy of the RCs terrible decisions or to stop buying product.
