I just got them. I've been an airpod 2 user for a long time as well for fit. These are 90% as good on fit but it's worth the upgrade to me because the anc is actually pretty damn good. Also the 3s were trash for fit so if that's the same for you then you should probably like the 4s.
it really sucks they removed MagSafe charging.. that was the best thing I loved with my airpod3 and pro. for most apple users, I’m sure they have more MagSafe charging stand lying around the home and office than Apple Watch charger so no magsafe no cable included slightly less battery And if comparing with Pro no volume control No hearing aid people should just go get pro 2 during a holiday sale and since it’s not “new “ may even get better deal than 4 Unless you really hate seal
What are you talking about? The AirPods 4 still charge on any MagSafe charger, but they just don’t have magnets in them so won’t stick to a vertical charger etc.
You do a good job of comparing the AirPods. This is a good review. I like that you actually think about what people want to know instead of mindlessly recording a review that tells us nothing
I dunno, I’ve got the 3rd gen but honestly - the magnets are whatever. If it reduces the case size, I can see why they would remove them. Looking at the case now on my MagSafe charger, I actually think the magnets won’t align with the smaller case.
A much more affordable alternative are the Amazon Echo Buds (2023 edition), which are often hovering around the $30 mark when on sale. I love my Airpod 3s, but actually prefer the Echo Buds because they provide much more bass and better seal. They also integrate quite seamlessly with iOS and Android. The only flaw that I have noticed is that since they are all black, they tend to overheat. The all white Airpods don't have this issue. Furthermore, when I need ANC, a cheap pair of CMF Buds work amazingly well.
Excellent video and review! Thank you. Literally everything you mentioned about fit and audio quality were my issues as well. The only pair of air pods I own is the G2 because of the fit-- I even have a back up set! lol. But after that review I am willing to give AP G4 a try. Also, the quality of your video, audio, set, lighting, script, delivery, all of it, etc. is top notch and worthy of your nearly 4M subscribers. Keep this up.
Question: Maybe I missed it, does the ANC only affect what I would hear, or does that also improve microphone performance for who is hearing me or in audio recordings? Because, I can live without ANC -- It's really not worth the extra $50 for me. I hardly used it when I had AP Pros.
The benefits of the AirPods Pro it’s not only the sound quality, but also the fit. I’ve very large ear canals, and none of the “normal” AirPods, or any other headphones without silicone, stay in my ear.
Would you say that the AirPods 4 fits like the AirPods 2 ? Which version would you recommend ? I love my AirPods 2 because they fit so well in my ears. I don’t know if I should get with ANC or without?
I've been using 3's for a while and picked up 4's today. Holy carp what a dramatic difference! Bass where there wasn't any, better fit, just better. Impressed.
I always went with AirPods 1 and 2 for a comfortable fit. Tried the AirPods Pro Gen 1 and they were NOT comfortable for me and hurt my ear. Sold them and went back to the AirPods 2. Saw the AirPods 4 coming out and decided to give it a shot. Turns out they provide a sweet spot by offering the comfort of the AirPods 1/2 alongside the improved seal that comes with a more bulbous bulb sort of akin to the pros. I found them to be much more comfortable. If you are in the same situation, I would recommend you try out the AirPods 4.
The question is do the mic and anc break in 2 months and convert into underwater sound as usual with airpods. Until they fix that I'm not buying it. I think this issue is not talked about enough.
Perfect review. Demo'd all of the models was thorough. Just what I needed. I bought Airpods 3 and Pros 2 but never used them as the fit was horrible compared to my Airpods 2. Excited for the 4s.

I had the original AirPods and upgraded to AirPods 3. I initially liked the 3's but as I used them more I found that they would easily not fit very well at all as my ears built up (I would guess sweat probably? maybe ear wax?) on the surface of the pods and I had to take them out and wipe them off to get better friction. This was not an issue on on the originals as they didn't rely on friction to stay in my ears, they just fit deeper in and sat comfortably. From what you're saying here Dave, AirPods 4 seems to be a no-brainer upgrade here for me as I still use my AirPods 3's all the time despite the fit issues.
i bought the airpods 4 without anc but i am very impressed the sound is SO much better than the ''giant'' speakers i have behind my monitor i love them
Agreed with the Gen 2 fit. I have a couple pairs of those I rotate all day long, and a pair of Pros I use when the situation calls for it, but I can't stand to wear them for very long. Tried gen 3 and instantly handed them down to my wife, who loved them, and has the gen 4 arriving tomorrow, so I'm sure she'll be pleased based on your review. Thanks for sharing the facts and your well educated opinion!
@@jayhee1557 Gen 4 is the same as Gen 3 in terms of fit, I'm stuck using Gen 2 until they go back to that design in some re-launch down the road (hopefully)
Dave, you should do a mic comparison with the old wired earbuds, as they are considered to have pretty decent mics for what they are. Love the video though. ❤
Hello Dave, thank you for sharing, I am a big fan. To be honest I think that the steps they did towards active noise cancellation are great, considering they did it without using a passive help, such as a rubber seal. Personally after having had for several years a pair of airpods 2, I went old school with the classic ear pods. I feel often times the need for an active noise cancellation, either with calls or to listen to music, but the microphone quality is very good and you can find them for cheap as of right now. Also they do not add much in terms of energy consumption, which is a major concern, especially when travelling.
yes, they can be paired with all of your apple ecosystem.. but let's not forget they work with ANY bluetooth device as well - pc, android, gaming systems, and even tvs. people tend to always omit that fact when reviewing them. surprisingly, some people are unaware of this lol
Thanks SO much for this review! I completely agree about the fit and comfort. AirPods 2 has always been more comfortable than the 3rd gen, and I was worried I’d be left behind with the redesign. Glad to know gen 4 is closer to the gen 2 size!
Thank you. This was exactly what I was looking for today, as I'm an AirPods 2 devotee, but the battery life is starting to kill me. I tried the pros when they first came out, and just cannot do that tip. I just ordered the 4s! Fingers crossed.
These are MUCH better than AirPods 3. I even prefer their fit over AirPods Pro 2

