I play insight in a couple decks. It's draws a lot most of the time. Compost is great too and also draws a lot.
Viridian Revel is my go to nowadays.

Verity Circle is another great replacement for Rhystic Study. There are almost always mana dorks or weird tap abilities to fuel it.
I've had it in a deck for 3 years, and i've never drawn a single card off of it.
My replacement suggestions for each card mentioned:
Rhystic Study: I have a copy of it and no real replacements, but if you're looking to tax your opponent in a similar way, Overburden and Aether Barrier are good options.
Dockside Extortionist: I use Glittering Stockpile. Works as a mana rock early and as a big burst of mana in late game. Rituals never worked for me.
Jeweled lotus: Between Lotus Bloom and Lotus Petal, there's Sol Talisman. Looks stupid in comparison, but I have multiple ways to copy artifacts in play and has proven useful to have another Sol Ring that sticks around, basically.
Demonic Tutor: I'm using Mausoleum Secrets. It's highly specific, but if you're running a mono or bi-color black deck chances are you're going to find anything you need with it. I have a Tourach deck, but I guess Shirei, Jarad and Meren decks can also use it very effectively.
Parallel Lives: If you are in blue, Adrix and Nev are very affordable right now.
Craterhoof Behemoth: I have an elf snowball deck, and multiple times instead of fetching Craterhoof I Just fetched Ezuri Renegade Leader and paid for his ability multiple times. Requires a bit more mana, but it's a guaranteed win instead of killing just one or two opponents.
Archangel of Thune: Nykthos Paragon is the real only substitute. However, if you just want to alter the board in your favour, Witch of the Moors is a meanie.
Sakashima oaTF: the real strength of it lies in the fact that he sits in command zone. To this end, the old Sakashima The Impostor is much better. He can copy your opponent's creatures, still avoids the legend rule for himself and you can bounce it back whenever you like another creature better.
Old Gnawbone: burst of mana is one thing, but the dragon is making treasures. If you care about that instead, Bootlegger's Stash lets you accrue value over time without the need to attack. Pair it up with a Seedborn Muse and see how it goes.
Enlightened Tutor: it's only pricey because it catches all, really, but Open the Armory, Steelshaper's gift, Heliod's Pilgrim and Sterling grove can perfectly fit your deck in most cases.
The optimal budget replacement for any Commander staple is "print it out and glue it to a Plains," but I suppose that would've been a short video.
Well yeah but you can’t really say you’re under a certain budget if you’re doing that, or people might just prefer to have the actual card.
@@jolteon345neither of those examples really discourage proxying. It's the stigma against proxies that needs to go away. Rules about budgets and power levels are great and can still exist.
Just get cards ordered from MPC Fill, cheap and a good alternative.

I use staples instead of glue
This one is brand new but on the black tutors there's a new case called Case of the Stashed Skeleton that can tutor any card to the hand. Cost is black_colorless and then another black_colorless to solve and you have to get rid of a single skeleton (But I think black is most of the time able to sacrifice a single token immediately) but this is definitively on the least for black tutors on a budget
I know you recommended Ghostly Pilferer before but thanks for the reminder! Cheap body, feeds the graveyard, I'm gonna try it out in my Muldrotha deck

It’s crazy that Rhystic Study came out as a common in Prophecy. I still have my foil copy.
I ordered Jeweled Amulet as soon as I watched this video. I've played a few games with it now, and it works! Store any extra mana you have. I recommend using counters of different colors so you can tell what type of mana it's supposed to make.
Open the Armory is a nice budget replacement for Enlightened Tutor, and it's white unlike Invasion of Theros which is actually Azorius.
Ghostly Pilferer also loves driving vehicles around for fun. Been tossing around Temur vehicles, and this guy's a slam dunk.
He's also nuts in Tocasia decks. It's a little specific but it's still tech.
Age counters are used to track cumulative upkeep. Toss in a solemnity prevent counters being added and get so much value
I'm surprised Pathbreaker Ibex wasn't mentioned as a budget option for Craterhoof Behemoth
My friend annihilated us with Ibex in his Yargle & Multani deck.
I use Pathbreaker in my Green Stompy deck. (If I had a Craterhoof I’d play both. 😂)
You might want to check the price on that. Ibex is no longer budget.
Unless you are in Gruul (for the haste granted by red) it's too telegraphed. It just makes the whole table decide to kill you before you can attack with it.
I use the End-Raze Forerunners as Craterhoof at home
45:00 Really surprised Open the Armory didn't get a mention as a budget replacement for Enlightened Tutor. It is limited to Aura's and Equipment, but that can often still be enough.

I got my Dockside Extortionist in my first ever Commander Precon deck. It was in the Mystic Intellect deck I believe.
Curse of verbosity is a sneaky substitute for rhystic study. It quietly draws you cards while beating down a specific player.

