    No five-minute cinematic intro, no contorted faces, manic dialogue & bad jokes, no gongs, farts, & whistles, no sock puppets. Just a guy clearly explaining & demonstrating, in a pleasant voice & with good basic camera work, the attributes, functions, & operation of the watch. This is The Way.

      Yep. I didn’t want to do the things that I try to skip when I watch other videos. No “unboxing” either. And I never sell my watches nor do I get any kind of commission when anyone else is selling watches. My general approach is just trying to answer the question: “What is everything I would want to know about this watch before buying it myself?”

    Bought the 5610 about 3.5yrs ago. It's been my daily beater ever since has had at least 75% of my wrist time since I got it. This watch to me was great value, it's had an extremely hard life and lots of dings and scrapes on the bezel and strap, yet the mineral crystal is almost pristine. Most criticism of the 5610 seem to be about - 1. The small buttons are fiddly to press. 2. The light only illuminates for 1.5 secs and there's no option to change. 3. In the UK where I live the date is only given in US format and can't be altered. Sometimes people say the time not viewable in the stopwatch, timer etc functions is a bit of a limitation. For me I find my old ear drums just aren't up to the low volume of the alarm, but this is true of all G-shocks, including Master of Gs. In summation, as far as I'm concerned this is the favourite digital watch I've ever owned. It's so durable and reliable I'd be lost without it. It's not so expensive that you can't unleash it as a beater and yet it's still a respectable piece and not seen as cheap by people (that's my take anyway). In the longterm, I'll never be without a G-Shock square, as long as I own a watch.

      This is also an example that such instructional videos should only be shot with the normal positive version of the display. The negative display in these videos looks just awful. That's why I didn't watch your video from yesterday. There is nothing worse than using a watch with a negative display for this kind of videos.

    Yours is the best video review I've found on these. I've just ordered a GW-M5610 and I already know I'll love it. About 11 years ago I got a Casio "Edifice" EQW-700DBJ-1A which is an analog solar "waveceptor", and it's been awesome. Still works perfectly, looks great, and hasn't needed a new battery yet. I really don't _need_ another watch, but I've been wanting a digital and the DW-5600 is so affordable I couldn't say no to myself.

    comprehensive review, excellent stuff. I love this watch, but you know, there are way too many buttons and options/menus for my needs. I have never needed a lap timer or stopwatch, or the time in whatever other country. It doesn't make sense for the 12 hour time to just have a "P" showing when it ought to say PM or AM (although why you'd even want that I don't know because you'll know whether it's pm or am in any case won't you, so that's a pretty useless feature). So for me, although I want a G Shock (I don't yet own one) and I love the look of this, there are just so many features on it I will never use because for me, I just want to know the date and time, that's it. Many G Shocks are lovely pieces though, albeit very cluttered much of the time in my opinion, so who knows, if I buy one of these it would be an indulgence but, in honesty, I like my very simple F91W so it's not something on my immediate radar. However, I do like that blue one you show but it's unavailable for any reasonable price here in England.
    Great video nonetheless, really enjoyed it.

      Bluetooth is a joke though. In 4 years that will probably just be energy wasting chunkt that uses up precious space and add to weight. If I'd want a watch that connects to my phone, it would be an all-inclusive garmin or apple watch, that are in the same price range.

      I think the battery life is excellent if you wear the watch on a regular basis and it gets normal exposure to normal, everyday light. But if it stays in the drawer for too long and the battery goes to medium instead of high then all I need to do is put it near a window on a sunny day for about an hour and it charges right back up!

      @goku445 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the battery life used to be crap on the first solar squares but it got excellent now. you can get 10 months battery on a full charge and you only need 5 minutes of sun per day to keep it topped.

    There is a cool website called pcparts were you can buy casio resin cases and fairly easily recase your gshocks. Been thinking about doing some of mine for fun. Especially since the actual release watches in these colors have stupid ridiculus markups.

    Thanks for setting up my new watch!🤗 the manual RC sig get wasn’t in the manual as switching of the beep. One minor detail on your vid, you say it is 200 bar water resistent but it is 20 bar. Thanks again, take care!👍🏻

      @GoodTimekeeper  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right! I know that "20 bar" and "200 meters" are the same as far as these ratings go, so I just got confused when I was saying "200 bar". That would be REALLY deep!

    Also, what are your thoughts for versions with negative display?