I dunno, I’ve got the 3rd gen but honestly - the magnets are whatever. If it reduces the case size, I can see why they would remove them.
Looking at the case now on my MagSafe charger, I actually think the magnets won’t align with the smaller case.
Upgrading from the AirPods 2 this month. Thank you for this review, you’ve covered all the points
2:59 - "seal"icone
Thank you so much for your video after researching many videos for AirPods 4 this for me is the best video by far so thank's again
Also someone said it has better anc
I can't believe how perfect these are for me. The fit is so much better, and you get good noise cancelation without that pressure feeling.
I'm waiting for the Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 Review
Love your side view camera angles for your ear. Really helpful! Nice job!

Would you say that the AirPods 4 fits like the AirPods 2 ?
Which version would you recommend ?
I love my AirPods 2 because they fit so well in my ears.
I don’t know if I should get with ANC or without?
Why the hell would they take the magnets out?
For the $220 model of course 😅
take squeeze and extra 2 dollars of profit
Smaller case from MKBHD's review. It does still have a smaller magnet in there for like non-magsafe chargers tho.
Environmental issue 😂
You can plainly see that the case is smaller than the magsafe charger. Also the apple watch charger still works magnetically with the new case.
The Airpods 4 mic is incredible. It sounds natural not robotic compared to its predecessors and even the pro sounds robotic.
Compare them to the Galaxy buds 3. Same open ear design with ANC.
Those do almost no ANC, the new Airpods 4 are the only open ANC earbuds that actually work.

I've been using 3's for a while and picked up 4's today. Holy carp what a dramatic difference! Bass where there wasn't any, better fit, just better. Impressed.
Is the bass that much better? Or maybe cuz its new idkk
@@3akrot69 It is for MY ears - may be more due to better fit/seal than actual hardware improvements, idk. Whatever it is - it's a dramatic difference.
Does it connect magneticly to a Apple Watch charger?
There's no magnet in the case, how could it on a weaker and smaller magnet?
Yes it does, MKBHD confirmed it in his video
@@quarterswedeYou can use an Apple Watch charger it literally says it on their website 💀
@@quarterswede There are magnets for the Apple Watch charging puck, quite strong ones as well
Bought em to replace my air pod 3s. They sound fantastic
1:59, Dave isn't talking about earbuds anymore
😅😅
funny
Anyone else trust Dave’s opinion on things like this more than others? Interesting review Dave, I may now consider the 4’s with ANC. Thanks.
The silicone ear tip is only comfortable when it isn’t wet by earwax.
Can’t tell you how many times the silicone buds have pulled mounds of earwax out of my ears🤢it’s so gross
yes I enjoyed silicone eartips because I have dry ears
@@thehomiedan6378 the point is that if it wasnt for them it would glogg your speaker holes directly i prefer it for that reason
@@thehomiedan6378 An yet wax is a part of the reason we can actually hear at all. Mammals are fascinating creatures.
@@quarterswede They also keep bacteria from entering the ear canal! Mammals are pretty dope
If anything, the mic from the iPhone was the one that impressed me a lot

I’m glad to see the non-rubber AirPods finally treated as a first-class citizen. I believe it’s the superior form factor for this product.

I seriously can't believe Dave is the first one to do an ANC test AND a mic test. Finally, a MIC TEST.

Perfect review. Demo'd all of the models was thorough. Just what I needed. I bought Airpods 3 and Pros 2 but never used them as the fit was horrible compared to my Airpods 2. Excited for the 4s.

dev2d review is best. I bought my first laptop 4 years back after seeing his review. and my laptop still work better than any new laptop at that price range.
This is the perfect Airpods comparison video. Thank you!
Finally someone compared them to 2nd gen. Thank you 🙏🏻
Excellent review - very thorough and most definitely better, and more useful, than MKBHD's review.
Dave definitely had the best gear reviews in my opinion.
Great review. After watching this definitely getting airpods 4
Thanks for the Mic comparison. Very useful.
OMG, finally they returned to AirPods 2 form! I will buy them in a heartbeat! Thanks for covering this topic!
Love the comparison of microphone quality!
i bought the airpods 4 without anc but i am very impressed the sound is SO much better than the ''giant'' speakers i have behind my monitor i love them
Coming from the 2019 AirPods, these AirPods 4 are astonishingly good. Watching movies with these in sounds freakin crazy good
Thanks for sharing the sound quality with us. 👍
How do the gen 4 compare to the gen 2 in terms of comfort? I have the same issue as u!
@@jayhee1557 Gen 4 is the same as Gen 3 in terms of fit, I'm stuck using Gen 2 until they go back to that design in some re-launch down the road (hopefully)
@@EZLogikal thats very sad to hear. I would think the airpods 4 would be more comfortable than the airpods 3 because they are slightly smaller.
Dave, you should do a mic comparison with the old wired earbuds, as they are considered to have pretty decent mics for what they are. Love the video though. ❤
I loved the way the 3s felt as far as fit. The bass on the 4s muffles the mids/treble unless you turn spacial audio on.
Love the review Dave!
Was expecting/hoping pretty good ANC performance but the improvement on the mic quality was a true surprise!
I love your reviews Dave!
yes, they can be paired with all of your apple ecosystem.. but let's not forget they work with ANY bluetooth device as well - pc, android, gaming systems, and even tvs. people tend to always omit that fact when reviewing them. surprisingly, some people are unaware of this lol