Mana Geyser doubled by Anhelo is the setup for an X spell finisher all the time for me.
2 mana into dockside to force people to sac treasures is still super good. if you pair it up with the MKM card vengful tracker you could potentially get alot of damage if not the mana.
I love Mana Geyser. It’s like a mini-Treasure Cruise, but for red mages!!
Hoarding Broodlord + Saw in Half + Burnt Offering is great, lets you tutor up a big spell and cast it for only 2 extra mana
I like Nissa, Ascended Animist for a budget Craterhoof, but you do have to be in mono green or have Yavimaya out

The closest thing to artifact search in white would be equipment things like steelshaper's gift
Hellkite Tyrant would be a good replacement for dockside as well. Steals all artifacts when it deals combat damage, and at the start of your upkeep if you 20 or more artifacts you win the game lol
Invasion of Theros is great in my Tuvasa deck. I use it to grab Thassa good of the Sea, is that to make Tuvasa unblockable and then flip the battle
The not optional aspect of the alternates to rhystic study is huge, because as I remind my opponents to consider the trigger the presence of the rhystic study on field grows and grows until it becomes an automatic magnet to removal. The other spells just exist passively and are way less likely to dig into the psyche.
Mystic Remora with stuff like Hex Parasite and Vampire Hexmage to extend the fun with it.
I was going to buy a box of Dragon Shield sleeves from Card Kingdom until they tried to charge me over $7 for shipping. I live in the USA, that is beyond insane. To Amazon I go.

If you're not worried about generic artifacts or enchantments but want equipment instead, Steelshaper's Gift is a good alternative for Enlightened Tutor. The mana cost is the same, it goes into you hand, but only works with equipment and is only $5 at the time of writing this.
You should include Rosie Cotton synergizes with Took and goes infinite with Herd Baloths.

Hi about Archangel of Thune. I'm not sure about Heliod and Cleric Class, 1 counter on 1 thing is not the same as 1 counter on all your things. You're right that if you're cheesing a win with a combo, and that counter isn't really about more power, then it may be comperable in its impact on the game, but if you just want a two card combo that wins games in a creature deck you can go much cheaper than Heliod. A wrath of God combo'd with a spell that gives your team indestructible will do it. If you're using Archangel like an Overrun you're also probably not dropping it on an empty board, you're dropping it when you're about to win and have lots of creatures. A budget card in that scenario that wins could just be tapping out your opponents creatures like with Bonds of Discipline or giving yours protection from a color like with Bathe in Light. Removing their blockers often doubles your power or more. Some cheap replacements for a deck that wants Archangel of Thune and are using it as an growing anthem, are instead Goldnight Commander, Valor of Akros, and Cathar's Crusade. Decks running Archangel are leaning into Soul Warden effects, tokens, and lots of creatures, so these are a better representation of Archangel of Thune. If you truly are playing it in a slow and steady way, then Felidar Retreat is going to be epic and so will a lot of the Ajani planeswalkers, which should be easy enough to protect in this kind of deck. Nykthos Paragon cares about something different than Archangel, so these actually go in different decks. The timing of Nykthos Paragon is awkward and wouldn't help you win unless you have a first strike creature. Nykthos Paragon wants to be in a deck that gains big bursts of life with cards like Beacon of Immortality, but is a huge investment if your lifegain is coming from Cruel Celebrant for example. Lastly if you are in a strange Dinosaur Dragon Eldrazi meta and only want the Arcangel because your creatures keep dying in combat a spicy budget replacement is Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant. Personally I don't run Archangel anymore as the bookeeping is a bit too much for me I'd rather have a Mirror Entity just because its cleaner. Love your videos guys, especially the kitty cats, keep it up. I love lifegain and just thought I'd share my thought too :)

There's not really a budget option to Nexus in those colors outside of committing to your tribe besides 3-4 goodstuff outliers.
The Great Henge has several budget friendly options but you'll pay full cmc. Beast Whisperer, Primordial Sage, and Soul of the Harvest are similar effects. If you consistently get through for combat damage, Ohran Frostfang and Toski will draw a lot of cards too.

It upsets me more to sit across from a player that owns a very expensive card or cards and that player not know how to properly time their instants or effects, than to play against a player that is skilled and runs a full proxy or budget deck.

I pulled my Lotus in a $50 masters draft and I see people pulling it in LCI $30 drafts. It's absurd to see it keep going up.
On that note. Lotus Bloom is underrated. Good shout out. Everything's good with prosper meme. I love it in a Mishra deck though. Early game, play Mishra. Mid game, use it as a ritual every turn with the commander. Put it on the field as a 0 mana artifact with smelting vat as well.
I do like Decimator of the Provinces for a budget Craterhoof, I have a fond memory of absolutely wrecking a Winota player with Decimator + Monkey Cage

You replace Rhystic Study with a stax piece, because that's its primary function.
If you are in an environment where nobody is paying the 1 and you are drawing a shit ton of cards off Rhystic, you are in an environment you should not bring Rhystic to because it's far outside the scope of that game.

Exactly and it doesn't even need to exactly stax them either, just add a cost to their 10-hour turn. Cards like Rug of smothering, painful quandary, spellshock, Liesa, Shroud of Dusk, and Kambal Consul of Allocation hurt everyone, but really they usually will only really hinder the most busted decks because now they either have to remove them or take 20 on their turn, making it possible for the table to kill them whereas otherwise they are at 40+ while also having a grip of cards and a crazy board state making them almost impossible to beat if the other decks at the table aren't also powerhouses.
Another added benefit of these cards is that they do something in your deck even when no one is playing above power level, so they aren't like other staxy cards that you are sad to see when no one is playing a deck that would care about its effect at all.
Kambal can be nasty himself. I do like that he hurts degenerate decks though.

See Mini M&Ms are 100% far better than the regular M&M. Why would you have one regular M&M when you could have 10 tiny ones for the same volume. It's like comparing 1 10/10 creature to 10 1/1 creatures (goblins specifically). You're paying for optionality there
