      @@johnappleseed2635 i am a Pixel User (4a 5g) and I just gotta say it... Android 12 is worse than Android 11. They sacrificed efficient design for what feels like a kindergarden playground. A Lot of stuff requieres more time/ touches. When I go out, I usually turn off WiFi and turn on Mobile. Easy as hell on 11, pretty much 2 clicks. On 12 I have to open Internet and that opens an oversized list, then I have to toggle my stuff on and off. It's both, uglier and slower. And that is just one example... Loved your critical analysis especially of the camera. A key part of a reviewer's job is to separate the truth from the hype, and this is exactly what I was looking for. While the Pixel 6 series is still very attractive, Google's hype had really built up like crazy over the last few months.

    • @supermotosavage3916
      @supermotosavage3916 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The one thing that is really missing here is Googles reliance on their software for image processing, that's what made them so good for so long. It seems like they upgraded the cameras but the images all look similar to last year because it's all under the same settings as last year. The Pixel 6 could go from great to THE camera with future software updates...It's just up to google now.

      @mickaelsflow6774 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@supermotosavage3916 That's true. Especially the "same settings" bit.
      A good thing for me is... I didn't go for the Pixel 5 last year because it was harder to get the Green in Sweden (at a decent price and locally). This year, I can travel to get the 6. So... I don't mind as much.
      Now that being said, I secretly hope they fix some of the issues I've seen in reviews left and right because it's mostly software, BUT and that's a gigantic BUT... I'd advise against counting on update to fix anything for such devices. I'm fine with what's on offer and the trade-offs. And if not, that'd be a no-go TODAY and until proven otherwise. Too many people get burned *assuming* THE update is coming. ;)

      Yeah, we're kind of at the point where phones are already really good at doing what most people use them for... that's why everyone is pushing funky colors, alt designs like folds, moar battery, and subjective design choices like refresh rate which is nice but not $400 difference for a new phone nice.
      Phone makers are getting to the same point where lightbulbs ended up... lasting too long, being too good. They got together and agreed to purposely make lightbulbs worse... profits skyrocketed. I still can't use STT reliably for typing on my Samsung S20 (maybe because of my slight accent), so I'd be a lot more interested in such features than a marginally better photo that I can only judge by putting it next to something better. For some reason big TH-camrs operate under the idea that smartphones are cameras with a phone attached instead of small computers that have many features. Notice how little they bother with the very useful IR blaster on Xiaomi phones or about the phone having SD Card, wifi signal quality and GPS quality and many other features that each manufacturer puts.
      They barely make a casual mention while wasting multiple videos comparing cameras. I think this opsession may also be a reason many manufacturers are so focused on camera features as well.

    As a tech enthusiast, I personally don't like the trend that reviewers are following where the camera dominates the review. I really couldn't care less how good the camera is. I care about EVERY other aspect of the phone infinitely more. I say this with the reality that the average camera quality in phones is sufficiently high. You spend 95% of the time on your phone NOT on the camera app. Why is more than half of this video talking about the camera.......

      Google has botched every even numbered pixel model, other than the 4a 5g (which doesn't count). Looks like the 6 is no exception. I don't know if they have competing teams working on the models, or if they think people won't notice when they half ass a launch, but the 2, the 4, and now the 6 all suffer from flaws that are significant enough to affect sales but easily avoided. The pixel 2's dim screen. The pixel 4's parade of useless, AI driven party gags that destroyed battery life but didn't make the camera any better than the one in the pixel 3 (which I bought for $400 less rather than pay for the 4). Now with the 6, they opted for a cheap and proprietary chip design whose architecture is so notoriously low rent that Samsung phones sold with the Exynos processor are discounted in foreign markets compared to snapdragon models. I don't get it. Google already has the algorithms. It just needs a way to process them in real time like all of their competitors. But rather than give its software the hardware it deserves, it chooses a last gen, second rate chip that in the whole is barely any different than Samsung's reference design.
      As with every other even numbered phone, Google will learn its lesson by the time the Pixel 7 is released, so that will be a good phone. It has to be, what with that odd number in its name. 👍

      @@UnlessRoundIsFunny What i feel is maybe they keep trying to experiment with things like removing ultrawide previous for telephoto then putting it back again lol. They really should stick to tested formulas and be like the rest, keep improving and refining then keep to this price point and increasing it only if there is a major hardware addition. That's basically what every Chinese companies were doing until they accumulated enough money for hardware R&D. Even Vivo or was it Oppo is attempting to make it's own chip where Sony failed. Google is a bit late to the game so they just have to "copy" the rest for now. Their advantage is their software, just like iOS.