    • @GoodTimekeeper
      @GoodTimekeeper  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I still think that it's a bit more difficult to read the negative LCD display if you're in a place that isn't well-lit. I finally bought one with the negative display and the "combi bracelet" and I like it, but if I know that I'm going to be in a place with dim lighting I'll wear something else. I recently made a new video showing these G-Shock squares, including some that I purchased after I made THIS video... th-cam.com/video/zYXtExh3Z7o/w-d-xo.html

    Keanu Reeves is wearing G-Shock DW-5600C in Speed, it has no red border on the watch face, the closest watch today in terms of features and looks would be the 5600E, there is also a 5600UE which has the added benefit of solar power (but no atomic time keeping)

    I have one problem with my new watch CASIO GW-M5610-1ER, and that is User's Guide Module No. 3159. There are no detailed information about how to use Countdown Timer at all. I need very detailed instructions about how to use Stopwatch Mode & Countdown Timer Mode with that marvelous watch CASIO GW-M5610-1ER. The design is really great!

    I got mine about 4 days ago and have been wearing it everyday.....when it arrived it was showing "high" charge and now it's medium. I hope I haven't received a dud because I've seen several people talk about having the same thing happen to them, I can't see it dropping in power like that when wearing it all "day" long. Other than that I love the watch....

      No, mines exactly the same, it seems all digital g-shocks do it, just because it's in m doesn't mean it's faulty

    Hi Greg hope you’re hale and hearty, thanks to your coverage on G Shock and Casio products I got into owning my first ever G Shock a week ago. I got myself the GW5610-1CF that comes with the auto backlight and a 3sec on screen lighting. Love it to bits.
    My dream watch to own will be an identical g Shock square that can come equipped with a heart rate sensor, sleep tracker and step tracker. I’m big into walking since 2015 and I’m growing tired of wearing a Fitbit for it. Please ask Casio to make one with the requirements I’ve mentioned 🙏🥲

    • @GoodTimekeeper
      @GoodTimekeeper  ปีที่แล้ว

      Today, you can find the GW-M5610UBC-1 with a combi bracelet already on it as a standard feature. It costs more than a basic GW-M5610 but, for some folks, it's a good way to get the bracelet without ordering it separately. The GW-M5610UBC-1 has a negative LCD.

    Awesome watches. I got my 5610 like a year ago, the solar battery died in like 2 months, as a daily driver. xD They replaced it under warranty in a week and everything is working perfectly since then.
    Just a few things to add:
    1. In case it's not obvious, the DST auto mode switches DST on and off completely automatically for your home city when necessary, received with the signal
    2. You can switch every WT city individually into DST mode manually by pressing and holding the adjust (top left) button
    3. Compared to regular battery-powered models, the auto EL function stays on FOREVER if you turn it on. Regular Gs are turning this function off after like 6 hours to preserve battery power. However, due to this watch having solar charging, it can recharge the lost energy pretty much within a day or so. I noticed a bug though: if you go to the display test screen with adjust + mode + set(+), the auto EL turns off. Strange. :D
    4. Indeed, if you start a timer the auto receive function is turned off, probably to avoid inconsistencies caused by time mismatch. Figuring this out drove me crazy but I did it on my own.
    5. Leaving the watch in complete darkness (drawer) sends the watch in an even deeper sleep. After a week or so more functions are turned off automatically, such as the beeper, illumination, and even the auto receiver function.
    6. You can actually kill the battery by leaving the watch for too long in the dark (months), so make sure you expose it to as much light as possible, even if it's artificial (indoor lights are light sources too).
    I owned many watches in the past few years but this one is just the perfect watch for everyday use. It's rugged, accurate, has a lot of actually useful functions, and what I really like about it that it can work on its own. No smartphone link, no winding, no manual time setting. A really lightweight, fun watch to own. :)

    • @GoodTimekeeper
      @GoodTimekeeper  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a good question. I think they stopped making that one a few years ago. Someone sold one through the Watchuseek website just about a month and a half ago. I think there might also be a non-atomic “DW” version too. And you might be able to buy the bezel and watch band from Pacparts.com so you could put them on some other GW-M5610 to create a one-of-a-kind similar model. Or just keep checking eBay on a regular basis and maybe one will show up.

    Hello sir ! can you pls tell us how you clean your watch’s or pls make a video for we know how to clean the watch in safe way

    • @GoodTimekeeper
      @GoodTimekeeper  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All I’ve done to clean watches, generally, is brush the grunge out of the straps using water and an old, very soft toothbrush. Sometimes I might use a drop or two of liquid dishwashing soap if the grunge is too tough to remove with plain water.
      If I got something stuck to the watch bezel like, for example, I bumped the watch against a wall and a bit of paint stuck to the watch, I was able to gently scrub it away with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Or I just rubbed it away with my fingernail. The Magic Eraser might make a matte finish start to look shiny so I go easy on using that.