If people shy away from the 6 because the video camera sucks, then the Pixel 8 will be the next opportunity for Google to convince the world that even numbers aren't cursed. Maybe it should just go straight from the 7 to the 9 instead, which is probably safer.

Screen is still nice and clean without a punch hole camera, design and feel great, still relatively snappy. I used to have Pixel and Nexus devices and this was my first Oneplus. I don't think I'll buy another one. My next phone is likely to be next year's Pixel range, but I can't justify it this year as this is the first device I've wanted to keep for a third year without wincing. Always the same great straight to the point review. I do want to say that there may be minuscule differences compared to last gen but all can be improved in terms of software, which has been the strong points for Pixels. It’ll probably just get better over time with more updates and support from Google.

    I was looking at another OnePlus, until I saw the 6. I have a feeling that this phone will get revisited in 3 months after a couple of software updates for the camera to see how much it will improve performance. My question is can they keep this price point? If so, OnePlus has to rethink its place in the market, or they will become the new LG.

The base Pixel 6 is just a better value for that general range, although them being sold more broadly may help, but I think they've pretty much lost that chunk of their fanbase by this point

      @@justrandomdm LG was a great company that kept trying to compete with Samsung and Apple but couldn't. Instead of moving towards the midrange market where they could have dominated, they stayed in the same lane and it killed them in the end. OnePlus was in that midrange lane, but now wants to compete with Samsung and Apple. But most of their phones still don't even offer wireless charging. With the Pixel 6, Google just out OnePlused OnePlus by offering a flagship killer phone and price point. This is not the economy for them to try and go to a higher weight class. If they aren't careful, they'll die off like LG did.

What got me to finally order is that TMO gave me $300 for my Pixel 2 backup phone that was sitting in a drawer with terrible battery life (but otherwise perfectly working). Pixel 6 for $300?? So for me, I've had the OG XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL. Skipped the 5 and used the 4XL rather than the yearly upgrade. Recently switched to a s21 ultra this past March. I miss, miss, miss the software of the pixel line. Call screening, hold, astrophotography....
    I am okay with the fact that the pixel 6 may not be the "camera king". I just want something that is comparable to the others---hardware-wise (because in the past, no pixel truly had the hardware to match its software). I am READY to ditch my s21. I hate oneUI, the bloatware, and I definitely don't want an iphone simply because I don't own any other apple products. So, to have a phone that no longer feels like a compromise in build quality, less RAM, etc, it really feels good to be able to get it. I don't expect the Pixel 6 or Pro to pull people away from Apple, but I can definitely see it drawing from places like Samsung, etc (which has premium flagship quality).
    That's why I preordered a 6 pro.

    As a normal everyday user, to be frank, we need phones that just does the job. Answer calls, browse some media, watch youtube and videos like yours🤭 and sometimes when we go out, take a few pictures and I would like them to be good enough so that they don't loose clarity or the pixels feel grained out. And for what pixel 6 is bringing with that price, I would like to answer for all, it's a worthy *buy*. Hands down I agree with you, that price hits the bells for everyone. Like I definitely as a user wouldn't sit and compare it with 3 phones! Because I don't have 3 phones to compare. I'm upgrading from an old model, anything better than my previous model, is great! But thank you so much for this video. It answered a few questions in my head about cameras on the pixel 6. 👍

    I wish Google chose a lower megapixel large sensor. It's definitely using pixel binning. But at that point why bother with the high megapixel count? Larger pixels gather more light, it's just physics. The increased light gathering ability of the larger sensor is basically nullified by having tiny pixels 🤷‍♂️
